Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs iPhone 14 Pro Max - Which is the Flagship KING

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max are two of the most highly anticipated smartphones of the year, and for good reason. The S23 Ultra boasts an impressive array of features that make it a compelling choice for anyone in the market for a new phone.

One of the key differences between the two devices is their port options. The S23 Ultra comes with more universal ports, including USB Type-C, which makes it easier to charge and transfer data between devices. On the other hand, the iPhone 14 Pro Max still relies on the outdated Lightning port, which can be frustrating for Apple users who also own Macs or iPads that use USB Type-C.

It looks like Apple is going to either have to switch to more universal ports or go port-less entirely. Currently, though, the S23 Ultra has the advantage when it comes to port options, making it a better choice for anyone who needs to be able to charge and transfer data between devices without having to worry about compatibility issues.

Another area where the S23 Ultra has an advantage is in terms of charging speed. The phone can support faster 45 watt charging, which means that it can top up its battery much quicker than the iPhone 14 Pro Max's slower 20 watt charging speed. This could be a major factor for anyone who needs to keep their phone topped up throughout the day.

Wireless charging is also a key feature of both phones, with the S23 Ultra supporting up to 15 watts of Qi wireless charging and the iPhone 14 Pro Max supporting MagSafe wireless charging. While the iPhone's MagSafe system is convenient, it can be proprietary and may not be as widely supported as other wireless charging systems.

In terms of battery size and performance, both phones have their advantages and disadvantages. The S23 Ultra has a larger physical battery than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but this doesn't necessarily mean that it will last longer in real-world use. In fact, early tests have shown that the S23 Ultra is actually keeping up with the iPhone 14 Pro Max in terms of battery life, and may even be slightly better.

The main difference here comes down to the hardware and software used in each device. The S23 Ultra is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which provides efficient performance and good battery life. The iPhone 14 Pro Max, on the other hand, uses Apple's own A16 Bionic chip, which may provide better performance but also has its own set of limitations.

Overall, when it comes to charging speed, wireless charging, and battery size, the S23 Ultra is looking like a strong contender in this head-to-head comparison. However, as with any smartphone decision, there are many other factors to consider, including storage options and pricing.

One thing worth noting is that chargers do not come included with either phone, so you will need to purchase them separately if you don't already have them. The S23 Ultra starts at a higher base model than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but both phones offer upgrade options for larger storage capacities.

In terms of pricing, the two phones are currently priced similarly in the US, but in other regions, including the UK, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is more expensive than the equivalent storage models of the S23 Ultra. However, if you purchase the higher-capacity version of the S23 Ultra for $1,299, it's actually cheaper than buying two of the lower-capacity models of the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

If you're looking to save some money on your next smartphone purchase, then the S23 Ultra may be worth considering. In fact, using a particular affiliate link that can be found in the description below will give you up to $150 off when purchasing a new S23 Ultra and also earn you Samsung credit.

Ultimately, whether or not the S23 Ultra is the right choice for you depends on your individual needs and preferences. If you're an Apple fan who's used to using iPhones, then it may be worth sticking with what you know and love. However, if you're open to exploring alternative options, the S23 Ultra is definitely worth considering.

