AMD Actually Made a Mountain Bike (It's Terrifying) - Review, Safety Concerns, Test Ride

The AMD Bike: A Review of Quality and Safety Concerns

AMD's latest bike has been making headlines in the cycling community, but unfortunately, it's for all the wrong reasons. The bike's poor quality and safety concerns have left many riders questioning the company's decision to mass-produce this product. In this article, we'll delve into the details of what went wrong with AMD's bike.

The Bike's Design Flaws

AMD's hubris is evident in their design choices, which prioritize complexity over practicality. The bike's microchip technology, while impressive in its own right, doesn't necessarily translate to a well-designed bicycle. The company's decision to incorporate this complex technology into the bike's mechanism has resulted in several design flaws that are concerning for riders.

One of the most significant issues with the bike is the overshifting problem, which can cause the chain to jam up the hub and destroy the wheel. This could potentially injure the rider during a ride, making it a serious safety concern. The bike's poor sizing and fit also contribute to this issue, as the grips are too long for the bars, causing them to overhang and get leveraged off of the bars.

The Rear Shock Coil Problem

Another major issue with the bike is the rear shock coil problem. The coil's adjustment was poorly done, resulting in it blasting off of the piston and resting limply in the frame. This not only damaged the shock hardware but also created a potential safety hazard, as the metal fragments could cause sharp cuts or punctures to the rider.

The Bike's Condition After Use

After using the bike for several hours, we noticed that it developed a crack in the head tube. The crack is visible through the paint and appears to be a weak point, which could lead to a catastrophic failure of the head tube. This type of issue can have serious consequences for riders, including being impaled by the bike.

The Rear Shifter Problem

The rear shifter on this bike is particularly problematic, requiring an inordinate amount of forearm strength to shift gears. It also has a significant latency, requiring 30 seconds of anticipation before it actually shifts. This makes shifting a frustrating and time-consuming process, even for casual riders.

Poor Quality Control

AMD's lack of quality control measures has led to a number of concerns about the bike's safety and performance. Without proper oversight from someone with experience in bicycle design, AMD may have inadvertently created a product that is both poorly designed and potentially hazardous. This highlights the importance of having experienced professionals review and approve products before they go into production.

Conclusion

AMD's latest bike is a prime example of what happens when companies prioritize complexity over practicality. While the company's microchip technology is impressive, it doesn't necessarily translate to a well-designed bicycle. The numerous design flaws, safety concerns, and poor quality control measures make this bike a recipe for disaster.

If you're considering purchasing this bike, we highly recommend looking elsewhere. There are far better options available on the market that offer comparable performance without the risks associated with AMD's latest product. If you do decide to buy one of these bikes, be sure to take it to a skilled mechanic like Cycle Surgeon for a proper build and tune-up.

AMD may not have gotten it right with this bike, but there are other companies out there that can provide better quality and safety features at a similar price point. For the sake of riders' safety, we recommend avoiding this product until AMD improves their design and manufacturing processes.

