It's time to WAKE UP, PC Builders! Monthly Builds + GPU Pricing May 2022

**XFX Graphics Cards Listed Below MSRP on Newegg**

The wait is finally over for those looking to upgrade their graphics cards, as XFX has listed several models at their recommended selling price (MSRP) on Newegg. This news comes as a welcome relief to gamers and PC enthusiasts who have been eagerly awaiting new hardware releases. The XFX model that caught our attention is the 6600 XT, which can be found listed on Newegg for $374 after a $15 mail-in rebate. This price point makes it an attractive option compared to other graphics cards in its class.

**AMD Raise the Game Bundle Coming Soon**

In addition to the XFX listings, there's also an AMD Raise the Game bundle coming soon, although details are still scarce. The bundle is expected to include a 6600 XT graphics card and other components, but no further information has been released yet. It's worth noting that this bundle may not be widely available at launch, so it's essential to stay tuned for updates.

**Avoid the RX 6500 XT**

While the RX 6500 XT is a solid mid-range option, it's recommended to avoid it in favor of the 6600 XT or other more powerful graphics cards. The RX 6500 XT may not be able to keep up with the performance of newer models, and its prices are currently higher than some of its competitors.

**Nvidia's Closest Competitor: RTX 3060**

The Nvidia RTX 3060 is a popular mid-range option that has seen significant price drops in recent months. While it's still priced at $410, the XFX 6600 XT offers more performance and features for less money. However, if you're interested in ray tracing or have a G-Sync monitor, the RTX 3060 might be worth considering.

**Bang for Buck Perspective**

When evaluating the Nvidia options, the 3070 Ti Gigabyte Vision is currently priced at $750 on Newegg's marketplace. This makes it a more expensive option compared to the XFX 6600 XT. However, if you're looking for a high-end graphics card with top-tier features and performance, the 3070 Ti might be worth considering.

**No Component Shortages in Sight**

Contrary to recent rumors of component shortages, there doesn't seem to be any significant issues with memory or other components at this time. This is a welcome relief for gamers and PC enthusiasts who have been waiting for new hardware releases.

**Building a Solid Mid-Range PC**

With the prices of graphics cards currently ranging from $330 to over $900, it's now possible to build a solid mid-range PC that offers plenty of upgrade potential. The ideal build cost is around $850 to $900, making it an excellent time to invest in a new gaming PC or upgrade your existing one.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enevery time i've done a video about gpu pricing in the past year plus i've gotten the same response well guess what guys it's time to wake up excellent today's video was brought to you by the new lightwings fans from be quiet which combine legendary near silent operation with optimal performance and of course rgb lighting control the look of your pc with up to 20 addressable leds per fan and choose from standard pwm for airflow or pwm high speed for use with radiators and heatsinks they're available in 120 millimeter and 140 millimeter sizes and suitable for any build in need of a functional and tasteful rgb upgrade so for more on the new lightwings fans from be quiet click the sponsor link in the video description so this is my monthly deals monthly builds and gpu pricing video for may 2022. things have been a little weird with my schedule recently so i decided i would just combine them all in the same video to quickly sum up i've been doing monthly builds for years now it's my regular series where i help people who are trying to build a new computer out by helping them choose the parts that they might need not everyone is immersed in the world of pc technology so i use my knowledge of what's good what's fast what's competitively priced and give you guys some parts list at the beginning of every month that's been a little bit harder to do over the past couple years though because of the gpu shortage which has caused gpu prices to skyrocket higher than any other component so i have supplemented the monthly builds with some monthly deals where i say here's good deals on everything except the gpu but now in 2022 since gpu prices have been falling steadily i've been tracking that with a monthly series which we'll do an update on as well but a quick reminder for anyone looking to build i have tutorials that are available the how to build a pc tutorial is still very applicable today check my beginner's guide to building a pc playlist where i have other tutorials like setting up a pc for the first time after you've built it with that said though let's take a look at my gpu pricing spreadsheet which i've updated for may 2022 in this column right here is the may pricing i did not update this last month in april but i do have street pricing from january which is where i sort of started out and then i updated that with retail pricing in february march and now may and then over on the left you can see nvidia 30 series cards i dropped in a couple 16 series cards and then amd radeon 6000 series cards down at the bottom and i can almost fit them all on screen here but let's quickly look at how to read this first of all these are the january markups that we are looking at that's the price over msrp that you would have had to pay for these cards back in january and here in line m you can see the markups that you're looking at right now as they're significantly less than they used to be thank goodness we also have these three columns which is the change from january to may from february to may from march to may so you can see that even between march and now we've still had