Pacific Rim [NO SPOILERS] Review

**A Refreshing Change: Thoughts on the Movie**

I recently had the opportunity to watch a movie that truly stood out from the crowd, and I'm excited to share my thoughts with you. The movie was well-written, well-crafted, and refreshing in its approach to storytelling. One of the things that struck me most about this film was its avoidance of traditional romance subplots. Instead, the focus remained on trust and friendship between the male and female leads. This approach may not be for everyone, but I appreciate the way the writers chose to keep the narrative focused on character development rather than relying on predictable romantic entanglements.

**A Trusting Relationship**

The relationship between the two main characters was at the heart of the movie, and it was expertly portrayed without ever feeling like a romance. The trust and mutual respect that developed between them was palpable, and I appreciated how the writers chose to highlight this aspect of their bond. It's not often that you see a story that trusts its audience enough to let things develop naturally, but this film did just that. The lack of forced romance also meant that the focus remained on the characters' actions and interactions, rather than being distracted by unnecessary romantic entanglements.

**Product Placement and Cultural References**

One aspect of the movie that I was pleased to see was the absence of product placement. Unlike some other films, there were no major brands shoving their products down our throats. This allowed the filmmakers to focus on the story at hand, rather than trying to sell us something. Additionally, the film made a conscious effort to avoid pop culture references that might have been out of place in the movie's universe. While I'm sure some viewers would have appreciated certain nods to popular franchises, it was refreshing to see the writers choose restraint over gratuitous references.

**A Diverse Cast and No Racist Jokes**

Another aspect of the film that I appreciated was its diverse cast. The movie featured characters from different nations, including America, Russia, Australia, and China. While there were no overt attempts to force American culture down our throats, it was nice to see a more nuanced representation of international diversity. And in terms of humor, I'm happy to report that there were no racist jokes or put-downs. The film's writers opted for more lighthearted, sci-fi-related humor instead.

**A Well-Executed Sci-Fi Adventure**

One aspect of the movie that was genuinely impressive was its execution as a sci-fi adventure. The filmmakers clearly knew how to balance action, suspense, and science fiction elements, creating a thrilling ride from start to finish. The film's climax was particularly well-done, with some truly heart-pumping moments that kept me on the edge of my seat.

**A Technical Flaw**

While I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, there was one technical issue that detracted from my experience: the theater itself. The 16x9 screen and 1080p audio were nice touches, but the sound system was a bit off at times. The narrator's voice was sometimes hard to hear, and some dialogue lines felt muffled due to the surround sound speakers. Additionally, the volume was occasionally too loud, leading to a headache-inducing experience for me. However, this is not a criticism of the movie itself, but rather a quibble about the presentation.

**A Blu-ray Release and Recommendations**

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this film and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a thought-provoking sci-fi adventure. The movie's avoidance of traditional romance subplots and focus on character development made for a refreshing viewing experience. When it becomes available on Blu-ray, I have no doubt that it will be added to my collection. specifically i like it while trying to avoid spoilers for the most part um it's a really good movie like i said i really liked it i didn't fully know what to expect i honestly expected it to be a lot cheesier than what it was simply because it is you know giant robots versus giant sea creatures you kind of expect just like giant sharks movies or something but it was actually a pretty quality movie the story itself may have had some shortcomings but for what it was and what i expected from it absolutely loved it some of the things that i really liked about it was it was very you know there was the military in it it was very military oriented for what you know the jaegers um the giant robots are called jaegers yet there was no just in your face i don't think there was any at all but especially none in your face just army or navy or military recruitment ads you know most of those movies have go join the army go join the marines blah blah ads right in the movie or right after the movie there was none of that it was really good no one said the title of the film in the film no one just came out and said no it's pacific rim that just kills the movie for me none of that um there was no romance sublime there were there was a male main character and a female main character who i'm pretty sure i haven't looked it up yet but i'm pretty sure the female was the chinese girlfriend of scott pilgrim in the movie scott pilgrim and she even had blue dyed tips of her hair so that really threw me off because i kept thinking about scott pilgrim the entire time and yeah that made the movie kind of weird kind of trying to mix the two but whatever there was a male main character and a female main character and there was no direct romance subplot it was just you know based on trust and friendship and they even talked about that you got to be able to trust your partner and things like that but you know even at the end i'm not again no spoilers but at the end there's something that could be taken as romance but it wasn't directly romance and they didn't you know go huge huge out of their way to avoid romance either it's not like they just completely cut out where there should be romance it was just written well enough that you don't need romance and i like to see that and i hate that nowadays movies has to have to have romance in them to interest people that's stupid romance honestly kill some movies um there was no product placement as far as i can tell i could be wrong but there was no just major products shoved in your face and that means that they got all the funding they needed without having to do crazy product placement and product placement is another thing just like with the title that ruined it for me it's just like i'm drinking my coca-cola no no major pop culture references that would have been out of place in the movie they did make some you know what would have been pro um pop culture references to the movies universe but nothing from you know right here in this year there was no no major racist jokes or any sexual jokes or anything like that they didn't make a joke about the aliens the kajut i believe is what the kaju kaiju kaju however you say that then it makes some jokes about those but those were more just jokes they weren't even necessarily you know if you consider the kaiju a race they weren't even necessarily racist jokes or them it was about their poop it was more scientific or just poop it was a poop joke it wasn't a racist joke oh sorry there wasn't a whole bunch of america shoved in your face either while there was america there wasn't just like oh hey america yeah no it was if there were any nations missions it was many different nations it was america there was russia there was australia there was china i think they were speaking japanese in some parts of the movie so no america just rushed in your face and there were no kisses there were no kiss scene the ending could have been a kiss scene easily and it wasn't the movie was really kick-ass it wasn't too cheesy it wasn't too overdone um so i really liked it there was a weird thing about the one of the main characters um where they make them seem like i'm again trying to avoid spoilers as much as possible but they just kind of throw in this fact that as true put it makes him an anomaly to the other characters in the universe that makes him completely just like you know there's a whole lot of backstory that would have had to been there to explain this thing they mentioned about him and while there's some implications leading up to him having an interesting backstory they don't fully get to explaining his backstory and that's a little weird yeah what else was there oh and then the theater i was watching it in i don't know if all the eaters did this but the theater i was watching this in just really i don't know the volume was not right it was kind of a less we were doing it with some friends so the theater itself wasn't as you know high-tech as some of the theaters we usually go to it was actually a 16 by nine screen instead of the cinema like one to 24 ratio actual cinema wide screen so it was only 16x9 it was probably only 1080p and audio was just a bit off like the narrator's voice was kind of hard to hear and then there were a few dialogue lines that you know normally even in surround sound speakers like i have the center audio puts out the dialogue and it was really hard to hear some dialogue lines and then the volume itself was just a little too loud like i was starting i think i got a really bad headache just from the loudness and like i may be sensitive to sound but i'm not that that sensitive and it it got really really loud at some points but that's nothing against the movie that's just that's just me but really enjoyed it really fantastically put together definitely getting out on blu-ray and adding it to my library let me know what you guys think about the movie if you have seen it
