"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis week we give our final test results of the 2021 genesis gv80 we share our car comfort pet peeves and our evs more prone to damage when driving through high water that and more next on talking cars hi and welcome to talking cars i'm jennifer stockberger i'm emily thomas i'm gabe shanhart so we actually have a lot going on at the track it almost feels normal back to normal a little bit in the spring weather so i personally will be doing headlights this week we're doing avoidance maneuver on the next group and obviously with all the safety precautions in place but there's a lot of people at the track so it feels really good and this week we also came out with kind of a new package talking about comfort so if you're listening if you're watching i hope you're comfortable i hope you have a snack and a nice drink if you're driving think about how comfortable you are is your seat comfortable as you're listening so when we think of comfort you know it's so individualized you know everybody has their pet peeves gabe what are your comfort pet peeves go-to's must-haves when you're driving oh everybody knows that my pet peeve is lumbar support and particularly four-way lumbar support lower back support is really important to me and and over the last few years when my son was going to school in ohio we made the trip from connecticut to ohio about 10 times and it's a 10 hour long trip so we're going to switch drivers and uh there were some cases where i discovered that the passenger seat uh didn't have the lumbar support that the driver's seat had and i was uh quite miserable and to the point that even one time i think i had the volkswagen atlas at home we're all ready to go cars already packed and i said something like that uh to my wife honey guess what we're taking our own car because it has passenger lumbar support and i knew i'd be miserable on the passenger seat without it you don't want a cranky gabe for a 10 hour drive no no or gabe's driving the whole way one of the two yeah you bring out a good point a lot of times the driver's seat has all these great things and this passenger front passenger seat does not so emily do you have your pet peeves or when it comes to comfort yeah i um i have really sensitive ears and so i hate when cars are super noisy like when there's a lot of outside noise that comes into the cabin and i've gotten out of cars at the track before and asked the guys like is this super noisy and they're like no it was fine and i'm like okay but really noisy cars i hate that because when i get out i have like this hum in my ears like it just like really bothers me and because i'm um you know a shorter to average at best uh height driver i hate when um i can't adjust the driver's seat properly like if the front edge of the driver's seat doesn't also adjust like independently you know when i have to like bring my seat up really high to be able to see over the dash but then i'm like tilted at this weird angle where i feel like i'm being pitched forward into like the steering wheel and i can't like adequately adjust um you know the the thigh support or like if the steering wheel doesn't telescope properly right i can't get into a comfortable like it's like do i make it so i can actually reach the steering wheel and the pedals or do i choose like which one is more important today kind of thing so those are like the small things that you're just like oh i wish i had this and now i kind of have to like suffer and tolerate through it you know so yeah so emily you point out driving position as much as seat comfort you know does it have the adjustability for reach and all of that which is all part of of what we talk about in this comfort package so for me you guys have touched on a couple similar so me i i sit very upright and for some reason i call it like the bus driver position um but a lot of times the seat belt wants to be more outboard on my shoulder so i really like adjustable seat belt anchors at the top and sometimes even when they're adjustable they aren't adjustable enough and i can't get them so it crosses you know comfortably and for whatever reason when something isn't just quite right to your point gabe it just makes you crazy for those minutes i also emily like a lot of seat height and when the roof line of the car is so low that i actually bring myself up into the ceiling and have to lower it i don't like that either so it's so individual everybody should make it a part of their test drive you know look think about these things you know test drive is short but think about all the little things like how would i feel when i'm on my 10-hour you know trip to the university of ohio how is this gonna feel so ohio state university by the way oh sorry the ohio state the ohio state oh that was bad yeah so yeah how will it feel after 10 hours so really think about that so all of this is available at consumerreports.com what to think about in terms of comfort so i hope you were all comfortable with that so moving on to from the track we have our final test results of the 2021 genesis gv80 super nice looking car for sure just a reminder ours we purchased was the 3.5 liter v6 stickered at and 65 five dollars no slouch in terms of price with the addition of a fifty two hundred dollar um advanced package which brought some parking assist features rain sensing wipers the blind spot monitor um lexicon audio as well it's kind of interesting as some really kind of unique comfort features um what genesis calling their ergo motion seats the kind of make adjustments without you having to to relax your pelvis relax your back so it's kind of funny that that car is in when we're talking about comfort so emily i'm gonna go to you first what are your um final thoughts around our testing of the genesis gv80 so i really liked how it drove i thought it drove really well and like you said it is a beautiful car outside and inside it's very elegant um i found it pretty spacious you know i when i went to go get it from the track i had both kids with me so putting both the car seats in the back um and still having plenty of room like it didn't feel like really