advertisers or click the link in the description below now as we get into this we need to set some ground rules and expectations andy's mountain bike is listed in exactly one sku for sizing with no customization options other than a couple of color choices it's a 26 inch sized bike for the wheels and the frame is well you'll find out when you get it the bike is 350 shift for us at least and that was domestic only for the us right now and we should be very clear that this bike has almost identical components to some other bikes you may have seen online if you've seen skills with phil or seth spike hacks riding walmart bikes around you'd notice that some of those look pretty similar to what amd has built andy's bike is extremely similar to 150 walmart bikes despite being over two times the shipped cost so this bike is listed as a mountain bike it's listed as being ready for trail riding but of course there are lots of different kinds of trail riding and ultimately you shouldn't take it on any trails for this one this should maybe just only stay on the road if even that and if you do take it on the road you should take it to a shop first for a thorough inspection and proper rebuild because it probably wasn't assembled very well if yours arrives anything like ours did but we're gonna be going through all of that in this review we'll be going through the build some riding and we'll be taking it to my favorite mechanic the cycle surgeon for uh thoughts such as these it may work but it may not work all that well it may compress and spring back but i'm sure they're probably just using a friction damper inside there versus a more sophisticated oil damper so uh the actual function it may compress and extend but that's probably all you can hope for right let's get into assembly so here it is it came in a box that is not rebranded so it is labeled kent and that is the brand that i'm assuming is rebranding it this is in fact as we'll talk about separately in this video basically a walmart bike and it is labeled amb i built a couple mountain bikes but they are all actually good so i i used to do a lot of work on older bikes very similar to this with like v brakes which this has this has got cheap v brakes and those are not going to be able to stop me so that's bad but the pedals i'm going to put my own pedals on because i don't want to die so these are your kind of standard we're going to ride metal flats the pedals i'm putting on here are going to be about 150 and that's going to be for my own safety at this point basically my plan is to build this but replace enough components that i'm not putting myself at too much risk the brakes i can deal with not being able to stop the bike we got to keep some of it the same so it's at least fun and and uh similar to what you're going to be getting so far what i'm seeing though is a really bad bike the stanchions are actually painted and i think they're actually welded into into the top of the fork into the crown we're not really going to have any adjustment on this the stickers are horrible so these are the stickers and the added these to the bike this is their their shining contribution and these are like already coming off you can look at that i can look at what is like come on that's not gonna survive a day outside so i didn't even do just didn't even paint it not even a pinstripe paint it's just a sticker actually the amd logo up here let's get this wheel off and look at that this is the we looked on reddit and saw how our fans will buy and defend anything so let's see how this goes just throw it out to market these stickers are peeling like everywhere i would even as a collector who knew i was getting garbage i would be so disappointed at this like that's that's from how the wheel was held on there i think so first of all sticker is is crooked it's like uh not applied evenly there's a big missing piece right there in the middle the missing piece there oh man seriously i just did that with my fingernail i was trying to wipe off some of the smudges here from whoever built the bike and put the sticker on i was trying to wipe the fingernail the finger print smudges off i slipped and my not that long thumbnail put a scratch and like come on when corsair decides to be a sticker factory at least the sticker is good so some damage there this is so disappointing i haven't even i haven't even gotten on the bike yet and i'm already disappointed and i know that's going to be disappointing there's holes in the welds like that hole right there the inside of the seat tube is rusted man this is so much worse than i thought it's a steel frame bike this is obviously not going to be an aluminum bike at the cost they're selling it for this whole this bike isn't even assembled and without the wheel and some of the other parts it weighs i think about the same as my downhill bike which is a dual crown fork like it's a fox 40 dual crown fork 200 something mil of travel on the front similar in the back downhill bike and it weighs about the same as this thing uh i don't know if that's maybe like a maybe like a two to three inch travel rear shock we're gonna see how that spring sits once i get on the bike i'm a little concerned about uh cracking the frame somewhere but that's definitely the most catastrophic possible failure that could happen oh look at that that's a good that's a nice touch they've got the it's like a a bird has already sat on the bike like it's it's paint oh is it it's actually chipped through it's scratched through the letter there's like basically no grease in here at all so the fork is rusted as well the tube on the fork is rusted i'm assuming the head tube is rusted as well if we were to pull that out i like that the reflector was acting as structural support they don't ask for a size when you order this bike from their website yeah um i'm gonna have to lower the there you got the brake on the tire where it's lined up right now this was not lined up it wasn't even built so we could have at least assembled it to make sure it would assemble especially because this is actually a safety hazard this wheel is out of true i have a truing