I've done a detailed camera comparison between these two phones; you can find that video link below. I also have another related video link below that showcases some of the other features and specs of each phone.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- Now that the SamsungGalaxy S23 Ultra is here, how does the best from Samsungcompare to the best from Applein the iPhone 14 Pro Max?What's up, guys?Saf here on SuperSaf TV,and we're going to be breakingdown all of the key differencesbetween these two, SuperSafStyle.Right, let's start offwith the build and design. So firstly, both of theseare quite big phones. They weigh almost the same. The S23 Ultra is slightly biggerin terms of the dimensions. Now, I'm somebody who likes bigger phones, but if you're used to a smaller phoneyou might want to testthese out in-hand first. Now, for the design, I do like both. The designs are quite familiar. The S23 Ultra looks alot like the S22 Ultraand the iPhone 14 Pro Maxlooks a lot like the iPhone 13 Pro Max,at least from the back. Not necessarily a bad thing, but we do have some fresh colors. The iPhone 14 Pro Max isavailable in four colors. There's a silver, a gold, a space black,as well as this deep purple, which I think is one of my favorites. The S23 Ultra also comesofficially in four colors,a phantom black, a cream, agreen, as well as a lavender. However, there are fouradditional, exclusive colorsavailable from samsung.com.There's a graphite, sky blue,a light, as well as a red.Now if you are thinkingof getting the S23 Ultra, you can get up to $150of instant Samsung creditusing my exclusive affiliate linkdown in the description below.Shameless plug there. Now for the builds, the iPhone 14 Pro Max hasa stainless steel frame. The S23 Ultra has an aluminum frame. The S23 Ultra is one of thefirst devices in the worldwith Gorilla Glass Victus2 in the front and back, and this helps improve drop performanceon rough surfaces like concrete. It's also made with 22% recycled glass. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has Ceramic Shield. Now in my experience, bothof these are quite durable.I'm not somebody who does drop tests, but I'm sure others will be,so if you're interested inhow durable these exactly are, you're going to have to wait for those. What I do like about both of theseis that we've got mattefinishes across the boardfor all of the different colors, and I think that looks somuch better than glossy, although the frames are glossyand can get some fingerprints. Now the iPhone 14 Pro Maxhas a flat front and back. The S23 Ultra has aslight curve on the edges. However, this is notas much as what we hadon the S22 Ultra, and personally speaking,I do prefer this compared to last year. The iPhone 14 Pro Maxhas the rounded corners, whereas we've got more squared-offcorners on the S23 Ultra. In terms of comfortability,I'd say both of them arepretty much the same. Now, both devices do have an IP68water and dust-resistant rating, however, there is more toit than just that number. You can actually submergethe iPhone 14 Pro Maxfour times deeper into watercompared to the S23 Ultra,so that's around sixmeters compared to 1.5.I'm not sure how usefulthat's going to be to you,if you're planning totake a device for a swim, but something definitely to mention. Now let's turn these devices aroundand take a look at the displays. So firstly, let's lookat the similarities. Both are using OLED technologywhich means colors really do pop,and both have an adaptive refresh ratewhich goes all the way up to 120 hertz, making things very smooth. And also, all the waydown to just one hertz, making things very efficientand also allowing always-on displays. So both devices do havegreat always-on displays. They're different in theway they're implemented.Apple initially justhad a dimmed wallpaper, which I personally found quite distractingand I did mention this in my review. They have since released a software updatewhich lets you have ablank always-on display. Now, the S23 Ultra does havea slightly higher resolution, which means things are goingto be slightly sharper. You might not noticethem on the day to day.And the iPhone 14 Pro Maxactually has a slightly brighter display, with a peak brightness of2,000 nits versus 1,750 nits.So if you are somebody like me,who wears sunglasses all the time, and uses your deviceoutdoors in bright sunlight, then you're going toappreciate that slight edgeon the iPhone 14 Pro Max.Now when it comes to screen-to-body ratio, the S23 Ultra you do get more screen, because the borders are slimmerand because of the curvethey look even slimmer, and we've only got a small punch outfor the front-facing camera. On the iPhone 14 Pro Max,we do have this center cutoutwhich is called the Dynamic Island. Now, although it takes up more spacecompared to the S23 Ultra, itdoes have some functionality. You can get some previews in itand you can also tap and expand it.So, for example, ifyou're playing some music, that's going to continuein the Dynamic Island, and then you can tap to expand it.Now I personally don'tfind myself interactingwith the Dynamic Island too much, purely because it is theupmost part of the screenso it's the least reachable. However, I do like some ofthe different animationsand the previews that you get, especially when you're playing music. Now another reason why wehave this post-shaped cutouton the iPhone 14 Pro Maxis because we have Face ID,so all of the sensorsare behind there as well. The S23 Ultra has an ultrasonicin-display fingerprint scanner. This is the 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2,and it is personally one of my favoritefingerprint scanners on any smartphone. Now, which one you prefer, the face ID or the fingerprint scanner,is going to come down to your day to day.I personally would edge towardsthe fingerprint scanner, purely because I do like usingmy phone when I'm in bed,and my face is halfway in the pillow.Using face ID you have to kind of get out, whereas on the S23 Ultra,I don't need to do that.Right, now let's talk about the cameras.