The Art of Planning: Creating a Purple Rain-Inspired Spread
As I began working on my latest planning project, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia wash over me. The theme of this spread is inspired by one of my all-time favorite artists, Prince, and his iconic album "Purple Rain." With its rich purple hues and musical notes, I knew I had to create a design that would do justice to the music legend's aesthetic.
To start, I decided on the base color scheme for my spread. I wanted to incorporate two main colors: purple and black. The original idea was to go with all-black prints going on so I'm definitely going to have to incorporate two purple strips the top and the bottom and then maybe the musical note in the center. After some deliberation, I ultimately chose a mix of both purple and black prints, which would add depth and visual interest to my spread.
I spent some time browsing through various print options, searching for the perfect combination that would capture Prince's essence. Along the way, I stumbled upon some gorgeous musical note prints that immediately caught my eye. These prints featured intricate designs and were reminiscent of Prince's iconic stage costumes. I knew I had to incorporate them into my design.
Next, I turned my attention to the construction paper. I wanted to create a striking contrast between the solid colors and the printed elements. I opted for a regular paper, which added a subtle texture to my spread. The lines on the paper didn't quite turn out as planned, but I was able to salvage them by using my blue printer ink head, which resulted in an oddly cool purple stripe.
As I worked on adding the final touches to my design, I couldn't help but think about how much Prince's music means to me. My favorite print song is "Raspberry Beret," which features a beautiful illustration of his iconic beret. Another standout track is "Little Red Corvette," with its sleek and modern design. And, of course, who can forget the unforgettable hit single "Purple Rain"? These songs are all classics in my book.
To add an extra layer of bling to my spread, I rummaged through some washi tape at the Dollar Tree. I had originally intended to use a different washi, but this new one exceeded my expectations. The subtle pattern and color added just the right amount of sparkle to my design. I also used some additional decorations from the same store to create a cohesive look.
With my spread finally complete, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. This design not only paid homage to Prince's legacy but also served as a beautiful reminder of his impact on music and pop culture. Whether you're a longtime fan or just discovering the music of Prince, this spread is sure to bring a touch of elegance and sophistication to your planner.
For those interested in creating their own Prince-inspired spreads, I'd like to share my process with you. To start, consider using a combination of purple and black prints to create a striking visual effect. Don't be afraid to experiment with different materials and textures, such as washi tape and construction paper. And don't forget to add some personal touches, like stickers or handwritten notes, to make your spread truly unique.
I also want to take this opportunity to share my love for planning videos on YouTube. As a fan of planning since I was a little girl, it's surreal to think that I've been creating content around this hobby for so long. I'm thrilled that many of you have enjoyed watching my planner videos and can't wait to continue sharing my passion with all of you.
For those who have asked about how to make stickers on your computer, I'll be sharing a tutorial in the coming days. I'd love to provide step-by-step instructions on how to create these beautiful stickers using just a few simple materials.
Finally, as I look back on this spread, I'm reminded of the power of planning and creativity. It's amazing how something as simple as paper and ink can be transformed into a work of art that brings joy and inspiration to our lives.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys so it's been a really long time since I've actually just sat down with my planner and kind of did like a chatty video and talk through as I sit here in plan most of the time I like to do voiceovers or just music because I like to watch movies and stuff when I plan but I figured I would you know just chitchat with you guys as I apply my planner spread in my target dollar spot so I do have a couple of planner planners going and I'm completely fine with that because I love planning but just as a reminder planning isn't for everybody nor if and if planning is for you don't allow it to control your life you don't have to do things just so that you have to like check them off of a list but if your a list kind of girl like me then you understand about planning so this is my target dollar spot planner and today I am going to do my weekly spread and I'm also going to do my very first target dollar spot daily insert so we're gonna get to that a little bit later but first we're going to take care of our spread but before I get into all of that this is my planner and I absolutely love all of my little tassels I recently had someone asked me how I attach my tassels to my planner so I thought that I would go ahead and show you guys I also have a keychain on here so this one that has the gorgeous little perfume bottle and jewels and the little tassel is all one and it has this huge ring right here if you can see it so I got this at Michael's it was $5.99 and I got it for 40% off and then I just took the tassels that already have like this clip attached to it and this is also from Michaels a dollar fifty been the same thing Michael's a dollar 50 bin they also had a black one and I'm really upset with myself that I never got it so I'm still in the hunt for it hopefully I can find it but basically I just took the tassels and clipped it as you can see - the keychain ring and then the keychain ring is looped inside of the binder I'll show you that here so here is the inside of my binder and the keychain ring right here as you can see also has its own little clip right here so I've simply just clipped this to the binder ring and then this gold tassel is clipped to the binder ring too but I'm actually going to remove it I'm going to remove it and add it alongside the white one just so that they're equal in length there that's much better I know that's like a lot going on but absolutely love it then there's this tassel but it's part of this makeup bag that I actually added here as a pouch I will link that video down below if you want to see how I did that seriously