**The Magic of Porsche: A Behind-the-Scenes Look**
We're here at the Porsche factory in Southern California, where they take every part of their process very seriously. They start with a stock 993, stripping it down to the frame and then completely rebuilding the whole car from scratch. The level of detail that goes into these things is mind-boggling, to the point where it's hard to appreciate on camera.
The carbon fiber exoskeleton is massive, and these surfaces are matched to the millimeter. From the bumper to the hood, the hood to the fender, and the fender to the door, every gap is perfect. Even if you have a fully painted body, every single panel is carbon fiber, with a symmetrical weave layup that's really cool.
This is special for the Porsche 993 Carbon Noir Edition – there are no seams or joints, even when coming over to here. What you get is a Porsche 993 that's made in America and built as if it were a supercar. This car makes you feel like you're a really good driver, and if you want that feeling, this is it.
But we just dropped some new pieces – the best stuff ever! Check out the new capsule at shop.doman.media.com. And now, the moment we've all been waiting for... the Porsche 918 Spider!
The 918 Spider is probably one of the most important hypercars in modern history, partially because it was part of the Holy Trinity of hypercars. But also because it was the first production car to go under 7 minutes at the Nurburg Ring. The 918 set a precedent for design and performance to come.
We're now going to drive the 918 Spider – it has a 4.8 L naturally aspirated V8 paired with two electric motors, giving it almost 900 horsepower. It's a hybrid, but that's not used for efficiency; it's used to make power between shifts. And when you get behind the wheel... wow!
Just $3 million worth of parts – okay, oh that's a fast car dude! Oh my god, dude, it just kept pulling. Oh my God, that was insane. Oh dude, the brakes are great too. Oh my God, what is my wife? Oh my God, oh man, oh wow.
What a privilege to get to drive this car – man, absolutely thank you to the owner for sure. Woo boy, what a car! Dude, it's really, really good. It's like it's going to kill you but it's also taking care of you. Yeah, this thing scares me in a good way.
Now, let's see if it's faster than our $3,000 Porsche 94. Gentlemen on three... one... two... three! And somehow it was even worse than I thought it would be – you got a good launch too. You must have done something to my brain when you launched it – I was like "no, no, no, like we had a chance". Thanks for watching this video if you like Porsches check out this video here!
WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enoh my God today we're driving this $3 million 918 spider one of the most expensive Porsches you can buy we're also going to be driving this million 993 a $25,000 Cayman S and almost every price point Porsche in between starting with this 1987 Porsche 924s the front engine monstrosity so when this came out people didn't like it they're like hey what are you guys doing you can't put the engine in the front that's like every other car company you but this was their like entrylevel car to get people into the Porsche family a still German refined vehicle but not as luxurious as you would see in the 911 series but there's nothing here where you're like thinking this thing is cheap by any means yeah for how old this is it feels pretty good now for some context the Porsche 924 was originally conceed by Volkswagen but BW got cold feet about the project after the 1973 oil crisis and eventually sold the rights back to Porsche the car was a big financial success but was criticized for being a Volkswagen parts spin car which you can kind of see in some of the Interior stylings and in the suspension and while it might be a parts spin special it doesn't mean that this thing isn't a blast to drive I've never driven one today's the first day this thing is fun it's not bad I would call this Miata ask it doesn't give you that same cramp feel but it still gives you that like tight low to the ground handling I guess you could say yeah it's got about 160 horsepower and it had a 0 to 60 of about 8 seconds which that's no slous in the 80s I'm about it yeah I'm about it too that entry level Porsche situation sounds very familiar didn't they do something like that recently yeah with the cayenne and people hated on that car for a while and now it's love it yeah all right Justin well I think this car might not be the fastest around this track but we got to set a lap time give it a fair shot let's go lay down a lap time all right we got a $3,000 pors a whole track let's see what Jeremiah can do there we go he's looking pretty slow I got to say but you know what it's probably a lot of fun in there oh they're coming over the crest come on dear 1 minute 40 that's slow dude that's really slow starting to smell stuff a little bit well driving a slow car fast is a lot of fun it sure is but I wonder if we can have more fun with a $25,000 Porsche