- Hey, SideSaf here.- Aren't you supposed to be editing?- I know, I just wanted to remind you guysthat we have done aSuperSafStyle camera comparisonbetween these two, which youcan check out after this video, and also maybe considersubscribing because we,by we I mean me, are workingvery hard on lots more content,so you don't want to miss them.- Yeah, these videos are not goingto edit themselves, so yeah, get back to it.So as SideSaf was saying,if you haven't already, then do consider subscribingfor more content like this. And also, I have worked ona detailed SuperSafStylecamera comparison ofboth of these devices. It's 18 minutes longand I cover all aspects. You can go ahead and check that out.But to give you a quick breakdown,I think both devices takegreat photos and videos. Both have an ultra wide camera,a primary camera, as wellas a telephoto camera, but the S23 Ultra doeshave two telephoto camerasand it can give you better extended zoom.I also did prefer the S23 Ultrafor the ultra wide camera, and the primary camera on the S23 Ultradoes have a much higherresolution, 200 megapixels, which does give you a lot of detail. However, there is quitea bit of shutter lagon the S23 Ultra, so ifyou do like taking picturesof kids and pets, you're probablygoing to get a better resultwith the iPhone 14 Pro Max.And I also still doprefer the video overallon the iPhone 14 Pro Max;it was more consistent. It also has better cinematic modeand a better stabilization. The S23 Ultra does now have8k at 30 frames a second, which is great for lots of detail, but when I'm looking at anoverall package for video, the iPhone 14 Pro Maxwould be my preference. And for photos, I wouldoverall pick the S23 Ultraif you must know. But once again, I want to emphasizethat I wouldn't mind goingwith either of these, and you can check out thatfull camera comparisonif you're interested in all the details.Right, now let's move on to performance. So the iPhone 14 Pro Max ispowered by the A16 Bionic chip. The S23 Ultrais powered by the QualcommSnapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy. This is a custom chip.Good news is,this is the chip thatyou get across the board.Traditionally, Samsung deviceswould have an Exynos chip in Europe, and in the US you wouldhave the Qualcomm chip. That generally made things inconsistentand quite difficult to assess performance. But in my experience, bothhave been really, really goodand handled anythingthat I've thrown at them.I'm personally not a gamer, but my friend Thunder-Efrom BooredAtWork is.He's actually done a detailed gaming teston both of these devices.I'll leave those videos linkeddown in the description belowif you want to check those out.But in terms of my day-to-day usage, these have been absolutely fine. However, the iPhone 14Pro Max does have less RAMcompared to the S23 Ultra, and I have noticed this incertain situations, such as,for example, uploadingstories onto Instagram. You have to kind of stay thereuntil it's fully uploaded on the iPhone, otherwise it just won't carryon doing it in the background. So the iPhone is quite aggressivewith its RAM management. With the S23 Ultra, I canjust post and go away,do something else, and it willcarry on in the background. Now this might be due tothe more RAM that we have,or it might also have thingsto do with the software, and we do have different softwarein both of these devices, of course,we've got Android versus iOS.So on the iPhone 14 Pro Max,the current version is iOS 16.3.The S23 Ultra comes withAndroid 13 out of the boxwith One UI 5.1.Now I'm not going to go into abattle about which one's better.I think a lot of it does comedown to your personal usage.I'm somebody who usesboth Android and iOS,and I think these are some ofthe best examples that we haveof both operating systems. Now, usually I would emphasize on the factthat you're going to be getting updateson the iPhone 14 Pro Max a lotlonger than on the S23 Ultra, and that will still be the case. However, Samsung has actuallymade a big commitmentto provide four Android OS updatesas well as five years of security updates, which is really impressive.Of course, with the iPhone, because this is part of the ecosystem, you will be getting updatesfor potentially even longer than that. Now I want to talk about someof the additional featuresthat both devices offer. So the S23 Ultra does have somethingthat you're not goingto get on any iPhone, and that is the S-Pen.Now this gives you a level of precisionyou're just not going to get,and it's just got 2.8milliseconds of latency. So if you want to jot down somequick notes, do some doodles, edit some images, oreven sign some documents, you're going to be able todo that much more easilyon the S23 Ultra. This also works remotely,so you can use it as a remotetrigger for the cameras, which is nice. And there's also handwriting recognitionwhich is built into the software.I'm somebody who really likes the S-Pen,even though I don't use it all the time. Now, because the S23 Ultrais a Samsung flagship device,it does also come with DeX.DeX will allow you to havea full desktop experiencewirelessly from yoursmartphone onto a big screen, and also allow you to control the mouseusing your device as a touch pad.Now it's so