prices continuing to drop but the big news is that there is some green over here on this price versus msrp section and yes even though it's the 3080 ti which came out much later than the other 30 series cards so it launched with a pretty inflated price of 1200 msrp over the 700 msrp of the 3080 but you can find them at retail for 1150 now and that is about 4.17 below msrp so yes even though the msrp for many of the other nvidia cards is still in the red and we're still looking at markups of 16 to 40 percent we're beginning to see more and more cards drop down into a price range that seems pretty reasonable and this is the gigabyte eagle card that was selling for 1 150 and just fyi newegg is what i'm using for this pricing information the lowest card that's available for sale at retail shipped and sold by newegg and here is a quick word of warning remember that newag amazon and many other websites have marketplace sellers so so as soon as newegg sells out of their inventory and they actually brought this down to 1430 plus 10 shipping so that brings that's even a lot of these cards have gone down just since yesterday when i started researching this video but be forewarned that some third-party sellers like it will jump in and try to try to like look like they're offering the same price but they'll tack on 50 for shipping and you should also pay attention to where it ships from hong kong which means they're gonna be waiting anywhere from four days to three weeks to get that card that said if we scroll down to the radeon section we see a lot more favorable numbers over here in the price versus msrp section apart from the 6800xt and 6800 we're looking at below msrp for some cards like the 6900xt and the 6600 equivalent msrp for the 6500 xt and a couple other good options in the mid-range here that are only two to five percent marked up with the 6600 xt and 6700 xt do bear in mind that the 6950x the 6750xt and the 6650xt just recently launched i didn't put those on the charts here but i did note them like the 6950xt is 1100 but that's quite a significant markup when you can get the standard 6900xt for 950. the 6750xt is 560. uh that's msrp plus 10 shipping but you can get the 67 950 xt for 500. and the 6650xt is selling for 410 but it only marginally outperforms the 6600 xt which you can currently find for 390. oh and here this is why realitycheck i've just refreshed the 6600xt on newegg and we now have a couple models going for 380 an xfx and an asus i will update my numbers here and oh guess what 380 is 380 is the cards msrp that's a reason to celebrate in this strange world that we live in let's quickly just run down some of the highlights here again the 3080 ti going for 1150 is below msrp and the only nvidia card that can claim that the 3080 is still marked up by about 150 to 160 although it is significantly down from the 3080 ti i think the 3070 ti is the best bang for the buck in terms of the mid-range to high-end cards at 700 it is technically the msrp of the rtx 3080 and it is still a hundred bucks over its uh 600 msrp itself but that's a 16.6 markup so i do have a couple of these cards listed in the video description i don't think it's worth it to go for a 30 70 right now and when you get down to the 30 60 ti you will find that there are more compelling options uh for example the 6700 xt i would totally get over the 30 60 ti especially since it's 60 bucks cheaper likewise as we run down the stack i'd really like to see the nvidia cards drop in price a bit more i'd like to see less red in this column over here and i think if we as consumers continue to focus on the more compelling bargains that amd is offering right now video will have no choice but to follow suit and drop some of these prices too i did simplify the chart for this month and i removed some of the used deals out there i did leave the 16 series on here these are still selling i think for too much of a markup 330 and 350 at that point you'd be better off going with an rtx 3050 uh or not don't get the 3050 you should actually go for an rx 6600 for 300 which will totally spank an rtx 3050 in terms of performance and again you're paying 300 bucks which is 30 less than the msrp of 330. if you are looking for a decent step up in performance though from the 6600 keep your eye on the 6600 xt and the 6650xt for around 380 to 400 that's a nice bump up in performance it is again right around the msrp which is right around where it's supposed to be and i guess i i could note that the 6500 xt is currently available for 200 and even some for a little bit less than that if you count to mail and rebates but this card just has so many shortcomings to it i would say save a little bit more money opt for an rx 6600 because yeah like here's the xfx speedster swift 6600 8 gig selling for 300 no mail-in rebate or anything like that required this is being sold by the xfx official store so note that you'll need to purchase it there rather than from new egg noig still has it listed for 330 bucks and one other thing to warn is that there are some rx 6600 light editions you can see that listed right here this one would be 330 so not the most compelling deal right out of the gate but the light edition cards only have two monitor outputs one hdmi and one display port so that might be a serious shortcoming for some people just keep an eye out for those cards that's that's one of the shortcomings of the 6500xt and one of the reasons we've often recommended against it so thanks to those gpu prices continuing to drop as well some other components that have also come down in price we now have a couple really solid mid-range gaming pc recommendations for about 850 to 900 and i'm going to run through those next the first is an intel build based on the 12 400 with the rx 6600 for the gpu and the rest of the components