**Porsche 911 GT3 vs Mercedes-AMG GT R: A Comparative Analysis**
The Porsche 911 GT3 and the Mercedes-AMG GT R are two high-performance sports cars that share some similarities, but also have their own unique characteristics. In this article, we'll delve into the details of both cars, exploring their performance, features, and overall driving experience.
**Performance Comparison**
When it comes to performance, both cars are impressive in their own right. The Porsche 911 GT3 has a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter engine that produces 500 horsepower, while the Mercedes-AMG GT R boasts a turbocharged 4.0-liter engine that pumps out 510 horsepower. However, the GT3's engine is positioned in the front of the car, which gives it a slightly different handling dynamics compared to the GT R's mid-mounted engine.
"I've intentionally parked the two cars here nose to nose just because I want to show you something quite specific about the widths of them," says our host. "If we just come round to the left side of the car, you can see that more or less they are lined up completely evenly down the left-hand side." However, when looking at the width of the cars, it becomes clear that the GT R is significantly wider than the GT3. The GT R's body is 16 centimeters wider, and its rear end is also 20 centimeters wider than its front end.
**Handling and Braking**
One area where the GT3 excels is in handling and braking. "The gt3 has a 90 liter fuel tank it is also the more efficient car so you can basically drive that thing and never have to fill it up you are never the one on a road trip who has to put fuel in the car," says our host. Additionally, the GT3's front end provides a slightly tighter turning radius than the GT R's, making it more agile around corners.
**Ride Comfort**
However, the GT3 is also less comfortable and practical than the GT R. "The gt3 feels like a supercar it has that turn in the front end feel the sensation when you're driving it the precision nature of it but on a long drive it's a little bit uncomfortable and impractical and awkward," our host observes. In contrast, the GT R is designed to be more comfortable and practical, with better seats, more luggage space, and an updated infotainment system.
**Technology and Features**
When it comes to technology and features, both cars offer a range of upgrades and options. The GT R has an out-of-date infotainment system, while the GT3 boasts a brand-new system from Porsche. Both cars also have upgraded sound systems, with Bose and Burmester as options.
**Driving Experience**
So, what does it feel like to drive both cars? Our host puts them side by side: "I've been driving the two cars every day, and I love the excitement of taking a supercar on a long distance road trip or drive. When you get to the other end, it's still being so fantastically exciting." Ultimately, the choice between the GT3 and GT R comes down to what you want to use the car for. If you're looking for a raw sports car experience, the GT3 is the better choice. But if you want a more practical and comfortable supercar for long drives, the GT R is the way to go.
**Conclusion**
In conclusion, both the Porsche 911 GT3 and the Mercedes-AMG GT R are exceptional high-performance sports cars that offer unique experiences behind the wheel. While they share some similarities, their differences in handling, braking, ride comfort, technology, and features make them suited for different types of driving. Whether you're a track enthusiast or a long-distance road tripper, both cars have something to offer.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi guys i'm shmee hello to you welcome back to the channel now today i'm going to answer a question that a lot of you guys have been asking me which of my two latest acquisitions do i prefer is it the mercedes amg gtr or the porsche 911 gt3 now today as we make our way down towards italy we're going to take both cars out for a run on the autobahn and then tomorrow at the end of this video we'll be driving through the mountains to make a decision as to which one it's going to be let's get started taking a look around the two cars that serve a very similar purpose but do it in incredibly different ways it's the gtr versus the gt3 there are many reasons why these two cars make for a very interesting comparison and no doubt you think exactly the same but for me to make a choice later on and pick a preference between the two is almost going to be like choosing between two children how do you decide which of the cars that you love driving is the better choice we'll get to that in a bit so stay tuned but to get us started let's take a walk around and talk about some of the similarities and differences between the two cars from stuttgart the 911 gt3 and the amg gtr so as i just said both cars come from around the corner to one another porsche based in zuffenhausen mercedes in sindelfingen with the engine that comes from amg in a falter back they're both the track focused variants of their respective base models so the gt3 comes from the 911 the gtr comes from the amg gt in both cases there's a future variant potentially to come i think the 911 gt3 rs of course is already announced and possibly in the future there might be a black series or equivalent based on the amg gtr i've owned the gtr for five months i've already done 15 000 kilometers in it i just cannot stop driving this car most recently it's been updated to the rentec specification so nearly 700 horsepower but for the purposes of this video we will consider that it is the stock regular 585 horsepower version the 911 gt3 collected just a few weeks ago