Testing Our New Drift Jump!

what you can see is the title of this video so if you remember the original compound video that we made there's a little section of the compound that i would say closest resembles a jump and by that it's basically a little bump in the concrete gets the car weightless for a second and that kind of gave me the idea of wanting to do a branded bc feature at the compound that is like a permanent living fixture of a drift jump that we can launch cars off side-by-sides bikes skateboards the idea kind of died off just because we really didn't have spare time and building a jump for a car is a rather time intensive project now fast forward we have the lz invitational coming up get your tickets if you haven't yet those links in the description still got some car show entries and it's on the osw skid pad we've got a really big grand prize 17 000 c6 corvette and i wanted to spice up the layout a little bit bc racing wanted to have some sort of like fun fixture on the track and then the idea came back to life what if we put a jump on the osw skid pad i knew that we had way too much on our hands between fixing all the cars and prepping for the event to have the time to build something in this caliber so i reached out to cricket the main fabricator for drift hq awesome guy he drew up a sketch said he could make it happen and the next day we had material when he was already starting to weld while i was at pri mike was here filming and i'm going to include a little montage here of the process of building this ramp deep deep down if you guys watch this video you might hear a little all right so so while they're doing that i'm gonna we decided to work on some of the cars getting ready 36 the 350z i'll be driving anyways we decided to throw in the angle kit on the 370z uh from gk tech um so it's pretty much a bolt-on affair apart from the bone stop here the factory bone stop that you have to cut out gk tag dan over at uk tech has a pretty good video good video on the install so i'm not gonna go through any of the install stuff we put in that on we're gonna tow plate it put on the ground and hopefully this car could make it to the event and adam make uh pretty cool flame and jumps on it the car is not on the lift that's uh we're gonna test it with the jump with that car and we're gonna have a lifted z over there so yeah hopefully this works out and then hopefully the jump works out and that should be pretty pretty cool hopefully yeah hopefully everybody lifts up their cars and yeah it's gonna be we'll see it's not that tall can't drive him i saw my car or i would that's the guy in a stock height car oh my god i agree anybody that comes through they have to jump it in order to leave the compound fedex truck included i just had to put it right by the front entrance you know what i mean so as soon as you come in you just gotta hit the jump it's so bright let's see how durable it actually is oh keep going that part's not welded down yet yeah don't worry about it look at that though the parts that's welded cut to your left keep coming keep going yeah keep on cruising yeah now back up we got it holds a ups truck no excuses now cricket what have you done i built you a ramp look at this thing guys so this is 16 feet wide it's currently 16 it's going to be 24 by 24 to add a little bit more in case you want to stack more than two cars on it six so the idea is hopefully we'll be able to jump off this thing tandem now i know you haven't filmed it yet but you're always going to film a little uh talk through with you to kind of go into more detail of how you constructed this thing but sure i explained how i sent you a message and i don't know if you thought i was joking but you were down and next day we haven't yet i thought you said eight feet at first like hey can you build me a ramp i want to jump cars yeah sure and then i missed prinet like he had the two instead of the one so i thought it was eight feet not eight inches so this thing is eight inches off the ground it is 20 feet long and it may look really mellow i actually spoke with chelsea about this chelsea is one of those dudes that knows everything about everything and he's like if you do a jump it needs to be at least 20 feet long otherwise the suspension won't have enough time to settle and you'll end up bucking and doing like a nosedive or the car will just not behave properly so at the speed that we'll be going hopefully this will be enough time for the car and or cars to settle um we're about to test this thing so he's got a couple more welds to do on the front plates and we're good to go sick i'm stoked i'm gonna go get the car ready all right let's do it let's do this when i sent the group of drivers the idea that we were doing a jump i don't think people thought i was serious and when they saw it start coming to life people are getting scared no one wants to raise their car everyone's worried it's going to break stuff according to chelsea as long as we clutch in it should be okay but if you stay on the gas you might break an axle for testing purposes we're going to be using the z have the boys raise it up and back a few inches just to make sure that i don't smack anything on the ground and then this will kind of be the test dummy to figure out what we need to do with the other cars now johan's going to be driving my z at the event and then i'm going to be driving my e36 so the idea is test it with the z figure out how the car behaves how the jump treats the suspension of the car then from there we have data and everyone