let's see and now something that looks a little bit more classically Porsche this is a 2006 987 Cayman S this thing has a reputation of being like a poor man's Porsche if that's the case James send me to the soup kitchen give me a line of that sweet sweet powder because I love this car I will drive it all day buy a lot of car parts and other stuff all online and I don't know if you know this but shopping online can lead to your personal data being stored and sold by these creeps called Data Brokers they sell your information to everyone from marketing firms to the government to even criminals sure you can request data Brokers to delete your information to protect your privacy but the process is so complex it could take years and this is where today's sponsor incog can help incog reaches out to data Brokers request a remove of your personal information and deals with any objections so you don't have to you just create an account and give incog the right to work for you with the click of a button I signed up for incog a few days back and now I can see just how many list and cogni is fighting to get me removed from got to admit it feels good seeing that number go up let incog help you take back control of your data prevent attacks and reduce spam by clicking that link below and if you use code donut you'll get 60% off an annual plan today pora introduced the allnew Cayman as a more more sporting fastback coupe in 2006 like the 924 it was seen as a cheap way into a legacy brand it's the entrylevel Porsche but none of that is to say that this car isn't capable even today this thing's got 291 horsepower Mid Engine six-speed transmission and you can get them for less than $20,000 it's insane we always talk about cheat codes 20 grand for this that's a cheat code man imagine you put some coils on it some seats steering wheel I mean really fun track they car this is great I've never been a huge Porsche guy but I've done three laps here at streets in this thing no bull I'm thinking about it and you could do it yeah well one more left you know porer is one of those companies where everything they build has that Motorsports spirit and you can tell that it was meant to go fast on the track this is one of those cars this thing I love this car I don't think we're going to not like a car in this video I think Porsche makes a lot of cars that feel like Porsche imagine that I mean it's easier said than done for the next car on this list we're going to take a step away from the track and head to downtown Los Angeles to see what it's like to drive a $100,000 Porsche that sounds so cool this is a 1971 911t and if it were just that it would cost you somewhere in the ballpark of $100,000 this particular aircooled 911 might cost a little bit more because it's very famous it's owned by infamously long-haired x-fashion designer Urban Outlaw Porsche Enigma Magnus Walker how you doing yeah good I'm so stuck to be here yeah let me show you around for me when it comes to porser it's all about experience in variety so for me my collection is obviously front engined mid engine rear engine both air and water cool so like what is it about the brand that is just like so good like what is that DNA well that DNA is still there it's what I call usable performance and that goes through everything Porsche makes whether it's a boxer all the way up to a tyan and everything in between well we're here to see and drive the car that kind of started it all everyone will recognize this car 277 can you give us a quick walk around and just yeah 277 started Life as a 7 911t i' sort of built it out to look like a 73 RS Carrera which was really popular 2025 years ago it's been built over time with a goal of being what I call a streetable track car I never trailered it to the track it's crazy too how this is like a 71 but the dash still looks like the new like I say that DNA they didn't change it for the first 30 years I mean they really figured it out yeah it was well engineered from day one and they've just improved on that design I mean this is pretty surreal man I got to be honest it is very streetable you can hear it but it's not killing my ears no it's back to that usable performance right wow this just feels like I think a car should feel yeah it's something I'm coming to realize about Porsches already every car we've driven feels completely unique but undoubtedly a Porsche and while saying a Porsche feels like a Porsche might sound like an obvious statement there's no other major car brand that I can think of where a $3,000 car feels like it's in the same company as a $100,000 car but the 911 has come a long way from an aircooled car from the70s let's see what it's like to drive an even more expensive even more modern even more powerful 911 this this car can scare you a little bit you know I'm in a 997.2 GT3 RS owned by my very good buddy Vin you might have seen VIN on another channel uh Vin and I are best friends not a lot of people know that I people don't know we even know each other I know yeah so uh Ben