The 2024 Cadillac Celestic: A Luxurious and Ambitious Electric Vehicle
Well, Cadillac is swinging for the fences with this one. I said it would be an impressive ambitious machine when the automaker first shut off the concept version and everyone knew the concept version was already close to the production version but now it's all official this is the 2024 Cadillac celestic and it's wickedly impressive but it also lands with some big question marks behind it. Let's get this part out of the way right out of the game yes it's crazy to think that Cadillac is building a car that will cost north of three hundred thousand dollars some of you may shout that it makes no sense and GM should make more affordable options they do sticking with Cadillac you have the lyric jumping to GMC you have the Sierra EV coming out and then climbing down to Chevrolet you have well a ton of options including the Blazer the Silverado The Equinox the bolt euv and the regular bolt so GM is in fact offering a fairly wide range of electric vehicles at a wide range of prices that three hundred thousand dollar price tag is a bold move though I'm not denying that.
So, what is the celestic exactly? Well, it's a limited run machine that's hand built to order based on the client's customized request. Yes, you're thinking that sounds like how Rolls-Royce might offer a vehicle and that's the sort of customer that Cadillac wants to attract with this thing after all there was a time when Cadillac was considered the standard of the world and it seems like the automaker would like to get back to that notion. The celestic is a sleek full-size luxurious vehicle with room for four. There's a ton of carbon fiber used for the body panels, there are no visible door handles, and the cabin space features a 55-inch glass panel that runs the entire width of the dash. There's another 11 inch touchscreen that rises up from the central tunnel for those in the back seats. You'll find 12.6 inch displays on the seat backs in front of you plus an eight inch touchscreen to control all sorts of functionality including seating positions, the opening and closing of the doors, and even adjusting the amount of light coming in from the All Glass panoramic roof.
You can also control the tunes which will pump out through a 38 speaker AKG Studio reference sound system. As for the driving experience, the celestic rides on an Adaptive air suspension system, there's active rear steering, Magnetic Ride Control, and an active rear spoiler. Massive 23 inch aluminum wheels are available, this is riding on the ultium platform too. Cadillac outfits the car with a 111 kilowatt hour battery pack feeding a pair of electric motors. The all-wheel drive system handles 600 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. Cadillac says the driving range is 300 miles per, and it runs from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds not bad for a car that will likely weigh quite a bit when you need to charge your Uber fancy Cadillac EV.
The celestic can handle speeds up to 200 kilowatts which will net at 78 miles of range in 10 minutes, I'm sure the average celestic owner will have a home charging setup but still I'd love to see this on a faster architecture to be able to take down 350 kilowatt charging speeds instead. Regardless, the celestic is real it's happening and The Styling is pushing boundaries and I can appreciate that Cadillac says it will enter production in December of 2023 and orders will be handled via a waitlist system how many people will be on that list we'll have to wait and see.
