when your gear heads like us stock just doesn't cut it just like with real cars there are millions of upgrades for these cars to modify them to your heart's desire today we're going to build both high and low car with their respective components and put them head to head here at the competition track here at Super G oh god dude you talking is not helping does more expensive mean more better today we're gonna find out on a 1 10 scale here on high team I've got my boy Jeremiah here to help me assemble this High RC car neither of us have really ever done this before and all of my instructions are in Japanese but luckily there's pictures on here Justin is here to help out but this is a very small space for even two hands but Justin did do something very important yesterday that will reveal a little later so let's get right into it the difference in high and low car will be this shark conversion kit this kit is made of anodized aluminum and carbon fiber upper and lower decks it costs 360 dollars this will overhaul all the suspension bits the hubs the knuckles the control arms and we will essentially have a whole new chassis when it's complete low car will be retaining the ready to run chassis I don't envy High team because that seems like a lot of work Hey where's my other uh control arm shaft thingy where was it in front of you electronics are in place next up is the Springs I gotta choose which Springs to use I think I'm probably going to use not a full stiff in the rear but a little softer because it is pretty heavy just took the stock suspension off my yokomo here and you can see it's a plastic shaft inside of a plastic kind of housing it looks pretty ugly compared to the Sweet eighty dollar coilovers on high carbs yeah made out of uh all machined aluminum and that's actually got fluid in there thanks to me putting it in there I'm not gonna be surprised if he's leak after all I put him together okay so we are getting down there we've got a lot of the suspension and the purple parts installed so now it's time to get into the electronics High car will be getting a 185 dollar accuvance fledge motor for a smoother throttle control faster top speed and aluminum housing for better heat dissipation looks pretty cool so why would someone spend 185 on this bringing Joe he's one of the owners of Super G good to see you again man thank you guys for having us the stock motor that has little brushes inside that'll wear out over time and that's something that you will have to always fix the nicer motor is this is a maintenance free so you don't do anything it has a sensor core so it's kind of a cam mingle on a real car okay knows where the motor is so it's a smoother power delivery dude this thing coming together no time flat so I'm about to install the receiver for our transmitter which Jerry's pulling out of the bag right now and I haven't seen it yet look at that that's a pretty nice one oh baby oh and check this out you get to do it again oh look how ergonomic let me handle it this one is on 4G so just like a cell phone so the connectivity of this is super fast another upgrade that High car is getting that low car is missing out on is an electronic speed controller or ESC for that High car is getting the zarvis xxesc which is being paired with this Blaze capacitor and the raystorm cooling fan this ESC will help create smooth power delivery according to the throttle input from the remote and the blaze capacitor gives short-term power delivery to the electronics instead of having to travel all the way through the electrical system to pull power from our full-size battery and the cooling fan well it cools the ESC getting dang close now the way that steering is controlled on RC cars is by way of what's called a Servo low car is going to be getting a power HD R12 which while high car is going to be getting this Futaba CT 701 Servo this thing is so expensive because it's fully programmable meeting can mimic any Servo on the market that's something that almost gives me a little concern while this is obviously the better part I don't know if I'm going to be able to make the most of it or not look at that that's on there that's on there boom damn that's fast I need one of those from my car okay both Servo upgrades show an immense Improvement in turn rate but I think the big difference we will see is the power of our Servo motor to hold the wheels in the right position during our drifts it drives really smooth when it comes to comparing RC components to full-size car parts most Parts pretty much have a full-size counterpart except for the gyro our eyes ears and touch and sense of feeling tell us where we are on the road but since we're not inside of the RC cars well we need all the orientation help we can get it was working remember and that's where Gyros come in these things sense the orientation of the car and will guide the steering and over steering to correct it while you're in the middle of a drift like this exactly so it's doing some of the counter steering for you over on low carb we have this 45 dollar power HD G1 drift gyro and for High car we bought this 130 Futaba gyd 550. it