iOS 13.6 Released - What's New

**A Comprehensive Review of iOS 13.6: What to Expect and Why You Should Update**

iOS 13.6 is the latest update from Apple, and as with any new software release, there are several features and improvements that users can look forward to. In this review, we'll take a closer look at what's new in iOS 13.6 and why you should consider updating your device.

**Performance Boosts: What You Can Expect**

One of the notable improvements in iOS 13.6 is a performance boost, which may not be noticeable for everyone but is still worth mentioning. According to Geekbench scores, iOS 13.6 outperforms its predecessor, iOS 13.5.1, with higher multi-core scores and improved overall performance. While this may not be a major increase in performance, it's still a welcome change for users who experience lag or slowdowns on their devices.

**No Major Issues, Just a Stable Update**

Another advantage of updating to iOS 13.6 is the lack of significant issues that plagued previous updates. Unlike iOS 13.5.1, which was criticized for battery drain on older iPhones, including the iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 13.6 seems to be a more stable and reliable update. Users who have already updated to iOS 13.5.1 can expect a smoother user experience with fewer bugs and glitches.

**Battery Life: The Real Game-Changer**

The biggest benefit of updating to iOS 13.6 is the potential fix for battery drain on older iPhones, particularly those running iOS 13.5.1. As we discussed earlier, many iPhone 7 Plus owners reported experiencing extreme battery drain after updating to iOS 13.5.1. While it's not yet confirmed whether this issue will be fully resolved with iOS 13.6, the update is definitely worth trying out. Even for newer devices, users can expect improved battery life and fewer instances of power consumption spikes.

**Other Features and Improvements**

In addition to performance boosts and a more stable update, iOS 13.6 also introduces several new features and improvements. These include:

* **Customizable Automatic Updates**: Users now have the option to choose when their devices receive automatic updates, allowing for greater control over when their devices are updated.

* **Apple News Audio Tab**: A new feature that allows users to listen to news articles as podcasts.

* **Improved Health App**: The Health app has been updated with new features, including symptoms tracking and other health-related enhancements.

**Who Should Update?**

Based on the improvements and new features introduced in iOS 13.6, we recommend updating your device if you're running an older version of iOS or experience issues with battery drain. Even for newer devices, the update offers several benefits, including improved performance, more stable software, and new features that enhance the user experience.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, iOS 13.6 is a solid update that addresses several concerns and introduces new features that users will appreciate. While some may not notice a significant difference in performance, the potential fix for battery drain on older iPhones makes it an attractive option. Whether you're running an older version of iOS or experience issues with your device, we recommend updating to iOS 13.6 and exploring the new features and improvements it offers.