you can see here and the total price for all those is about 852 or you can swap that over to a very similarly spec'd amd build with a ryzen 5 5600 which you can get for 185 total on this build is 833 dollars so it's about 20 bucks less and as you can see uses many of the same components so so next i'm going to go over these parts as well as some alternative components to help you figure out whether you want to just use my parts lists as is or swap in some components here and there to get more ssd storage or a little bit more performance so for starters let's look at the core components that's your cpu and your motherboard and then a little bit by extension your memory for the amd system i have a ryzen 5 5600 this is a more recently launched six core 12 thread processor it's 200 bucks on newegg and then there's a 15 off promo code so that brings it down to 185. do bear in mind that the 5600x is still available and that has come down to 200 it's crazy that this was selling for 309 at some point this is going to get you a little bit more clock speed out of the box and probably a little bit more overclocking performance if that's something that you're interested in but that may or may not be worth the extra 15 for you either way though for a mid-range build i recommend a b550 chipset motherboard and i have a few different options here the gigabyte b550 gaming xv2 is only 130 dollars this is a really solid bang for the buck option with a nice set of features like a fixed io shield four dimm slots for future memory expansion it's got a couple m.2 slots as well for your m.2 nvme ssds and it even has a usb 3.2 gen 2 front panel port which is one of those little things that i like to have in a motherboard we also have the asus prime v550 plus this one's 136 dollars so only a few dollars more personally between the two of these i think i would opt for the gigabyte for right now but maybe this one matches your aesthetic color scheme of your system a little bit better then we've got the msib 550-a pro for 140 this one has a very similar layout and feature set to the gigabyte board it does still have that front panel a usb 3.2 gen 2 header it has a heatsink for one of your m.2 drives and it has a little bit better power delivery if you opt for intel the i5 12 400 is where i would point you to right now and this has dropped in price from around 209 dollars to about 194 probably due to the launch of the 5600 and a little bit more competition that that has brought to the six core market it has the same price over on newegg so you can purchase from either location and then for the motherboard for this one i have the asus prime b660-plus now contrast between the amd boards the am4 boards and the b550 chipset is that b550 still allows unlocked cpu overclocking whereas b660 on the intel side allows you to plug in your memory's xmp values to get your memory running at the proper speed but it does not allow cpu multiplier overclocking which is probably just fine because the 12400 is not a k sku cpu so it's not unlocked for overclocking but it's something to keep in mind if you plan to upgrade your system down the line there are higher end cpus than the 12400 but a couple things here is that this motherboard in particular does not handle the higher end 12 series cpus very well the power delivery on this board can overheat and that might throttle if you try to drop in like a 12 900 k for example so if you do think you might upgrade your cpu down the line consider investing a little bit more in your motherboard out of the gate this is a gigabyte b660m aorus pro ax with really solid power delivery this is 170 it is a micro atx board but if you do want to drop in one of the higher core count cpus from intel it would be good to have this rather than that entry level asus board we also have the asus tough gaming b660m plus another micro atx board for 170 but you also get like wi-fi with this one so that's nice and then even beyond this if you really want a 12 900k or something like that and want to dabble in overclocking then consider getting a z690 board out of the gate rather than a b660 board but you'll probably need to spend 200 or more for that and then the final thing to note for intel builders is that 12th gen cpus are compatible with ddr4 memory and ddr5 memory but the motherboard you choose will only be compatible with one or the other i have chosen all ddr4 memory compatible motherboards for these builds that's why this one says d4 for example that means i can still use the ddr4 memory kit that i have here which only cost 60 versus going ddr5 because ddr5 memory kits are still very expensive right now so i opted for the budget choice here but just note that 12th gen cpus are compatible with ddr5 and if you are looking towards the future that might be something you want to consider too let's go over the rest of the parts in the build though i have the baseline parts which are inexpensive and then i have a few potential alternatives to swap in if you're interested this is a very solid 3600 speed memory kit great for intel or amd but the reason with 3600 in particular is because for amd it will run the infinity fabric at half of this speed and that is a good choice especially for a gaming pc this is also a pretty low key memory kit so it should blend in with most builds if aesthetics are a concern a step up from there would be to add you know rgb this is still a 3600 speed kit from adata and this is actually a bundle that's a pretty good price especially if you add this extra 10 coupon to it 150 bucks for both a 16 gig memory kit which is perfectly adequate for gaming builds right now and you get a one terabyte pcie gen 4 m.2280 ssd and that that that's a pretty fast one that's gen 4 which means read write speeds go up to 6100 megabytes per second so really solid ssd memory