Phiaton BT 460 Headphones - Review

The History and Reputation of Fiat Ins BT 460 Bluetooth Headphones

When Fiat In launched its latest high-end audio brand in 2008, music lovers on the go were left wondering what to expect from this new player. However, over the years, Fiat In has built up a reputation for producing high-quality and stylish headphones and earphones. Its latest product, the VT 460, is no exception.

The BT 460 boasts a plastic body with a metal core and a fairly plain but sleek matte finish available in black or white. The ear cups are lined with soft plush leather and are decently sized for an over-the-ear fit. They are adjustable in height but don't really rotate much on the underside of the headband. There is also a rubber air-filled cushion that provides some but not much padding from the top of your head. Large letters indicating left and right are discreetly hidden inside the ear cups, atop red lining which provides a splash of contrasting color.

The design of the headphones is smart and seamless, with the only visible button being the power button on the right earpiece. At the bottom of the earpiece is a small snap-open door that conceals two microUSB charging ports and an aux port. These headphones post a battery life of about 20 hours, though that depends on your playback volume levels. However, if the headphones do run out of battery, you can plug in the included audio cable with inline controls and continue listening to your music.

The sliding volume control works with both Android and iOS devices, while the mic button allows you to start and stop music playback. Pairing until the headphones over Bluetooth is straightforward, power on the headphones by pressing and holding the power button, then select BT 460 in your device's Bluetooth menu. When using Bluetooth, the playback controls are right here hidden as touch controls on the outside of the right earpiece.

DoubleTap the earpiece to play, pause music, or answer phone calls. Swipe forward or back for track selection, and swipe up and down for volume control. It's pretty intuitive, now at times we found the double tapping didn't register, and we had to try a few times. Fortunately, you can also control play and pause by pressing the power button for one second. The volume adjusts in smooth and gentle increments that allows precise selection of the volume level you want.

One really cool feature with these headphones is that they can detect when you take them off and automatically pause playback when you put them on again. The headphones resume the track where you left off. The BT 460 is also the first in Phaeton's line of headphones to support the share me feature, which allows you to pair a second set of BT 60s with the first, so you and a friend can listen to the same music from a single source device.

However, we didn't have a second set on hand to try it. It does involve putting the headphones back into Bluetooth pairing mode by turning them off and then holding the power button for five seconds. This is also useful if you need to reset the headphones to pair with a different music source. In terms of audio quality, the BT 416 delivers clear crisp and bright sound. The bass is boosted prominently for more power in the lower ranges and balanced up top with some treble enhancement.

This is great for bass lovers but the sound profile may not suit listeners looking for a more accurate sound rendition at the loudest volume. The headphones flirt a bit with distortion in the upper ranges, but manages to keep it at bay. That said, you probably won't need to turn it up on the way as these get plenty loud and the sound isolation is very good.

The Fiat Ins BT 460 offers a portable, comfortable, and modern design with clean clear based enhanced audio and although it's artificially balanced, it manages to deliver an enjoyable listening experience across a number of genres.