cramped in the cabin which was really good you know in my child seat evaluation i was pleasantly surprised with you know how well um i was able to install car seats in the center seat with a seat belt you know normally in most vehicles the center seating position is super difficult to get a good secure installation and that wasn't the case here um so that was that was good because you don't usually have the lower anchors in the center seat either so it's like you have an alternate option and i also really like the genesis pulled the um hyundai um rear occupant alert system into their gv80 and they have not just the door logic system but also the ultrasonic sensing so you know you're able to get a reminder in your dash when you turn off the car to check your back seat and then let's say you forget to um you know just in the bustle of getting everything out and you lock the vehicle it does motion sense and it can um alert you via the blue link or it will you know and it will also um hunt the horn to give you that reminder so i was really happy to see that entire package as a standard system um not just like cherry picking the door logic and only making you pay for the extra of the motion sensing but at that price point that you just mentioned you know i mean it's it's an up there price point i really wish that they had put a rear belt binder system in there i'm like you've already got we're going to talk about pet peeves maybe not a comfort one from a safety perspective a pet peeve that i have and for all the manufacturers listening is it's like we choose one one rear safety system you either get the rear belt binder or you get a rear seat reminder and when you look at how both systems function they tend to function nearly the same or they use very similar logic a lot of them use that door logic so it's like you already have the bones in there to do one you might as well make him do both and so jenna says please put a rear belt binder in your vehicles that's mine and we always say seat belts your first line of defense exactly um gabe genesis gv80 what do you think the car clearly exudes uh premium and luxury befitting its price point uh you look at it has presence and inside is uh luxurious and understated with matt wood and uh textured buttons and switches uh driving it uh it's pretty obvious from the first few miles that whoever was involved in developing this car knew what they were doing in terms of handling steering brake feel there is i mean the car is really enjoyable to drive it has this uh point ability that you get with the rear wheel drive based uh car and it steers nicely it's uh it's quite uh enjoyable to drive it uh even uh even when you up the ante on a twisted road there's high speed stability uh and it's uh it's it's very much it comes across as a very well highly developed uh european suv now um there are some uh i mean the the two man knocks against the car or fuel economy which is uh 18 mpg overall which is uh a couple of mpg uh behind its direct competitor uh and um and the controls uh i mean when you first get into the car you don't know who's on first uh it's uh it's so confusing uh starting with the uh uh gear selector i mean sometimes you not twist the the rotary knob all the way to the left you think you're getting parked but lo and behold you've got to reverse so at least it has all the safety precautions when you open the door or shut off the car you get parked but it can be startling in a few situations and uh the fact that uh both the uh controller for the uh infotainment touch screen is around and that the gear selector around compounds matters that uh certainly doesn't help and you're talking about pet peeve then the fact that the car doesn't have uh wireless car play uh i think that's uh that's quite uh embarrassing because i i got uh used to uh in you know in an audi q7 or bmw x5 direct competitors i got used to having no wires no no need to plug in anything you know you walk into the car car play there beautiful so i hope genesis uh rectifies that quickly yeah and that knob is so annoying to touch uh the controls knob right that i mean the infotainment screen is touch screen so i kept trying to bypass the the knob all together and just reach for the screen itself and you know do everything on the screen but the problem with that was again being a shorter driver i don't have very long arms and that screen is kind of far away from the driving position and so like it was a real reach where you know i'm getting distracted trying to like make sure i'm focusing on the road and like using the steering wheel but also reaching enough to get to the screen i don't know if you experienced that at all jen but that was like i tried to bypass one annoying thing and ended up with another annoying thing yeah i think that's the biggest knock i mean just just personally when i think they can't reinvent a gear selector or an infotainment system anymore out comes the 2021 genesis and it doesn't even you know everything takes like a double click i have to look there's no intuitive um park you know like a prindle like we talk about part reverse you know neutral dry you know it just it's not there and you always have to look down i totally agree with gabe too many familiar similar looking things to operate again it's one of these cars where driving the car is very very different from operating the controls inside because i also driving the car is really really good i mean when are we talking about an suv that has a little bit of sportiness to it and that powertrain quite frankly you could be in trouble because you look down and see the speed you're going and it's effortless like it's so smooth let me just uh make one thing clear that we have nothing against uh rotary gear selectors uh i mean we see them in fords in chryslers in uh jaguar land rovers but somehow uh in your muscle memory you got used to the fact that you turn it all the way to the left and you expect to get park and then you have you know reverse drive two clicks you can do it without looking but in the genesis it's different because the park is a separate button and if you're not aware of that then it's that can invite