combo here that just popped up in my feed so i thought i'd share it and that transitions us over to storage for storage you're at least going to want a 512 gig nvme ssd is what i'm recommending and you can get that for 43 dollars with this team group mp33 in terms of baseline performance for your system and running games the ssd isn't going to affect performance all that much but if you're doing more advanced stuff like video editing then your sequential read and write speeds might be something that you want to take a look at at the entry level for m.2 nvme ssds they should be around this range about 1500 megabytes per second that is a good three times faster than standard sata ssds which is why it's worth it to jump up to m.2 nvme ssds but of course you'll fill up 512 gigs pretty fast so consider up upping to one terabyte the one terabyte version of this drive is only 75 bucks or for only 10 dollars more you can get the adata xpg sx 8100 also a one terabyte drive also available with an extra 10 coupon so that brings this down to the same price at 75 i actually only just noticed that i was going to recommend this drive even for 85 but another 10 dollars off i don't mind and note the increased read and write speeds here read and write speeds aren't the end-all be-all stat for nvme ssds but it's a good one to see if you're actually taking advantage of the additional bandwidth provided by pcie 3.0 by 4 for example next up you will want a case and uh this is a fractal design focus g i'm not specifically recommending this case i mean it's a fine case perfectly good case i have built in this case in recent months so i'll link to that video if you guys want to check it out i just consider this sort of a baseline in terms of performance it's 55 it has a side window so you can see into your build it's got plenty of ventilation it ships with two fans pre-installed so it's already got some airflow there for you it's a plexiglas side panel not tempered glass so that's part of the way that they keep costs down on this but it's also available in a variety of different colors so you can choose a color that might match your aesthetic design choices or whatever or like i said just consider this a baseline in terms of what you can get for 55 56 dollars and then look at other cases and see if it's a compelling enough deal for you this is a good deal on a corsair 5000 d which is actually a full tower case that's made for higher end builds and has space for water cooling components and stuff like that but it was originally 175 down to 130 and now it's a hundred bucks if you're okay milling in a 30 dollar rebate card so there's a couple solid case choices for you of course you'll need a power supply as well and for power supply for the wattage you should look at the graphics card that you're intending to go with and the recommended wattage for that and then aim for that wattage or maybe 50 to 100 watts more it doesn't hurt either 750 watts is what's recommended for like the rtx 3080 so if you go with a higher wattage power supply then it means you'll have better upgrade potential in your system without having to swap out the power supply which can be kind of a pain in the butt because you have to rewire everything it's part of the reason i've recommended this silverstone et750 it's part of their essential series so it's not modular but it has nice flat black cables so it's not going to stand out or look garish when your build is put together and it's 80 plus bronze rated so it's decently efficient we also have an evga model over here this is part of their supernova series which is very nice power supplies still 750 watt this one's 80 plus gold rated so it'll be a little bit more efficient and it's 80 currently over on amazon or consider browsing directly to the evga website and purchasing directly from them although here we will need to sort they have titanium and platinum power supplies if you look at their gold power supplies they have a bunch of instant rebates going on taking prices from you know 80 or 90 dollars down to like here's the supernova 550 for 55 dollars here's the gd series 500 watt for 60 i believe i'd go with the supernova 5455 over the gd series but god damn gosh gosh dang so yeah check out evga for actually some really nice deals on some quality power supplies 80 plus gold rated and the 55 to as much as 70 75 range going up to 700 watts and 750 watts good deals good deals and evga i've recommended their power supplies a lot in the past and i will continue to do so because they manufacture quality power supplies so that covers all the components on our two lists except for the graphics card i already talked about that when i went over the spreadsheet but let's quickly call out some highlights some cards that i would actually point you towards and recommend right now if somebody was like hey paul i have x amount of dollars i want a graphics card what should i buy let's start with the 6500 xt i do not recommend the 6500 xt for anyone except someone who really really only has 200 exactly to spend on a graphics card and yes you can finally at last get uh this xfx model and the power color i feel like xfx kind of went ham today listing their graphics cards for msrp on newegg so i guess i kind of appreciate that yeah 200 bucks or 205 dollars if you include the shipping cost there's also an amd raise the game bundle that's like coming soon i don't know the exact details for that yet but like i said ignore the 6500 xt if you possibly can and try your best to scrape together another 100 bucks or so to get a 6608 gig because it's such a big boost in base performance and this is the 300 uh 6608 gig from xfx but again note who you are buying from and it'll list it up here and if we scroll down a little bit you can see the listing here for the xfx official store 