Jaguar F-Type R Convertible Test Drive _ Fifth Gear

Hello I'm Vicki Butler Henderson and welcome to this exclusive online footage for the Fifth Gear YouTube channel and I am testing the Jaguar F-Type R Convertible.

But before we go off, please hit subscribe so that you are ready to receive all our exclusive content. Done that perfect? Let's get under the bonnet. Is a five liter supercharged V8 engine and it feels like it's going to be quick. The statistics back it up, naught to 62 in 3.5 seconds and on to 186 miles an hour. This 575 horsepower brute will set you back just over $100,000. Prices start though at a rather more modest $60 grand for the 2 liter 300 horsepower entry level option. Not that that would be enough oomph for me of course though, you do still get those looks when I was outside the car. The proportions were perfect and they seemed reasonably petite but now I'm sat in the car, I feel like it's quite a big machine. I'm nestled deep within the cabin which I like, but I do feel that this car is heavy in fact, it weighs around two tons.

Should we see if it jumps? Oh yes it does! It is an all-wheel drive system so the power goes to all four corners just to help traction. The power delivery is wonderfully smooth there is no lag whatsoever in this supercharger and it feels very much like a normally aspirated V8. I've got 700 newton meters of torque and eight speeds to play with, this car is only available in an eight speed automatic because they only sold how many manuals in 2019. It has got a new electric power assisted steering system and that is attached to a bespoke set of 20 inch alloys.

However, I might as well be turning an A4 piece of paper with a big pair of other gloves on because I have got no feedback whatsoever from the tires. I do not know what they're doing where they're placed how much grip they've got there is absolutely no feedback coming through to my hands. There are only two people in this car that need to be pleased one of them's me, I need to be heavily involved with what's going on in the front end and I'm not rivals are cars like the Aston Martin Vantage and the Porsche 911. The 911 absolutely sets the benchmark for pretty much any category and unfortunately, this Jaguar does not have even a tenth of the involvement that the Porsche gives me.

This could have been so good. This car looks good and it sounds good but it is a bit of a show pony.
