FLAT OUT On Track In Phil's McLaren SENNA [Laguna Seca]

Welcome to Laguna Seca: One of the World's Most Iconic Racetracks

As we step onto the grounds of Laguna Seca, one of the world's most iconic racetracks, it's impossible not to feel a rush of excitement. The event is taking place just after Monterey Car Week, and the paddock is filled with an incredible array of cars from classical historic basins to modern marvels. We're standing in front of a plastic sheeting covering KK Rosberg's Williams F1 car, a testament to the sheer variety of vehicles on display.

As we make our way up the hill to get a closer look at the corkscrew, one of the most iconic corners on the track, it becomes clear why this corner is so revered. The steep incline requires a hike just to reach it, and the chilly day only adds to the sense of excitement. As I approach the giant corkscrew sign, I'm surprised by how close it actually is – and what's more, Phil Hill is standing right in front of me. I've been asked to get some shots of him, but as we step inside the center, I'm suddenly face-to-face with this lunatic.

I have to admit, having driven a Porsche 911 Safari previously, I was expecting something much tamer than what I see before me – a car that boasts an astonishing 500 horsepower. As we talk about the key things to look out for on the track, it's clear that brakes are top of the list. With Michelin tires being tested for the first time today, this is a momentous occasion indeed. Despite my own nerves, Phil reassures me that I'll feel "pretty good" and sets off towards the pit lane.

As we make our way into the pit lane, the sheer speed and agility of this car become apparent – it's unlike anything I've ever experienced before. The acceleration is incredible, and I'm left struggling to keep up as Phil hurtles past me at breakneck speeds. It's clear that this car was built for performance above all else – a far cry from the more aesthetically pleasing road cars I've encountered.

As we take a break to grab some lunch and catch our breath, it's hard not to feel a sense of awe at the sheer power and speed on display. And as we head north to San Francisco, ready to tackle the final leg of our Monterey Car Week adventure, I'm left feeling grateful for this incredible experience – even if it did involve a bit of nervousness behind the wheel.

Bookended by This Car Week: A Quirky Airbnb Experience

As we settle into our quirky Airbnb, it's clear that staying in one of these unique properties is all about embracing the unexpected. The view from our rooftop perch takes our breath away – and as we explore the home's nooks and crannies, we begin to uncover its fascinating history.

The owners have kindly pointed out that this may indeed be an old prince's residence – but one thing is for sure: staying here is an experience unlike any other. As I gaze out over San Francisco, it's hard not to feel grateful for the opportunity to stay in such a unique and character-filled space. And as we prepare to head back into the fray, ready to tackle whatever adventures come our way, it's clear that this experience will be etched in my memory forever.