300 plus free shipping and this is the one we want and do note that the xfx has these available through the end of the month so you know hopefully they have plenty of them i have no idea how quickly they'll be selling but yes 330 is the msrp of the 6600 eight gigs so that is below msrp now again a nice step up from the 6600 non-xt is the 6600 xt and this one again is one that has just barely slipped below msrp you do have to account for a 15 mail in rebate here but this one is 389 it brings it down to 374. msrp is 380. so again you've got to deal with a mail-in rebate here but uh that is a much better deal than anything nvidia has for less than 400. speaking of which here's nvidia's closest competitor the rtx 3060 and yes this has come down in price a lot being 410 bucks but unless you like really really really like ray tracing or you already have a g-sync monitor or something like that i feel like the 6600 xt for less money and more performance is a better deal if you are looking for something a little bit higher end other than the rx 6900 xt for about 950 i would point you towards the 30 70 ti on the nvidia side i think this is the best deal sort of from a bang for the buck perspective on the nvidia side but again just a word of warning this is the one that was listed for 700 bucks we got to go all the way down to newegg's more buying options and then go to the very last page and there we can see newegg's listing for 700. so hopefully that comes back into stock soon but in the meantime the next best option uh is the this gigabyte vision 3070 ti which is currently 750 but there you have it guys some very good news in terms of gpu pricing in terms i would say of the entire market we haven't seen any individual components like memory or something be like oh suddenly there's a shortage here now and the prices are going way up so even though we're waiting on some new hardware to land later in the year in the second half of the year we have new gpus from nvidia we have new gpus from amd we have a new platform from amd with am5 and we have new cpus from intel with the 13 series and i guess we also have intel arc gpus but who knows if those will ever actually launch if they're just going to keep talking about them and pushing the launch date out but the upshot is right now you can build a really solid mid-range pc with plenty of upgrade potential for around 850 to 900 dollars and i think that is a very good thing i'll put links to as many of these products as i possibly can the ones i recommend down in the video's description also put links to my tutorial series and guides and playlists for anyone who is trying to learn how to build a pc for the first time and yes although i had to push it back a little bit for again a few different reasons that i'm not going to go into i do have a new how to build a pc series that i'm working on and you can expect that at the end of may and it'll probably overlap into june as well if you guys would like to help support my channel you can check out my store at paulsharbar.net where you can buy shirts mugs pint glasses and all other manner of high quality merchandise i have some new designs coming out really soon too and of course if you enjoyed this video don't forget to hit the like button on your way out and subscribe to my channel if you'd like to see more videos on how to build pcs in the future thanks again for watching guys and we'll see you in the next videoevery time i've done a video about gpu pricing in the past year just since yesterday when i started researching this video but be forewarned that some third-party sellers like it will jump in and try to try to like look like they're offering the same price but they'll tack on 50 for shipping and you should also pay attention to where it ships from hong kong which means they're gonna be waiting anywhere from four days to three weeks to get that card that said if we scroll down to the radeon section we see a lot more favorable numbers over here in the price versus msrp section apart from the 6800xt and 6800 we're looking at below msrp for some cards like the 6900xt and the 6600 equivalent msrp for the 6500 xt and a couple other good options in the mid-range here that are only two to five percent marked up with the 6600 xt and 6700 xt do bear in mind that the 6950x the 6750xt and the 6650xt just recently launched i didn't put those on the charts here but i did note them like the 6950xt is 1100 but that's quite a significant markup when you can get the standard 6900xt for 950. the 6750xt is 560. uh that's msrp plus 10 shipping but you can get the 67 950 xt for 500. and the 6650xt is selling for 410 but it only marginally outperforms the 6600 xt which you can currently find for 390. oh and here this is why realitycheck i've just refreshed the 6600xt on newegg and we now have a couple models going for 380 an xfx and an asus i will update my numbers here and oh guess what 380 is 380 is the cards msrp that's a reason to celebrate in this strange world that we live in let's quickly just run down some of the highlights here again the 3080 ti going for 1150 is below msrp and the only nvidia card that can claim that the 3080 is still marked up by about 150 to 160 although it is significantly down from the 3080 ti i think the 3070 ti is the best bang for the buck in terms of the mid-range to high-end cards at 700 it is technically the msrp of the rtx 3080 and it is still a hundred bucks over its uh 600 msrp itself but that's a 16.6 markup so i do have a couple of these cards listed in the video description i don't think it's worth it to go for a 30 70 right now and when you get down to the 30 60 ti you will find that there are more compelling options uh for example the 6700 xt i would totally get over the 30 60 ti especially since it's 60 bucks cheaper likewise as we run down