but already done 2 000 kilometers including a good number of laps on the nurburgring nordschleifer there are many fond memories with both cars i collected the gtr with nico rosberg i was flown into porsche centrum amsterdam to collect the gt3 by helicopter but let's talk a bit about the powertrains and the setups of them the engines are in different places a front mid engine here the four liter bi-turbo v8 is front mid-engined connected to a seven-speed double clutch we also have a seven-speed double clutch in the gt3 but as is tradition with the 911 the engine hangs out over the back the four-liter naturally aspirated engine so we've got an n a we've got a twin turbo both with similar gearboxes but very different ways of going about four liter engines 500 horsepower and the gt3 performance wise they're actually very similar their nurburgring lap times are just two seconds apart although the gtr just taking the win in terms of what's been reported to date price tags is an interesting one the prices are almost spot on one to the other within a thousand pounds of each other admittedly the gt3 has a higher specification the pts gelbrune paintwork along with the sport chrono pack the club support harnesses and roll cage and all that side of things whereas the gtr is more configured as a road car premium specification although still has the bucket seats because i particularly like the bucket seats that mercedes and amg offer in that car so there are the similarities they're both track cars they cost the same price but they do this in such a different style if we come round to the back both cars wear a wing at the rear they're both rear-wheel drive another pretty important i suppose significance here the gt3 is my left-hand drive car registered now on a new number place if you've been following my recent videos you'll know about the mishap that happened with my original plate but you might spot what that is intended to read if we come over to the amg gtr which with its black paint work is looking rather dirty right at the moment it wears the shme number plate from the uk with the 67 the year mercedes amg was founded but again we've got a rear wing we've got rear wheel steering on both cars similar technologies in that respect so it's a fascinating i suppose comparison most people i guess would have one or the other but we're going to get to go out and drive them both right now to decide which it's going to be so i've got to choose now between the two cars ready for the autobahn leg with the setting sun for the evening which i would like to drive first and you know what i think it's going to be the newer car first 911 gt3 so let's jump in and talk a little bit about what the gt3 is like at speed on the autobahn we are now autobahning down towards the south of germany and there is a horrific traffic jam to my left but let's talk about gt3 and i'm wearing the three-point seat belt i could be wearing the six-point harnesses that are fitted to this car but we're obviously not on a race track and they rather restrict your movement but i have driven this car a few times now all of the track i've got the exhaust button pressed so we get a little bit more sound out of it and we've got the gear stick to the left to make manual shifting it's always more fun although you could have a manual shifter this car can come with a six-speed manual instead of a 7-speed pdk if you have the pdk you can put it into a sport mode you can make the suspension firm but there aren't that many settings to change because basically it's set up for the track from the very beginning the noise though the spine tingling sound of this flat six when you rev it up and it goes all the way to 9000 this is about eight thousand eight and a half thousand before i have to lift off you just feel it all the way through you it is the absolute best signature feature of this car the naturally aspirated flat 6 porsche engine it is an incredible thing it is an epic thing a sensational sound third there we go shifting at the red line it's not the fastest 500 horsepower you could have more out of a gt3 but it feels so good it's a precision tool there is maximum sensitivity to the throttle pedal the brake pedal the steering is precise and heavy you feel an exactness from the movements from the inputs yes that does mean it's very very over sensitive at high speed let's stay here on the autobahn for example when you're driving along you feel it's very twitchy it gets a little bit uncomfortable when you're driving it quickly and getting up towards 300 kilometers an hour is almost a little bit of a stretch for the car but put the foot down now as it becomes empty build up the speed just listen to this just absolutely magical my goodness let's hope we can pull past in a second and continue our journey what else can i tell you though it feels very small it's a small car to drive which will certainly help it when we get towards the mountain roads as well when you have upcoming cars and some very small just the sound of the rest building up i mean i'm not saying it's slow don't get me wrong it's the speed that it can carry through corners from the arrow on the autobahn though it's a little bit too poor and too fidgety now as much as i love this and the sound of it you certainly feel that it's bouncing around a lot you're concentrating you're having to work it that means as a daily car as a daily usable car you know half the point of these the reason they're wearing number plates is that you do want to drive them on the road these are daily cars it is a bit old twitchy side the seats are very firm the backs are very very straight you have some