**My Favorite Tech: iPad Mini**
Hey guys, this is Austin and today I'm here with tech I like. You know, I do a lot of reviews and stuff, so I've used a lot of tablets, including the iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPad 4. All of them were pretty good, but I used the iPad 3 for a while. However, none of them really clicked with me because they were all a little bit too big and bulky.
I had the same problem with the Nexus 10 and the Microsoft Surface - the big 10-in tablets just didn't work for me. As far as specs go, it's not like the iPad Mini is all that impressive - it's basically just an iPad 2 in a smaller shell with a slightly smaller screen. However, when you put it all together, the weight is a lot better. I mean, I can carry this around and hold it all day long without getting tired.
The size of the iPad Mini is one of its best features - I'm holding it in one hand right now. Try to hold the Microsoft Surface upright in one hand and see how long that lasts! When I first got my iPad Mini, I didn't really like it because the lack of a retina display was very noticeable. If you've ever used an iPad 3 or 4, this screen will look bad - I'm just going to say that right up front.
At first, using my iPad Mini was like that, but as I started using it more and tried to give it a fair shake, I actually kind of started looking past the lack of retina display. It is still a solid panel with good color, contrast, and viewing angles - all the normal stuff. The resolution just isn't there, so a lot of text and things don't look anywhere near as crisp and detailed as on my iPad 3 or 4.
What it really comes down to for me is how much the iPad Mini gets right, and one thing it does get right is battery life. I usually get between 10 and 12 hours on a charge, which is easy enough to get me through a few days of use. Because it's so small and portable, I like to take it with me a lot of places - for example, anytime I'm flying or going anywhere, it's always in my bag.
If I want to watch a movie or read a book or whatever, it's always there, and even something as simple as running out and grabbing some lunch - a lot of times I'll take the iPad Mini because hey, why not? At first, I got a standard 16 GB iPad Mini, but after I started using it and realizing how much I liked it, I sold that one to get this one, which is a 32 GB Black version with Verizon LTE.
Having 32 GB of storage is nice on a tablet for me - for example, I just finished watching the entire season of Walking Dead or at least catching up on it on my iPad Mini. And on top of that, having LTE has been an absolute lifesaver for me. When I was at CES, I was using it to upload all my videos, and just the other day my internet just totally went out and I had work to do - so basically, turn on LTE, start doing everything from the iPad Mini no sweat.
