Adam Savage Reviews Thor's Stormbreaker Replica

Unboxing Mass Market Prop Replicas: An Adventure with Adam Savage

Hey everybody, uh Adam Savage got my hair is I'm just not happy with my hair today and I'm going to show you guys why. As you can see, it's a bit of a disaster, but that's not really the point of this video. The real point is that I've got some amazing mass market prop replicas here in my cave, and I want to share them with you all.

First up, we've got Stormbreaker from the Game of Thrones universe. Now, this is a great prop - it's hero-sized, substantial, and has some nice structure to it. However, as you can see, it definitely needs a paint job without a doubt. But that's not going to stop me! I'm going to add some more sculpted vines up here because on the real one there is much more of a vine structure around the thing.

Now, let's talk about what makes this Stormbreaker so special. Firstly, it's made of cast steel - yes, you heard that right! It's not just metal, but actual cast steel. I've never seen a prop made out of this material before, and it's truly astounding. However, as with any mass market piece, there are some inaccuracies. For example, the writing on the handle should be different, and the design is also slightly off.

Despite these flaws, I love this thing! It feels great to hold, and the weight of it is substantial. I can imagine that it would feel like picking up Stormbreaker itself. The experience it provides is exactly what I'm looking for in a prop - that's why I want to do some weathering on this, add more details, and maybe even redo the handle.

Now, let's move on to another stormbreaker that I've got here. This one was picked up from Etsy, and I have to say, it's quite different from the first one. It's not just metal; it's actually made of pot metal, which is a bit disappointing. However, what really catches my eye is the accuracy of the prop. The writing is correct, the design is correct, and even the worn parts are dead on. It's amazing how much detail has been put into this prop - I can see that it was made with love and care.

This stormbreaker is also smaller than the first one, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. On the other hand, the weight of it feels great to hold, and I love the way it looks. It's funny because normally when I pick up something like this and find details that are wrong, I get a little sad about it. But with this one, I'm happy! It's just... quirky, you know?

That's all for today's unboxing adventure, folks. Thanks for joining me in my cave as we explore the world of mass market prop replicas. I've got a whole series now of paint-ups that I want to do, including a cap shield and a ghostbusters proton wand thrower. Who knows? Maybe you'll see them on camera soon. Until next time, stay creative, and remember - props make everything better!

upcoming hasbro uh proton pack i'm very excited so i've been built  i have been increasing my prop collection with some mass-market pieces and here ishere is one um it's funny it's labeled as the action figures one piece avn  legends gear broomstick avengers i love a weird name skew as much as the next guy but i was like  did i accidentally order like a quidditch broom um no this is the um this is stormbreaker yesyesdude umstormbreaker yeah look at all the lighting here's the lighting reference um  so let's crack this puppy open let's see what we got i love this weapon by the way i after i open this i've got another thing to show you  i may have to pull the camera back a little bitoh it is in two partsoh okay oh look at that all right something lifts right outokay there oh yeahi can see right away it needs a little paintheld together with a couple of big big ass zip tiesheld for shipping uh i can tell right now having whoops wait what was that oh no that  was just it okay um having been obsessively looking at pictures of stormbreaker latelyi can tell you it's a nicely accurate piece especially in thethe groot's sacrificial arm handledude that's so amazing okay so what happens hereall right thereoh look at thatoh don't you roll off thereokay so let's look at the instructions shall weall alrighty then so there's a whole section that comes off oh wowwow look at that nifty okay so there is abattery slotoh all right phillipsokay three double a'sit is oh i put it in my back pocket is what i did  i was going to say it is remarkable how fast i can lose thingsall right for that this is really nice they've the the uh  the wood here on the on the i keep wanting to say mjolnir um the wood here iswowi see now how it goes all rightokay so now it's time to put this back togethersooh it's got lights crazy okay stop there we go now let's see  does it have oh i see there we go oh coolhey stop itwowapparently it has lots of its own adventures all right let's seemaybe that turn it off ladies and gentlemenahyeah it's got some red some lights that are like shining on it okay i really wish it would stop  making all this noise oh wow the whole thing glows good lord the whole thing is lit upwell thenthat sounded like a car horn well hellosoit does not explain how to turn it off  let me see if there's anything in here that helps me learn how to turn it on  all right uh we're pulling out the batteries because i gotta be able to talkyou know i know that they've built some functionality into this  but frankly if it's inscrutable as to how to how it works and you can't actually turn it off  that's annoying so i'm just not going to worry about it i prefer a silent prop uh when i had kids  something i did a couple of times when their toys came with sounds i would frequently  before i gave them those toys open the toy up and solder a resistor between the speaker and its uh  input to lower the volume yeah all right let's talk about stormbreaker for a second  this is a great prop this is uh definitely a hero size this is it's substantial  it's got some nice structure to it which i dig it totally needs a paint job without a doubt  uh and that's definitely like the next step for me uh with my journey with this prop  but this isn't my only stormbreaker and i want to show you the other oneyeah i'm just gonna go get it  so here is the hero one accurate in every detail that i can surmise  the writing is correct the design is correct the layout and the worn parts the geometry  it's all dead on the money and that's what you would expect from the mass market piece  it's not what you used to be able to expect but now it certainly is and then i picked up this  on uh i think etsy the thing about this is uh that's totally astounding is that it's actually  made of metal and it's not just metal it's not pot metal hold on i'm about to show you thisare you ready it's freaking steel it's actually cast steel i've never  seen a prop made of castile and it has many inaccuracies this writing shouldn't be there  this design isn't right this looks pretty darn good um and we can start to look at it  and we can see yeah okay so it's a little bit small it's definitely a little small  um but there's something i love about this thing hold on i just want you to see thisthere you go you readyyeah this thing is so freaking heavy is it feels to me like the experience it feels like what  i would imagine it would feel like to pick up stormbreaker and that's really neat like that  in there is the like when i s i'm always saying i'm looking for a certain experience with a prop  this is what i want and i'm going to i'm going to do some weathering on this i'm going to do some  um final polishing and shining on this part to uh to make the front end look really deadly  um i'm going to uh actually redo the handle not entirely i'm just going to add some more sculpted  vines up here because as you can see on the real one there is much more of a much more of a vine  structure around the thing um and it's a funny one because normally when i pick up something  like this and i look at it and i find details that are wrong i get a little sad about it you  know i want to that's not the one i want i like fidelity is always really important but frankly  the weirdness of this being actual cast steel the handle looks great it feels  great to hold and i just love the humor of having this in my shop and someone going oh  hey can i pick up your stormbreaker and i'll be like yeah and then they go  what the freaking hell yeah that that that makes me very happy so uh that's it yeah we've uh uh  we are we are we are well protected here at the cave thank you guys for joining me for this  unboxing um we'll you know i've got like a whole series now of paint ups that i want to do i want  to paint up a cap shield i want to paint up do a paint pass on the ghostbusters proton wand thrower  i want to do a paint job on this thing there's a lot of prop painting in my future good portion  it's probably going to end up on camera thank you guys for joining me for this i'm adam savage  here in my cave and i will see you guys next time\n"