brought his GT3 RS out here to Willow Springs letting me drive it he's not very uh excited about me whipping this thing around you definitely have to have some talent to drive it you got to be like respectful of its like weight transfers and everything but that to me is what driving is all about it's like it's fun because it's hard right now the 997 isn't the newest iteration of the 9 11 but it's probably the most beloved amongst Enthusiast 5-year-olds and even race car drivers like myself now these second gen 3 RS models bump displacement from 3.6 L to 3.8 L and Power by 15 horsepower to 444 total which isn't a mind nummy number but when you pair with all of Porsche's weight saving modifications and emphasized air dynamics you best believe your boy is flying around the tra yeah it's got this like Rowdy feel to it where it's like yo I don't want to be driven like a little baby that's why this car sucks in traffic this car is not meant to drive slow it's a big complaint of people CU you buy these cars and you quickly realize that they're not meant to like sit in traffic and go run groceries they're meant to like be on track well you know what Ben thank you for letting me drive your car I haven't been very spirited in driving it but I am going to be giving it a hot lap here in a bit is that are you okay with that give it a mile lap give it a mile lap don't hot dog I will not hot dog very happy with it we did a uh I don't know what did it say 128 that was really fun but let's see what it's like to drive us through $300,000 car this is the Porsche 911 Dar car and it's the car that I would choose if I needed a 911 that would gobble up terrain like a beaver chomping wood we're getting into the big leagues now Nolan the last car we drove was an extremely purpose-built tool designed to be the best possible daily driver that you can take to the track this 911 car is very similar it is a very purpose built machine the purpose is quite different though this thing is designed to go Offroad will you go everywhere in it probably not but you like the idea that you could so sick that's sweet dude I really like this thing 457 horsepower 420 lb feet of torque this is a lot less gimmicky than I thought that it would feel I agree driving it in snow it just kind of makes sense if I wanted to daily drive a 911 and I lived in Chicago or any other of the numerous places in the world where it snows regularly like this one just makes sense it would be so cool the Porsche 911 Dar was initially inspired by the 953 911 SC a trio of heavily modified group 4 G Series 911s which sported the 959s all-wheel drive system one of which went on to win the 19 1984 Paris darar rally hence the name it was no small feat and it was the first time that a sports car had won the event the darar is based on the current 992 generation Carrera 4 GTS and uses effectively the same upgraded suspension technology as the normal GTS albe it with 2 in more travel to absorb rough riding impacts which is honestly pretty sick when you see it in person this thing is a flex and what's interesting about this car is that it's a higher driving position but it still hasn't lost that sporty feel being in it you don't remember that it's Ed 911 no I think that's what's maybe one of the cooler parts about it is like you can make this thing outlandish but on the inside still doesn't feel insane when we first got here we both mentioned a few times like they're making 2500 of those that's so many but I've totally w0 and gone to like they should make more they should just be an option that you can get course is the coolest car going be this is great how do you beat an off-road 911 how about a 911 made completely out of carbon fiber that cost over a million dollar and is named after someone named Gunther and his work this thing is beautiful it's really beautiful yes this is a Gunther Works 993 has 420 horsepower all carbon fiber it's like a piece of art that is a race car yeah the power to weight ratio is almost in like the perfect Sweet Spot how does it feel in the passenger seat uh actually honestly feels like a really nice race car yeah it's it's bouncy a little but you know it's like but it's well built it's well built yeah wellb built is an understatement for this car I would actually call it something more like obsessive see just a few days ago I actually took a tour of the Gunther Works Factory so I could try to understand just why these 993s are so dang expensive okay let's go okay now here's here's the magic um this is our per area we G works takes every part of their process very seriously to the point where they make almost every single naturally aspirated V8 paired with two electric motors giving it almost 900 hor power so it's a hybrid but that's not used for efficiency it's used to make power between shifts apparently it just like doesn't stop pulling Like Richard Hammond when he drove it was like this is so confusing it has a top speed 21 mph and goes 0 to 60 in 2.3 seconds all right I'm done drooling over this thing time to
