The Aorus 2080 Ti Extreme rendered about two percent more frames on average than the RTX 3070 FE at 1080p, making it safe to assume that a factory overclocked 2080 Ti would have less of a lead and might even be slower than the 3070. However, the RTX 3080 pulls well ahead of both cards, but not as much as it could since its bottlenecks pretty heavily by the CPU at this resolution.
At 1440p, the 2080 Ti Extreme is just 2.4 percent faster than the RTX 3070 FE, even a factory overclocked 2080 Ti barely outpaces the 500 Ampere GPU at the sweet spot resolution for most gamers. Notably, the RTX 3080 is like "why am I even here" in this matchup, as it's insulted by being paired against such weak video cards. The fans on the RTX 3070 are ramping up in protest.
At 2160p, the RTX 2080 Ti sees its biggest lead over the RTX 3070 yet, a whopping 3.7 percent. This significant difference in performance would likely go unnoticed most of the time, with the smoother gaming experience provided by the custom 2080 Ti being only occasionally appreciated.
The big question is whether the RTX 3070 is faster than the RTX 2080 Ti in an unfair fight like this one with a beefed-up 2080 Ti. If so, the answer is no - the 2080 Ti is still the same beast it's always been, and anyone who has one right now should feel super grateful unless they paid $1,200 for it just before this launch. However, an overclocked 2080 Ti can move past RTX 3070 levels of performance, but only by a margin that's hardly even a selling point or bragging right.
If the author had actually tested a factory unlocked 2080 Ti, the scores between both cards would be even closer than they already are, and it would likely be a draw. This means that even if the RTX 3070 isn't always faster than the 2080 Ti across the board, it offers an unprecedented value while delivering lots of frames and 4K gaming capability for $500.
The next question is whether we'll be able to get our hands on an RTX 3070 or will they be in short supply like the other 30 series cards before it. Technically, we should already know the answer by the time you're watching this, as rumors and leaks have been circulating for weeks about the availability of these GPUs.
Finally, another curiosity is how AMD's upcoming Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs will perform what they'll cost and if they can compete with NVIDIA's Ampere lineup. Stay tuned for more on that.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso when it was first announced nvidia claimed that the rtx 3070 was faster than the 1200 rtx 2080 ti but would cost less than half the price at just 500 bucks and since then we've seen the obligatory deluge of leaked benchmarks and countless rumors but today we can officially validate whether nvidia's claims are true if they're false we can all burn nvidia at the stake and become amd fanboys for life but if they are true the rtx 3070 could very well offer some of the best priced performance of any gaming gpu we've seen in recent history but first a word from our sponsor us the ensemble one is our first fully custom desk map that we've ever made our in-house design features an assortment of pc parts scattered across the mat to create an artistic surface for your mouse and keyboard we also sourced a supplier who could print to our standards resulting in vibrant color and finely printed lines that accentuate every detail measuring 90 by 40 centimeters the mats are three millimeters thick and feature a microfiber surface stitched edges and a non-slip rubber backing also available is the ensemble m which takes a minimalist design approach to the ensemble one with all the same quality features both styles are available in six different colors to match your desk setup so if you like what you see and would also like to support the content we make head to bitwit.tech and get your mat today now before we get into the nitty gritty benchmarks i want to talk about the cart itself first it's no surprise that the rtx 3070 founders edition borrows the same design cues as its bigger bros and it also features top notch build quality that's pretty much unmatched right now physically the card carries the same width and 2 slot design as the 3080 fe but it's about 1.7 inches shorter at nine and a half inches or 242 millimeters long this is actually great news if you're planning to put one of these in a small form factor case assuming thermals don't suck which we'll touch on later unlike the 3080 and 3090 fe the rtx 3070 has both of its fans mounted to the same side of the cooler but it still uses the same flow-through design that ejects heat at the top of the card through its partially open back plate the big black heatsink is back and apart from the fans it basically takes up the entire mass of the card and it's glorious i love it in the middle there's a single 12-pin power connector for which