I paid somebody on Craigslist $100 to build my PC for me...

**The Ultimate Guide to Fixing a Broken Computer: A Cautionary Tale from Craigslist**

As I sat at my desk, staring at the computer that had been handed down to me from a stranger on Craigslist, I couldn't help but feel a sense of dread. The system had been running for ages, and the CPU temperature had stabilized at about 66 degrees Celsius. But as I delved deeper into the computer's innards, I realized that something was amiss. The motherboard was flexing, the 24-pin power cable wasn't fully seated, and the thermal paste application looked...less than ideal.

I began by addressing the motherboard situation, which was a bit of a nightmare to fix. It turned out that the top left corner of the motherboard had been left unfixed, causing it to flex excessively. I took a screwdriver and firmly screwed everything down, making sure that there was no more movement in the area. "You can't just leave this part loose," I thought to myself. "It's like playing with fire." Next, I tackled the 24-pin power cable, which wasn't fully seated in its connector. It was a bit of a tricky situation, as I didn't want to break anything while trying to fix it. But with a little patience and some gentle prodding, I managed to get it clipped into place.

As I continued my journey into the depths of the computer's bowels, I came across the air cooler. It was time to take it apart and examine the thermal paste application. To my surprise, it wasn't too bad – it was perfectly serviceable, if a bit on the thin side. But as I looked closer, I realized that this was just the beginning of a much larger problem. The motherboard flexing had caused some issues with the cooler's fan design, and it was up to me to fix it.

I decided to take the air cooler apart and reorient its fans correctly. It wasn't easy, but eventually, I managed to get everything aligned properly. And that's when things started to heat up (pun intended). The CPU temperature began to drop dramatically, from 66 degrees Celsius to around 47 degrees Celsius. But that was just the beginning. As I continued to tinker with the computer, I realized that the fans were actually running at different speeds, causing a thermal difference of almost 20 degrees Celsius.

This led me to realize that I had inadvertently created a thermal deathmatch between the two fans, and it was only a matter of time before they met their demise. But in all seriousness, this is a crucial lesson to learn when working with computers. You can't just plop the fans together and expect them to run smoothly.

**Cable Management: The Bane of My Existence**

As I delved deeper into the computer's innards, I realized that cable management was going to be a major issue. With all the cables and wires strewn about, it was like trying to navigate a mess of spaghetti. But I persevered, determined to create a system that looked sleek and organized.

I spent hours routing cables up from the bottom, using every trick in the book to keep them tidy and neat. It wasn't easy, but eventually, I managed to tame the beast of cable management. And as I stepped back to admire my handiwork, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. The computer looked sleek and organized, like something out of a science fiction movie.

**The Conclusion: A Cautionary Tale from Craigslist**

As I sat at my desk, staring at the now-repaired computer, I couldn't help but think about the journey that had brought me here. It was a wild ride, full of twists and turns, but ultimately, it was worth it. The system is now running smoothly, with temperatures well below 60 degrees Celsius.

