Official HTC One X9, Samsung Galaxy A9 & Samsung Galaxy S7 Launch Date - Android Weekly
Google's Digital Assistant Gets Personalized Recommendations
Google has been working on a new feature that allows its digital assistant to learn and adapt to users' preferences. This means that if you decline a recommendation for a steakhouse because you're a vegetarian, the bot will remember this and avoid referring you to meat-heavy establishments in the future. This could be really interesting for two reasons: one, it not only allows Google to leverage its search capacity but also allows us to personify our digital assistants. While some may scoff at the idea of giving digital assistants human-like qualities, Siri has already shown that people love to personify their virtual assistants, giving them qualities like sassiness, cleverness, humor, and more.
The Galaxy S7 is Coming Soon
According to China Mobile, the Samsung Galaxy s7 will land in China sometime in March, along with the Huawei p9. The Wall Street Journal also recently published lots of information about the Galaxy s7's launch, including mention of a late February unveiling right around the Mobile World Congress as usual. This could mean that sales of the galaxy s7 will begin sooner this time round, potentially going on sale in more countries than the current generation of the Galaxy s6, which was announced on March 1st and went on sale in 20 countries over a month later.
The Galaxy A9 is Official
Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy A9, a new smartphone that sports a six-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. The device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor and comes with 3 gigabytes of RAM and 32 gigabytes of on-board storage. There's also support for microSD expansion, up to 128 gigabytes, and dual SIM card support. The Galaxy A9 features a 13 megapixel rear camera and an 8 megapixel front-facing camera, as well as a large 4000 milliamp hour battery that HTC claims can last for about 15 hours of voice calls over 3G.
HTC One X 9 is Official
HTC has officially announced the One X 9, a new smartphone powered by an octa-core MediaTek processor. The device features a 5.5 inch display and comes with a metal unibody design that's both premium and affordable. The One X 9 sports high-end Helio x10 processor, which is comprised of eight cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.2 gigahertz, paired with the PowerVR 6200 GPU clocked at 700 megahertz. It comes with 3 gigabytes of RAM and 32 gigabytes of internal storage. The One X 9 has a high-quality ultra pixel front camera that's great for low-light conditions and selfie lovers, as well as a 13 megapixel rear camera that's armed with OAS capabilities and 4k video recording.
The Lines Between Flagship and Mid-Tier Devices are Blurring
The latest smartphones from Samsung and HTC show that the lines between flagship and mid-tier devices are blurring. The Galaxy A9 is a high-end device that's priced reasonably, while the One X 9 offers premium features at an affordable price point. This suggests that manufacturers are pushing the boundaries of what we expect from their devices, making it harder to distinguish between flagship and mid-tier smartphones.