trouble and you know many people are probably saying at this point if you owned the car you'd get used to it but we actually had the discussion many of the aspects of this particular gear selector we're not sure even over time that your muscle memory because of the odd way it detents the way it catches but that's you know something we surely talked about on this car and these are things too like kind of going back to the comfort that we were talking about before in the test drive you know when when my husband was getting um his a3 and he went for his test drive i told him i was like make sure you try to like fiddle with the radio and like you know see where you know the different um controls are even things as simple as you know where's your windshield wiper um stock where's you know the the turn signal stock um the things that you normally need to be able to get to your headlights if you find that it's like not intuitive for you and you know or that it is uncomfortable like that's something to take into consideration before you purchase a vehicle absolutely so so kind of a dichotomous vehicle certainly we have all the final test results of the 2021 gb 80 at consumerreports.org so check them out for yourselves so before moving on just uh inform or remind about the talking cars donation program as you may know consumer reports is non-profit all of the dollars for all of the testing we do um all of the content we do the show come from either memberships or donations so anything you can give is most appreciated cr.org slash give talking cars to make a donation and we much appreciate it so moving on to your questions keep them coming 30 second video clips text messages um talking cards at icloud.com are one of our favorite parts of the show of course um so our first questions comes from jenny in reston virginia i am ready to replace my 2003 subaru forester and recently re-read the consumer reports article about the failure to crash test cars with dummies designed to simulate women's bodies i am a five foot tall woman and would like to know if any cars are rated safer for women when in a crash or have been tested with women's bodies in mind so emily jenny sounds like a stature closer to you so do you have do you have good advice advice for jenny yeah so um for to kind of frame it uh so you are aware of what is available in the current crash test programs right you have your regulatory testing that happens right in order for a vehicle to be able to be sold in the u.s so there is crash testing there and then you have your consumer information programs ihs and the nitsa new car assessment program the ncat program so there are some specific crashes that do have um the fifth female fifth percentile female crash test dummy involved so the end cap side pole test has a fifth female as the driver and that's the only dummy in the vehicle and the ihs side impact test has um a fifth female driver and a fifth female left outboard uh rear passenger so those are the only two tests that have female dummies in the vehicle currently right oh and there's also the end cap full frontal barrier test where there's a fifth female in the front passenger seat so there are some vehicles or there are some tests that do have a female crash to stemi there are no crash tests that have an average sized female dummy and unfortunately the fifth female dummy really is scaled down from the 50th male right so in the new um dummy families that are coming out the new fifth female thor dummy is going to be based off of actual uh female physiological data so that's going to be really great really the best advice to give you jenny is even though the we haven't had an average size female crash test dummy women have still benefited from all the safety improvements that have happened to vehicles over time and so what you really want to do is you want to make sure that you're looking for vehicles that have standard automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning because i just did a recent study that we covered on on consumerreports.org where they looked at you know are there certain crash scenarios where women are at more of a benefit or more of a disadvantage and so women are more likely to be injured in front of your crashes and so you want to make sure you do have standard aeb standard fcw and you also want to make sure that you're looking for cars that score good in the ihs moderate frontal overlap test or their site and their site impact test so really making sure you choose a vehicle that performs well in the crash tests that are currently available as well as has these advanced safety features are it's going to give you the safest vehicle for yourself now and like we've talked about you know even earlier in this episode you want to make sure that you know when you test drive your vehicle that you are able to fit that seat belt properly because as we said that is your first line of defense you want to make sure that your driving position is good you know these are all the things that matter and kind of provide this holistic um safety for you as a driver so that's that's the best thing we can tell you for now again wrapping it back around to you know as a short driver jenny may look for the adjustability right gabe she might need that four-way lumbar you bet yeah great answers great answers our next question comes from mike on long island not far away mike this podcast has pointed out the advantages of skateboard chassis designs and evs with their battery running the length of the bottom of the car but i wonder about the risk of taking an electric vehicle through a flooded road would an eevee that might have some bumps and dings underneath run the risk of a short or a fire uh gabe is our eevee expert what do you got for mike most evs uh these days uh have a battery management system that is uh and thermal management system that's a liquid liquid cooled and so the battery is is surrounded by liquid anyway and it has to be uh completely uh sealed and waterproof and all the the battery and the all high voltage components are completely uh protected uh from any water so you have nothing to worry about when you uh are encountered