electrical electronic adjustment uh vertically you can lift the seat and lower it the steering wheel doesn't have any controls or commands and the navigation entertainment side of things is very good oh it's opened up in front of us the way we go to catch up again with the gtr but i would say from an everyday usability point of view it's not necessarily the best the lots of the shifts the high revs just awesome that was well over 250 there not exactly a slouch is it anyway we'll talk a little bit more about it when we get back in but now i think i should hop over to the amg gtr to really push on down the autobahn the amg gtr then and i think you probably know by now quite how much i like this car it is a grand tourer but a particularly hardcore fast grand tourer so i'm going to turn it up into individual now this is not going to be about the rentec modifications to this the car is very fast however you have it configured but as you know we do have this so we might as well enjoy it the sheer noise that it makes but it's the rate at which it picks up speed the ferociousness of it so individual mode lets you configure and customize a number of different settings the car has a toggle to go through your different drive modes comfort sport sport plus race mode or individual individual i have set up with softer suspension but everything else in the track hardcore focus mode so loud exhaust um aggressive throttle nothing else comes close to that but then you put your word down goes up to 7000 rpm stock is just a smidge underneath seven thousand at the cracks in the tunnel but it is so so so fast now you feel like you're sat right back on the rear axle of the car you've got a giant enormous bonnet house in front of you which does actually make daily drivability quite awkward because the car is well not only that but fantastically wide as well it is a hugely wide car it's 16 centimeters wider than the gt3 is on which note i think the gt3 is about to blast past us right now oh yes there it goes so it's a huge cup but it has a good luggage space a good amount of luggage space huge boot because of the way the hatchback opens up so it's great for touring it's great for traveling with decent amounts of things on you it's very comfortable the seats are brilliant i prefer these seats to those found inside the uh gt3 in fact i think this might be my favorite of all of my cars in terms of the seats and what they're like to be satin seventh gear immensely talky especially with the red tech package picking up speed effortlessly and so much of it anyway a lot on the brakes now brakes not quite as good as the porsche's porsche's it moves around a lot but the gtrs don't feel so spot on i think it's quite an out-of-date disc actually that they use on the car so clearly very noisy let's just turn it down to comfort to make it a little bit quieter for a moment think a bit more about the car some funny things you've got this huge center console it's shaped as a v8 which is very very nice it it's a lot of a bit more in terms of technology i think in terms of adaptive cruise control parking sensors the gt3 doesn't have parking sensors so those help with general daily usability of the thing but you can get out of a very long journey in here and feel like you've driven effortlessly the steering is a little bit lighter it's still got good feedback but it's lighter than that's in the gt3 even in comfort mode if we just drop it down some gears and put the foot down a little bit it still goes like like everything you could think about pretty much and we'd get to 300 in no time it's all in here honestly that was up to 280 just like that anyway hard on the brakes downhill into that other car's through and the gt3 pull out in front of us on the autobahns here maybe that's an opportunity to go back into individual drop the gears and do this again addictive addictive is the only word for this up to the red line every shift so what else does this car have it has a ninth stage traction control derived from gt3 cars in the center if you disable uh traction controls you literally can toggle exactly how many degrees of slip you want the car to let you have which is incredibly fun to play with but the thing that's so remarkable to me about the amg gtr is that it is a practical usable everyday car the front is not that low it doesn't bottom out i think i've only touched the front once and that was basically me being silly on a bump that was just too big and i should have taken an angle over it whereas the gt3 needs the lift system to get over things but then you go to a race track and it's so inviting you can just jump in and drive the car maybe it praises the driver too much and that's the difference between them the gt3 requires you to be a better driver this will allow you to get away with not being so on it and make you feel like you're the best driver on the roads but i i just it's the car for me now though when we get to the twisty roads at the other end of this is going to be where i think this becomes a little bit more interesting that's where the gt3 is more in its element the gtr is at home on the auto parts this is the right place to drive this car oh we want to go down more there we go morning to you from the mountains so we had a long drive on the autobahns before crossing through switzerland towards italy where now we are faced by some fantastic views of very blue sky and snow-covered mountains and also the tight twisty mountain roads which are going to be a new challenge for the two cars the gt3 seems to have inherited a citron hubcap if you prefer silver wheels to the cars platinum ones but i think this is where