Spectre and Meltdown Sueing (Now Ft. Apple), Lower RAM prices and S9: This week in the tech news

Hello and Welcome to What's Almost Definitely Going to Be the Shortest Ever Episode of This Week in the Tech News!

There are two reasons why this episode is going to be so short. The first one is that I have a touch of diphtheria, and the second one is that we're reaching that weird space after CES where it's about two weeks long, with nothing tech-related happening.

So, there isn't much going on other than what happened at CES last week. There's been so much coverage that if I have to see another CES video, I'm going to probably die! But, in all seriousness, the main thing that's happened is that there's been an increase in suing happening related to Specter and Meltdown vulnerabilities. Apple has been dragged into it, and they're being sued big time now.

One of the reasons they're being sued is because they brought out an update for their iPhones recently, which is supposed to fix the vulnerability. However, the thing is that the iPhone 6 has been really badly hit by performance-wise, so users are seeing up to a 50% performance decrease in the iPhone 6. If you own an iPhone 6, you're in a bit of a weird position because you have two choices: better performance or just normal performance.

On the other hand, if you choose better performance, you'll have to live with not being able to steal all the stuff off your phone, which is a bit of a difficult choice. I know I'd probably go with the better performance thing, but that's just me!

In other news, RAM prices might be stabilizing soon because the kind of supply chain is normalizing apparently. This is quite a vague statement; we don't really know what it means if it's going to become $10 cheaper per gig or whatever. But it might be looking better soon.

Now, we have to worry about whether there will be no graphics cards and all of them costing $10 million dollars! And then finally, Samsung has kind of leaked well, I mean other things they've leaked, but there have been leaks around their Galaxy S nine which looks like quite a cool phone. It seems like it might be coming out around March of this year, and yes, it's quite exciting because it's got a new processor in it and it's powerful.

Anyway, thank you very much for watching! There was a bit of a weird pause, sorry about that – it is a strangely disjointed episode of This Week in the Tech News. If you enjoyed the video, thank you very much for watching! Thank you also for the support with all of your CS remote coverage!

Until next time, bye-bye!