with a flooded road and even to a depth of foot a foot and a half nothing to worry about that said though i wouldn't uh dare waiting into a swamp where you don't know what might be lurking under the surface there uh you certainly don't want to risk rupturing the battery because that can lead to uh tens of thousands of dollars of damage right and to your point with the crazy weather we have lately that you know certainly avoiding the flooded road is a good thing and in the first place you know we've we've always said if you don't know how deep that is don't even try because you watch these this footage of people just being swept away by the current of some of these you know flooded roads and heavy rains it's scary scary our last question comes from joel in new york city i am a fourth year medical student and about to graduate in a few months wow amazing joel congratulations attending school in new york city meant i had little need for a car but now that i'm heading to detroit for residency i was wondering what your thoughts are on buying used versus leasing an affordable car what makes more financial sense for a student coming out of college for reference my budget for a used car is about twelve thousand dollars emily being a doctor yourself not a medical doctor but a doctor yourself what is your advice for joel so my best friend is a medical doctor um and when she was in residency i was just thinking about it listening to joel's question i would want her to have a reliable vehicle right so she's not like getting stranded somewhere late at night on the way back home after a long shift or on her way in anything like that um i i'd want her to have the driver assistance systems that are available now right like i would think that those would be super important things like the automatic emergency braking forward collision warning blind spot monitoring um even things like lane keeping assistance where you know it provides you that steering assistance to stay in your lane um or you know a lane departure warning that if you're starting to drift as you're getting tired if you're trying to drift that it's going to alert you to to get back into your lane driver monitoring systems you know those are the things that i think whether you're looking to lease or buy used that you should have at the forefront of your mind because you know having a vehicle that's going to protect you and help you protect yourself is going to be really important so that would be my advice look for standard safety features yeah you hear the stories about the the hours of residency and you know the coffee and the leaf little brief nap so i you know and depending on how far away joel lives from where his residency is that could be a very comfortable time to just kind of fall asleep maybe even gabe any thoughts on the financial part the leasing versus buying for joel yeah it's a financial question as much as there's a car question and uh i i agree with emily for the peace of mind and the the current safety systems uh you'd want something new but then you are into a lease and you're committed to uh you're on the hook for two 300 hours a month for the next three years at the end of which we have nothing so uh on the other hand you can uh use the budget you have and uh for you know the a reliable practical kind of car i would probably uh try to find a circa 2016 toyota rav4 and that should serve you well but if you're someone who you know has you know likes cars and likes driving a little bit then uh i'd uh maybe go for a 2013 volkswagen gti to just have some fun uh in between those uh shifts but then you're uh you're weighing some uh spotty reliability and uh and other issues yeah and right now okay correct the used car market is hot so it can be more difficult to find these vehicles it is and prices uh tend to be high higher than the uh the official prices yeah and so i i was kinda and again i i look back at my own personal um i was kind of leaning the leasing way kind of combining what emily was saying you know getting all of those protective advanced safety features and depending on how long joel's residency is going to be i had to look it up i'll be honest you know three years for some of the um basic there's any medical residency basic probably not but some of them can go five eight years depending on if you're doing surgery and stuff but if you could lease get the newer vehicle keep the payment within reasonable and use your twelve thousand dollars maybe by the time your residency is done which may or may not be where you settle permanently for a practice um then you just let the lease go but you've kept the very reliable lots of safety features car it's very similar to what we did for my daughter at college again i've told the story released this subaru impreza that had all the eyesight all those protective features she's graduating in may and the lease ends so we're still on the you know we think she's gonna buy that car after the lease but um it was a perfect timetable so again joel it may depend on how long you think you are going to be in detroit elise may or may not work or how close you are to the hospital where you'll be working because they have mileage limitations so i would opt for the lease if the timing works so um yeah great question um and again we come wrap it back around everything's very individualized via lumbar or emily needing her quiet mom cabin or everything so um as always we appreciate you watching keep the questions coming talking cars at icloud.com and thanks for watching thanks for listening and we'll see you next time i kind of said thank you thank you thank you multiple times foreignthis week we give our final test results of the 2021 genesis gv80 we share our car comfort pet peeves and our evs more familiar similar looking things to operate again it's one of these cars where driving the car is very very different from operating the controls inside because i also driving the car is really really good i mean when are we talking about an suv that has a little bit of sportiness to it and that powertrain quite frankly you could be in trouble because you look down and see the speed you're going and it's effortless