stand at home but i guess what's the point of buying an out-of-box bike if i'm going to fix it so i think we will just leave it that way i'll get the brakes a little more tuned up so that it clears like that that's pretty good out of true but it's not stopping anymore okay so i'm gonna finish building this i need to do a thrice over on all of the screws to make sure it's safe when done but i want to finish finish building we'll add some basics i don't know i guess i won't do some stuff like like chewing the wheel and chain lube and things like that i'm going to leave that out because that's how they ship the bike yeah i guess we'll stop there for this cut and i'll finish assembling it okay so now we are at cycle surgeon this is the bike shop i go to all the time matt is the best bike tech i've ever worked with so i've worked with a lot of bike techs thank you a lot of mechanics and matt does extremely good detailed work i bring my bike in here bikes over the years and as you know i'll just drop it off and basically be like i don't know find problems like just let me know what you find yeah absolutely gotta look it over yeah so matt's really good at finding problems so first first thing i want to get out of the way is the in in fairness and being uh realistic for everybody if someone actually really wants this bike and really like if you really have your heart set on it because you're amd fan or you're an amd fan or you're an amd fan yeah then go for it don't let us stop you absolutely but uh what do you think just looking at it where do you think this falls in terms of you know intended use stuff absolutely so if if this is a bike that gets you out riding a bike or if you want it for uh your amd gear collection fantastic it's awesome the intended use i would think would be for adolescent transportation it's built with you know heavy steel it's very heavy steel exactly it won't be anything performance oriented uh it'll do a great job though if you wanted to ride to your friend's house or you're going to ride the greenway you want to run to the store to get something to eat or something like that but uh um and if you want something performance though like you should definitely be i mean if you have the budget even if you don't have the budget because 300 yes on a used bike will get you a whole lot more absolutely this bike if you are looking to actually ride a bike don't buy this don't buy this uh what i always try to tell customers with a bike like this is that i will do my best to adjust it but it is built to a level that doesn't allow for very high precision right uh so uh adjusting the brakes so they don't rub truing the wheels so it is straight uh can be a difficult thing even for somebody who's experienced a mechanic for me as a mechanic and and a store owner brakes are a safety thing they've got to be right and if i do nothing else i want to make sure the brakes work when they go out the door but again it can be the the pivots on the brake these brakes are really hard to adjust for me they are hard to adjust period for anybody uh there's a lot of slop in the in the in the pivots right so even if you do adjust them properly they will oftentimes squeal because those pivots vibrate yeah uh so even if i do my job correctly it still doesn't have a very great outcome right what are your thoughts on the fork i've seen some where the lowers will really play uh have a lot of play versus the uppers on this particular bike it's actually not that bad so that's i could say that that's a pretty good positive for a bike of this year i think that's just because they welded everything together like that it's or i think they got lucky in their tolerances okay yep uh i would imagine the next work that came off the line it might have a lot of playing right as well so that the wheel wobbles back and forth yep variance i guess yes exactly what can you tell me about this wi-frame design so this wi-fi design actually goes back many years uh you first saw it in cycling use um about 1995 or so and that was really kind of the beginnings of full suspension design that major manufacturers were experimenting with and the idea behind it was you would have your main pivot located near your crank and it's just one single pivot the whole what they call the drive train the whole rear end of the bike was on a the one solid piece attached to that pivot then the shock would help join the two and so the theory was if you stood up and pedaled you were only standing on the cranks so the bike would firm up and act like a hardtail so be very efficient and be very fast so uphill pedaling you don't have a lot of compression i guess right exactly then when you sit on the saddle you're now loading the main frame and the suspension would work and you get that shock absorption so in theory that's a great idea even the major manufacturers the design wasn't that great so the the major benefit that this company uh that manufactures the bike will realize out of this is it they can label it as full suspension but yet it's very easy to make because you have one pivot they can just bolt together two halves of the bike that get welded together very simple and easy for manufacturing okay so relatively simple and easy for manufacturing and you get the marketing check box exactly full suspension correct yep so i guess if your target audience is someone who doesn't really know bikes or who hasn't ridden a lot of bikes recently maybe yep uh in walmart walking by i guess my thinking is you're gonna look at this versus one that's uh a full triangle with no rear suspension more traditional yeah and you're gonna go well this one has a shock yes so it's better yes absolutely it's a little unfortunate to my thinking that's a little misleading because even still even as inexpensive as this design can be to make it's still more expensive than a traditional frame and this performs no better and in some cases even worse on the rear one question i had i'm not sure if there's a reason for this but i noticed that uh the cutout for the axle yes pretty long yes so is there a reason that's not just a circ like a hole sure so