The Discovery of a Rare and Mysterious Device

As I stood at the front desk, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and curiosity. A note on my phone caught my attention, and I immediately got in the car to investigate further. The note was about a rare device that had been found, and I was eager to learn more about it. When I arrived at the location, I saw two completely rare unicorns, which sparked my interest even more.

The device itself was a large, capstone-like object with a giant capacitor on top. It was surrounded by various components and wires, and I could sense that it was something truly unique. The person in front of me explained that this device was capable of producing high-frequency sound waves, specifically at 60 Hz, which is rare in the US. They showed me how to plug it in, register it, and power it up, and I was amazed by its simplicity and complexity.

As we powered on the device, I heard a soft, gentle music coming from it. The person explained that this was a result of the device's ability to dampen the sound waves, creating a more mellow tone. They also showed me how to change tracks by pushing in a little index wheel, which moved the needle up and down on the track. This was truly fascinating, as I had never seen anything like it before.

One aspect that puzzled me was the way the device laid down its tracks. The person explained that they were arranged in a helical pattern, similar to VHS tapes. They also mentioned that if you played between certain numbers, the device would skip further into the song. This was both fascinating and a bit confusing, as I struggled to understand how it worked.

As we continued to explore the device, I couldn't help but marvel at its beauty. It had a stunning design, with intricate details and patterns etched onto its surface. The person mentioned that this was not just a device, but also a piece of art. They showed me various components, including an alligator skin material and Star Trek props, which added to the device's mystique.

The device came in different cartridges, each containing unique sounds or music. Some were orchestral, while others were more dance-oriented. I was amazed by the variety of sounds that could be produced from this small device. The person also mentioned that some of these devices didn't have an amplifier, so they needed to be connected to an external stereo amp to function.

As we continued to explore the device, I realized just how rare and unique it was. It was clear that this was not something you would find every day. The person explained that this device was made by a company called Tey, which had produced radios and record players in addition to this innovative sound device. They also mentioned that some of these devices could be played out to external devices, allowing for greater flexibility.

The experience of discovering and exploring this rare device was truly unforgettable. I felt privileged to have seen something that few people would ever encounter. As the person wrapped up their demonstration, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and appreciation for this incredible piece of technology.

The device's legacy lives on through the company, Tey, which continues to innovate and produce unique products. The person who brought it in invited us to check out Tech Moon's website for more information and videos about the device. They also encouraged viewers to share their own experiences with similar devices, which would be fascinating to hear.

As I left the location, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience this rare device. The world of technology is full of surprises, and sometimes it takes a chance encounter to discover something truly remarkable. This article serves as a testament to the power of discovery and exploration, highlighting the importance of embracing the unknown and appreciating the beauty in unexpected places.

According to historical records, Tey had been involved in producing radios and record players, which suggests that they were pioneers in the field of sound technology.

One fascinating aspect of the Tey Phone is its design. The person who brought it in showed me an alligator skin material, which was used as a component in one of the devices. This added to the device's mystique, making it even more intriguing. The device itself had a stunning red background with gold accents, adding to its visual appeal.

The Tey Phone also had a variety of cartridges, each containing unique sounds or music. Some were orchestral, while others were more dance-oriented. I was amazed by the range of sounds that could be produced from this small device. The person explained that some of these devices didn't have an amplifier, so they needed to be connected to an external stereo amp to function.

As I continued to research the Tey Phone, I came across more information about its history. It seemed that this device was not just a product of the 1960s or 1970s, but something that had been developed in the mid-20th century. The person who brought it in mentioned that they had found it in an antique shop, which suggested that it was a rare find.