the smaller precise style of the gt3 might accelerate it ahead of the amg gtr however we have both cars ready to be driven let's jump into the porsche and get started at this moment i'd like to talk about quite how awkward getting in and out of this car is the entry and exit process is by far the most fussy of my cars however we have a tunnel right here so exhaust button open window down gearbox to manual first gear and just how good is that how good is this sound absolutely ludicrous anyway let's close the window for a second to go back to getting in and out of the car the seats are very very snug they have very high side bolsters which means you have to climb over them which basically hurts the side of your thighs obviously doing the six-point harness does not make life any easier but if you're driving on a mountain twisty road or if you're driving on a racetrack it's nice to be held very snugly into the seat the seat itself has a very very straight back so carbon bucket seats 918 bucket seats but it means that after a long journey it does get quite exhausting quite tiring so you can see the usability balance or or slight loss of usability that comes in this car obviously gearbox is super smooth we can put it into pdk sport mode we're not going to make the suspension any stiffer because these italian roads are not very smooth but the sport mode will just be more responsive to throttle press and drop down the gears a little bit earlier and obviously hold the gear a little bit longer or manual because obviously mountain road and we want to hear more of the soundtrack and that is just one of the best things about the car the other thing i like about the gt3 an awful lot is the precision of the steering when you turn it in barely any movements of the wheel the front end you just feel that grip there is a lot of mechanical and aerodynamic grip at the front it just turns on a dime and you feel the feedback of it the response of it and it feels very rewarding to drive and then when you open it up and i'm just following the lines here just to get a little bit more more steering input it really really lets you just stick around corners and you feel like it's almost impossible to break out the back end i know i'm short shifting here but i think having fun with a car like this is experiencing the different noises here yeah you go down to first gear let's hear 9000 that sounds absolute spine tingles but the big thing is that the car is small it is nimble it is very precise and when you get to a road like this it's completely in its element getting here though it is a little bit uncomfortable having the cage in the back again hasn't helped the usability because you can only squeeze some soft bags through it obviously a 911 would normally be our seats and we can't squeeze them through in this car but concentrating a bit on the road it will not lose the back end it absolutely is completely stuck down and the chassis rides over these chopped up roads really well without too much drama yeah it could bump around clump around and be really quite annoying but it does the job very very well so when it's in its element the gt3 is fantastic but there are some things about it that don't necessarily make it the easiest car to drive and that is why i'm intrigued now to go and drive the amg gtr on this very piece of tarmac to see exactly how it compares and how well it copes with those bumps as well before we do though one last little run with this just the sound as the revs build the brakes are brilliant the feel is great wow it just winds up another very random thing about the gt3 if you put one of the windows down just one window all the way down at any speed it gets really really buffety in here you have to lower the other one a little bit otherwise it gets very uncomfortable so you don't actually want one window down unless you've got them both down a little bit which is i guess something to do with the way the car is shaped and the way the airflow comes over it but it's a bit of a nuisance that i actually noticed when i'm driving in the car the observant ones amongst you might have noticed that this car has a cracked windscreen and that's a disadvantage of it in that it seems impossible to get a new one however we have the tunnel again so individual noisy mode window down for extra sound drop some gears here oh goodness me i mean this car sounds good even before you add the red tech packages but now it's just ridiculous so let's talk amg gtr then on a road like this it is a much much larger car it is also a car that actually doesn't ride over the harder terrain anywhere nearly as well to be completely honest when it gets jarred you feel a bit bumped around it's hugely wider though which means on here i have to be much more careful of exactly what i'm doing but when you put your foot down all hell unleashes the fury of this car it's so phenomenally quick and then those sounds even if they are slightly artificial so on a road like this i actually already feel like it would have to be the gt3 that you you choose this comes down to all around what you want the car for this gearbox is equally matched in terms of speed comfort is better in here i think i feel more relaxed in these seats than i do in the seats that the gt3 has on the smoother tarmac this is very much back into its own elements rather just concentrating a little bit because what the gtr does is let you drive it so quickly without really having to work very hard whereas the gt3 you have to work so much harder to push on with the car but just pulling out the corners there's less drama because you don't have that spine tingling noise of the