this is actually called a horizontal drop out it's kind of it's not truly horizontal but it is like you're noting it's a longer style dropout it is um i think a holdover from many many years ago 60s and 70s but one benefit you still get nowadays is you can make a rear derailleur very inexpensively with the hanger built in and that hanger needs a spot you can see here with this screw to attach to it that way you need that longer dropout and just by extension of being the same and for manufacturing they make it the same on the other side as well okay so then when the wheel is located the axle fits in where the dropout is right right cool and it is nice in that it does have a name brand rear derailleur right shimano is a very large you know what model this is no idea that might be an oem only kind of yeah well that exists in the computer world too so yeah yeah uh-huh yeah uh do you mind uh maybe checking like what what your thoughts are on the shifting like if i brought this up absolutely absolutely because i have not shifted it yet and this is out of box all right so my initial impression it's incredibly hard to turn the shifter it is actually really disappointing as a shop owner because this is one of those things that is it's a barrier to somebody who wanting who wants to ride if you purchase this bike or a bike like it uh to actually go ride and you want to go you know go to your friend's house or whatever and you want to make it easier it's really hard i've actually had owners of you know with issues like this uh just leave it in one gear only ever uh in terms of the precision of it it's definitely not correct you can hear a lot of noise uh from the derailleur the chain is most likely rubbing one of the other cassettes uh and then if i continue to shift it you can see where actually the chain is moving off into the wheel which can be actually a hazardous situation this again is just poor adjustment at the factory uh and if uh you took this bike out and rode it without adjusting this first and tried to shift it into this first position cog the chain could go into the wheel the derailleur could go into the wheel and then it would wrap itself up and it would ruin in a heartbeat so that is one of those things that could literally be a show-a-stopper in terms of uh the function of the bike and then also um you know more expense to get it so if you buy it then do some adjustment on the shift then or bring it to a shop absolutely once you're bringing it to a shop though first of all everyone like you especially everyone's backed up like crazy right now oh yes but secondly uh now you're starting to put money into it uh yes and it's i don't know that's kind of hard for me to justify yeah that can be one of those disappointing things when uh a bike with made made with good intentions by a manufacturer the end product just is disappointing and sometimes can be downright dangerous right uh at the very least even if it didn't even if this situation didn't make it dangerous it could then just cause more potential costs right right to keep it rolling so it's definitely a difficult disappointing uh aspect of it right yeah the the front one although still not the greatest it's passable even though it's billed as a full suspension mountain bike and that kind of connotation makes you think hey i can go off-road in the dirt trails and and go bomb downhills no i would say stick to the paved smooth sections and you'll be fine right i think this will be my last ride right that's why i put me in the grave it was a pleasure working with you this is gonna suck it's gonna be a great time yeah super great the wheel turns the front wheel wow my toe just hit the wheel the front wheel turns slightly to the right on its own like so see that it turns on its own bro you look so stupid on that thing we haven't even made it out of the parking lot we were uh we were just setting up to test the camera angle on the chest mount and it's eating the chain yeah it came off the front derailleur and the chain actually chipped through the bash guard which is a great sign of integrity i'm sure it'll hold up to all the rocks and roots i'm gonna ride with this only in the middle i think for the rest of this yeah i wouldn't uh let me shift this into the easiest gear do you think they made this to try to kill you for all the bad reviews i was thinking about that i mean you're the only prominent youtuber that mountain bikes they knew coincidence oh okay i'm gonna let you go first to look for cars because i can't stop yeah it turns to the right on its own this thing's actually super unsafe oh god this thing sucks so bad i'm so embarrassed this is easily the sketchiest thing i've ever done on this i've ridden a lot worse for a lot harder trails but i've never tried to ride a bike this bad on trails like this i hope we don't see anyone in the woods because this is a very embarrassing bike to be on i think you look great really oh thank you i appreciate that and by great i mean you look like a tool oh no god this is so slow oh normally i jump those but i i actually couldn't slow down at all so how much travel did we use he's actually moving holy oh my god i wonder if i'm allowed to swear on his channel for anybody watching the speed at which he's going on this bike is uh it's actually fairly impressive because i'm i'm on my good bike and i'm actually having to go to keep up shift shift you shift i wonder if it's gonna snap something like on the cassette for the front rings it's kind of wild that the bash guard shattered like that we're gonna go for the easy drop here can't slow down oh my god i had to use my my foot to make that turn i mean that's all you bro this section sketches me out on on a normal bike follow close but not too close i don't know if i'm gonna stay on the bike oh god this is it this is the nightmare this is the biggest hill at this trail my groups are coming off so that's freaking great i gotta enter this hill slow because i won't be able to slow down once a minute oh holy you're you're an absolute madman that you just drove back that's nuts dude time for a chronological damage report after