Our Pledge to You

What's Up Everyone: A Message from John Rettinger of TechnoBuffalo

Kind: captionsLanguage: en

As we continue to grow as a community, I want to take a moment to talk to you all about something that's very important to me. We've grown tremendously over the past few years, and with that growth comes responsibility. Now, I know we're just talking about cell phones and tablets and some electronics, but there's a lot of integrity both personal and professional at stake.

A Pledge to Our Audience

So, I want to make you guys a pledge and a promise. Any device we review will always let you know how many days we used it. If you read our battery test for example, you'll know that we spent the time to make those tests complete and to make sure that we know how long a device actually lasts. We can learn the nuances of a phone or tablet without having to rush a review.

Our Commitment to Quality

I've always been not first with our reviews because I want to make sure I know how a product works, but I also want to make sure you guys know how long we've been using the devices well. Beginning with our last review of the HTC One, we will always disclose how long we tested it. So, when we talk about battery life, we put it through the proper tests. When we recommend a device, it's only because we've used it ourselves and can vouch for its quality.

The Cost of Integrity

We understand now that this approach in the past has cost us thousands of page views, hundreds of thousands of video views, perhaps even millions. But it's something that's important to our company as part of our integrated organization. We don't have thirty thousand dollars worth of camera equipment, but we'll do our best to make the best video quality possible as far as production value goes.

The Importance of Content Quality

But what really matters is the quality of the content itself. The words that are expressed and the words that are in the article are really of utmost importance. When you read one of our reviews, I want you to know that we use the device. We trust what we say, and it's really important to me.

A Challenge to Our Audience

If you don't get your reviews from TechnoBuffalo, that's fine. But I challenge you to any other site that you read or any other videos you watch to make sure they disclose how long they're using devices. There's a huge rush to get posts up first to get video reviews up first for SEO, and I understand that it translates to dollars for companies. But it's not fair to you, our audience. You're making purchasing decisions based on things you read that might not be accurate.

The Reality of Real-World Usage

It doesn't matter how long I can play a video consecutively. It matters how the device handles in everyday usage. How does it handle emails? How does it handle games? And other similar activities. That's really what I want TechnoBuffalo to be about: providing you with honest and accurate information so you can make informed decisions.

A Final Message

So, I'll make that pledge to you again. Every video we put up that has to do with a product or review will always let you know how many days we used it. If we do a versus video, the versus video should not come out before the review is done. We don't want to give you misinformation or mislead you in any way. Thank you for watching, and I'll be back with devices next time in the next video.
