The All-New Aston Martin V8 Vantage S: A Road Car like No Other

This is the all-new Aston Martin V8 Vantage S, and before we go any further, listen to this because quite frankly, there's no better way to sum up what this car is all about. So, what do you get in the new frontal chest? You get a slightly tweaked V8 engine, which is very nice, but most importantly of all, you get a seven-speed Graziano gearbox. Unfortunately, it's not a manual; fortunately, it's an extremely good paddle shift system. You've also got a sport button, which increases the throttle response and gear change speed. Really, there's no way you'd ever want a manual gearbox again after experiencing how good and quickly this gearbox shifts. It really is, in terms of the gearbox, almost as good as it gets. The thing is, it's so smooth, as well as being really, really quick when you're not in sport. You can even put it in D and just drive along like a normal automatic, which case it just slurs along and feels like a normal auto. But when you put it in sport, you get these really snappy, quick, pretty funky feeling gear changes. I love it; I really do.

The steering on this car has also been changed, with the rack made a bit quicker, not to the point where it feels neurotic, that would be a mistake, but it definitely feels more alert. The turn-in is sharper, and just the steering overall feels better. It's always had a very nice feel; now it's even improved. The brakes are also better, with larger discs, which really stops properly. This is a proper sports car.

So, how much does this amazing car cost? A staggering £102,000. There is one problem with that price, and that is that you can get a 911 Turbo for not a lot more money. We all know how good a car a 911 Turbo is, but you know what I think; I might have one of these instead of a 911 Turbo.

Criticism Time

There is just a tiny bit of brake fade, which is a little bit disappointing. You can also feel the weight when you really start to lean on it through a quick corner. Lovely feel from the back axle, lovely balance, but you can just feel, I think it weighs; it can't be far off 1700 kilograms. I don't actually know how much it weighs, but okay, there you go, I don't know how much it weighs, but it feels like it weighs about 1700 kilograms. It might be a bit less, but it's just this kind of slightly unchecked sensation of sway when you get really near the limit that you could do without. But, I mean, this is a road car and I'm going absolutely bananas on a track in it; that's a very small criticism, really.

Overall

Overall, I love this car. I really do. I think it's fantastic. How could you not love driving a car like this?