the stack i'd really like to see the nvidia cards drop in price a bit more i'd like to see less red in this column over here and i think if we as consumers continue to focus on the more compelling bargains that amd is offering right now video will have no choice but to follow suit and drop some of these prices too i did simplify the chart for this month and i removed some of the used deals out there i did leave the 16 series on here these are still selling i think for too much of a markup 330 and 350 at that point you'd be better off going with an rtx 3050 uh or not don't get the 3050 you should actually go for an rx 6600 for 300 which will totally spank an rtx 3050 in terms of performance and again you're paying 300 bucks which is 30 less than the msrp of 330. if you are looking for a decent step up in performance though from the 6600 keep your eye on the 6600 xt and the 6650xt for around 380 to 400 that's a nice bump up in performance it is again right around the msrp which is right around where it's supposed to be and i guess i i could note that the 6500 xt is currently available for 200 and even some for a little bit less than that if you count to mail and rebates but this card just has so many shortcomings to it i would say save a little bit more money opt for an rx 6600 because yeah like here's the xfx speedster swift 6600 8 gig selling for 300 no mail-in rebate or anything like that required this is being sold by the xfx official store so note that you'll need to purchase it there rather than from new egg noig still has it listed for 330 bucks and one other thing to warn is that there are some rx 6600 light editions you can see that listed right here this one would be 330 so not the most compelling deal right out of the gate but the light edition cards only have two monitor outputs one hdmi and one display port so that might be a serious shortcoming for some people just keep an eye out for those cards that's that's one of the shortcomings of the 6500xt and one of the reasons we've often recommended against it so thanks to those gpu prices continuing to drop as well some other components that have also come down in price we now have a couple really solid mid-range gaming pc recommendations for about 850 to 900 and i'm going to run through those next the first is an intel build based on the 12 400 with the rx 6600 for the gpu and the rest of the components you can see here and the total price for all those is about 852 or you can swap that over to a very similarly spec'd amd build with a ryzen 5 5600 which you can get for 185 total on this build is 833 dollars so it's about 20 bucks less and as you can see uses many of the same components so so next i'm going to go over these parts as well as some alternative components to help you figure out whether you want to just use my parts lists as is or swap in some components here and there to get more ssd storage or a little bit more performance so for starters let's look at the core components that's your cpu and your motherboard and then a little bit by extension your memory for the amd system i have a ryzen 5 5600 this is a more recently launched six core 12 thread processor it's 200 bucks on newegg and then there's a 15 off promo code so that brings it down to 185. do bear in mind that the 5600x is still available and that has come down to 200 it's crazy that this was selling for 309 at some point this is going to get you a little bit more clock speed out of the box and probably a little bit more overclocking performance if that's something that you're interested in but that may or may not be worth the extra 15 for you either way though for a mid-range build i recommend a b550 chipset motherboard and i have a few different options here the gigabyte b550 gaming xv2 is only 130 dollars this is a really solid bang for the buck option with a nice set of features like a fixed io shield four dimm slots for future memory expansion it's got a couple m.2 slots as well for your m.2 nvme ssds and it even has a usb 3.2 gen 2 front panel port which is one of those little things that i like to have in a motherboard we also have the asus prime v550 plus this one's 136 dollars so only a few dollars more personally between the two of these i think i would opt for the gigabyte for right now but maybe this one matches your aesthetic color scheme of your system a little bit better then we've got the msib 550-a pro for 140 this one has a very similar layout and feature set to the gigabyte board it does still have that front panel a usb 3.2 gen 2 header it has a heatsink for one of your m.2 drives and it has a little bit better power delivery if you opt for intel the i5 12 400 is where i would point you to right now and this has dropped in price from around 209 dollars to about 194 probably due to the launch of the 5600 and a little bit more competition that that has brought to the six core market it has the same price over on newegg so you can purchase from either location and then for the motherboard for this one i have the asus prime b660-plus now contrast between the amd boards the am4 boards and the b550 chipset is that b550 still allows unlocked cpu overclocking whereas b660 on the intel side allows you to plug in your memory's xmp values to get your memory running at the proper speed but it does not allow cpu multiplier overclocking which is probably just fine because the 12400 is not a k sku cpu so it's not unlocked for overclocking but it's something to keep in mind if you plan to upgrade your system down the line there are higher end cpus than the 12400 but a couple things here is that this motherboard in particular does not handle the higher end 12 series cpus very well the power delivery on this board can overheat and that might throttle if you try to drop in like a 12 900 k for example so if you do think you