**Using Midi Mixer with OBS: A Comprehensive Guide**

Midi mixer is an incredibly powerful software that can take your streaming setup to the next level. With its ability to control multiple sources and plugins, it's no wonder that streamers are flocking to this tool. But what exactly can you do with midi mixer? In this article, we'll dive into the world of midi mixer and explore all the amazing things you can do with it.

**Assigning Macros and Key Combinations**

One of the most useful features of midi mixer is its ability to assign macros and key combinations. This means that you can use these shortcuts to quickly switch between different scenes, sources, or plugins. For example, you can create a macro that assigns the "stop" button to switching between different scenes. This feature is especially useful for streamers who want to keep their workflow streamlined and efficient.

**Using OBS with Midi Mixer**

If you're already using OBS (Open Broadcasting Software) for your streaming setup, midi mixer integrates seamlessly with it. By installing the OBS websocket plugin, you can use midi mixer to control multiple sources and plugins directly within OBS. This means that you can quickly switch between different scenes, turn sources on and off, and even adjust volume levels all from a single interface.

**Configuring Obs Switcher**

When using OBS with midi mixer, one of the most useful features is the obs switcher. This feature allows you to switch between different scenes, which can be especially useful for streamers who want to quickly change between different overlays or graphics. By assigning a button or macro to the obs switcher, you can quickly switch between these different scenes and get back to your stream.

**Using Clean Camera**

Another great feature of midi mixer is its ability to control clean camera angles. By mapping a button or macro to switching between clean camera angles, you can quickly change up your stream's aesthetic and keep your viewers engaged. This feature is especially useful for streamers who want to add some visual interest to their streams.

**Using MIDI Mixer with OBS Plugin**

The OBS plugin allows midi mixer to control volume levels inside of OBS, which means that you can adjust the volume of individual sources or plugins directly within midi mixer. By assigning a button or macro to this feature, you can quickly adjust your stream's audio levels and get back to your content.

**Automated Plugin Install**

One of the most frustrating things about using midi mixer is installing plugins. However, with midi mixer, installation is quick and easy. Simply download the plugin, extract it to the app data folder, and restart midi mixer. It's that simple!

**Tips and Tricks for Using Midi Mixer**

So what are some tips and tricks for using midi mixer? First of all, make sure you have a cheat sheet handy – it can be easy to forget which buttons do what! But also, don't be afraid to experiment with different plugins and configurations. With midi mixer, the possibilities are endless, so feel free to get creative!