sound that the gt3 carries but i'm well aware that the speed is picking up significantly faster steering feel in here is perhaps less connected for sure the ride quality on the smooth stuff in here is much more uh magic carpet-esque the gt3 seems to ride over the more aggressive bumps better what else can we talk about between the two i think this is i i'm so lost at the moment because i'm trying to work out in my own mind how i actually feel about these two cars because i had thought from the autobahn legs that this was an easy win for the gtr but now that i'm driving on here and the gt3 feels so much more at home i'm questioning my own decisions what this car is is an incredible attempt by mercedes and amg to just come along and make something magical porsche have decades of experience with the 911 gt cars whereas this is other than the sls effectively the first or second outing for these guys to put in their take on it and i mean that's up to the red line and the way the speedometer picks up it's also very playful this car is substantially more playful because of the positioning of the engine you don't have that safety safety safety snap that the 911 has you have this huge margin uh at where at the point of which it's going to start misbehaving obviously if we toggle the traction control a little bit we'd be able to stick them back out with an absolute ease i can tell you from experience in this thing so my goodness 911 gt3 versus amg gtr they cost the same they do the same i think they have about the same image the same brand level so to speak in this category i'm gonna have to take a second to actually think about this i've intentionally parked the two cars here nose to nose just because i want to show you something quite specific about the widths of them so if we just come round to the left side of the car you can see that more or less they are lined up completely evenly down the left-hand side come to the right though and just look how much wider the gtr is than the gt3 like i said the body is 16 centimeters wider but also the gt3 is wider at the back than it is at the front which must mean it's about 20 centimeters difference front to front of the two cars but to whistle over some thoughts and feedback just as it comes to my mind right now so the gt3 has a 90 liter fuel tank it is also the more efficient car so you can basically drive that thing and never have to fill it up you are never the one on a road trip who has to put fuel in the car you can also put in tons of laps on a race circuit so that is very very helpful that's an optional upgrade from the standard 64 liter tank sound wise a bit of a an even stevens i think on that front the v8 by turbo and the amg the flat 6 naturally aspirated engine in the 911. if you talk about what they're really for the gt3 is the more compliant ride the better steering the better brakes but it's the less comfortable practical car the gt-r has more luggage space better seats i think in terms of technology the slightly out of date system in the gtr is rather frustrating whereas the 911 has a brand new system from porsche sound systems they've both got the upgraded options so they sound very good on that front the bose and the burmester but the gtr is really that super grand tourer it is very much gt dialed up comfortable easy to drive very very fast easy winner for the autobahn the gt3 feels like a supercar it has that turn in the front end feel the sensation when you're driving it the precision nature of it but on a long drive it's a little bit uncomfortable and impractical and awkward and i guess you'd get more tired quickly so between these two honestly it comes down to what you want to use the car for if you're going to be driving the mountain roads that if you're going to be driving the motorways that if you're going to be driving on a race track that if you're going to be driving every day to the shops that how do you choose between the gt-r and the gt3 well i'm going to say this from how i drive the cars and what i use them for because i do some pretty serious mileage as you've seen this car now has 15 and a half thousand kilometers on it i drive the cars every day i like the excitement of taking a supercar on a long distance road trip or drive and when you get to the other end it's still being so fantastically exciting so for me if i could only have one of the two i'm gonna pick between the children here the amg gtr however the gt3 in its environment like those roads i've just been driving is easily the better car so it's down to what a person wants i think if somebody wants the proper raw sports car baby supercar experience from something it would have to be the gt3 but like i said for me i love the autobahn drives i love just going on a long journey i love throwing stuff in the boot and then it's gtr what an interesting test though i feel very lucky to be able to own and experience both of the cars and take them out on drives like this but i hope you've enjoyed hearing i guess a little bit of an owner's perspective back to back of the two and how they compare so thank you very much for watching as always guys i really appreciate your support that is it for this time though i will be sure to catch up with you again very very soon cheers youhi guys i'm shmee hello to you welcome back to the channel now today i'm going to answer a question that a lot of you guys have been asking me which of my two latest acquisitions do i prefer is it the mercedes amg gtr or the speed that it can carry through corners from the arrow on the autobahn though it's a little bit too poor and too fidgety now as much as i love this and the sound of it