like it's so smooth let me just uh make one thing clear that we have nothing against uh rotary gear selectors uh i mean we see them in fords in chryslers in uh jaguar land rovers but somehow uh in your muscle memory you got used to the fact that you turn it all the way to the left and you expect to get park and then you have you know reverse drive two clicks you can do it without looking but in the genesis it's different because the park is a separate button and if you're not aware of that then it's that can invite trouble and you know many people are probably saying at this point if you owned the car you'd get used to it but we actually had the discussion many of the aspects of this particular gear selector we're not sure even over time that your muscle memory because of the odd way it detents the way it catches but that's you know something we surely talked about on this car and these are things too like kind of going back to the comfort that we were talking about before in the test drive you know when when my husband was getting um his a3 and he went for his test drive i told him i was like make sure you try to like fiddle with the radio and like you know see where you know the different um controls are even things as simple as you know where's your windshield wiper um stock where's you know the the turn signal stock um the things that you normally need to be able to get to your headlights if you find that it's like not intuitive for you and you know or that it is uncomfortable like that's something to take into consideration before you purchase a vehicle absolutely so so kind of a dichotomous vehicle certainly we have all the final test results of the 2021 gb 80 at consumerreports.org so check them out for yourselves so before moving on just uh inform or remind about the talking cars donation program as you may know consumer reports is non-profit all of the dollars for all of the testing we do um all of the content we do the show come from either memberships or donations so anything you can give is most appreciated cr.org slash give talking cars to make a donation and we much appreciate it so moving on to your questions keep them coming 30 second video clips text messages um talking cards at icloud.com are one of our favorite parts of the show of course um so our first questions comes from jenny in reston virginia i am ready to replace my 2003 subaru forester and recently re-read the consumer reports article about the failure to crash test cars with dummies designed to simulate women's bodies i am a five foot tall woman and would like to know if any cars are rated safer for women when in a crash or have been tested with women's bodies in mind so emily jenny sounds like a stature closer to you so do you have do you have good advice advice for jenny yeah so um for to kind of frame it uh so you are aware of what is available in the current crash test programs right you have your regulatory testing that happens right in order for a vehicle to be able to be sold in the u.s so there is crash testing there and then you have your consumer information programs ihs and the nitsa new car assessment program the ncat program so there are some specific crashes that do have um the fifth female fifth percentile female crash test dummy involved so the end cap side pole test has a fifth female as the driver and that's the only dummy in the vehicle and the ihs side impact test has um a fifth female driver and a fifth female left outboard uh rear passenger so those are the only two tests that have female dummies in the vehicle currently right oh and there's also the end cap full frontal barrier test where there's a fifth female in the front passenger seat so there are some vehicles or there are some tests that do have a female crash to stemi there are no crash tests that have an average sized female dummy and unfortunately the fifth female dummy really is scaled down from the 50th male right so in the new um dummy families that are coming out the new fifth female thor dummy is going to be based off of actual uh female physiological data so that's going to be really great really the best advice to give you jenny is even though the we haven't had an average size female crash test dummy women have still benefited from all the safety improvements that have happened to vehicles over time and so what you really want to do is you want to make sure that you're looking for vehicles that have standard automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning because i just did a recent study that we covered on on consumerreports.org where they looked at you know are there certain crash scenarios where women are at more of a benefit or more of a disadvantage and so women are more likely to be injured in front of your crashes and so you want to make sure you do have standard aeb standard fcw and you also want to make sure that you're looking for cars that score good in the ihs moderate frontal overlap test or their site and their site impact test so really making sure you choose a vehicle that performs well in the crash tests that are currently available as well as has these advanced safety features are it's going to give you the safest vehicle for yourself now and like we've talked about you know even earlier in this episode you want to make sure that you know when you test drive your vehicle that you are able to fit that seat belt properly because as we said that is your first line of defense you want to make sure that your driving position is good you know these are all the things that matter and kind of provide this holistic um safety for you as a driver so that's that's the best thing we can tell you for now again wrapping it back around to you know as a short driver jenny may look for the adjustability right gabe she might need that four-way lumbar you bet yeah great answers great answers our next question comes from mike on long island not far away mike this podcast has pointed out the advantages of skateboard chassis designs and evs with their battery running the length of the bottom of the car but i wonder about the risk of taking an electric vehicle through a flooded road would an eevee that might have