Apple M3 Pro MacBook Pro Unboxing & Benchmarks (Space Black)

The M3 Pro Laptop: An Unboxing and First Impressions

I'm excited to share my unboxing experience with the new M3 Pro laptop, which I've been eagerly waiting for. As I unwrapped the box, I was immediately struck by its sleek design. The laptop has a beautiful, black finish that seems both premium and understated at the same time. I have to say, it's a real head-turner – I'm getting my fingerprints all over it, but they seem to be disappearing quickly, leaving no marks behind.

Inside the box, I found various accessories, including a color-matching cable, a MagSafe USB-C port, and an SD card slot. The MagSafe cable is a nice touch, as it's designed to work seamlessly with Apple devices. The laptop also features a 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display with a 120Hz refresh rate – I think this is one of the best displays on any laptop, hands down.

As I powered up the M3 Pro for the first time, I was immediately impressed by its performance. I ran some initial benchmarks using Geekbench 6 to get an idea of how it stacks up against other laptops on the market. According to the results, which were impressive to say the least, the M3 Pro's single-core score is around 3,85, while its multi-core score is a respectable 15,156.

In comparison, the same model running last year's M2 Pro chip scored around 2,800 in single-core tests and 15,552 in multi-core tests. This means that the M3 Pro is actually performing slightly better than its predecessor – albeit not by a huge margin. The M1 Ultra chip, on the other hand, scores significantly higher across both single and multi-core tests.

I also ran some OpenCL scores for the GPU, which yielded an impressive 51,900 points. This puts it somewhere between the 16-inch MacBook Pro running the same M2 Pro chip and the Mac Mini with a slightly more powerful M2 chip. It's worth noting that the M3 Pro's performance is still impressive, considering it has only one fewer core than the M1 Ultra.

Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed with the M3 Pro laptop. Its sleek design, beautiful display, and seamless performance make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to upgrade their Mac experience. As always, I recommend checking out the benchmarks yourself to see how this machine performs compared to others on the market. In terms of my personal opinion, I think the M3 Pro is a solid choice – but only if you're coming from an older model or are familiar with Apple's ecosystem.

Regulatory Information and Accessories

One thing that caught my attention was the inclusion of regulatory information and guides in the box. While not all users may appreciate this, it's clear that Apple wants to ensure compliance with various regulations around the world. The black stickers on the laptop also add a nice touch – they seem to be a subtle nod to the brand's signature style.

Other notable accessories include a color-matching cable and an SD card slot. While not all users may appreciate these features, they do add to the overall value proposition of this laptop. I must admit that I wish Apple had taken it a step further by including more colors – perhaps something like a unified black-and-white scheme would be nice.

Inside the Box

As I unboxed the M3 Pro, I was excited to see what accessories were included. Alongside the laptop itself, I found a few notable items:

* Color-matching cable: This is a nice touch, as it allows users to ensure that their Apple devices are paired seamlessly.

* MagSafe USB-C port: This is designed to work with Apple's latest devices and is a welcome addition for those who rely on wireless charging.

* SD card slot: This is a great feature for photographers and content creators – it allows them to easily transfer files between the laptop and other devices.

Black Stickers

Inside the box, I also found a few black stickers that add a nice touch to this laptop. While not all users may appreciate these, they do seem to be a subtle nod to Apple's signature style. The fact that they're available for anyone who purchases the M3 Pro makes me wonder – will we see more color options in the future?

Benchmarks

As I ran some initial benchmarks using Geekbench 6, I was impressed by the results. According to the scores, which were released last year, the M3 Pro's single-core score is around 2,800, while its multi-core score is a respectable 15,552.

In comparison, the same model running last year's M2 Pro chip scored:

* Single core: 2,800

* Multi-core: 15,552

These scores put the M3 Pro slightly ahead of its predecessor – albeit not by a huge margin. The M1 Ultra chip, on the other hand, scores significantly higher across both single and multi-core tests.

The Mac Mini with an M2 chip scored:

* Single core: around 5,000

* Multi-core: around 20,000

These scores are impressive, but they also serve as a reminder that there's still room for improvement. The M3 Pro's performance is still excellent, considering it has only one fewer core than the M1 Ultra.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: entoday is the M3 MacBook Pro and M3 iMac launch day I did place an order when the official you know announcement happened of these machines but it was for an M3 Max version and that one's not available yet so I'm actually in New York City right now and I went all the way out to the Grand Central Station Apple Store it's a beautiful store amazing staff there shout out to them uh and I picked up an M3 Pro space black model so that we can run a few benchmarks kind of see where that is in terms of performance and of course check out the new space black color all right just got back from the Apple Store shout out to the staff at the Grand Central Station Apple Store in New York City uh it's a fantastic store never been there really really cool you should definitely check it out and the staff there was really really cool they were super helpful and so we're going to unbox the brand new M3 MacBook Pro this is the M3 Pro variant um because we actually did order an M3 Max a 16in but it has not arrived yet but also there hasn't been a whole lot of of benchmarks and tests surrounding the M3 pro model uh some have been speculating that that might be on purpose Apple sent out to reviewers a lot of M3 Max versions uh perhaps that's just more of the uh impressive uh performance increases compared to the M3 Pro over the M2 Pro so let's just check it out we'll run a couple of benchmarks and see where this machine stands before we unbox it though let's see which model this is so this is the 18 gig uh of ram version with 100 I'm sorry with a 1 TB SSD and it's got a 12 core CPU and an 18 core GPU it is the 14in um again we will have coverage on the M3 Max uh which should be pretty exciting in terms of its performance but let's unbox this here we go and I'm excited to check out the space black in person it is already a lot darker than I anticipated let listen to this a yeah this is a fantastic color when I first saw Apple uh showcase this at the event I was like that just looks like a slightly darker space gray um which I guess is pretty accurate but it's a lot darker than you anticipate definitely from the pr shots it's a lot darker um but I'm really digging this it's supposed to be more fingerprint resistant and uh I can say that's pretty pretty accurate I'm getting my fingerprints all over it and it's like kind of dissipating and you really can't tell um I think this looks incredible I am a huge fan of this really love it real quick inside of the Box you also get uh some you know regulatory information guides but rumors were pointing that uh it's not really rumors we saw other unboxings but yes you do get black stickers so that's pretty cool check that out black Apple stickers for those of you who are interested um and you also get a color matching cable uh this is a MAG safe to USBC see it is a darker color there and then you know I kind of wish Apple would do this but I don't think they ever will um is color match the bricks to make it all unified and black but and also in terms of the the Mac itself nothing has really changed either I mean besides the color this is pretty much the exact same so here you have your mag safe cable uh your mag Safe Port I mean you have two USBC ports and one uh 3.5 millimet headphone jack and then on the other side you have HDMI uh USBC and your SD card slot and then you have your 14-in uh liquid Retina xdr Display it's an it's a beautiful display with promotion uh 120 HZ you do have that Notch up there but um it is a great laptop display probably one of the best in my opinions um and so yeah I'm going to get this thing set up and I'll fire up some benchmarks and let you guys know the results on where this M3 pro model stands compared to some of the other models out there so real quick before we end this video I did want to talk touch on a few benchmarks uh specifically with geekbench 6 just kind of gives us a preliminary Baseline of where this machine is at again this is a 12 core CPU 18 core GPU model with one tab of SSD storage and 18 gigs of RAM a ran geekbench 6 and the scores that we got were 3,85 for single core and 15,156 for multicore now if you go over to the benchmarks for Mac um in single core now this is the data that has been collected by geekbench um and apparently it was last updated 11 hours ago but uh an apple M2 Max chip at 3.7 GHz with 12 cores of CPU and 30 GPU cores uh is right around 2,800 so according to this this is actually off the charts and would kind of rank as the top score um for multicore we do not have the same case this would slot Us in what we were at 15,552 so that would put us right above that same Mac Studio um but underneath the M1 Ultra that has 20 cores so in between those two models for multi-core performance and then we ran open CL score for the GPU which gave us 51,9 3 and that puts us somewhere around here so in between the 16-inch MacBook Pro running the M2 Pro from last year or I guess from earlier this year again right around that 12 core CPU and 19 core GPU so that's about right considering this is one less core um you still are getting roughly the same performance actually you're just getting a little bit better um and it's a little bit below that Max studio which is an M1 Max and then uh in terms of metal Let's see we had 79,3 and if we go here to the metal scores that puts us in between the Mac Mini running M2 Pro with 19 core so you know in between the 19 and 16 GPU core models of that Mac Mini and MacBook Pro running the M2 Pro I take this for what it's worth I mean it's kind of up to you on what you want to kind of put this together and where it might be I've only had this machine for like an hour so very very preliminary but overall love the space black it's pretty much the same machine as everything else before and the performance is probably going to be really good if you're coming from anything older than M2 for sure an M1 definitely Intel uh but then when you start getting into that M2 and M3 or even like an M1 Ultra you're kind of Towing the line here on whether or not you have uh significantly better performance and of course you can check out those scores and yeah let me know in the comments down below what you think about all of this would love to hear your thoughts and if you picked up any of the new machines go ahead and let me know which one down in those comments this has been Dan with Mac Rumors thanks so much for watching and I hope to see you around in the next videotoday is the M3 MacBook Pro and M3 iMac launch day I did
