My June Book Picks: A Mix of Thrillers and Diverse Reads
As I sat down to select my book picks for the month, I couldn't help but feel excited about the diverse range of titles that caught my attention. From horror novels to heartwarming comedies of manners, there's something for everyone in this list.
First up is "The Last House Guest" by Megan Miranda. This novel follows Quincy, a woman who was literally "that final girl" at the end of a horror movie. Ten years ago, Quincy went on vacation with five friends and returned alone as the only survivor of a brutal massacre. Now, she's part of a club known as "Final Girls," a group of women who have survived similar horrific events. When one of their own is found dead, Quincy is forced to confront her past and face the trauma that she's been trying to suppress.
I'm really excited about this book because it sounds like a thrilling page-turner. The premise of the Final Girls club and the idea of Quincy having to come to terms with her past are both fascinating and terrifying. I've heard mixed reviews about this book, but I think its unique take on the horror genre makes it a must-read.
Next up is "The Death of Mrs. Westaway" by Rachel Joyce. This novel is a heartwarming comedy of manners that follows Ruth, a 30-year-old woman who quits her job and returns to her hometown to help out her family. When she arrives, she discovers that her family life is more complicated than she ever could have imagined. Her father is struggling with memory loss, and her mother is nursing a deep sense of betrayal.
What I love about this book is its simple yet effective premise. With a page count under 200 pages, this novel promises to be a quick and easy read. And from the description, it sounds like it's all about Ruth reconnecting with her family and learning more about her father's past. The themes of memory loss and family dynamics are both timely and relatable, making this book a great choice for anyone looking for a short but impactful novel.
Last but not least is "The Windfall" by Dinah Jefferies. This novel is a beautiful and heartwarming story about a family who discovers what it means to make it in modern India. When Mr. Macalister, the patriarch of the family, inherits a vast fortune, they move from their cramped apartment to a luxurious home on the other side of town. As they try to navigate their new life, they learn valuable lessons about identity, community, and belonging.
I'm really drawn to this book because it promises to be a diverse read that explores the complexities of modern Indian society. The themes of identity and community are both timely and universal, making this book a great choice for anyone looking to expand their reading horizons. And with its beautiful cover art, I can already tell that this is going to be a stunning read.
Finally, I want to mention that when you sign up for Book of the Month, you'll receive an awesome tote bag as part of your subscription. The tote bags are sturdy and beautifully designed, making them the perfect accessory for any book lover. And with various designs available each month, you're sure to find one that suits your style.
That's all for my June book picks! I'm excited to dive into these novels and explore the different themes and genres they have to offer. Whether you're in the mood for a thrilling horror novel or a heartwarming comedy of manners, there's something on this list for everyone. my pick the first one that really intrigued me and I'm nervous to read it excited at the same time it's final girl bye Riley Sager this book it scares the most out of me like this is probably going to be one of the scariest books we read and if you know me I don't read too many scary books I'm just now getting it - the mystery thriller genre and I do enjoy it but I am still a plate novice and I really have to you know walk my way around the other because this is a scary book so basically this is kind of on the trope of final girl so you see a lot of horror movies which I did a lot when I was younger which may be but to me paints charism now there's always kind of that final girl at the end of movie that survives unscathed if the killer it escapes the horror movie basically this really talks about like what happens these girls after everything that's happened which is very interesting this Roy's wondering like what is my brother doing her life because she literally is about the horror movie so we followed mainly in this book of running Quincy and it says ten years ago Quincy went on vacation with five friends and came back alone the only survivor of a horror booby scale Massacre and an incident she's a member of a club no let's go long to a group of similar girls known as the final girls these final girls like all kind of band together they all were survivors of really really brutal massacres like horror movie brutal massacres today one day one of the first final girls ever named Lisa is found dead in her bathtub basically this is all about Quincy really battling what's her past and she tried to put this event behind her but now this other final girl is really trying to resurface it and trying to really get down to business I guess what happened 10 years ago so bring about all of these feelings and things that maybe Quincy doesn't want to talk about but either way I am very excited to read this I have heard very mixed reviews on it a lot of people either like it or don't like it I don't know it sounds really intriguing to me and the whole thought of like being a final girl this is scary to see the whole premise of this book scares me but I'm very interested in it because it just sounds like such a good idea for a book so I very excited about this this is by probably my most excited to pick for book of the month this month next up I have a very very short book which I do need to start reading more of so I'm glad I think this one and is good by item and by Rachel call and look at this cover it is it reminds me a lot of like a the pop art back in the day this book is very simplistic where like I said it's very very short I want to say it's not even 200 pages which is very tiny 30 year-old woman named Ruth who quits her job leaves town and arrived to her parents home to help out and she finds her family life more complicated than when she left it her her father is like a prominent history faster moving and memories I'm not sure if he's doing with dimensional or Alzheimer's and her mother is smarting from betrayal but basically this is all about I think Ruth you know reconnecting with her family trying to help them out and learning more about her father and maybe helping him out but their way it sounds really good is less than 200 pages and I need to reverse short novels because I feel like the majority of books I read or well over 300 pages or aren't long by any means but there's nothing wrong with a really good short novel every now and then last take for book of the month is the windfall by a dooshka that's who I probably pronounced that wrong again a beautiful beautiful cover this is all about it says a heartfelt comedy of manners the windfall on both the story and a family discovering what it means to make it in modern India so this for the past 30 years mr. missions jaws life has been defined by cramped spaces astronaut comes into an enormous amount of money and they move to the rich side of town worries eager to fit in so basically this is how you basically know learning how to make it in modern India and I think this is a great diverse read which is why I picked it because I really like to I really want to read more diversely in the South like it's such a heartwarming amazing diverse read so I am very very excited for you have it there are my three book-of-the-month picks I am very excited for each one and I should also mention that when you do first sign up for Book of the Month you will get an awesome tote bags as look as the most on it and on the back it has this and this is a sturdy tote bag late that's where the sturdiest tote back I had so no did you get those flimsy ones you're just like someone's going to hold this this this could hold some stuff like I'm going to use this that's a guarantee because it's fool and it's sturdy and it's beautiful and very very summery so that's all I want to share with you this video is my June books is my June picks for
