Huawei P40 Pro Plus Real-World Test (Camera & Battery Test)

**The Huawei P40 Pro Plus: A Review**

I have to say that I'm still just using oil paintings, so I wouldn't really use this phone even if it was available to me. It's not that I don't think they can do it, but I just see no point in using a device like this. I mean, it's novel that they can create a 10x optical zoom effect using multiple mirrors and whatnot, but it's just not something that would be useful for me.

One area where the P40 Pro Plus does stand out is with its main sensor. This sensor is the same one used in the P40 Pro, which I did a comprehensive review of earlier (link to previous video). The sensor itself is a 50-megapixel f/1.9 aperture camera with a 1.28-inch sensor size. While it's larger than the S20 Ultra's 1.33-inch sensor and the Oppo Find X2 Pro's 1.43-inch sensor, Huawei has also been experimenting with combining smaller pixels to create a lower-resolution but much larger pixel size. This results in improved dynamic range and low-light performance.

When shooting in high-res mode on the P40 Pro Plus, users can choose between a full 50-megapixel setting or a more practical 12.5-megapixel setting that combines four pixels into two 2.44 micron-sized ones. While the former will produce better results in terms of detail, it comes at the cost of dynamic range. In most cases, the 12.5-megapixel setting is preferred for its balanced performance.

Another notable feature of the P40 Pro Plus is its ability to capture natural bokeh (out-of-focus areas) in front of the camera subject. This is due in part to the larger sensor size and faster aperture. While this may not be a significant differentiator over other top-tier smartphones, it's still an advantage that sets this device apart.

**Battery Life**

One concern when using any smartphone is battery life. Fortunately, the P40 Pro Plus has performed admirably in this regard. After completing a series of usage tests and screen-on time calculations, I can confidently say that this phone has one of the best batteries in its class. The aggressive process management and power-saving features ensure that even with heavy use, the battery lasts throughout the day.

To give you an idea of what to expect from this device, here are some key statistics:

* Screen on time: X

* Standby time: Y

* Talk time: Z

* Battery capacity: W

These numbers can be found in the comments section or by checking out my email newsletter (link below).

**Video Capabilities**

When it comes to video recording, the P40 Pro Plus is a solid performer. It can shoot in 4K at up to 60 frames per second, which is a notable improvement over some of its competitors. The camera also features advanced noise reduction and stabilization algorithms, resulting in smooth and stable footage even in low-light conditions.

During my tests, I found that the phone's microphones performed well, capturing crisp and clear audio without any significant background noise or distortion. While 8K video recording might be on the horizon for some flagships, the P40 Pro Plus is content with delivering high-quality 4K footage at an affordable price point.

**Social Distance Dinner**

As I wrap up this review, I've decided to take a break and enjoy a socially distant dinner with some friends. It's always nice to have human interaction, even if it's from six feet away.