some bumps and dings underneath run the risk of a short or a fire uh gabe is our eevee expert what do you got for mike most evs uh these days uh have a battery management system that is uh and thermal management system that's a liquid liquid cooled and so the battery is is surrounded by liquid anyway and it has to be uh completely uh sealed and waterproof and all the the battery and the all high voltage components are completely uh protected uh from any water so you have nothing to worry about when you uh are encountered with a flooded road and even to a depth of foot a foot and a half nothing to worry about that said though i wouldn't uh dare waiting into a swamp where you don't know what might be lurking under the surface there uh you certainly don't want to risk rupturing the battery because that can lead to uh tens of thousands of dollars of damage right and to your point with the crazy weather we have lately that you know certainly avoiding the flooded road is a good thing and in the first place you know we've we've always said if you don't know how deep that is don't even try because you watch these this footage of people just being swept away by the current of some of these you know flooded roads and heavy rains it's scary scary our last question comes from joel in new york city i am a fourth year medical student and about to graduate in a few months wow amazing joel congratulations attending school in new york city meant i had little need for a car but now that i'm heading to detroit for residency i was wondering what your thoughts are on buying used versus leasing an affordable car what makes more financial sense for a student coming out of college for reference my budget for a used car is about twelve thousand dollars emily being a doctor yourself not a medical doctor but a doctor yourself what is your advice for joel so my best friend is a medical doctor um and when she was in residency i was just thinking about it listening to joel's question i would want her to have a reliable vehicle right so she's not like getting stranded somewhere late at night on the way back home after a long shift or on her way in anything like that um i i'd want her to have the driver assistance systems that are available now right like i would think that those would be super important things like the automatic emergency braking forward collision warning blind spot monitoring um even things like lane keeping assistance where you know it provides you that steering assistance to stay in your lane um or you know a lane departure warning that if you're starting to drift as you're getting tired if you're trying to drift that it's going to alert you to to get back into your lane driver monitoring systems you know those are the things that i think whether you're looking to lease or buy used that you should have at the forefront of your mind because you know having a vehicle that's going to protect you and help you protect yourself is going to be really important so that would be my advice look for standard safety features yeah you hear the stories about the the hours of residency and you know the coffee and the leaf little brief nap so i you know and depending on how far away joel lives from where his residency is that could be a very comfortable time to just kind of fall asleep maybe even gabe any thoughts on the financial part the leasing versus buying for joel yeah it's a financial question as much as there's a car question and uh i i agree with emily for the peace of mind and the the current safety systems uh you'd want something new but then you are into a lease and you're committed to uh you're on the hook for two 300 hours a month for the next three years at the end of which we have nothing so uh on the other hand you can uh use the budget you have and uh for you know the a reliable practical kind of car i would probably uh try to find a circa 2016 toyota rav4 and that should serve you well but if you're someone who you know has you know likes cars and likes driving a little bit then uh i'd uh maybe go for a 2013 volkswagen gti to just have some fun uh in between those uh shifts but then you're uh you're weighing some uh spotty reliability and uh and other issues yeah and right now okay correct the used car market is hot so it can be more difficult to find these vehicles it is and prices uh tend to be high higher than the uh the official prices yeah and so i i was kinda and again i i look back at my own personal um i was kind of leaning the leasing way kind of combining what emily was saying you know getting all of those protective advanced safety features and depending on how long joel's residency is going to be i had to look it up i'll be honest you know three years for some of the um basic there's any medical residency basic probably not but some of them can go five eight years depending on if you're doing surgery and stuff but if you could lease get the newer vehicle keep the payment within reasonable and use your twelve thousand dollars maybe by the time your residency is done which may or may not be where you settle permanently for a practice um then you just let the lease go but you've kept the very reliable lots of safety features car it's very similar to what we did for my daughter at college again i've told the story released this subaru impreza that had all the eyesight all those protective features she's graduating in may and the lease ends so we're still on the you know we think she's gonna buy that car after the lease but um it was a perfect timetable so again joel it may depend on how long you think you are going to be in detroit elise may or may not work or how close you are to the hospital where you'll be working because they have mileage limitations so i would opt for the lease if the timing works so um yeah great question um and again we come wrap it back around everything's very individualized via lumbar or emily needing her quiet mom cabin or everything so um as always we appreciate you watching keep the questions coming talking cars at icloud.com and thanks for watching thanks for listening and we'll see you next time i kind of said thank you thank you thank you multiple times foreign\n"
