iOS 14.5 Beta 8 Released - What's New

**Geekbench Scores**

It's worth noting that Geekbench scores are just one way to compare the performance of different devices, and they shouldn't be taken as a definitive measure of how well a device will perform in real-world usage. That being said, our Geekbench scores show us that the single-core score is higher than expected at 1594, while the multicore score is slightly lower than expected at 39.23 versus 41.54. This suggests that the device's performance may be better in certain tasks and applications, but not necessarily overall.

**Battery Life**

As for battery life, it's difficult to say whether this will change significantly with future betas or when the final version of iOS is released. In beta 7, we saw similar battery life to beta 6, so it's likely that battery life won't see a significant improvement with these latest betas. However, Apple has introduced a new feature called "battery recalibration" in iOS 14.5, which may affect battery life for iPhone 11 series devices. It's worth noting that this feature is still being tested and may not be fully optimized yet.

**Community Poll**

Due to feedback from the community, I've decided to stop doing weekly community polls on these videos. Instead, I'd like you to leave a comment below with any issues you've encountered or simply let me know if beta 8 has been good for you. This will help me gauge whether the changes in the latest beta are having the desired effect and allow me to make informed decisions about future updates.

**iOS 14.5 RC and Final Release**

The iOS 14.5 release candidate (RC) is expected to be released on Tuesday, April 20th, during Apple's upcoming event. This means that we can expect the final version of iOS 14.5 to follow shortly after. According to reports from Bloomberg, there is a possibility that the RC may be released later in the week, but it seems likely that it will come out on the day of the event.

Mark German, a well-respected source for Apple-related news and information, has stated that he expects the final version of iOS 14.5 to be released on the same day as the RC, possibly even just hours after its release. This would mean that we can expect the final version of iOS 14.5 to be released sometime between April 20th and April 22nd.

It's worth noting that Apple typically doesn't wait until the last minute to release major software updates like iOS 14.5, so it's likely that we'll see a relatively quick turnaround time between the RC and final release.

**Final Thoughts**

Overall, it seems likely that we'll be seeing iOS 14.5 released to the public within the next week or two. This is exciting news for developers who are eager to get their hands on the latest version of iOS, but also frustrating for those who have been waiting months for a more polished and stable release.