might upgrade your cpu down the line consider investing a little bit more in your motherboard out of the gate this is a gigabyte b660m aorus pro ax with really solid power delivery this is 170 it is a micro atx board but if you do want to drop in one of the higher core count cpus from intel it would be good to have this rather than that entry level asus board we also have the asus tough gaming b660m plus another micro atx board for 170 but you also get like wi-fi with this one so that's nice and then even beyond this if you really want a 12 900k or something like that and want to dabble in overclocking then consider getting a z690 board out of the gate rather than a b660 board but you'll probably need to spend 200 or more for that and then the final thing to note for intel builders is that 12th gen cpus are compatible with ddr4 memory and ddr5 memory but the motherboard you choose will only be compatible with one or the other i have chosen all ddr4 memory compatible motherboards for these builds that's why this one says d4 for example that means i can still use the ddr4 memory kit that i have here which only cost 60 versus going ddr5 because ddr5 memory kits are still very expensive right now so i opted for the budget choice here but just note that 12th gen cpus are compatible with ddr5 and if you are looking towards the future that might be something you want to consider too let's go over the rest of the parts in the build though i have the baseline parts which are inexpensive and then i have a few potential alternatives to swap in if you're interested this is a very solid 3600 speed memory kit great for intel or amd but the reason with 3600 in particular is because for amd it will run the infinity fabric at half of this speed and that is a good choice especially for a gaming pc this is also a pretty low key memory kit so it should blend in with most builds if aesthetics are a concern a step up from there would be to add you know rgb this is still a 3600 speed kit from adata and this is actually a bundle that's a pretty good price especially if you add this extra 10 coupon to it 150 bucks for both a 16 gig memory kit which is perfectly adequate for gaming builds right now and you get a one terabyte pcie gen 4 m.2280 ssd and that that that's a pretty fast one that's gen 4 which means read write speeds go up to 6100 megabytes per second so really solid ssd memory combo here that just popped up in my feed so i thought i'd share it and that transitions us over to storage for storage you're at least going to want a 512 gig nvme ssd is what i'm recommending and you can get that for 43 dollars with this team group mp33 in terms of baseline performance for your system and running games the ssd isn't going to affect performance all that much but if you're doing more advanced stuff like video editing then your sequential read and write speeds might be something that you want to take a look at at the entry level for m.2 nvme ssds they should be around this range about 1500 megabytes per second that is a good three times faster than standard sata ssds which is why it's worth it to jump up to m.2 nvme ssds but of course you'll fill up 512 gigs pretty fast so consider up upping to one terabyte the one terabyte version of this drive is only 75 bucks or for only 10 dollars more you can get the adata xpg sx 8100 also a one terabyte drive also available with an extra 10 coupon so that brings this down to the same price at 75 i actually only just noticed that i was going to recommend this drive even for 85 but another 10 dollars off i don't mind and note the increased read and write speeds here read and write speeds aren't the end-all be-all stat for nvme ssds but it's a good one to see if you're actually taking advantage of the additional bandwidth provided by pcie 3.0 by 4 for example next up you will want a case and uh this is a fractal design focus g i'm not specifically recommending this case i mean it's a fine case perfectly good case i have built in this case in recent months so i'll link to that video if you guys want to check it out i just consider this sort of a baseline in terms of performance it's 55 it has a side window so you can see into your build it's got plenty of ventilation it ships with two fans pre-installed so it's already got some airflow there for you it's a plexiglas side panel not tempered glass so that's part of the way that they keep costs down on this but it's also available in a variety of different colors so you can choose a color that might match your aesthetic design choices or whatever or like i said just consider this a baseline in terms of what you can get for 55 56 dollars and then look at other cases and see if it's a compelling enough deal for you this is a good deal on a corsair 5000 d which is actually a full tower case that's made for higher end builds and has space for water cooling components and stuff like that but it was originally 175 down to 130 and now it's a hundred bucks if you're okay milling in a 30 dollar rebate card so there's a couple solid case choices for you of course you'll need a power supply as well and for power supply for the wattage you should look at the graphics card that you're intending to go with and the recommended wattage for that and then aim for that wattage or maybe 50 to 100 watts more it doesn't hurt either 750 watts is what's recommended for like the rtx 3080 so if you go with a higher wattage power supply then it means you'll have better upgrade potential in your system without having to swap out the power supply which can be kind of a pain in the butt because you have to rewire everything it's part of the reason i've recommended this silverstone et750 it's part of their essential series so it's not modular but it has nice flat black cables so it's not going to stand out or look garish when