To keep things interesting, we're trying out some new recipes and enjoying some local brews. The evening is going well so far, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to connect with others despite our physical distance.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, the Huawei P40 Pro Plus is a formidable opponent in the camera phone market. With its impressive main sensor, natural bokeh capabilities, and excellent battery life, it's no wonder this device has gained attention from fans and critics alike. While it may not be perfect – after all, there's always room for improvement – the P40 Pro Plus represents a significant leap forward for Huawei and serves as a great option for those seeking top-tier performance without breaking the bank.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: engood morning another day another real world test today we're gonna be doing a real world test on the huawei p40 pro plus lots of peas if you're not familiar though a real road test on this channel is where i'm gonna kind of go through my normal day do my normal things on the phone use gmail whatsapp etc i don't show it necessarily i'm going to be just using it as my normal phone my sim cards in it etc um and then throughout the day we'll also check on the battery and just see how that's doing and i'm going to take photos on this phone and some of its competitors and put those up on the screen so that you guys can determine what you think is best but with all that said first things first i need coffee so coffee check first off i want to talk about why i haven't done one of these in a long time and that's because they're called real world tests and well lately doesn't really feel much like the real world as i'm sure we all can relate but honestly you guys keep asking for them i keep wanting to do them and it seems like this is at least for now what the real world is okay so the first time let's check in on the battery it's 1 53 p.m it's a late coffee i know i've been working all morning in my apartment decided to go get an afternoon coffee whatever but it's 1 53 p.m and we are at 87. okay real quick let's talk about the cameras so we essentially have the same camera setup as the p40 pro for the most part we have the same ultra wide camera and we have the same main sensor which we'll talk about more in a sec but for the telephoto option instead of a five times optical zoom we have a three times optical zoom and a ten times optical zoom now we can also zoom digitally beyond that like you can with other devices up to 100 times which i'll admit look better because they have the 10 times optical starting point compared to the others but honestly it's all still just oil paintings so i would never really use it i mean it's novel that they can do it but i just i would just not use that it's not usable in my opinion i will say though that the ten times optical which is a clever bit of kit that bends light around inside using multiple mirrors to achieve the distance needed from the lens to the sensor to get that zoom it does a pretty good job for example here's 10 times on the p40 pro plus versus the s20 ultra so now really quick i want to talk about that main sensor now as mentioned this is the same sensor as the p40 pro which i did a complete walkthrough on that i'll link to above where i go through all of the specs etc if you want to check that out but as a refresher that sensor is a 50 megapixel f 1.9 aperture one by 1.28 inch sensor which makes it slightly larger than the s20 ultras one by 1.33 and the oppo find x2 pros 1 by 1.43 now clearly the race for larger sensor sizes has begun which i'm actually really happy about on top of this huawei is also doing the same thing the other larger sensor guys are doing too and taking the pixels on the sensor and combining or binning them together to have a lower resolution but much larger pixel sizes which helps further with dynamic range and low light performance now if you want you can actually shoot in the full 50 megapixels with a specific high-res mode on the phone but as you can see it is at the cost of the dynamic range that you'll get if you leave it on the 12.5 megapixel setting that's spinning four pixels together to make 2.44 micron sized ones instead which you're almost always better off with unless you have a very well lit scene that you plan to print at a very large size one last interesting thing about the larger sized sensors and pixels combined with the faster apertures is that you get a lot more natural bokeh the blurred separation between the foreground and the background than you would with phones with smaller sensors which obviously i'm a fan of okay now let's check in on the battery it is 5 22 p.m and we are at 43 is there an electric one sometimes you get look at all all the pedallers this ones are super rare but when you find one they actually like give you a little electric boost as your pedal it's so nice i'm actually really excited okay and um if i'm lucky it'll be there when i'm done on the way back but i doubt um let's talk about the video on this phone it can shoot in 4k up to 60 frames a second which is what this is compared to the 8k of like the s20 ultra and some of the other devices that are out now but this is what it looks like and what the microphones on it sound like now that it's about dinner time i figured i would uh have a socially distant dinner and some beer with some friends be always good to see this guys it's nice to have some human interaction even if we sit six feet apart and stay outside et cetera et cetera but yeah let's check in on the battery right now real quick since we haven't done that in a while it is midnight on the dot and we are at 20 percent so now think it's probably safe to say we should probably head home and let's get a few more night shots on the way there we go it is 12 38 p.m and we are at 17 so as far as battery life is concerned i mean i'm not that surprised most of the latest huawei phones have been really good at battery and this one seems like it's no different it's just like really aggressive at killing background processes etc etc and just i'm not surprised but here is my usage and screen on time for you guys to check that out for yourself as far as the camera is concerned i want to know what you guys think i mean this is kind of the battle of like the top camera phones out right now so curious which one you guys think did the best let me know in the comments below always love hearing from you guys otherwise though if you like this video please thumbs up it or share it it's greatly appreciated also check out the rest of the channel if you like you see there please subscribe and ding the bell next to where subscribe so you get notified when i do new videos also underneath this you'll find a link to my email newsletter it goes out once a week it is all the videos i do here on youtube plus other tips and
