What's Up Guys? iOS 8.1 Beta Review
Apple has just released iOS 8.1 beta, and I'm excited to dive into the new features and changes that come with this update. As we explore the operating system, you'll notice some visual cues that indicate what's new.
One of the first things that might catch your attention is the revamped iBooks icon. It now resembles the promotional iBooks icon designed for iOS 8, setting the tone for some exciting updates to the app. Let's take a closer look at the control center by hitting the edit button. If we notice something different here, it's the increased size and visibility of third-party widgets and the widget section itself. All elements are now bigger and more easily accessible, making it easier to add or remove them from the sections.
This change is likely an attempt to improve user experience and make it more intuitive for users to manage their widgets. Apple has also made these changes bigger as well, which could help with navigation. Another notable update in iOS 8.1 beta is the introduction of a new dictation option in the keyboard section. This feature allows you to dictate what you want to type without having to speak into Siri or use voice-to-text features.
The dictation option can be disabled or enabled at your discretion, and it's now situated within the keyboard itself rather than being tied to Siri's functionality. Normally, when you turn on Siri, it would automatically enable this feature for you. However, with iOS 8.1 beta, you have more control over this feature.
In addition to these changes, the photos app has received a recent update that adds a new "Camera Roll" section. This is likely an effort to reorganize and make it easier for users to find their photos. Furthermore, when tapping on third-party apps like Twitter, you can now access individual settings for each application from one central location.
This streamlined approach allows you to enable or disable features such as location services, manage your photos, and more – all within a single section. Apple has also introduced its own section for managing app settings, making it easier for users to navigate and customize their experience.
Another notable update in iOS 8.1 beta is the ability to determine if your device supports Wi-Fi calling. If your device is capable of making phone calls over Wi-Fi, you'll see the carrier name and "Wi-Fi" next to it, indicating that your device can make these calls. However, I won't be able to demonstrate this feature in this video since I don't have a T-Mobile phone – but rest assured that all carriers will roll out this functionality soon.
Before we conclude our review of iOS 8.1 beta, let's take a look at some of the changes Apple made to address software bugs present in the initial release of iOS 8. According to the release notes, iOS 8.1 targets most of the software bugs, focusing more on interface changes rather than these updates.
