The Art of Driving: A Day with Aston Martin's DBX 707
As I stepped onto the little track that was prepared for me, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. The instructor, a former Formula 3 driver who also drove with Max Verstappen, greeted me with a warm smile and said, "Okay, let's get started." He explained that the key to this track was speed, but not too much – we needed to get to know it a little bit first.
The DBX 707 proved to be an incredible car, with its incredible abilities and agility. As I navigated the track, I found myself enjoying the experience more and more with each turn. The instructor advised me to give it some extra bead in third gear to continue, and I was happy to oblige. He also shared tips on how to navigate the turns, emphasizing the importance of shallow slides and carrying speed through the corners.
One particular corner caught my attention – a left-handed hairpin that seemed to take forever to approach. The instructor demonstrated a reverse entry technique, where he would come in at an angle and then suddenly accelerate out of the turn. I was amazed by the angles he could achieve with this car and was eager to try it myself.
As we made our way through the track, I couldn't help but notice how well the DBX 707 responded to my inputs. The instructor told me to just talk to the car and say "I want this" – a philosophy that seemed to work beautifully. With every turn, I felt like I was getting a better sense of the car's capabilities and limitations.
One particularly aggressive slide caught my attention – the instructor had somehow managed to get the front wheels to pull out of the slide again. I was amazed by the recovery technique and couldn't help but ask him how he did it. He explained that once you've done this, you kind of always want to do it again – a sentiment I couldn't deny as I found myself wanting to repeat the slide over and over.
As we finished our time on the track, the instructor told me that the DBX 707 was a car that highlights its strengths by pushing it to the limit. And with Esa Martin at the helm, I could see why – this car is an absolute beast on the road. With the sun setting in the background and a sense of accomplishment wash over me, I realized that I had learned so much about this incredible vehicle.
The next challenge was carto car filming, which seemed like a great way to cap off an already amazing day. As we set up the cameras and microphones, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to be here and learn from Esa Martin. With the camera rolling and the DBX 707 ready to go, I was excited to see what the next few hours had in store.
As we headed back to the hotel for dinner and a well-deserved rest, I couldn't stop thinking about the DBX 707. This car is truly something special – its ability to handle even the most aggressive driving styles with ease is nothing short of remarkable. And as I looked over at Esa Martin, who was also enjoying his post-driving dinner, I knew that this had been an experience I would never forget.
With a sense of excitement and anticipation building in my chest, I realized that tomorrow would bring new challenges and opportunities to push the DBX 707 to its limits. And as I drifted off to sleep that night, I couldn't help but wonder what the next day would bring – only time would tell, but one thing was for sure: this car had won me over forever.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up ladies and gentlemen and welcome to this POV review by autotop now my name is Max and today we are in the Arctic Circle as you can see we're on a frozen lake here in ymok uh we are in Sweden and I've been invited by EST Martin to come and drive the dbx 707 M ice very very cool experience yesterday evening we already did a snowmobile tour which was incredible in the dark going through the forest very very cool and we have an incredible hotel as well the tree hotel and I think I got the jackpot because I am in the bird's nest which is literally like a bird's nest and it's a super cozy little room with a lad going up the middle absolutely incredible experience I've always wanted to come here as you can see uh the sun is very low we are actually in the Arctic Circle which means that they have 10 weeks of uninterrupted sunlight here it does not go dark during the summer for 10 weeks which is pretty incredible uh the sun comes up at like 9: in the morning and goes down at 3:00 it is incredible so we are here with 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 I think 10 dbx 707s uh as you can see we've got the super aggressive Arrow package I've shown you everything on the 707 so I'll do a quick recap at it is the more powerful more sporty and more polished version of the dbx really it is a dbx with its Point sharpened it's like a very very good evolution of a very good car already uh and to be honest the 707 it really comes very close to being a sports car SUV there are only two in my opinion that can really say that one this one and two the Porsche Ken turbo GT they really are the only cars that can claim the SUV that feels like a sports car thing that so many people claim so as you can see we've got prelli scorpion winter tires and then we have these studs as well to help us grip now we drove here on a completely Frozen Highway and because we have these studs you actually just drive like 100 120 km an hour and it is perfectly fine I tried breaking and steering a couple times but you have so much grip it is super super impressive also uh a bucket list check for me to to drive a car with studs uh once so yeah you can see that they are just pressed into the Rubber and then we've got Standard carbon ceramic brakes for the 707 uh it's 40 kilos of unsprung weight that you save with the 707 so yeah pretty serious weight saving these are 22in wheels you can also have 23s optionally we've got this gorgeous green of course as Martin being the king of green and then at the front we've got some aggressive front bumper additions as well to guide the air out of the wheel wells and we have a more aggressive bigger Grill to take in more air uh to feed the engine because that now produces 707 horsepower 900 newm of torque so serious performance from this SUV uh We've driven it on the one it was really quick and then we've got a couple other really nice specs as well so we've got this like matte orange version uh a gray one got a purple one over there which also looks absolutely in insane so yeah we're going to do a couple of activities today so first up is a slalom which is just an exercise