First Turbo Manifold I Have Ever Made

Yesterday We Were Working On This Turbo Manifold For My Hatch And We Left Off With Just Getting These Two Middle Runners Done And I Already Went Ahead And Got This Third One All Tacked Up Got These Pieces Cut Out And This One's Ready To Be Welded And Right Now I'm Finishing Up The Last One On The Other Side And I Already Have All The Pieces Cut Out It's Just These Two Pieces Right Here And That Piece Is Straight On The Vise And Right Now I Just Need To Bevel The Edges On These Guys Before I Tack It All Up.

The goal for the day is to get this turbo manifold done, and so far, it's looking good. I've already completed two of the middle runners and now I'm working on the third one, which is also ready to be welded. To make sure everything fits properly, I need to bevel the edges of the pieces before tacking them up. The plan is to double up some of the welds to ensure a strong bond between the manifold and the head flange.

As I work on the turbo manifold, I'm making progress one piece at a time. First, I needed to break off all the tax from the head flange, followed by removing the collector. Now, I'll be welding each runner individually around the weld joints before reassembling everything. This approach ensures that all welds are accessible and can be done properly with a TIG torch.

Once all the welds are complete, the manifold will be fully assembled and ready to attach to the head flange and collector on each runner. The reason for welding each runner individually is that some spots cannot be accessed with the TIG torch when they're in place. By taking them off individually, I can weld them up properly before reattaching them.

The final step will involve cutting a hole in the side of the collector to fit the wastegate flange and then welding it into position. This flange will help direct exhaust gases away from the wastegate when boost is applied. The plan is to run a bead around this area to secure the flange in place.

Now that I've completed most of the work, it's time to put everything together and make sure the welds are clean and strong. As you can see, I'm quite pleased with the progress made so far. The welds on the head flange are good quality, and the wastegate flange is also looking neat.

Although I've finished the turbo manifold for my hatch, it won't be installed on the car tonight due to some remaining work to be done on other components like the intercooler setup. However, with this completed, the hatch will eventually make boost again, and hopefully, soon. For now, it's time to wrap up this video and let you guys know that I've got the manifold done. In the next one, we'll see how far we can get on reassembling everything and getting back on the streets.