else can start to adjust their cars as chassis guys know how they need to go z guys know how high they need to go we ain't gonna know nothing until we try it out so let's get out of there and let's test this jump two little disclaimers uh the z is not aligned right now this height is literally just like quick let's raise the rear so i don't destroy something because my different exhausts are really low on the car if it works well and like does what we expect then we'll either align it here or we'll lower it back some more um and i don't think the jump is in an optimal spot right now on the compound but before we move it around and obsess over i just want to hit it once to get an idea of how fast i need to go and what it does to the car all right we're gonna do a little grip test to see how like it's gonna be so i don't hit it and then like mario kart banana peel out what you'd expect it's not bad mmm that felt great it looked sick on camera yeah it did exactly what i expected it to do anything that's weird i think we raised the z too much because i think i can hear the axles binding yeah you got probably positive four degrees of camber right now yeah the axles don't like it yeah so i don't know how much i should use this car on it but um tbd on that my ramp didn't collapse it's good we were worried about it we tested with the ups truck we tested with the forklift all the cars uh chris from drift hq jumped in with his 4runner so he's pretty good we need to go faster yeah a little faster i'd say like 55 would be the money number you think i'm honestly more scared just about the axles than the jump they just feel like they're like binding a bunch right now like you know when they're they don't have any free play yeah so i'll do it again i just don't want to i don't want to enter too wide and then go off the side of the ramp are you accelerating when you land no i'm pretty sure it's off throttle just like literally on the ground accelerating i can feel the backing like oh yeah i'll hit it again so the front end hit so i gotta came a little close on that one oh boy god scrape the earth on that one there is that one better it was a lot gnarlier yeah it was a little scary um so we definitely need to like paint lines on the side of it yeah because when you're coming at it you can't see it at all that's pretty scary so part of the problem with where it is right now you can't really get a good run up or like a good flick at it it'll be a lot better once it's a few wider because right now like i don't think you can fit the full car sideways unless you have like an angled approach so we're gonna try it here it'll be the opposite way that we'll no this will be the right way that we'll be entering let's get back i don't know if you'll be able to get like the proper run-up at it but it should give a little bit better idea of like being able to have the car settled and hopefully initiate a little more sideways instead of putting all the weight on the front i didn't aim any names about who was scared oh the jump bro i wasn't even going to say your name you just put yourself on the spot this guy every conversation for the past two weeks bro it's not going to work i'm not going off working pat isn't working you drove off the end of it yeah yeah the car is intact the jump's intact had a good time no no one's hurt oh can you tan them off that no that bro need a little bit of engineering on how to transfer this thing easily because as of right now i'd say there's a 50 50 shot that this is gonna live on track the whole time we need to make it wider and do a little more testing but we're gonna try in a different location and then the yes chassis boys are going to try going off of it and see if it upsets those cars more or less than the z um yeah yeah actually handbraked on it and it seemed to work pretty well crazy can i see it damn that's normal that's small yeah you're going to need more fronts than uh one pair pow do i just need to raise the front or do a little shavy shaving it's a very simple problem sir doesn't look very simple to me ziggler i can lower i'm stoked about that hey lee go higher all right next up we got lee you ready dog on his face am i right or am i right oh yeah that was good i haven't hit anything with a jump yet put a drift car that was good it's so it's it feels i know it doesn't look anything like it on camera but it feels remotely similar to manami so like a little sweet spot in my heart like just that feeling of like feeling the car and then staying in it yeah it was a lot smoother if you go faster go faster not wide enough for tandem in my opinion uh the tires on the z are rubbing however there's a lot of testosterone in the air so i think we need to tandem stay tuned yo you're crazy i have a lead one no so what i was trying to tell him is i need him to go faster and like momentum that's fine the problem was i didn't have enough speed to go off the jump because he powered away and i was like almost hit him that's fine foreign going fast enough so i wouldn't have made it off the jump so i just bailed yeah uh what's the best way for me to get out of this so i don't get stuck i would just back straight up honestly you're okay all right so we got some testing in i think the two biggest things we found out one we need to figure out a way that we can transport this easier as it stands right now sean's going to be stoked about this i don't know if i want to implement it in the competition but definitely in the call-out battles so i want to have this to be a part of the stream if you