some businesses transact here at tested and a lot of people are are in today it's a fun sort of gathering and you brought a toy for me to see yeah I just brought it in because I thought well I always take Bets with myself does Adam know about this and or does he have one so this is the thing is the answer to both of those questions is no I did not know this object existed I do not have one I have taken some pictures so I can go find one cuz yeah this is amazing uh and I'm I'm going to say right now off that this is a Spur the- moment show and tell so I I might not have all my facts right so I apologize for that but but I'll do the best I can but you found this years ago or you found this recently recently at Urban Ore yes our favorite junk store one of the great junk stores of all junk stores in brookley California um I've been shopping there for over 30 years they're fantastic fantastic yeah and you found this there yeah uh I so I should give a shout out to uh techone which is a great YouTube channel that reviews and shows uh obscure AV Equipment I believe that techone is the research I did for figuring out which is the specific Japanese recorder from man from mind Hunter sounds exactly right so uh he's out of the UK I love his channel this is one of the things he uh featured and as soon as I saw it on the Shelf Urban I like and this is a recording playback device it's a playback device I mean playback device right so it a playback a recording yeah um on a special media very I didn't know about the media I didn't know about the machine y so shall we yeah let's do it so you pull down on that lever there and here we are this is the teffy phone the teffy phone Tey phone and I'll pull t e fi pull these cartriges o n mhm German German oh my God look at this so I'm sure some people are like what what what is happen what's going on here well so I actually I there's so much to go over but the very first thing I want to point out is look at how beautiful this ancient masking tape is and holy hell like I'm I'm going to take a closeup picture of this with my phone because if I was doing ancient masking tape on a prop I would not know that overlapping masking tape would make it darker that this color value is surprising to me and it's got to be in the research file and I think this I think these are actual repairs to the cartridge to keep them I believe you're right probably yeah okay so describe what the hell do thing so it's it's a tape record player is the best way to describe it cuz this looks like a tape this is on an endless loop kind of like I believe eight tracks were done that way so that it just keeps looping and looping and I see grooves and it has grooves like a record so it's it's effectively a needle based playback system like a record yep very very similar material but very it's like it's like those flexi discs that you get in a magazine I didn't like it's that kind of material I how have I never heard of this so freaking weird I love it and the only so the question is why the heck would you make something like this right and as far as I know it's German uh they were made in the ' 50s and 60s I believe they didn't have a real long run I cuz you know cassette started coming out like late 60s early 7s I think and but I think the reason this was done is that this is a smaller cartridge this is an hour long you can get a bigger cartrid that takes up this whole Space you can fit four hours of music on it so I think it was their answer to fitting a lot of stuff in a an hour of Music in this little thing is itself impressive and I think there's smaller ones that do 15 minutes can they also just say look at this beautiful beautiful design these color choices the font kerning the readability the communicability that is like beautiful mid-century design yeah really nicely done and we got bake a light we got the hammered stuff we got this awesome Grill and apparently this one's an oddball most of them were just this unit oh really so they didn't have the speaker play yeah and then you had uh you had an output cord they were mostly mono this is a mono they very briefly did a stereo one really and so this one it seems to be somewhat unusual most of the ones that are like this had a radio so there's a radio dial up here this one just has an amplifier wow uh which I don't see and you never see these in the US as far as I can't I'm sad about that I will start looking now but great great Urban or story when I got it it was just this in the cover okay so not these yeah and these I knew these are going to be expensive to get and I was like ah and it's going to have to come from Europe ghost no at least it's not the important thing tipping over there we go uh these are kind of hard to find and you typically would probably have to get them from Europe so I like well here comes the hunt so .co.uk is always great about putting little notes on the stuff like tested this works this doesn't work etc Urban does that yeah and I get at home and it's like two two sound books in cord at front desk and was like so I like I immediately got in the car I drove 20 minutes back I was like hey I saw this note on this thing do you have that like yeah well here they are so these two completely rare unicorns we've got them anyway so we should we should show how this works I it actually works yeah I had to do a little unjamming on the motor but overall so it had this basically giant capston yeah and I'm going to plug it in here and and because these are kind of rare in the US we I was lucky that this is a 11060 HZ oh my God at that need yeah so basically you you pull the pull the ribbon out sure you pop it over the capston and has a drrive right I see a little registration Mark there and a mark there it can only there's a rubber pad that's usually on here for a little grippy but I I'm missing that ah Fair um and then you power it up what starts going and we're going to engage it has a soft touch needle so it has a dampening on the needle mine's a little slow so it's going it's going in a little slower than normal and we're going to turn on the amp oh hold on a second we might be at the end of a song There we go it's the perfect music to come out of this machine fer so then you can change tracks by pushing in the little index wheel and then it'll move the needle up and down on the tail oh my God yeah so when you're doing that you're literally pushing the needle itself and then just adjusting it down yeah now the one thing I can't figure out I believe that this the tracks are laid down like in helical pattern kind of like VHS would be right so I think you don't know what it does when it gets all the way to the end of well I think what happens is if you go to these I'll turn this down a little bit I think when you go to these numbers these are going to the tracks and you can say the tracks are listed on the oh on the tape really but I think if you go in between it's skipping further into the song yeah I'm just so blown away by this that I never even knew such a thing existed but also look at how beautiful it is I know that right there I know like a hammerite red background with a gold like that is some oh we got some of the the um the alligator skin stuff and yeah this is like it's like all of the Star Trek props all at once it's like we got six communicators out of this thing well definitely fit into to uh really really would so that's that's the engage so you can disengage there and then it turns the whole that's the on and off switch y oh my God Sean this is so beautiful and they had a variety of this so we have some orchestral stuff here these are these are like more like dance tunes they had a very I different you know cassettes you or cartridges you can get and like I said up some up to 4 hours long unbelievable what a Bonkers device though wait and it's a Tey phone Tey phone Tey phone I believe I think the company itself was Tey and I they made radios and actual I think record players and then this is the yeah the Tey phone dude what a magnificent brand new object in my in my experiential uh in my experience and that uh is that that's the output that's the output so you can you could put it to an external device oh wow okay so you could out you could play it out to something else yeah cuz some of these a lot of these didn't have the amplifier so you'd have to have an external like you know stereo amp to put it into but amazing oh my god um I'm glad you liked it yeah hey if you grew up listening to one of these we totally want to hear your story in the comments all the folks from Germany yeah exactly dude thank you for bringing this in it's so amazing I take great pride in in revealing something you didn't know
