Sony WH1000XM3 Wireless Headphones - Mini Review & Unboxing

**An In-Depth Review of Sony's WH-1000XM5 Headphones**

The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are an exceptional pair of wireless earbuds that offer outstanding noise cancellation, excellent audio quality, and a user-friendly interface. These headphones fit comfortably over the ears, making them suitable for extended periods of listening. The right-hand cup features a touch-sensitive panel, allowing you to adjust the volume by swiping up and down. The left-hand ear cup has a power switch and a noise cancellation button, which can be linked to your smartphone via Bluetooth. There is also a smartphone app that allows you to fine-tune the EQ settings for the headphones and optimize noise cancellation based on the environment.

One of the standout features of these headphones is their impressive noise cancellation capabilities. The sound isolation is superb, and the active noise control technology effectively reduces background noise, making it ideal for commuting, studying, or simply enjoying music in peace. However, some users may prefer a tactile button instead of the touch-sensitive panel on the right-hand cup, as gesture recognition can be tricky to master while walking.

The audio quality of these headphones is exceptional, with deep bass and crisp highs that make them suitable for high-res audio enthusiasts. The headphones support Bluetooth 5 and Sony's proprietary codec, which offers almost one megabit per second in bandwidth. However, if you're connecting these to an Apple device, you'll be limited to the AAC codec at 256 kilobits.

In terms of battery life, the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones last up to 30 hours on a single charge, making them suitable for extended periods of use without needing a recharge. The charging point is conveniently located on the right-hand ear cup. While they may not support simultaneous pairing with multiple devices, this hasn't been an issue for me during testing.

The retail experience for these headphones was somewhat underwhelming. I purchased my pair from Curry's in the UK and was disappointed to find that the unboxing process was marred by a damaged box. The security device tied on with metal wires had crushed the box, and when I unwrapped it, I found the box ripped and cellophane-wrapped. This lack of care for packaging is puzzling, especially considering the premium price point of these headphones.

In contrast, purchasing from online retailers like Amazon would have provided a pristine unboxing experience with a secure package that reflected positively on the brand. However, this minor quibble doesn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones. At £300 in the UK, they represent excellent value for money, offering superior noise cancellation and audio quality compared to other similar models.

Overall, I would highly recommend these headphones to anyone seeking exceptional wireless earbuds with top-notch features and performance. While the unboxing experience fell short of expectations, it's a minor complaint that doesn't affect my enthusiasm for these incredible headphones.

with this beautiful case with the headphones in I really like the the rose gold zip it's a hard case feels firm and you've got a two of elastic pocket on the back as well which is useful when we open up lovely padded inside with our headphones that neatly fold away we've also got a charging cable just a small one but it's standard USB CC'ing any USB C charger will work fine we have an audio cable as well so if your headphones are out of charge or you just want to plug in go analog for a while you've got a cable to do that with and of course these are noise cancelling headphones and a lot of people buy noise cancelling headphones for use on trains and aeroplanes and airplanes in particular of course you need an adapter if you're going to plug into the seat and one of those is included in there in the case these headphones feel really premium they're well built well made that very comfortable the leather padding on the top of the headband is comfortable the ear cups are comfortable and as you can see I'm blessed with larger ears and I find that these fit over my ears and are comfortable for extended periods of listening on the right-hand cup is a touch-sensitive panel and you you basically swipe up and down to change the volume left and right moves you to different tracks that you might be listening to I think I'd prefer a tactile button because it's very easy to get your gesture wrong when you're walking along and end up skipping a track when you didn't want to but it doesn't bother me overly on the left hand ear cup you've got the power switch and you've got the noise cancellation button you can link these headphones up to your smartphone and there's a smartphone app where you can adjust the EQ for the headphones and you can change the environment that you're in so that a noise cancellation is optimized for what you're doing the headphones don't support being paired to multiple devices at the same time they can only be paired with one device at a time but I've not found that to be a problem when you switch them on you just hold down the power button until it goes into pair in mode and then go into the Bluetooth settings on your computer the headphones will already be there you just hit connect and it's really simple so I don't mind that that's all obviously then you've also got the input on the left cut for the cable if you want to plug them in the charging point is on the right-hand ear cup they don't take long to charge and they last up to 30 hours on a single charge so really good battery life if you like high res audio these headphones support bluetooth 5 and also Sony's proprietary codec that offers almost one megabit per second in bandwidth of course if you're connecting these to an Apple device you'll always be limited to the 256 kilobits AAC codec that Apple insist on I don't understand why I haven't allowed high res wireless audio on their devices yet but maybe that's something that's coming soon it's not much else to say about these headphones for the price which in the UK is about 300 pounds I think they represent excellent value for money the noise cancellation is superb the audio quality is fantastic I don't think you'll be disappointed at all many reviewers are saying that these headphones outperform the Bose QuietComfort I haven't tried the Bose headphones myself so I can't testify to that but I can say these Sony's are fantastic now how about the unboxing experience my unboxing experience with these headphones was somewhat subpar now for buying a pair of headphones I want to be able to try them on because I need to check that the comfort is OK I need to hear the audio so I went to a retail store and I chose to go to Curry's in the UK Curry's is an electrical retailer in the store they had a pair of headphones out on display that I could try and then also they had a rack with the the boxes hanging and on the front of the rack is a lock security device you can't take the the boxes off the shelf but despite this curry still feel the need to put a security device on the box itself no I thought this would be a just a display box I didn't realize until I left the store though actually I what I got is a damaged box the security device ties on with these these metal wires and they've done it up so tight that they've they've crushed the box I'm a bit obsessive about my devices I like to keep them pristine and I like to keep the boxes and so if having a shabby box doesn't work so well for me but what really upset me is this was wrapped in cellophane and when I took the cellophane off what I noticed was the box is actually ripped now that to me doesn't make any sense I don't understand what curries are doing here they obviously took the box ripped it then wrapped it in cellophane put the security device on too tight as always and then put it on the shelf why do you do this curries why are you doing this no we live in a time where traditional bricks-and-mortar retail stores are suffering because they're being undercut by online retailers but here is an opportunity you know charge a little bit more and own the fact that you charge more by giving superlative service I should get my best purchasing experience an unboxing experience from a retail store and I'm happy to pay the premium for that but the reality is I could have bought these headphones for the same price from Amazon and I'd have got a pristine box delivered to me and I'd have had that premium unboxing experience so in the very miniscule chance someone from Curry's management is watching this video guys