about one minute of riding in the parking lot prior to any trails and on reasonable terrain for this bike the chain got sucked into the bash guard and cracked it that's because the bash guard is made of plastic as for the rear shifting it had been left as is out of box since it's not reasonable to expect the user to tune the shift in and also it's not necessary if the bike is pre-built properly within five minutes of riding the chain overshifted into the hub this is extremely unsafe and it causes the cranks to lock out and could potentially throw the rider over the bars if it goes far enough into the hub all amd's manufacturer needed to do was adjust the high and low limit screws on the derailleur on the rear derailleur but the high and low limit screws would have stopped the chain from skipping either into the hub or the other direction this happens on the road as well mind you and amd's hubris is really showing just because the company can make very complex microchips doesn't mean it can make a bike this is a huge liability for amd and we're shocked that they're shipping it this way at all although the dork disc caught the overshifting in time for one of our issues additional testing showed that the chain is capable of still jamming up the hub this would destroy the wheel and it could potentially injure the rider throughout the ride the grips were slipping off the bars slowly but surely this is due to poor sizing and fit because the grips are actually longer than the amount of clearance they have on the bars and so they overhang and they get leveraged off of the bars after just about a six inch drop which is absolutely nothing mind you that's basically your neighborhood curb this is something you could ride on the street the rear shock coil blasted off of the piston and rested limply in the frame this is because it was poorly adjusted poorly installed and not configured properly and also because there's a one size fits all for the shock coil and for the frame in the process of the shock coil blowing off of the piston and resting there it chewed up the shock hardware and left deep gashes this is another potential safety hazard for the rider because now you're creating sharp jagged metal in the middle of the bike not only could this happen on something reasonable like repeat rides off of a curb for example if you're not a child or adolescent it could also go undetected and cause issues later we reassembled it properly and got it working well enough for the larger jumps that you already saw but that was after we had fixed it with our experience after about two and a half to three hours of riding the bike developed a crack in the head tube the crack is visibly peeking through the paint in the weaker welt this was our show stopper we immediately stopped all riding on the bike after spotting this because you never know how deep that crack is underneath the paint a head tube could sheer and impale the rider and that's into territory where it's no longer funny for a video the rear shifter really is terrible it's hard to convey that through video and this does again matter even for just greenway riding it really takes all of your forearm strength to move just one gear it's also so latent that you need to start shifting about 30 seconds before you want it to actually shift this is the kind of issue that even for transportation around town is going to be seriously inconveniencing and get people to just stick in a couple of gears the front end is so poorly adjusted that it should be left in the middle here as well amd should have better quality control processes in place with its manufacturer and we suspect that because amd doesn't know anything about bikes it didn't really have anyone in charge who could put those requests in place for the manufacturer to actually look over someone needs to be looking over the factory shoulder to tell them how it should be done and if amd isn't in a position to do that because it doesn't know what's good and bad that's a problem amd we think should be doing better than to associate its brand with something that is not only of poor quality but actually in purely our opinion dangerous to ride if you want a bike like this just buy a walmart bike and buy an amd sticker and put that on it if it's not better it's at least cheaper it's all about expectations with this as long as you expect to get ripped off for components and overpay for 150 walmart bike and as long as you take it to a skilled mechanic like cycle surgeon for a proper build and once over and tune up it's okay for a greenway or paved riding but don't take this on any trails and be careful taking it off the curb too many times and also be careful taking it onto the road without someone looking at it first this thing would be better on your wall or in your amd shrine and if you're in the business of spending four hundred dollars for a bike because you really want one that is awesome i personally highly encourage you to get into biking if you thought any of this looked fun but you can get 400 bikes that are so much better than this it can't even be voiced specialized hard rock from ages of your for example would be priced at around 400 at the entry level a used bike for four hundred dollars if you can find one right now would also be substantially better than the components you're getting on amd's so that's it for this one as always you can go to store.gamersexes.net or downhill bike which is a dual crown fork like it's a fox 40 dual crown fork 200 something mil of travel on the front similar in the back downhill bike and it weighs about the same as this thing uh i don't know if that's maybe like a maybe like a two to three inch travel rear shock we're gonna see how that spring sits once i get on the bike i'm a little concerned about uh cracking the frame somewhere but that's definitely the most catastrophic possible failure that could happen oh look at that that's a good that's a nice touch they've got the it's like a a bird has already sat on the bike like it's it's paint oh is it it's actually chipped through it's scratched through the letter there's like basically no grease in