you certainly feel that it's bouncing around a lot you're concentrating you're having to work it that means as a daily car as a daily usable car you know half the point of these the reason they're wearing number plates is that you do want to drive them on the road these are daily cars it is a bit old twitchy side the seats are very firm the backs are very very straight you have some electrical electronic adjustment uh vertically you can lift the seat and lower it the steering wheel doesn't have any controls or commands and the navigation entertainment side of things is very good oh it's opened up in front of us the way we go to catch up again with the gtr but i would say from an everyday usability point of view it's not necessarily the best the lots of the shifts the high revs just awesome that was well over 250 there not exactly a slouch is it anyway we'll talk a little bit more about it when we get back in but now i think i should hop over to the amg gtr to really push on down the autobahn the amg gtr then and i think you probably know by now quite how much i like this car it is a grand tourer but a particularly hardcore fast grand tourer so i'm going to turn it up into individual now this is not going to be about the rentec modifications to this the car is very fast however you have it configured but as you know we do have this so we might as well enjoy it the sheer noise that it makes but it's the rate at which it picks up speed the ferociousness of it so individual mode lets you configure and customize a number of different settings the car has a toggle to go through your different drive modes comfort sport sport plus race mode or individual individual i have set up with softer suspension but everything else in the track hardcore focus mode so loud exhaust um aggressive throttle nothing else comes close to that but then you put your word down goes up to 7000 rpm stock is just a smidge underneath seven thousand at the cracks in the tunnel but it is so so so fast now you feel like you're sat right back on the rear axle of the car you've got a giant enormous bonnet house in front of you which does actually make daily drivability quite awkward because the car is well not only that but fantastically wide as well it is a hugely wide car it's 16 centimeters wider than the gt3 is on which note i think the gt3 is about to blast past us right now oh yes there it goes so it's a huge cup but it has a good luggage space a good amount of luggage space huge boot because of the way the hatchback opens up so it's great for touring it's great for traveling with decent amounts of things on you it's very comfortable the seats are brilliant i prefer these seats to those found inside the uh gt3 in fact i think this might be my favorite of all of my cars in terms of the seats and what they're like to be satin seventh gear immensely talky especially with the red tech package picking up speed effortlessly and so much of it anyway a lot on the brakes now brakes not quite as good as the porsche's porsche's it moves around a lot but the gtrs don't feel so spot on i think it's quite an out-of-date disc actually that they use on the car so clearly very noisy let's just turn it down to comfort to make it a little bit quieter for a moment think a bit more about the car some funny things you've got this huge center console it's shaped as a v8 which is very very nice it it's a lot of a bit more in terms of technology i think in terms of adaptive cruise control parking sensors the gt3 doesn't have parking sensors so those help with general daily usability of the thing but you can get out of a very long journey in here and feel like you've driven effortlessly the steering is a little bit lighter it's still got good feedback but it's lighter than that's in the gt3 even in comfort mode if we just drop it down some gears and put the foot down a little bit it still goes like like everything you could think about pretty much and we'd get to 300 in no time it's all in here honestly that was up to 280 just like that anyway hard on the brakes downhill into that other car's through and the gt3 pull out in front of us on the autobahns here maybe that's an opportunity to go back into individual drop the gears and do this again addictive addictive is the only word for this up to the red line every shift so what else does this car have it has a ninth stage traction control derived from gt3 cars in the center if you disable uh traction controls you literally can toggle exactly how many degrees of slip you want the car to let you have which is incredibly fun to play with but the thing that's so remarkable to me about the amg gtr is that it is a practical usable everyday car the front is not that low it doesn't bottom out i think i've only touched the front once and that was basically me being silly on a bump that was just too big and i should have taken an angle over it whereas the gt3 needs the lift system to get over things but then you go to a race track and it's so inviting you can just jump in and drive the car maybe it praises the driver too much and that's the difference between them the gt3 requires you to be a better driver this will allow you to get away with not being so on it and make you feel like you're the best driver on the roads but i i just it's the car for me now though when we get to the twisty roads at the other end of this is going to be where i think this becomes a little bit more interesting that's where the gt3 is more in its element the gtr is at home on the auto parts this is the right place to drive this car oh we want to go down more there we go morning to you from the mountains so we had a long