**Test Results: Stay Tuned**

In our next follow-up video, we'll provide a detailed analysis of the battery life on the iPhone 7 Plus after updating to iOS 13.6. We'll also share our experiences with the new features introduced in the update and provide an overall assessment of the software's performance and user experience.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys my name is Brandon and apple just released iOS 13 point 6 over a month after the last public release which was iOS 13 point five point one and just a few weeks after the first beta of iOS 14 so as always in this video I'm gonna be covering everything that's new talking about the performance the battery life the connectivity and more so first off you can see these size here on my iPhone 7 plus was three point three gigabytes so of course the size will be pretty large if you're coming from thirteen point five point one or a previous version this device is actually coming from thirteen point three so that's why it is a little bit larger but of course that size will vary depending on your device and at the firm where you're coming from and we'll talk about the iPhone 7 plus a little bit later on in this video because there were some issues on at thirteen point five point one with this device but anyways I do also have thirteen point six on my iPhone 10's max here as well so let's go ahead and check out the build number for this latest release four go to Settings General about thirteen point six if you see there the build number is 17 G six eight so if we scroll down a little bit we do also have a new modem firmware there as well at two point zero seven point zero zero so if you were having any type of connectivity issues those may be solved in this new updates so now what's new in iOS thirteen point six and the first feature is actually a pretty big one for the future of iOS and the future of cars and that is car key so car key is a feature that was just introduced with iOS thirteen point six that's gonna allow you to lock unlock and start your car via NFC so basically what it does is it generates a virtual key and the wallet application that you can share with other people and of course it's there for yourself as well and it will do all those functions for your car just by simply tapping it up against the car now this does only start off with the new BMWs the higher-end BMWs as you can see we have the BMW i8 here in this leaked screenshot that came out before iOS 13 point 6 was released but this is what the interface will look like so it shows like you have Express mode right here and if we go over this is what it looks like in the wallet application so it'll show your car right there which is pretty neat and then you also have this right here we can set the access type for the car key so you can see there we have trunk access access only so it unlocks the car only or access and drive where you can unlock the car and drive it as well so this basically just allows you to set certain limits for what a person can do with your car if you share the car key with them so this is definitely a pretty neat feature it's not quite as advanced as the Tesla application is you know for everything you can do with the Tesla app but it is still pretty neat it is going to be irrelevant to most people right now but in the future it will be very very popular I have a strong feeling about that we also get a new tab in the news application so you can see down here at the bottom we have a new tab called audio and this is new for Apple news plus audio so if you are an Apple News Plus subscriber you do get access to the new audio section which is basically like podcasts for the news articles so they will read them to you and everything like that but of course you do get little previews as well so if you wanted to see how it works before purchasing Apple news plus or you know getting your first month free you can't go ahead and do that and you can kind of see how the interface looks so it pops up down here at the bottom you tap on that and you can do everything from in here and you get like a minute minute and a half preview of whatever article you're trying to listen to and of course you get your you know back 15 seconds you can speed up the speed down here as well it's very similar to the podcasts application but that has new here now in Apple News plus it's pretty neat and I can definitely see this being useful for a lot of people and kind of just makes it worth buying Apple News Plus now I didn't really have a reason to want Apple News Plus in the past but this new audio tab actually makes me somewhat consider it also if we go into our settings and go to general software update you'll see that we have a new section up here it's called customize automatic updates and from here we can now choose if you want to download and install maybe if we want to just download and not install the iOS update we could do that as well so now you can install or you can download rather iOS updates without them automatically installing after they finish also in the health application we get a new section here called symptoms and this will allow you to add all these different symptoms here so that your medical professional or your doctor can see any kind of symptoms you've been dealing with and that could really help diagnose you know a sickness or a disease or whatever you may have they will be able to see anything you were having beforehand and you can see when you go in here you charts showing you know when this has been going on severe moderate mild present not present you could do it for all kind of things in here as you can see we have headache you know fever constipation chills you know appetite changes pretty much everything in here which is very very nice and this is definitely a nice step forward for the health application which is just constantly evolving and improving with time so this is a very very powerful application especially now with the way the world is being able to do this all virtually and you know for having your health professional be able to see all this information is just great now we also see a lot of improvements and bug fixes here and that big change log for iOS thirteen point six as well so I'll just briefly run through a couple of these so you can see this one here says address is an issue that could cause apps to become unresponsive when syncing data from iCloud Drive I never had that but that could be an issue that's now fixed fixes an issue that could cause data roaming to appear to be disabled on ECM even though it remained active addresses an issue that could interrupt audio when making phone calls over Wi-Fi calling now I have had