your build is put together and it's 80 plus bronze rated so it's decently efficient we also have an evga model over here this is part of their supernova series which is very nice power supplies still 750 watt this one's 80 plus gold rated so it'll be a little bit more efficient and it's 80 currently over on amazon or consider browsing directly to the evga website and purchasing directly from them although here we will need to sort they have titanium and platinum power supplies if you look at their gold power supplies they have a bunch of instant rebates going on taking prices from you know 80 or 90 dollars down to like here's the supernova 550 for 55 dollars here's the gd series 500 watt for 60 i believe i'd go with the supernova 5455 over the gd series but god damn gosh gosh dang so yeah check out evga for actually some really nice deals on some quality power supplies 80 plus gold rated and the 55 to as much as 70 75 range going up to 700 watts and 750 watts good deals good deals and evga i've recommended their power supplies a lot in the past and i will continue to do so because they manufacture quality power supplies so that covers all the components on our two lists except for the graphics card i already talked about that when i went over the spreadsheet but let's quickly call out some highlights some cards that i would actually point you towards and recommend right now if somebody was like hey paul i have x amount of dollars i want a graphics card what should i buy let's start with the 6500 xt i do not recommend the 6500 xt for anyone except someone who really really only has 200 exactly to spend on a graphics card and yes you can finally at last get uh this xfx model and the power color i feel like xfx kind of went ham today listing their graphics cards for msrp on newegg so i guess i kind of appreciate that yeah 200 bucks or 205 dollars if you include the shipping cost there's also an amd raise the game bundle that's like coming soon i don't know the exact details for that yet but like i said ignore the 6500 xt if you possibly can and try your best to scrape together another 100 bucks or so to get a 6608 gig because it's such a big boost in base performance and this is the 300 uh 6608 gig from xfx but again note who you are buying from and it'll list it up here and if we scroll down a little bit you can see the listing here for the xfx official store 300 plus free shipping and this is the one we want and do note that the xfx has these available through the end of the month so you know hopefully they have plenty of them i have no idea how quickly they'll be selling but yes 330 is the msrp of the 6600 eight gigs so that is below msrp now again a nice step up from the 6600 non-xt is the 6600 xt and this one again is one that has just barely slipped below msrp you do have to account for a 15 mail in rebate here but this one is 389 it brings it down to 374. msrp is 380. so again you've got to deal with a mail-in rebate here but uh that is a much better deal than anything nvidia has for less than 400. speaking of which here's nvidia's closest competitor the rtx 3060 and yes this has come down in price a lot being 410 bucks but unless you like really really really like ray tracing or you already have a g-sync monitor or something like that i feel like the 6600 xt for less money and more performance is a better deal if you are looking for something a little bit higher end other than the rx 6900 xt for about 950 i would point you towards the 30 70 ti on the nvidia side i think this is the best deal sort of from a bang for the buck perspective on the nvidia side but again just a word of warning this is the one that was listed for 700 bucks we got to go all the way down to newegg's more buying options and then go to the very last page and there we can see newegg's listing for 700. so hopefully that comes back into stock soon but in the meantime the next best option uh is the this gigabyte vision 3070 ti which is currently 750 but there you have it guys some very good news in terms of gpu pricing in terms i would say of the entire market we haven't seen any individual components like memory or something be like oh suddenly there's a shortage here now and the prices are going way up so even though we're waiting on some new hardware to land later in the year in the second half of the year we have new gpus from nvidia we have new gpus from amd we have a new platform from amd with am5 and we have new cpus from intel with the 13 series and i guess we also have intel arc gpus but who knows if those will ever actually launch if they're just going to keep talking about them and pushing the launch date out but the upshot is right now you can build a really solid mid-range pc with plenty of upgrade potential for around 850 to 900 dollars and i think that is a very good thing i'll put links to as many of these products as i possibly can the ones i recommend down in the video's description also put links to my tutorial series and guides and playlists for anyone who is trying to learn how to build a pc for the first time and yes although i had to push it back a little bit for again a few different reasons that i'm not going to go into i do have a new how to build a pc series that i'm working on and you can expect that at the end of may and it'll probably overlap into june as well if you guys would like to help support my channel you can check out my store at paulsharbar.net where you can buy shirts mugs pint glasses and all other manner of high quality merchandise i have some new designs coming out really soon too and of course if you enjoyed this video don't forget to hit the like button on your way out and subscribe to my channel if you'd like to see more videos on how to build pcs in the future thanks again for watching guys and we'll see you in the next video\n"