here at all so the fork is rusted as well the tube on the fork is rusted i'm assuming the head tube is rusted as well if we were to pull that out i like that the reflector was acting as structural support they don't ask for a size when you order this bike from their website yeah um i'm gonna have to lower the there you got the brake on the tire where it's lined up right now this was not lined up it wasn't even built so we could have at least assembled it to make sure it would assemble especially because this is actually a safety hazard this wheel is out of true i have a truing stand at home but i guess what's the point of buying an out-of-box bike if i'm going to fix it so i think we will just leave it that way i'll get the brakes a little more tuned up so that it clears like that that's pretty good out of true but it's not stopping anymore okay so i'm gonna finish building this i need to do a thrice over on all of the screws to make sure it's safe when done but i want to finish finish building we'll add some basics i don't know i guess i won't do some stuff like like chewing the wheel and chain lube and things like that i'm going to leave that out because that's how they ship the bike yeah i guess we'll stop there for this cut and i'll finish assembling it okay so now we are at cycle surgeon this is the bike shop i go to all the time matt is the best bike tech i've ever worked with so i've worked with a lot of bike techs thank you a lot of mechanics and matt does extremely good detailed work i bring my bike in here bikes over the years and as you know i'll just drop it off and basically be like i don't know find problems like just let me know what you find yeah absolutely gotta look it over yeah so matt's really good at finding problems so first first thing i want to get out of the way is the in in fairness and being uh realistic for everybody if someone actually really wants this bike and really like if you really have your heart set on it because you're amd fan or you're an amd fan or you're an amd fan yeah then go for it don't let us stop you absolutely but uh what do you think just looking at it where do you think this falls in terms of you know intended use stuff absolutely so if if this is a bike that gets you out riding a bike or if you want it for uh your amd gear collection fantastic it's awesome the intended use i would think would be for adolescent transportation it's built with you know heavy steel it's very heavy steel exactly it won't be anything performance oriented uh it'll do a great job though if you wanted to ride to your friend's house or you're going to ride the greenway you want to run to the store to get something to eat or something like that but uh um and if you want something performance though like you should definitely be i mean if you have the budget even if you don't have the budget because 300 yes on a used bike will get you a whole lot more absolutely this bike if you are looking to actually ride a bike don't buy this don't buy this uh what i always try to tell customers with a bike like this is that i will do my best to adjust it but it is built to a level that doesn't allow for very high precision right uh so uh adjusting the brakes so they don't rub truing the wheels so it is straight uh can be a difficult thing even for somebody who's experienced a mechanic for me as a mechanic and and a store owner brakes are a safety thing they've got to be right and if i do nothing else i want to make sure the brakes work when they go out the door but again it can be the the pivots on the brake these brakes are really hard to adjust for me they are hard to adjust period for anybody uh there's a lot of slop in the in the in the pivots right so even if you do adjust them properly they will oftentimes squeal because those pivots vibrate yeah uh so even if i do my job correctly it still doesn't have a very great outcome right what are your thoughts on the fork i've seen some where the lowers will really play uh have a lot of play versus the uppers on this particular bike it's actually not that bad so that's i could say that that's a pretty good positive for a bike of this year i think that's just because they welded everything together like that it's or i think they got lucky in their tolerances okay yep uh i would imagine the next work that came off the line it might have a lot of playing right as well so that the wheel wobbles back and forth yep variance i guess yes exactly what can you tell me about this wi-frame design so this wi-fi design actually goes back many years uh you first saw it in cycling use um about 1995 or so and that was really kind of the beginnings of full suspension design that major manufacturers were experimenting with and the idea behind it was you would have your main pivot located near your crank and it's just one single pivot the whole what they call the drive train the whole rear end of the bike was on a the one solid piece attached to that pivot then the shock would help join the two and so the theory was if you stood up and pedaled you were only standing on the cranks so the bike would firm up and act like a hardtail so be very efficient and be very fast so uphill pedaling you don't have a lot of compression i guess right exactly then when you sit on the saddle you're now loading the main frame and the suspension would work and you get that shock absorption so in theory that's a great idea even the major manufacturers the design wasn't that great so the the major benefit that this company uh that manufactures the bike will realize out of this is it they can label it as full suspension but yet it's very easy to make because you have one pivot they can just bolt together two halves of the bike that get welded together very simple and easy for manufacturing okay so relatively simple and easy for manufacturing and you get the marketing check box exactly full suspension correct yep so i guess if your target audience is someone who doesn't really know bikes or who hasn't ridden a lot of bikes recently maybe yep uh in walmart walking by i guess my thinking is you're gonna look at this versus one that's uh a full