crazy how manypeople don't actually know this.I actually told one ofmy friends about this, and he was just mind blown by DeX.Now the iPhone 14 Pro Max alsohas some additional featuresthat you don't have on the S23 Ultra. The first is crash detection. So if in the unfortunate eventyou are involved in a car crash, the iPhone can contact emergencyservices on your behalf. What's funny is that ithas been triggering thison some roller coasters.I'm not sure what thelatest is about that, but that was something. And the iPhone also hasEmergency SOS via satellite. Now this is something that's really cool.If you're out in the middle of nowhereand you lose signal completelyand you need to contactemergency services, the iPhone's actuallygoing to be able to connectonto satellites.I've personally, thankfully, not had to use this as yet,but it is availableacross many regions now.For the speakers, we havestereo speakers on both. There's one in the earpiece and one bottom firing.I think both of themsound really good to me.I'm no audiophile. My buddy Thunder E from Boord At Work is,and he has done a detailed speaker test.I'm going to link that downin the description below. In a nutshell, from what he said,is that both of them are very, very close, but the iPhone is fuller, whatever that means. But anyway, the otherthing I want to talk aboutis the ports on both of these devices. So the S23 Ultra has themore universal USB Type C.The iPhone 14 Pro Max still has lightning, which for me is quite frustrating, because being an Appleuser for other deviceslike my MacBook Pro andmy iPad Pro as well, they all use USB Type C,but we still have the veryoutdated lightning porton the iPhone 14 Pro Max.It looks like Apple isgoing to either be forcedto use USB Type C or they'rejust going to go port-less.But currently, as it stands, the S23 Ultra does get the advantagefor having much more of a universal port.Right, now let's talk aboutbattery size and performance. So the S23 Ultra does havea larger physical batterycompared to the iPhone 14Pro Max, but of course, both of them are runningcompletely differenthardware and software, whichmeans that the battery sizeno longer becomes relevant. Now, in terms of battery life, the iPhone 14 Pro Max hasgiven me great battery life. The S23 Ultra so faris actually keeping up,and giving me similar batterylife to the iPhone 14 Pro Max.Now this is early days, but the S22 Ultrawas definitely not asgood as the S23 Ultra. And also, the fact thatwe've got that consistent, efficient chip set, theQualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2,it does mean that, again,in my experience so far,it is keeping up withthe iPhone 14 Pro Maxand I think both of thesehave excellent battery life. Now for charging, the S23Ultra gets the advantage, because it can support thefaster 45 watt charging, whereas the iPhone 14 Pro Maxcan just do around 20 watts. So the iPhone 14 Pro Max,50%'s going to take around 30 minutes, whereas it's just going to take20 minutes on the S23 Ultra. For wireless charging, theS23 Ultra does have supportfor up to 15 watts ofQi wireless charging. The iPhone 14 Pro Maxcan charge at 15 watts, but only with MagSafe.MagSafe is really cooland it just snaps on,but it is proprietary. The S23 Ultra also supportsWireless PowerShare,so you can share thepower from the S23 Ultrato another device, eventhe iPhone 14 Pro Max.It's something that I very rarely use,but it can be usefulif you're out and aboutand you just want to top upyour earbuds or something. Now one thing to mentionif you don't already know, chargers do not comeincluded out of the boxes,so you are going to have toget those chargers separatelyif you don't already have them.Right, now let's lookat storage and pricing. So the S23 Ultra actuallystarts at a higher base model,256 gigabytes compared to the128 of the iPhone 14 Pro Max,but both of them do go allthe way up to one terabyte. As you probably alreadyknow or should know, neither of these have expandable storage.Previous Samsung devices, many, many years ago,did have expandable storage, but we've not had thatfor quite some time. And for pricing, if we comparethe 256 gigabyte models, they actually start atthe same price in the US.However, in the UK and other regions, the iPhone 14 Pro Max does come in highercompared to the equivalentstorage models of the S23 Ultra, and Samsung are also currently offeringthe 512 gigabyte versionfor the price of the 256 gigabyte version. And if you do use my affiliate linkdown in the description below, you can also get up to $150of instant Samsung credit. So when you combine all of that, you are going to be paying less overallfor the S23 Ultra comparedto the iPhone 14 Pro Max.So that is the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultraversus the iPhone 14 Pro Max.What are my opinions?Well, personally speaking,I really do like both of these devices, and both of them will be inmy pockets going forward.Of course, both have theiradvantages and disadvantages. However, a lot of itis going to come down to yourpreference of operating system. If you could pick one of these, which one would you go for?Drop me a comment below, let me know your thoughts.I have done that detailedcamera comparisonbetween these two; I'llleave that link here, and also leave anotherrelated video link here.If you want to see more videos like this, then don't forget to subscribeand hit that bell icon.We do have even more S23 coverage,SideSaf is working veryhard at the editing.I hope you enjoyed thisvideo and found it useful. If you did, then do smashthat like button for me.Thanks for watching. This is Saf on SuperSaf TV,and I'll see you next time.\n"