**Conclusion**

Midi mixer is an incredible piece of software that takes your streaming setup to the next level. "WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: endo you need expensive accessories like the go xlr and the stream deck for maximum stream production quality no you don't let me show you why go xlr stream deck sounds expensive let me show you how this 80 device can be the ultimate stream accessory my name is chris this is coalition gaming and today i'll be your stream technician a while back i did a video on what i call the go xlr alternative featuring this device the korg nano control 2. this device is a midi controller with 8 faders and 8 knobs back then i advised the usage of a software called nk2 tray which allowed the usage of controlling individual windows volume sources which is good for streamers but also just good for general usage of the computer i mean have you ever launched a game with the loading screen that was just so incredibly loud and you couldn't really do anything quickly well with this device you can just fix that real quick with just a fader by reaching down and turning it down as soon as the loud sound hits your ears since then a more powerful software to use with the nano control 2 has come out and this new software has been my recommendation to use for people who were having issues with nk2 tray or just generally is what i advise using with something like this nowadays this software lets you use any midi controller not just the nano control too so if you've dabbled in music production and you happen to have a midi controller of any kind you can use the midi mixer software with this all those faders and all those knobs and all those buttons can all be used what makes this even better is that this midi mixer software also has an obs plug-in that lets you use any of those buttons to change scenes run macros or anything like that in obs as well as use those faders and knobs to control individual volume sources inside of obs not just your windows volume sources so you can control volume out to your stream separately from what you're hearing to your ears just like sub mixes this is really powerful software and the best part about it is that it's free all you need is a 75 or 80 dollar midi controller like the corgonado control 2 or just any other midi controller there are some that are cheaper and there's plenty that are more expensive and all of them will work with midi mixer with all that said let me show you how this works live fellow cg crew member dog coin snid has one of these in his setup and that's where we're at right now so let me show you how he has it working in his setup so here we are at the desktop and i'm going to show you guys a little bit on midi mixer so basically the korg nano control 2 connects with a usb cable to the pc that's it and then you download and install midi mixer and it'll look a little something like this won't it won't look exactly like this on first setup but this is the software right here your nano control 2 should appear on the top here where it says input and then once you have input you see all the faders listed and all the knobs listed which is cool the previous software the korg of the nk2 tray software did not let you use the knobs you only have access to the eight faders and that's it midi mixer is cool because you can use the eight faders independently of all the knobs so you can have different sources on the faders and different sources on the knobs which you know now you have technically 16 ways to control volume sources as you can see here faders one through eight and knobs one through eight so right now we have focus on fader one which is super nice because what focus is is whatever you're clicked into at that moment if you're in a loud game for example you're focused into that game all you have to do to turn that game volume down is hit the hit the slider you bring it down and whatever you're focused in on that fader if you've assigned it to that fader will turn the volume down of that which is super nice that aside you can individually assign anything in the windows volume mixer there so you can see here there's different windows operating system stuff um nvidia what is that nvidia share razer synapse software obs firefox speakers different input and output devices can all be controlled there including microphone your own microphone volume can be controlled on this fit one of these faders or knobs as well so very useful as you can see here we've populated some of them some of them fader one is focus so let's say i click over to discord now i can change focus and then you see it on screen there's a cool thing about this is you don't need to memorize what you're adjusting it pops up on screen on the top left and it tells you what you're adjusting so right now that's focus but if i were focused on something else like this software and i move fader 2 that one is directly assigned to discord as you can see now that's adjusting discord and if i'm playing music let's say firefox right here and uh let's see unmute that a little on the loud side right well fader four one three is firefox right and now i'm just controlling the volume of firefox here and the way that it is here is whatever i'm controlling here it also reflects if you have like using this as desktop audio in your stream so now if i'm turning it down here it's quiet for me as well as it's quieter for the stream so that could be useful now you can see here that there are other stuff like you see obs studio desktop audio having obs assigned to one of these knobs is really cool because if you get a really loud alert or some sort of ear rape alert that i even have some of them a lot of people have it you can just hit it on the fader bring it down so you don't really kill your ears too bad but uh it's useful to have obs entirely volume controlled on a fader or knob but as you can see here you see desktop audio and desktop audio 2 are also assigned this is being used with the obs studio plug-in for midi mixer so knob 1 and knob 2 are being used to control individual sources inside of obs separately from windows like i've talked about so the knobs here are controlling desktop audio and desktop audio 2 inside of obs separately from what i'm hearing adjusting those knobs you can see the faders inside of obs moving up and down so if you have audio sources going to obs there and you're controlling them with a knob here you're controlling only what your stream is hearing not necessarily what you're hearing so this is how you can sort of do sub mixes with the midi mixer software and a device like this so now in midi mixer if we go to this button here it says buttons you can see now we have other stuff we have track previous track next cycle marker what those are are the buttons on the device itself this device has play button a stop button record button fast forward track all that stuff those don't have to do what they say you can make them do whatever you want here in midi mixer especially with the obs plugin but you can do other stuff like non-obs plugin related just what they can do default let's say the stop button here look at all these options here media play media stop you know the normal stuff you can also run specific files or vbs scripts or something you can make stuff with like noobs commander and then execute those with the buttons here i'll leave a link to nutty's video on that then you can even do key combinations macros you can use these as macro keys so very useful there but if again if you have the obs plugin installed you see all these other buttons here uh i have obs switched to in-game scene so let me show you one of these other buttons here let's say the stop button you can see all these obs things appear here and it allows you to switch to different scenes so kind of like what a stream that can help you do or hotkeys and obs you can do with the buttons here let me show you here so i'm going to press one of them and see it's the in-game scene so that's this one so now i've used the korg to change scenes i'm going to go back to the talking scene you could even do some more funner stuff like uh let's say i'm gonna go to clean camera right there probably the angle i should have been this whole time but you know whatever got a brb scene mapped to it there we are so now be right back right and uh you know it doesn't end there you can always do more fun stuff with it we'll go to clean cam again um no that's the in-game scene so this so i might forget what buttons i have and that's why i have a little cheat sheet that i made and put right here and so we're gonna go to clean cam that was this one and then we have like a punch in which is i put this button now oh there we are what's up and that's a demonstration of what midi mixer can do especially with the obs plug-in volume control inside of obs and outside of obs using the windows volume sources and all sorts of stuff all assignable to any of the faders or knobs you can use the buttons for changing scenes turning sources off and on and doing fun stuff like that it's really awesome but one of the things that could use some work is a more automated plug-in install for the obs plugin so really quick i'm going to show you how to install the plug-in it's really just drag and drop a couple of files so all i did was google midi mixer obs plugin and you can see it's the first result here at the top and then you see a bunch of stuff like this we're going to scroll down and it says download and install the obs websocket for obs don't forget to do that because this operates via that it's a popular plugin for using all sorts of stuff with obs so you might even have it already but if you don't get the obs websocket install it first and then we download the plugin here so i'm just gonna download it and it's gonna save and i'll show you the files here in a second and then the instructions are literally right here extract the plugin obs main folder to app data midi mixer app plugins that's a folder that you have to extract that to so let's open that folder first i'm just going to highlight that then i'm going to press windows r on the keyboard and that brings up the run command and as you can see here i'm going to pull it up in the middle of the screen all i'm going to do is i'm going to take that appdata thing that i copied paste it into the run command here let me actually copy that again paste it right there and press ok and a folder opens right so if you take those files that you extracted or in the uh that folder which you can see now is right there and then we go back to that plugins folder all we do is we take that and then we drag and drop it and it will appear here in the app data folder from the downloaded folder so you download the zip open it and then you open that app data folder and all you do is move the file from the zip into the app data folder then restart midi mixer and you have the obs plugin installed and there you go so let's get back up to the main camera now i think it goes without saying that midi mixer is an awesome piece of software and the fact that you can use it with any midi controller really opens up the possibilities of what you can do with it if you want more buttons there's a midi controller for that if you want more faders there's a midi controller for that if you want more knobs there's a midi controller for that and if you wanted a cheaper one there's also an option for that too i'll leave links down in the description below to the midi mixer software and several different midi controller options for you guys to check