triangle with no rear suspension more traditional yeah and you're gonna go well this one has a shock yes so it's better yes absolutely it's a little unfortunate to my thinking that's a little misleading because even still even as inexpensive as this design can be to make it's still more expensive than a traditional frame and this performs no better and in some cases even worse on the rear one question i had i'm not sure if there's a reason for this but i noticed that uh the cutout for the axle yes pretty long yes so is there a reason that's not just a circ like a hole sure so this is actually called a horizontal drop out it's kind of it's not truly horizontal but it is like you're noting it's a longer style dropout it is um i think a holdover from many many years ago 60s and 70s but one benefit you still get nowadays is you can make a rear derailleur very inexpensively with the hanger built in and that hanger needs a spot you can see here with this screw to attach to it that way you need that longer dropout and just by extension of being the same and for manufacturing they make it the same on the other side as well okay so then when the wheel is located the axle fits in where the dropout is right right cool and it is nice in that it does have a name brand rear derailleur right shimano is a very large you know what model this is no idea that might be an oem only kind of yeah well that exists in the computer world too so yeah yeah uh-huh yeah uh do you mind uh maybe checking like what what your thoughts are on the shifting like if i brought this up absolutely absolutely because i have not shifted it yet and this is out of box all right so my initial impression it's incredibly hard to turn the shifter it is actually really disappointing as a shop owner because this is one of those things that is it's a barrier to somebody who wanting who wants to ride if you purchase this bike or a bike like it uh to actually go ride and you want to go you know go to your friend's house or whatever and you want to make it easier it's really hard i've actually had owners of you know with issues like this uh just leave it in one gear only ever uh in terms of the precision of it it's definitely not correct you can hear a lot of noise uh from the derailleur the chain is most likely rubbing one of the other cassettes uh and then if i continue to shift it you can see where actually the chain is moving off into the wheel which can be actually a hazardous situation this again is just poor adjustment at the factory uh and if uh you took this bike out and rode it without adjusting this first and tried to shift it into this first position cog the chain could go into the wheel the derailleur could go into the wheel and then it would wrap itself up and it would ruin in a heartbeat so that is one of those things that could literally be a show-a-stopper in terms of uh the function of the bike and then also um you know more expense to get it so if you buy it then do some adjustment on the shift then or bring it to a shop absolutely once you're bringing it to a shop though first of all everyone like you especially everyone's backed up like crazy right now oh yes but secondly uh now you're starting to put money into it uh yes and it's i don't know that's kind of hard for me to justify yeah that can be one of those disappointing things when uh a bike with made made with good intentions by a manufacturer the end product just is disappointing and sometimes can be downright dangerous right uh at the very least even if it didn't even if this situation didn't make it dangerous it could then just cause more potential costs right right to keep it rolling so it's definitely a difficult disappointing uh aspect of it right yeah the the front one although still not the greatest it's passable even though it's billed as a full suspension mountain bike and that kind of connotation makes you think hey i can go off-road in the dirt trails and and go bomb downhills no i would say stick to the paved smooth sections and you'll be fine right i think this will be my last ride right that's why i put me in the grave it was a pleasure working with you this is gonna suck it's gonna be a great time yeah super great the wheel turns the front wheel wow my toe just hit the wheel the front wheel turns slightly to the right on its own like so see that it turns on its own bro you look so stupid on that thing we haven't even made it out of the parking lot we were uh we were just setting up to test the camera angle on the chest mount and it's eating the chain yeah it came off the front derailleur and the chain actually chipped through the bash guard which is a great sign of integrity i'm sure it'll hold up to all the rocks and roots i'm gonna ride with this only in the middle i think for the rest of this yeah i wouldn't uh let me shift this into the easiest gear do you think they made this to try to kill you for all the bad reviews i was thinking about that i mean you're the only prominent youtuber that mountain bikes they knew coincidence oh okay i'm gonna let you go first to look for cars because i can't stop yeah it turns to the right on its own this thing's actually super unsafe oh god this thing sucks so bad i'm so embarrassed this is easily the sketchiest thing i've ever done on this i've ridden a lot worse for a lot harder trails but i've never tried to ride a bike this bad on trails like this i hope we don't see anyone in the woods because this is a very embarrassing bike to be on i think you look great really oh thank you i appreciate that and by great i mean you look like a tool oh no god this is so slow oh normally i jump those but i i actually couldn't slow down at all so how much travel did we use he's actually moving holy oh my god i wonder if i'm allowed to swear on his channel for anybody watching the speed at which he's going on this bike is uh it's actually fairly impressive because i'm i'm on my good bike and i'm actually having to go to keep up shift shift you shift i wonder if it's gonna snap something like on the cassette for the front rings it's kind of wild that the bash guard shattered like that we're gonna