But as I looked back on my experience, I realized that this could have been avoided if only I had taken the time to inspect the computer more carefully before accepting it from the stranger on Craigslist. It's a lesson that I'll never forget – when shopping for used computers online, you need to be careful. Be social distanced, be patient, and always, always inspect the system before handing over your hard-earned cash.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: entoday's video is one of those videos where from the moment i started trying to get the pc out of the box i knew i had made a big mistake and it was one of those mistakes that just kept kind of evolving over the process of making the video like i i'm still pretty grossed out by all of it but anyway this this whole process started when i was browsing craigslist for an up-and-coming challenge with another tech youtuber and i saw a listing where someone let's call him daniel i'm trying to protect his identity here it's not actually what his name was called but daniel said that he'll build your pc for you for a hundred canadian dollars and that immediately made me think i wonder what kind of services you get on craigslist i emailed daniel and he was reasonably friendly and he replied quickly there was nothing in the interactions over email that made me think that something terrible was gonna happen so i dropped all of the components off for daniel to build the pc with and he finished like two hours later i went and picked it up and and then this happened i'm actually really excited to see what this system looks like it's always cool to see someone else build a pc and kind of how it turns out as you can see here i chose the focus g fractal design case just throw a little bit of a curveball in there this case does not have a psu basement which makes cable management and stuff like that a little bit more difficult it's not a huge challenge just a little bit more difficult so i'm really excited let's get this out of here and see what it looks like oh um uh it won't come it will budge so the case is just kind of wedged into the box here i think daniel may have put the foam blocks on the incorrect side of the case and then just kind of forced it into the box because um i'm really struggling to get it out like it's really stuck in here i may have to like rip the box open this feels so unbelievably savage but it's genuinely not my fault okay there we go there we go so i've managed to savage it out of the box but i do have a question now um why is there so much hair on it look at that i don't know how well it shows up on camera but daniel is clearly a very hairy man there is just hair everywhere and it's so disgusting i've got gloves on i'm gonna lysol it down hopefully the actual um the actual case isn't as covered in hair but what the hell it's so disgusting okay i'm not trying to be an alarmist here or anything but that looks suspiciously like pubes i'm just gonna i i just don't want to touch it it's okay so and it's the oh there's just this kind of hair all over it so i'm just so i'm going to turn it around and there there we go let me just get the i'm actually going to put these outside because that's disgusting okay uh now we can get to the pc so after that fairly shocking unboxing i'm actually legitimately scared to open it um i don't know maybe maybe the inside's better i'm hoping that daniel's pet bear didn't get didn't get into the into the pc here so let's just do that and then have a look at the handiwork in here so there's a small remnant over there of of daniel's pet bear um i'll clean that off just now but let's have a look at the inside of this system which looks um interesting my first question is i'm not entirely sure what's what's happening here the the ssd is kind of just it's been screwed down at one point and it's just kind of dangling on the inside of the case i mean there's like two drive bays just down here and i actually think i mean they have mounting holes for the ssd so i'm not entirely sure i'm not entirely sure why the ssd ended up in there there's just like a sata cable that it's like plugged into the motherboard but it's just dangling up here i mean it's not supposed to be for the ssd because the ssd is plugged in so i'm not i'm not entirely sure why we've got a dangler here and then back here we have a whole hornet's nest of stuff going on here i mean that's all the front i o and like the front fans and stuff that's just dangling here and it's it's not been plugged in particularly well this is the kind of thing that is fairly difficult to do in a case like this considering the fact that it has nowhere for you to really hide the cables so i'm going to be interested to see if i can do a much better job i am actually going to take the system apart clean it very well and then i'm gonna reassemble it hopefully hopefully a bit more neatly than this because as i'm filming this i'm looking at that ssd hanging there i just can't figure that out and then finally i had a look at the cpu cooler and then just let me know if you noticed something a little bit off about it so we've got this fan blowing in that direction and then on this side we've got the fan blowing air through the cooler so we're gonna have a little bit of a fan death match going on here and what's funny about it is that it actually like shows which way the airflow goes in the fan so they're like both just blowing at each other which is pretty funny okay so now that there's more lysol than air in this room i'm feeling a little bit more comfortable i'm still really grossed out oh and also uh just before i start it up when i went to the back of the system to plug the mouse and the keyboard in it's clear that the motherboard isn't properly screwed down like it's there's a lot of play in the back there uh so once i fire it up and do some thermal tests and stuff we'll take the system apart and more closely see what's going on in there but with that let's let's fire this bad boy up okay so he just installed windows straight up and that's actually an advantage that this system has over like a pre-built is that it doesn't have a bunch of like ridiculous ridiculous bloatware on it you know it's time to see the thermal results of that cpu fan deathmatch before tearing the whole system down fixing all of the problems and seeing how much of a thermal difference that makes okay so it's been running for ages and the cpu temperature has stabilized at about 66 degrees celsius so now let's venture a little bit deeper into the shower drain system now i mentioned earlier that the motherboard is flexing uh he forgot to screw in this top left corner of the motherboard which is really bad especially with an air cooler as you can see it introduces quite a lot of flex to the motherboard so just screw everything down properly another thing is the 24 pin power cable isn't fully seated this is something that's a bit tricky because it does feel like you're gonna break something sometimes but you know just push it down until it clips into place okay so the whole motherboard situation should be really easy to fix you just take a screw and then you there we go and then just like that the motherboard seated properly so there's less flex in it like that's something that you really shouldn't forget especially at the top here next i'm going to take off this air cooler i want to see what the thermal paste application looks like the thermal paste application is perfectly serviceable i guess it's it's okay next i'm gonna save the ssd from its eternal dangle i really hope that it's not afraid of heights as you can see it just kind of lines up and then you screw it in through the base then you can have your ssd tucked away down here okay so i've actually got the ssd mounted in here i'm going to lift this system up so that i can take the back panel off and more easily deal with the cable management and here's what it looks like after about 15 to 20 minutes of cable management on my part i think it looks a bit better although it's still not perfect you can see that there's still some cable mess down here although considering the design of the case there's there's not much you can do about that kind of you know bit of cable mess down there um i think the the front i o cables are the most challenging to deal with one thing to bear in mind is you should always try and route these cables up from the bottom as opposed to across from the side unless you really have no other choice so for example this audio connector over here has a little cutout on the back there that you can route it through now once you have the power supply in the actual head of the connector doesn't fit through there but all you do is you unscrew the power supply move it out the way plug the connector in and then move it back so that's the kind of thing that it's a little bit more effort but it looks it just looks better because you don't have this long cable running along here um when it comes to the actual fans on the cooler i did orient them correctly eventually and i hit the cables a bit better oh i almost forgot just before we get to the conclusion i redid the thermal tests after turning the fan around on the cooler and it made a 19 degree celsius difference which is crazy apparently it's a really bad idea pitting your fans against each other in a battle to the death in conclusion i think this serves as a really good example why you need to be careful on craigslist i genuinely was not expecting to get a system that was packaged essentially in the dude's pubic hair like it's so disgusting that case was brand new in box i had bought it earlier that day gave it to him and he gave it back to me having turned it into what i can only describe as a biohazard it's it's so disgusting so if you are shopping on craigslist or using services on craigslist especially at the moment you need to be really careful socially distance and all that try and not just just be careful um but yeah so with that thank you very much for watching if you like this video like and subscribe to the channel for more
