Emmy Eats Texas - tasting Texan snacks & sweets

**A Taste of Texas: A Culinary Journey**

As I sat down to enjoy the treats sent by Melissa and Lucia, I couldn't help but feel excited about the culinary journey that lay ahead. The first item on my plate was a bag of nuts, carefully curated from Austin, Texas. "These are jalapeno seasoned cashews," Melissa explained, "and they're infused with a lovely chili flavor." I was intrigued by the idea of spicy cashews and couldn't wait to take a bite.

The cashews were indeed delicious, with a rich, nutty flavor that complemented the subtle kick from the jalapeno. I loved how the spices blended together to create a unique taste experience that was both spicy and sweet. As I munched on the cashews, I couldn't help but wonder what other treats Melissa and Lucia had in store for me.

Next up were some dry roasted almonds seasoned with green chili. These were a nice change of pace from the spicier cashews, offering a more subtle flavor profile that still packed a punch. While they didn't have as much heat as the jalapeno cashews, they retained a lovely smoky taste that was reminiscent of traditional almond flavors.

After my nut-filled interlude, I turned my attention to the oatmeal packets. "I'm trying to see if I can taste the bacon," Melissa said with a grin, and I couldn't help but feel curious about this unusual flavor combination. As I added hot water to the packet and waited for it to reconstitute, I wondered what kind of smoky, savory goodness lay within.

The result was surprisingly good – the oatmeal had taken on a rich, meaty flavor that was unmistakably bacon-like, if not exactly identical to true bacon. It was like a flavor essence had been distilled into this little packet, and it worked beautifully. I appreciated how subtle the smokiness was, adding depth without overpowering the other flavors.

As I continued my snacking journey, I encountered some delightful snacks from 1885, including Texas Chewy Pecan Praline candies. These were pure indulgence – chewy, caramel-filled morsels packed with plenty of crunchy pecans. Each bite was like a little taste explosion in my mouth, and I couldn't help but feel a deep affection for these sweet treats.

Finally, it was time to try some Dr Pepper from the iconic Texas company. "It's been a long time since I've had this," Melissa said with a smile, and I felt a sense of excitement about exploring a new flavor profile. The result was surprisingly pleasant – while not my favorite soda, I appreciated how the sugar gave it a richer, more pronounced taste than high fructose corn syrup.

To wrap up my Texas-themed snack fest, I ended with a packet of Fritos Chili Cheese chips. These were a fun twist on the classic flavor combination, and while they were decidedly salty (I'd say that's an understatement!), I appreciated how the spices and cheese added depth to each bite.

have nice and roasted then the outside is a really thick sugary coating of yumminess that coating is actually quite complementary to the nut itself sweet and buttery to be honest a little bit too sweet for my palette but still delicious okay for our next selection of nuts we have some cashews these are jalapeno seasoned cashews and they come from austin wow those are great i love cashews in the first place they're beautiful nut they're very rich and have a really nice kind of crunch to them a bit like a macadamia nut nice and kind of fatty like that but these are infused with jalapeno flavor to it these also come from austin as well and these are almonds dry roasted almonds and these are seasoned with green chili yum let's see if there's a difference between the jalapeno and green jelly here we go itadakimasu a little bit of chili flavor but not nearly as much as a jalapeno and in terms of heat maybe just a tiny amount not really spicy at all those are okay these taste more like dry roasted almonds you know like that like the blue diamond almonds something like that but not smoked of course let's see how our oatmeal is doing and the oatmeal has reconstituted and is getting nice and thick itadakimasu i'm trying to see if i can taste them bacon i can but it's not really like true bacon it's more of like a smoked flavor it's like bacon bit essence mixed with mrs butterworth that's actually pretty good it's pretty sweet but most of these instant oatmeals tend to be so yeah it's kind of par for the course but i like it i think i would choose this over apple cinnamon any day this is great for sealing open bags of chips like this fritos is made by the latest company and they're a corn chip the usual version is just a salted version this is the chili cheese so let's give that a taste here we go wow very salty this is what the chips look like up close so like little strips salty a little bit of a chili flavor and i don't taste much cheese but to be honest a little bit too salty for my taste this is dr pepper a very popular soda that you can find here in the states but what makes this special is this is made with imperial sugar most sodas here in the states are made with high fructose corn syrup and from what melissa tells me this is made with imperial sugar which comes from plano texas prior to 2012 dublin dr pepper was the only dr pepper still made with sugar since 1891 i'll have to be honest and say i'm not a huge fan of dr pepper but or sodas in general actually besides coke i love coke but i'm going to give this a taste anyways it's been a very long time a little bit spearminty a little bit clovy anyways and here it is kanpai hmm it's not bad it's not my favorite it tastes a little bit like root beer to me i feel like the flavor is more pronounced than the dr pepper because of the sugar maybe but it tastes a little bit like fruit bear a little bit like sarsaparilla mixed with coke this is called a texas chewy pecan praline yes i love everything about that it's from 1885 that looks scrumptious looks like a caramel with pecans in it yes that is a delicious candy it's chewy but not sticky full of caramel goodness and packed with
