Skoda Superb Estate 2018 in-depth review _ Mat Watson Reviews

**Skoda Superb Estate: A Practical and Comfortable Choice**

As I sat in the Skoda Superb Estate, I was struck by its spacious interior and comfortable ride. The car's chassis is shared with the Volkswagen Passat, but it has been lengthened to accommodate the estate body style. This makes for a roomy cabin, perfect for families or those who need plenty of space for luggage.

The suspension is great at hiding out bumps in the road, making for a smooth and comfortable ride. However, if you want an even more comfortable experience, top-of-the-range cars are available with adaptive dampers. But really, the standard setup does a good job of handling and corners well, without being too sporty. After all, this is not a car designed for track days.

The interior features are also noteworthy. The feet, in particular, are quite nice – the material is a bit on the cheap side, but they're comfy and you'll hardly notice them even when driving at speed. One thing to note is that there can be a fair amount of wind whistling through the car at high speeds, but it's not too much of a problem. Visibility-wise, the Skoda Superb Estate has hardly any blind spots, making it easy to maneuver in tight spaces.

In terms of controls, they're nice and light, with plenty of intuitive features to make life easier on the road. The rearview camera is also a welcome addition, helping to mitigate parking difficulties. Speaking of which, while the Skoda Superb Estate can be tricky to park, the reversing sensors are now standard, so you should never have to worry about running into anything behind you.

**Choosing the Right Engine**

When it comes to engines, the Skoda Superb Estate offers a range of options to suit different needs and budgets. The 1.4-liter TSI turbo petrol engine is my top choice – it's not too pricey, yet still delivers decent economy. However, if you're looking for a diesel option, the 1.6-liter unit is also available, which Skoda claims can achieve up to 76 miles per gallon in the Green Line model.

In practice, I've found that this engine has just enough power and efficiency for most people's needs. If you plan on driving at high speeds or towing a trailer, the 2-liter diesel may be more suitable – but be aware that it comes with four-wheel drive, which adds to the price tag. On the other hand, if you want to prioritize performance, the 2-liter turbo petrol engine with 280 horsepower is available, and it's definitely worth considering.

**The Verdict: A Skoda Superb Estate Worth Considering**

In conclusion, I highly recommend the Skoda Superb Estate for anyone in the market for a spacious and comfortable estate car. While it may not be the most exciting drive, it more than makes up for it with its practicality and features. The interior is well-appointed, with plenty of storage space and thoughtful touches like the boot light doubles as a torch.

So, should you avoid this car altogether? I think not. Instead, I'd say give the Skoda Superb Estate a chance to win you over. It may not be perfect – but it's certainly close. And if you do decide to buy one, rest assured that you're making an excellent choice.