drive on the autobahns before crossing through switzerland towards italy where now we are faced by some fantastic views of very blue sky and snow-covered mountains and also the tight twisty mountain roads which are going to be a new challenge for the two cars the gt3 seems to have inherited a citron hubcap if you prefer silver wheels to the cars platinum ones but i think this is where the smaller precise style of the gt3 might accelerate it ahead of the amg gtr however we have both cars ready to be driven let's jump into the porsche and get started at this moment i'd like to talk about quite how awkward getting in and out of this car is the entry and exit process is by far the most fussy of my cars however we have a tunnel right here so exhaust button open window down gearbox to manual first gear and just how good is that how good is this sound absolutely ludicrous anyway let's close the window for a second to go back to getting in and out of the car the seats are very very snug they have very high side bolsters which means you have to climb over them which basically hurts the side of your thighs obviously doing the six-point harness does not make life any easier but if you're driving on a mountain twisty road or if you're driving on a racetrack it's nice to be held very snugly into the seat the seat itself has a very very straight back so carbon bucket seats 918 bucket seats but it means that after a long journey it does get quite exhausting quite tiring so you can see the usability balance or or slight loss of usability that comes in this car obviously gearbox is super smooth we can put it into pdk sport mode we're not going to make the suspension any stiffer because these italian roads are not very smooth but the sport mode will just be more responsive to throttle press and drop down the gears a little bit earlier and obviously hold the gear a little bit longer or manual because obviously mountain road and we want to hear more of the soundtrack and that is just one of the best things about the car the other thing i like about the gt3 an awful lot is the precision of the steering when you turn it in barely any movements of the wheel the front end you just feel that grip there is a lot of mechanical and aerodynamic grip at the front it just turns on a dime and you feel the feedback of it the response of it and it feels very rewarding to drive and then when you open it up and i'm just following the lines here just to get a little bit more more steering input it really really lets you just stick around corners and you feel like it's almost impossible to break out the back end i know i'm short shifting here but i think having fun with a car like this is experiencing the different noises here yeah you go down to first gear let's hear 9000 that sounds absolute spine tingles but the big thing is that the car is small it is nimble it is very precise and when you get to a road like this it's completely in its element getting here though it is a little bit uncomfortable having the cage in the back again hasn't helped the usability because you can only squeeze some soft bags through it obviously a 911 would normally be our seats and we can't squeeze them through in this car but concentrating a bit on the road it will not lose the back end it absolutely is completely stuck down and the chassis rides over these chopped up roads really well without too much drama yeah it could bump around clump around and be really quite annoying but it does the job very very well so when it's in its element the gt3 is fantastic but there are some things about it that don't necessarily make it the easiest car to drive and that is why i'm intrigued now to go and drive the amg gtr on this very piece of tarmac to see exactly how it compares and how well it copes with those bumps as well before we do though one last little run with this just the sound as the revs build the brakes are brilliant the feel is great wow it just winds up another very random thing about the gt3 if you put one of the windows down just one window all the way down at any speed it gets really really buffety in here you have to lower the other one a little bit otherwise it gets very uncomfortable so you don't actually want one window down unless you've got them both down a little bit which is i guess something to do with the way the car is shaped and the way the airflow comes over it but it's a bit of a nuisance that i actually noticed when i'm driving in the car the observant ones amongst you might have noticed that this car has a cracked windscreen and that's a disadvantage of it in that it seems impossible to get a new one however we have the tunnel again so individual noisy mode window down for extra sound drop some gears here oh goodness me i mean this car sounds good even before you add the red tech packages but now it's just ridiculous so let's talk amg gtr then on a road like this it is a much much larger car it is also a car that actually doesn't ride over the harder terrain anywhere nearly as well to be completely honest when it gets jarred you feel a bit bumped around it's hugely wider though which means on here i have to be much more careful of exactly what i'm doing but when you put your foot down all hell unleashes the fury of this car it's so phenomenally quick and then those sounds even if they are slightly artificial so on a road like this i actually already feel like it would have to be the gt3 that you you choose this comes down to all around what you want the car for this gearbox is equally matched in terms of speed comfort is better in here i think i feel more relaxed in these seats than i do in the seats that the gt3 