uh it reacts and uh yeah keeps you from spinning out basically it drifts for you all right now that we've seen ours in action let's see how high card goes shut up listen we'll show you in a minute now that all the electronics are in and dialed in thank you Joe for all your help on that I'm gonna get some zip ties and clean this up make it look nice we'll put the spine back on and then move on to the body Justin spent all day yesterday painting low carbs bodies Justin really killed it but now we have the part of the day that I've been dreading the hood on low car is carbon fiber and we have a carbon fiber vinyl right here now I'm gonna try to put one onto locar without doing a bad job we're going to mask off the hood and spray these vents black so when we do put the vinyl wrap on there and cut it uh no blue will be poking out it'll just be black or carbon fiber for the hood perfect that's the part you're most excited about I've been dreading this all day we shouldn't have done this oh yeah look at that my first one I think I did okay I get a c you know foreign bodies are here Justin and I did this together Justin handled the paint he killed it we also have the the elephant nose Squidward nose whatever you want to call it it really captures low carbs it looks pretty good now this cost us 200 and guess how much work job and I had to do zero we gave this to Joe he custom painted it matched the color of High car perfectly so let's break down our total cost for these builds we both started with the 330 dollar yd2 chassis low team added a 50 Servo a 45 gyro 20 Springs and a forty dollar battery with a 150 remote for a total of 635 dollars if you add the 30 body we're looking at 665 dollars and the wheels and tires were set that already owned and High car we used about three parts from that 330 dollar chassis added them to our 360 dollar shark conversion kit installed 185 dollar motor 250 ESC fan and capacitor combo 260 dollar Servo 130 dollar gyro 80 shocks 40 battery 200 body 15 bucks of miscellaneous bits and Bobs and our 800 dollar remote for a total price of two thousand six hundred and fifty dollars if you account for the professional tune that costs us another 200 bucks so we're looking at 28.50 for our remote control drift car what are you gonna drive for less than three thousand dollars that's gonna like blow your socks off a motorcycle medical bills are also very high so we're gonna test our drift cars here at Super G we're gonna figure out which one we like better does more expensive mean more better it's time to find out thanks to them to see if I can tell the difference between High car and low car I got a high car in my hands I'm not gonna lie to you it feels pretty sweet the way this is like just so easy to control is honestly mind-blowing like right out of the box I was just doing donuts which is awesome I'm surprised to to see this big of a difference I really thought that you know the cool parts are nice and everything but I didn't think the difference would be this big it's a lot of things coming together obviously but I think the remote is a big thing you get really low latency so it's super responsive uh the the motor in this thing is very good and the turbo mode works really well so when you need a little extra boost it's right there you just pull throttle and it goes but I also think that you can't really underestimate the quality of the setup from the guys at Super G you know they've been doing this for a long time so they know the ideal setup in terms of suspension and alignment and everything this one is dialed in okay I got a little car out I am surprised it feels way less like smoothly controllable and you can even see the wheels the steering wheels kind of moving more where the other one is so planted I'm assuming that's probably got to do with the gyro and the servo this is my first time driving low car and all right listen it's good it's like better probably than any of our personal ones but it's way worse than high carb yeah well and that confirms for me that in this case more expensive does mean more better but let's see what the pros can do with these cars all right we have our professional drivers behind the wheel of both high and low car we are going to do tandem runs and decide once and for all which car is ready for the professional circuits all right gentlemen are you ready starter Ready Ready Set go low team heading off High car tucked in wow what a tandem let's see them going to the judging Zone High car lagging Just a Touch behind but hanging on the low cars rear end there into that second judging Zone hello car streams out but they go into the asses High car right behind low car at risk of being passed they're side by side into the final judging Zone oh low team spins out and High car crosses the line it was a beautiful lead run by low car until the very end I'm out of breath all right guys after both of you had the chance to drive both cars which one uh did you prefer definitely for me it was the high car overall you would progress faster with that card it just it is just better all right so we're actually going to leave these
