2013 Audi S4 - Luxury Sedan _ New Car Review _ AutoTrader.com

If You Like the Audi A4 but Crave More Performance, It May Be Time to Get Behind the Wheel of the 2013 Audi S4

The exterior of the S4 is pretty much carried over from last year's model, and that's okay because we like its aggressive stance and sporty attitude. The S force cabin shows off Audi's high-quality craftsmanship, with Bluetooth connectivity, iPod, and SD card storage all standard features. However, there is no USB port available, which isn't a major issue but something to keep in mind. On the other hand, the multimedia interface is definitely a winner for accessing information and entertainment. The standard MMI system is also easy to operate, although it doesn't include navigation. If you want the full package, we'd recommend opting for the MMI Plus, which comes with a handy console-mounted joystick, navigation, voice-activated search functions, and a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. Rear seat passengers will appreciate the roominess back there, and the S4's rear seat side bolsters keep everyone snug in the turns.

One of the standout features of the S4 is its engine, which is a V6 that's supercharged with 333 horsepower. We prefer the standard six-speed manual transmission, but the seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual is also an excellent option, offering seamless gear shifts and slick performance. The standard quattro all-wheel drive system gives the S4 all the right moves on twisty roads, making it a joy to drive. However, we wish the S4 had a more satisfying note playing from its four exhaust pipes when pushed – unfortunately, it doesn't quite live up to our expectations in this regard.

Despite some minor pitfalls, such as the lack of a USB port and an exhaust note that doesn't match its performance, the 2013 Audi S4 is a high-performance world away from the A4. It's based on quick responsiveness and enough luxury to remind you that it's a premium German sedan. In terms of pricing, the MSRP for the Premium Plus S4 is $47,600 before extras, while the Prestige trim jumps up to $53,850.

For comparison, other high-performance sedans like the BMW 335i G37 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG are worth considering. While the C63 AMG may be pricier, it's certainly a more potent option. Ultimately, if you like the Audi A4 but crave even more performance, the S4 is definitely worth exploring. Its exhilarating driving experience more than makes up for any minor drawbacks, and its blend of quick responsiveness, luxury, and performance make it an excellent choice for those seeking a high-performance sedan.