nvidia includes a 12-pin to single 8-pin adapter it's not the prettiest but arguably looks cleaner than the 3080 fes adapter with its dual pin connectors for the rear i o you get one hdmi 2.1 port and three displayport 1.4 a ports for a total of up to four connected monitors and for benchmarking i tested the rtx 3070 fe against the 3080 fe and of course the rtx 2080 ti however because all of my rtx 2080 ti founders edition cards are currently in custom loop systems which i realize is a very nice problem to have i've benchmarked the aorus rtx 2080 ti extreme for today's comparison to be honest it's not a fair fight the aorus 2080 ti ships with a factory oc which takes its boost clock to 770 megahertz which is about 8.2 percent faster than the 2080 ti fe after number crunching all the benchmark data from a tom's hardware review of the aorus 2080 ti extreme they found that card to be 3.3 faster on average than the 2080 ti fe at 1440p and 2.5 faster than it at 2160p so this puts the rtx 3070 fe at a slight disadvantage right out of the gate that we'll have to keep in mind as we go over these benchmarks it's a small price to pay though for keeping hotline 2.0 intact the cards are running stock on an open air test bed with an amd ryzen 9 3950x on an aorus x570 master with 16 gigs of ddr4 3400 speed our first comparison is full system power draw where the 3070 fv system pulled 407 watts from the wall beating out the other cards by over 100 watts assuming the 3070s performance is within ballpark of the rtx 2080 ti this is a true testament to the vastly improved performance per watt of the ampere architecture that powers the rtx 30 series for the 3070 fv nvidia recommends a 650 watt power supply but an average gamer with a reliable and efficient 550 watt unit probably won't have any issues running this card i'm saying that in case you already have a unit of that caliber but if you're building a new system might as well go for 650 watts thermally speaking the rtx 3070 fe performed adequately in our 15 minute unigine heaven test at 1440p hitting a max temperature of 73 degrees celsius which is notably cooler than the other cards tested this gives the 3070 fv significantly more thermal headroom for overclocking or environments where cooling is limited like small form factor builds now i didn't do a sound test but the 3070 fv runs about as quiet as the 3080 fe which is to say it's super quiet and you really shouldn't be concerned about noise if you're buying this card for testing i ran all games at 1920 by 1080 2560 by 1440 and 3840 by 2160. for most of our 1080p benchmarks you're gonna see a lot of cpu bottlenecking as expected so those results won't be super telling or even exciting but at the higher resolutions you'll see a bit more disparity between the 3070 and 2080 ti but it's it's close guys it's a really close matchup for this test i also added three new ray tracing supported benchmarks to our suite port royal which is 3dmark's ray tracing benchmark control and wolfenstein youngblood those two game titles were tested with ray tracing and dlss enabled and now the moment you've been waiting for it is benchmark time but stay tuned for after the graphs where we discuss the bottom line performance of these cards and how the rtx 3070 stacks up against nvidia's last gen flagship here are the benchmarks foreign so difference doesn't mean anything bad it just means that you're special you're one-of-a-kind all right so as usual i added up the average fps of all eight game titles to give us an overall look at performance and at 1080p the aorus 2080 ti extreme rendered about two percent more frames on average than the rtx 3070 fe so it's safe to assume that a 2080 ti founders edition would have less of a lead and might even be slower than the 3070. either way it's extremely close meanwhile the rtx 3080 pulls well ahead of both cards but not as much as it could since its bottlenecks pretty heavily by the cpu at this resolution at 1440p the 2080 ti extreme is just 2.4 percent faster than the 37d fe even a factory overclocked 2080 ti barely gaming experience a custom 2080 ti provides would likely go unnoticed most of the time once again the rtx 3080 reminds us that it's in a league of its own and is a superior gpu in every area except availability so to answer the big question is the rtx 3070 faster than the rtx 2080 ti if you're looking at an unfair fight like this one with a beefed up 2080 ti the answer is no the 2080 ti is still 2080 ti across the board it offers an unprecedented value while delivering lots of frames and 4k gaming capability for 500 it also means there's no longer a reason to buy a new rtx 20 dti that costs over twice as much so at this time we'll share a moment of silence while pressing f to pay respects i guess the next question is will we be able to get our hands on an rtx 3070 or will they be in