has on the smoother tarmac this is very much back into its own elements rather just concentrating a little bit because what the gtr does is let you drive it so quickly without really having to work very hard whereas the gt3 you have to work so much harder to push on with the car but just pulling out the corners there's less drama because you don't have that spine tingling noise of the sound that the gt3 carries but i'm well aware that the speed is picking up significantly faster steering feel in here is perhaps less connected for sure the ride quality on the smooth stuff in here is much more uh magic carpet-esque the gt3 seems to ride over the more aggressive bumps better what else can we talk about between the two i think this is i i'm so lost at the moment because i'm trying to work out in my own mind how i actually feel about these two cars because i had thought from the autobahn legs that this was an easy win for the gtr but now that i'm driving on here and the gt3 feels so much more at home i'm questioning my own decisions what this car is is an incredible attempt by mercedes and amg to just come along and make something magical porsche have decades of experience with the 911 gt cars whereas this is other than the sls effectively the first or second outing for these guys to put in their take on it and i mean that's up to the red line and the way the speedometer picks up it's also very playful this car is substantially more playful because of the positioning of the engine you don't have that safety safety safety snap that the 911 has you have this huge margin uh at where at the point of which it's going to start misbehaving obviously if we toggle the traction control a little bit we'd be able to stick them back out with an absolute ease i can tell you from experience in this thing so my goodness 911 gt3 versus amg gtr they cost the same they do the same i think they have about the same image the same brand level so to speak in this category i'm gonna have to take a second to actually think about this i've intentionally parked the two cars here nose to nose just because i want to show you something quite specific about the widths of them so if we just come round to the left side of the car you can see that more or less they are lined up completely evenly down the left-hand side come to the right though and just look how much wider the gtr is than the gt3 like i said the body is 16 centimeters wider but also the gt3 is wider at the back than it is at the front which must mean it's about 20 centimeters difference front to front of the two cars but to whistle over some thoughts and feedback just as it comes to my mind right now so the gt3 has a 90 liter fuel tank it is also the more efficient car so you can basically drive that thing and never have to fill it up you are never the one on a road trip who has to put fuel in the car you can also put in tons of laps on a race circuit so that is very very helpful that's an optional upgrade from the standard 64 liter tank sound wise a bit of a an even stevens i think on that front the v8 by turbo and the amg the flat 6 naturally aspirated engine in the 911. if you talk about what they're really for the gt3 is the more compliant ride the better steering the better brakes but it's the less comfortable practical car the gt-r has more luggage space better seats i think in terms of technology the slightly out of date system in the gtr is rather frustrating whereas the 911 has a brand new system from porsche sound systems they've both got the upgraded options so they sound very good on that front the bose and the burmester but the gtr is really that super grand tourer it is very much gt dialed up comfortable easy to drive very very fast easy winner for the autobahn the gt3 feels like a supercar it has that turn in the front end feel the sensation when you're driving it the precision nature of it but on a long drive it's a little bit uncomfortable and impractical and awkward and i guess you'd get more tired quickly so between these two honestly it comes down to what you want to use the car for if you're going to be driving the mountain roads that if you're going to be driving the motorways that if you're going to be driving on a race track that if you're going to be driving every day to the shops that how do you choose between the gt-r and the gt3 well i'm going to say this from how i drive the cars and what i use them for because i do some pretty serious mileage as you've seen this car now has 15 and a half thousand kilometers on it i drive the cars every day i like the excitement of taking a supercar on a long distance road trip or drive and when you get to the other end it's still being so fantastically exciting so for me if i could only have one of the two i'm gonna pick between the children here the amg gtr however the gt3 in its environment like those roads i've just been driving is easily the better car so it's down to what a person wants i think if somebody wants the proper raw sports car baby supercar experience from something it would have to be the gt3 but like i said for me i love the autobahn drives i love just going on a long journey i love throwing stuff in the boot and then it's gtr what an interesting test though i feel very lucky to be able to own and experience both of the cars and take them out on drives like this but i hope you've enjoyed hearing i guess a little bit of an owner's perspective back to back of the two and how they compare so thank you very much for watching as always guys i really appreciate your support that is it for this time though i will be sure to catch up with you again very very soon cheers you\n"