one of my favorite DIYs planner DIYs to date I just love it I mean not to toot my own horn but toot toot ok so now let's go ahead and flip to next week's spread here's my current week it really served me well I looked at this a couple of times and now we're going to decorate next week here so I do remove these pages from the planner and then I close this and put it aside so this spread I actually wanted to well I wanted to do it in my happy planner but I had already done Wonderwoman which I will link down below in the description box if you want to see how I did my Wonder Woman theme but I did Wonder Woman before I heard about Prince's passing away so I figured I don't want to wait a whole week to do a spread on him so I'm gonna go ahead and incorporate a prince theme in this weekly spread and I'm really hoping it turns out great because I'm an 80s girl and not just because Prince is an 80s person but I absolutely adored him it's just the saddest thing in the world for me and I just want to honor him through this spread the first thing that I need to do is get rid of this like plum purpley color I mean I am doing a purple spread but this isn't the right purple so I am gonna cover it up with some printer paper I've done this before on my other target dollar spot spreads so I am just going to cut strips of white printer paper and then we're gonna glue over it and then wash it over that and the reason why I do that is because most of my washi is transparent so if you've got that purple color underneath you'll be able to see it and it won't make my washi look good the next thing I want to do is pick out my washi and I've sort of pre-selected some already just to have some choices and then I'll narrow it down from there I want to use this gorgeous musical note just because obviously and this really beautiful foil purple then I have these two from the Dollar Tree that are purple I think I may need to pull another black just to balance it out maybe the stripes I want to make sure that I have a lot more purple than black going on so I'm definitely going to have to incorporate two purple strips the top and the bottom and then maybe the musical note in the center comment down below and let me know if you've ever seen prints in concert or what your favorite prints song is for me my favorite prints song is a raspberry beret she wore a raspberry beret the time that you find a secondhand store I also love little red Corvette and of course Purple Rain you know all of his really big ones are amazing so now I need to choose my purple and I don't know you guys what do you think I don't think that that one maybe let's take a look at this purple glitter except there's glitter fallout everywhere I love these glitter washes from Dollar Tree they have so much potential but like the fallout is intense it's just you can't just almost impossible to use you'd have to like roll it out and spray it with hairspray and that's probably really difficult to do for washing this one's not bad let's go ahead and use this one I made some stickers on my computer so I'm gonna go ahead and print them although I had the intention of doing this on my hobby planner so they only fit the squares in my happy planner so they may fit pretty nice in here too but yeah these are the gorgeous print stickers and I wanted to do some of his like musical notes for a little red Corvette and Purple Rain so and of course his symbol was obviously very big part of his aesthetic I have had a couple people ask me how to make these stickers on my computer I will make a tutorial for you in a couple of days and link that on my channel I have been planning since I was basically a little girl and I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would be doing planning videos on YouTube so I can't tell you how like thrilled and happy it makes me that so many of you love my planning videos and now I'm going to cut up the big picture that I just copied and pasted onto a Word documents this is just regular paper it's not a sticker paper and excuse the lines because my blue printer ink head I think is like I think the ink is bad or the printer head is damaged so but on an oddly enough it gives it like this purple stripe so it's really cool and this is one of my favorite prints photos ever because if you look at it you just know that silhouette is him like there's no denying it they're just no one else that has that silhouette I may put this on the back now I am going to go ahead and glue this to the back of the purple construction paper because I like it I'm still debating on these stickers over here now let's go ahead and make our punch holes through fear I got this punch hole at the Dollar Tree although I would recommend that you get one at like Hobby Lobby or Michaels or craft store because this really isn't great quality I am actually not liking this washi at all I don't like it so I'm going to get rid of it and start over and sometimes that just happens now that I have that redone we taped I am actually going to use this washi instead I I think I got this at the target dollar spot I am loving this so much better already okay now let's try that oh my god I love that I love it love it love it okay so let's see what we're gonna do here I feel like this is missing some bling some extra sparkle so I am gonna use these I think I got these at the Dollar Tree so let's see what we can do with them I am gonna write in the things that I have to do but just for like visual effect for you guys I have been recently leaving like my planner spreads blank just so that you can just see the spread instead of seeing all the things I write in but if you preferred to have me like right in the things that I'm gonna do for the week comment down below and let me know otherwise the reason why I am leaving it blank is so that you see the spread instead of you know all the things that I'm writing in all my to do stuff so now we are ready to add this inside of our planner which i think looks fabulous the reason why I love making these little pages and if you watch my planner videos then you see me making these a lot it's because one I love that I get an opportunity to apply the photo that I love most for my spread it just makes the spread look really beautiful but it also gives you more writing rooms so if you turn it around back you could have a lot of room to like write notes and stuff so that's also a plus I think this looks really great and really sad that you know having to do this spread under the circumstances but I hope that our friend travels well youhey guys so it's been a really long time since I've actually just sat down with my planner and kind of did like a chatty video
