The Review: Cherry MX Switch Keyboard and Razer DeathAdder Elite Mouse
As I unboxed my new keyboard and mouse, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and skepticism. The keyboard, from Cherry MX, had caught my attention with its sleek design and promise of precision and stability. The mouse, the Razer DeathAdder Elite, was also intriguing, with its curved design and advanced features.
Upon first glance, the keyboard's solid metal plate in the keyboard for maximum stability did impress me. I gently tried to bend it, but it wouldn't budge. This, combined with the scissor mechanism and precise sensor with resolution adjustability in three stages up to 2400 dpi, had me eager to put it through its paces. The cable, at a decent 1.2 meters, was also a nice touch, allowing for easy setup and use.
However, one potential drawback did catch my attention: the single cable for charging both devices. While I acknowledged that the chance of both devices running out of battery at the same time is highly unlikely, it would have been nice to have two cables. Nevertheless, I was excited to dive in and explore the features of each device.
Let's take a closer look at the mouse. The curved design should provide a comfortable fit for my hand, and the two buttons on top are all one piece – no split. This will likely reduce wear and tear over time. The DPI button is also notable, as it changes color depending on what mode it is in (e.g., Bluetooth). Additionally, the rubberized wheel is designed to be quieter and more comfortable.
The textured grip and forward and backward buttons are also well-designed, with programmable options available for most of the functions. On the back, I found a nano receiver that tucks neatly away, secured by a magnetic grip – which should help prevent it from getting lost. The three settings for the button (off, RF, and Bluetooth) are also convenient to access.
Moving on to the keyboard, its low-profile design with scissor switches is a major selling point. This will likely result in a quieter typing experience compared to other mechanical keyboards. I was pleased to find that the caps lock, scroll lock, and num lock all have backlighting options – which adds a touch of elegance to the overall design.
The keyboard's durable plastic exterior gives way to a solid metal plate within, providing maximum stability and durability. The outside shroud is also made from a durable material, while the inside has been reinforced with a metal plate for added protection. I was able to test its strength by trying to bend it – it withstood my attempts.
The feet on the bottom of the keyboard are also designed to prevent slipping, featuring eight rubberized pads (four on each side). This will help keep the device stable and secure on various surfaces. The magnetic riser that comes with the keyboard is a nice touch, providing an additional surface for supporting it and reducing wear on its rubberized feet.
When I placed the magnetic riser onto the keyboard, I was pleased to find that it didn't compromise the performance or feel of the device. In fact, it seemed to enhance its stability and traction – almost skid-resistant.
To test the microphone quality, I placed it 20 centimeters away from a selection of keys on the keyboard (enter, space bar, caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock) as well as the mouse's DPI button and wheel. The results were impressive: clear and crisp sound emanated from each key press.
Next, I tested the microphone with the mouse, placing it 20 centimeters away from the tip of the device. Another excellent test showed that the sound quality was exceptional – smooth and quiet, even with fast scrolling or clicking.
In conclusion, my experience with these devices has been overwhelmingly positive. The keyboard's precision and stability have impressed me, while the mouse's design and features have exceeded my expectations. While there are a few minor drawbacks (such as the single cable for charging), they do not detract from the overall quality of these products.
If you're in the market for a new keyboard or mouse, I highly recommend considering these options. The Cherry MX Switch Keyboard is an excellent choice for those seeking precision and stability, while the Razer DeathAdder Elite Mouse offers advanced features and a comfortable design. With proper care, both devices will provide years of reliable service – and I would definitely consider purchasing them again.