to get warmed up basically to just get a feel for the grip and of course the limits of the car and of yourself uh then we've got some Scandinavian flick drifting through a corner and uh after that in the afternoon we'll be having lunch in the TP and then we'll do some track driving so they also carved out some tracks here so we can drive on that as well now as you can see it is super slippery uh you can actually see like a little polished layer on there and that is because it's like 2 and 1 12° out today uh which is very warm for this time of year uh two weeks ago just to give you an idea it was- 47 here and just a week ago it was - 26 so uh yeah it the the temperature just kept climbing and that is why it's mega mega slippery normally you have like a little layer of snow that sticks to the ice like this which means that you have a lot more grip but now it is just super slippery so should be an extra challenge there a lot of fun and I'm super happy that I can take you guys with me to experience ice driving with Esther Martin so let's go yes very clean looking good oh so the exercise here is you know it's pretty slow uh low Pace everything happens uh really at a slow pace and that means that you can control it easily and that is how you learn of course that is how you hone your skills oh that is lovely next up level two is a high-speed corner I'm going for third gear I think so a bit to the side and then push it and maintain the drift good control I like it and then you stand perfect woo that is very nice so level three is a Scandinavian flick so go to the left and then go to the right no oh it was going so well it was going so well so I got pulled out uh I don't have any footage from it because my door uh was unable to open my door because of the snow but I was going a bit too fast I think in third gear a bit too much to the left a bit too wide and then when I started looking in inside the corner I went to that direction or something it was kind of weird so super fun nonetheless and honestly you have to plow it into the snow once at least when you're here right I mean that is just happens I'm getting a hold of it second gear third gearo that was amazing that so you could see that the steering wheel was so much uh less so I was steering a lot less basically and just controlling the rear of the car with the throttle so here we go again Scandinavian flick little bit of power third gear and then throttle it out oh yeah amazing in I'm INE so here we are on the little track that they prepared for us absolutely incredible so speed is not too high I think if you want you know you could like go a little bit faster but for now it's more important to get to know the track a little bit Ah this is the one yeah okay so this is the one you need to like give it some extra bead in third gear to be able to continue and then here set it up on the right I think down to second gear slow down a little bit third gear I also really like the more like shallow uh slides where you really carry speed through the corner and then just have like a higher gear and just keep it going that's nice that's nice yes Max there we go oh that is beautiful beautiful well done well done I'm I'm complimenting myself here because that is just absolutely nailing it so there we go third gear to pull it through that is outrageous so we'll try to do what he said the instructor jul who is a crazy former Formula 3 driver who also drove with Max foren uh I actually went on a little trip with him and he was like sliding the car around yeah sideways yeah and he said you have to do that in a very aggressive angle so we'll try that later on as well oh but this is very very cool it's like if you do it right it's very Zen you don't have to to give the car too much input really you're just letting the car slide around a little bit and try to third gear try to like let the throttle do the talking as I said so I just asked Jill the instructor a question about the corner back there and he was like yeah come on I'll show you so he goes into this corner like freaking reverse entry and he says look that's how you do it like what the hell dude how yeah I'm coming now how good do you think I am but this is it's incredible the angles you can achieve with this car and then look at that just look the use just use the four-wheel drive to get out of it it is it is insane to just talk to the car and say like I want this and the car just responds so well so like for instance here just back to second gear just flick it in little bit of throttle third gear it just responds so well it's insane and also the angles you can maintain and also recover from those angles just let those front wheels look at that let those front wheels pull you out of the slide again okay more look at that look at that oh yeah that was a bit too early could not maintain that slide look at that look at that look at that oh yeah third gear oh yeah oh yeah that is amazing oh man Aston Martin what have you done to me I mean this is pretty hard to recover from because once you've done this you kind of always want to do it oh that is beautiful that is absolutely gorgeous oh very close there so this is the second track um it's a bit more technical apparently this is quite a fast bit and then I think it tightens up right around here this is also more like right-handed I would say whatever you ready let's go oh okay let it go here that is nice it's so nice that they've got two tracks here right let it go oh yeah y yep yep maybe I should try it in third gear also feels pretty good oh that is quick and then it tightens up here see oh that is beautiful beautiful now we know find the second next time you do oh looke super yes yes yes yes this I like it now out a little bit nice I like it how do I come back from that you know what it does this ice driving it it it highlights and it pinpoints certain strong points of a car like this I mean look at this this is like a 2ton plus SUV doing massive skits and it is so easy to control so he just said to me you need to be even quicker there I mean I'm I'm already feeling like I'm taking so much speed into these Corners oh no no no no no okay guys the Sun is setting we're going to do some carto car filming I believe so I'm going to end it here um I hope you enjoyed this little trip with me uh big thanks to Esa Martin for inviting me to come and have some fun in the dbx 707 all nice I learned so much today I really did uh first and foremost the incredible abilities of this car wow wow wow what an impressive car what an impressive day glorious had so