multiple people report issues with Wi-Fi calling and thirteen point five point one so it appears that is now fixed in thirteen point six fixes an issue and you can see there's a little typo there fixes and issues that prevented some iPhone 6s and se devices from registering for Wi-Fi calling so once again another improvement to Wi-Fi calling there resolves an issue that could cause the software keyboard to appear unexpectedly when connected to certain third-party hardware keyboards now that's another issue that I personally had as well on at my iPad Pro when I was running iOS 13 point five point one on it or iPad OS thirteen point five point one and then we have these final two right here addresses stability issues when accessing control center when assistive touch was enabled and then provides a mechanism for administrators to specify domains to exclude from traffic carried by always-on VPN connections now speaking of VPN connections we still have not heard if the VPN vulnerability has been fixed so if you guys remember back in I believe iOS 13 point for proton VPN a company released an article showing that there is a vulnerability a bug with VPNs and iOS basically saying that not all of the traffic is going through the VPN and some of it is getting leaked out and just not going through the VPN which could be a threat if you're you know dealing with very sensitive data so I would just be aware of that and I will let you guys know if proton bpn releases an update and tells us it's been fixed or not but it was definitely not fixed and thirteen point five point one as confirmed by proton VPN so we will see what is thirteen point six but Apple still did not address it in the changelog so I wouldn't get my hopes up for that being fixed and we don't have these security updates yet showing any kind of security bugs that have been fixed and I rest our team point six but I'm sure there are some and I will leave that linked down in the description below as well and of course these security updates are always a reason to upgrade but anyways let's talk about the performance now in iOS thirteen point six of course I have been using the GM here on my iPhone 10s Mac's which is the exact same as the final build for over a week now or about a week now and the performance has been rock rock solid really no issues at all no crashes no lag no respring really nothing at all to complain about which is great news but it's kind of expected I mean it's a point six update iOS 14 betas are out iOS 14 the final versions gonna be released here in a few months so it's kind of expected but it is really nice to see a stable version of iOS 13 especially after everything we've gone through throughout the past year I mean it's been a very big roller coaster a lot of issues with iOS 13 but now it seems like it's finally you know just great and really nothing to complain about it was kind of the same with thirteen point five point one as well so going from thirteen point five point one to thirteen point six you probably won't notice a major increase in performance however if we take a look at the Geekbench scores you can see that we are scoring higher than thirteen point five point one and at the multi-core score right there so even Geekbench says that we do get a performance boost here and thirteen point six but it's probably not gonna be too noticeable unless you just have issues on thirteen point five point one which if you were having issues of course always update because those could be fixed if you don't have any issues on thirteen point five point one I would still probably update to thirteen point six at this point because there's really not too much that can go wrong this way into the iOS cycle so we'll see we'll talk about that at the end of this video but anyways let's talk about the battery life because this is actually pretty important for thirteen point six because in thirteen point five point one and this is what I was talking about earlier in the video get back to is the iPhone 7 plus had a lot of issues on thirteen point five point one notably with battery drain so a lot of people especially in my family because a lot of my family members have the iPhone 7 plus have reported extremely bad battery drain in thirteen point five point one and it only happened after they updated to thirteen point five point one so I went ahead and asked everybody on my discord server and in other places and comments and pretty much everybody else has the same issue that has an iPhone 7 plus so iOS thirteen point six could very well fix the battery drain issue I will let you guys know in my follow-up video next week when I post that but I would think that the battery drain would be fixed here in thirteen point six since it just popped up out of nowhere for thirteen point five point one so if you do have an iPhone 7 plus let me know if the battery drain has been fixed here and thirteen point six I am very curious and of course I will be testing it out on my iPhone 7 plus as well I let you guys know next week but as far as the battery life on every other device it's been great I mean especially on the iPhone 10s max here over the past week battery life has been excellent it has been slightly better than thirteen point five point one of course I am using iOS 14 now more than any other software so I haven't used it a ton but I have noticed that I get a little bit better battery life on the iPhone 10's Mac specifically than I did on thirteen point five point one and I would that we haven't seen released yet but your device will be more secure patching those security flaws and of course you get all the new features as well which is always a plus I think a lot of people will like this feature right here we can customize the automatic updates I do also think that car key is going to be cool for some people who the select few people who get a brand new BMW it can use that I think that'll be really cool the Apple News audio tab it's really cool as well if you want to be able to hear the news read to you like a podcast I think that's pretty cool and then of course we have you know the Health application symptoms added and things like that so I think it's a very very worthy update and of course I will update you guys on the battery life on the iPhone 7 plus and just the software overall next week in my follow-up review so stay tuned for that anyways if you guys enjoyed this video I would appreciate if you give this video a thumbs up and of course make sure you subscribe so you don't miss my follow-up video next week of course a lot of iOS 14 coverage as well if you're on the iOS 14 banners now but anyways guys thanks again for watching and I'll see you