go for the easy drop here can't slow down oh my god i had to use my my foot to make that turn i mean that's all you bro this section sketches me out on on a normal bike follow close but not too close i don't know if i'm gonna stay on the bike oh god this is it this is the nightmare this is the biggest hill at this trail my groups are coming off so that's freaking great i gotta enter this hill slow because i won't be able to slow down once a minute oh holy you're you're an absolute madman that you just drove back that's nuts dude time for a chronological damage report after about one minute of riding in the parking lot prior to any trails and on reasonable terrain for this bike the chain got sucked into the bash guard and cracked it that's because the bash guard is made of plastic as for the rear shifting it had been left as is out of box since it's not reasonable to expect the user to tune the shift in and also it's not necessary if the bike is pre-built properly within five minutes of riding the chain overshifted into the hub this is extremely unsafe and it causes the cranks to lock out and could potentially throw the rider over the bars if it goes far enough into the hub all amd's manufacturer needed to do was adjust the high and low limit screws on the derailleur on the rear derailleur but the high and low limit screws would have stopped the chain from skipping either into the hub or the other direction this happens on the road as well mind you and amd's hubris is really showing just because the company can make very complex microchips doesn't mean it can make a bike this is a huge liability for amd and we're shocked that they're shipping it this way at all although the dork disc caught the overshifting in time for one of our issues additional testing showed that the chain is capable of still jamming up the hub this would destroy the wheel and it could potentially injure the rider throughout the ride the grips were slipping off the bars slowly but surely this is due to poor sizing and fit because the grips are actually longer than the amount of clearance they have on the bars and so they overhang and they get leveraged off of the bars after just about a six inch drop which is absolutely nothing mind you that's basically your neighborhood curb this is something you could ride on the street the rear shock coil blasted off of the piston and rested limply in the frame this is because it was poorly adjusted poorly installed and not configured properly and also because there's a one size fits all for the shock coil and for the frame in the process of the shock coil blowing off of the piston and resting there it chewed up the shock hardware and left deep gashes this is another potential safety hazard for the rider because now you're creating sharp jagged metal in the middle of the bike not only could this happen on something reasonable like repeat rides off of a curb for example if you're not a child or adolescent it could also go undetected and cause issues later we reassembled it properly and got it working well enough for the larger jumps that you already saw but that was after we had fixed it with our experience after about two and a half to three hours of riding the bike developed a crack in the head tube the crack is visibly peeking through the paint in the weaker welt this was our show stopper we immediately stopped all riding on the bike after spotting this because you never know how deep that crack is underneath the paint a head tube could sheer and impale the rider and that's into territory where it's no longer funny for a video the rear shifter really is terrible it's hard to convey that through video and this does again matter even for just greenway riding it really takes all of your forearm strength to move just one gear it's also so latent that you need to start shifting about 30 seconds before you want it to actually shift this is the kind of issue that even for transportation around town is going to be seriously inconveniencing and get people to just stick in a couple of gears the front end is so poorly adjusted that it should be left in the middle here as well amd should have better quality control processes in place with its manufacturer and we suspect that because amd doesn't know anything about bikes it didn't really have anyone in charge who could put those requests in place for the manufacturer to actually look over someone needs to be looking over the factory shoulder to tell them how it should be done and if amd isn't in a position to do that because it doesn't know what's good and bad that's a problem amd we think should be doing better than to associate its brand with something that is not only of poor quality but actually in purely our opinion dangerous to ride if you want a bike like this just buy a walmart bike and buy an amd sticker and put that on it if it's not better it's at least cheaper it's all about expectations with this as long as you expect to get ripped off for components and overpay for 150 walmart bike and as long as you take it to a skilled mechanic like cycle surgeon for a proper build and once over and tune up it's okay for a greenway or paved riding but don't take this on any trails and be careful taking it off the curb too many times and also be careful taking it onto the road without someone looking at it first this thing would be better on your wall or in your amd shrine and if you're in the business of spending four hundred dollars for a bike because you really want one that is awesome i personally highly encourage you to get into biking if you thought any of this looked fun but you can get 400 bikes that are so much better than this it can't even be voiced specialized hard rock from ages of your for example would be priced at around 400 at the entry level a used bike for four hundred dollars if you can find one right now would also be substantially better than the components you're getting on amd's so that's it for this one as always you can go to store.gamersexes.net or patreon.com gamersnexus helps out directly our thanks to matt at cycle surgeon for joining us for this one and we'll see you all next time\n"