As always, I appreciate your feedback and support. If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up and stay tuned for my upcoming Apple April event video, where we'll be discussing all the exciting news and announcements that are likely to come out of the event.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys my name is brandon and today apple made history with the release of ios 14.5 beta 8 which was just pushed out to register developers and soon to public beta testers and as i mentioned on twitter this release marks the first time ever that apple has released eight betas for non-major ios versions like ios 14.0 13.0 the first version when a new ios version is introduced was the only time ever where we had eight betas so just crazy but at least now we know when the final release will be coming and we'll talk about that near the end of this video now in addition to ios we also got ipad os 14.5 beta 8 mac os big sur 11.3 beta 8 and that's it we did not get any watch os or tv os updates at least not yet but those should be out sometime later but of course in this video we're talking all about ios and ipad os 14.5 beta 8 and of course when the final version is coming so let's start off with the size of this update and you can see here as usual as you know the past like few betas have been this update is very small so it came in at 125.7 megabytes on my iphone 12 and that size was small for every single device it was 100 something megabytes for every device i downloaded it on which is to be expected for an eighth beta which again is a record for a point release now if we go into the settings to check out the build number for this update settings general about 14.5 you can see the build number there is 18e 5199a so we do have an a at the end of the build number which again it's been like that for many betas now so maybe time to stop mentioning that that could be you know could mean it's close to a final release because that's just not the case that has not been the case with 14.5 on these beta so kind of crazy once again but if we go down a little bit further to the modem firmware you can see it's still at 1.62.11 so not expecting that to change until probably the rc build so now what's new here in beta 8 and as i said in my beta 7 video this is mainly going to be a final bug fix update especially after getting those two major features in beta 6 and still facing issues in beta 7 which i did talk about in my follow-up video over the weekend now with that being said i did notice one thing here in beta 7 and this isn't necessarily just beta seven but just ios 14.5 in general i've been noticing a lot more things show up on the map regarding the new reporting features so like a speed trap construction and of course accidents so you can see the accident here this is new where it shows you know last updated and things like that you can mark it as still here or cleared just like you can in ways so a lot of the ways like features are starting to populate more in the maps application because i guess more people are on the 14.5 beta now so i've still yet to see anything for speed checks again i don't know if this is a regulation thing but when you mark a speed trapper when you see a cop on the road and you report it using the new ios 14.5 reporting feature it just simply doesn't show up on the map and again i don't know if that's a bug or a regulatory thing i'm not sure but that is something i noticed here in beta 7 as well another thing i noticed in beta 8 is if i go to my privacy and then to my tracking you can see that my app tracking transparency feature has been grayed out again here in beta 8. so i showed you guys in my beta 7 video how to get this working again you just simply have to sign out of icloud and sign back in and then this feature gets enabled you know it should be enabled by default but some people including myself have had this grayed out for the entire 14.5 beta cycle i mean since beta won so if you sign out of icloud and sign back in it will turn this back on you get the little pop-ups in the applications but for whatever reason after i update it to beta 8 it's grayed out again so not too sure what's going on there but hopefully that is fixed in the rc build now another thing i mentioned in my beta 7 video is that the new siri voices have some really weird tones sometimes so if we go to syrian search here and then siri voice of course these two new voices right here voice two and three are new ever since the introduction in beta six so we've only had you know one beta really to fix up these voices and really just to have them polished but in beta 7 you could definitely tell that they were not polished because sometimes when you would say things the siri voice would just sound very weird and it would not sound like the voice at all i faced this numerous times when i asked siri to tell me a joke or just ask a random thing just to test out these two new voices but here in beta 8 i've been asking the same things i've been asking jokes and it seems like it's just a lot more polished now i know it's a lot of ai and it takes time to build up and start pronouncing things correctly and not super fast but it does seem a lot better here in bit a because i've not had any of those weird voices or just weird pronunciations so far so that's pretty much everything when it comes to changes here in beta 8 i mean you can't really expect too much from an 8th beta here you're not going to see any physical changes or features here in this late of a beta update for a point release now also today apple announced an april event and this is going to take place on 4 20. 4 20 we are going to see an april event called spring loaded so it says please join us for a special apple event from apple park watch it online at apple.com and you can see there it's at the typical time 10 pacific or 1 p.m eastern standard time i will be going live here on youtube to talk about everything that gets announced and we are expecting to see new ipad pros air tags airpods possibly a new apple tv possibly a new imac we'll talk more about that i do have a video coming later today as well to go over everything we are expecting to see at this update and kind of the likelihood of seeing certain products as well i also wanted to talk about the bug fixes here in 14.5 as well and kind of some remaining bugs as well now one thing i noticed is that the music cue has been solved pretty much you know now permanently i have not seen this one time on beta 7 or beta 8 and that is of course when you go to an album and you just press on shuffle and the top song is just simply not able to be moved if i go to shuffle right here then i go to the queue the top song right there would not have the three lines and it would not be able to move it but that appears to be fixed now finally and 14.5 beta 8. it was there in beta 7 as well it was fixed in beta 7 for me but some people reported that it was still there so hopefully it is fixed for everybody here and at beta 8. also in beta 8 at least in my initial testing i have not had any loud notifications so no unusual loud notifications here in beta 8 so it appears that that might also be fixed here in this update now as far as remaining bugs i still do have issues playing music on the homepod via airplay so if i go to airplay the music to a homepod it is still very slow and very laggy and very buggy overall so hopefully that does get fixed i'm imagining at this point it'll only be fixed in ius 15 and then also green tint i always have to talk about this because everybody always asks i've not seen any reports of green tents being fixed in this update so i would not expect a fix for that unfortunately and then when it comes to the ipad nothing is different on ipad os versus ios in this update so anyways now let's talk about the performance so compared to beta 7 i haven't really noticed any difference here in beta 8 i mean i just expect this build to kind of polish up everything that was wrong in beta 7 which there wasn't a ton but just some of the minor bugs that i mentioned seem to be fixed up here in beta 8. and if we go to the geekbench scores here to see our scores you can see up top we did get a higher single core so we got a 1594 versus a 1591 but the multicore is slightly lower at 39.23 versus 41.54 now again these scores you know take them all with a grain of salt just because this doesn't really you know imply your day-to-day usage or how you use your phone on a day-to-day basis it's just a benchmark so it doesn't really tell you the whole story but once again as i always say it's fun to kind of look at the scores and see how they all compare to one another now as far as the battery life goes it's too early to tell if battery life is any better here in beta 8 but in beta 7 it was the same as beta 6 and i would expect the same here in beta 8. the final we may see a slight bump to the battery life but don't expect too much we do also have the battery recalibration feature here in 14.5 for the iphone 11 series so if you do have an iphone 11 series your battery life might just be a little bit worse going through these final few betas until that recalibration actually works you know actually calibrates recalibrates your battery so if you are having issues on the iphone 11 series it could just be because of that new feature also i did want to make a quick note that i will not be doing a community poll this week because a lot of you guys have expressed that it's kind of getting repetitive so just instead of you know responding in that community poll that i usually do every week just come back to this video and leave a comment with any issues you have or just say you know or if you just want to say that beta 8 has been really good you've had good battery life just come back to this video and tell me that here because i will not be doing a community poll like i usually do every week all right so now let's talk about 14.5 rc and the final build when we can expect that now ios 14.5 the rc the release candidate build which is the final version for developers i'm actually expecting that on tuesday when the apple event starts now there is also the possibility of seeing the rc later this week like on thursday or friday the 15th or 16th however bloomberg added this in the final paragraph of one of their reports today quote at the event apple is also likely to announce the release date of ios 14.5 so if the final will likely get a release date at the event that means rc could be coming on the day of the event on 4 20 tuesday right here so if we get the rc on tuesday that means that we could see the final release of 14.5 on either the 21st or the 22nd a wednesday or a thursday there i just have a hard time believing that apple is going to wait until the final week of april to release 14.5 i think it comes out a day or two possibly even three on the friday but i think on wednesday or thursday the 21st or 22nd is a very good likelihood of seeing ios 14.5 released to the general public so before i said that the final could come on the date of the event but after i read this bloomberg article from mark german who has been extremely accurate with everything they pretty much say in those articles i kind of changed to and i'm kind of siding with mark german and bloomberg here for a release date on the day of the event and then the final a few days after so yeah that's when we can expect the 14.5 final finally i mean it's been months of beta testing i'm sure you guys are kind of tired at this point of it i mean there's one side where it's like yes you want a more polished version but at the same time it's kind of getting old i mean getting all these betas and not having a final release is getting kind of old especially if you're on 14.4.2 and you just didn't want to go through the beta stages but you're really looking forward to these features it seems like it's taking forever so anyways guys there you have it that is ios 14.5 beta 8. i always do these update videos no matter how big or large they are if you guys enjoyed that i would appreciate if you gave this video a thumbs up and of course stay tuned later for my apple april event video where i'm going to talk about what you can expect to see there but anyways guys thanks again for watching and i'll see you soon youwhat's up guys my name is
