The Test Drive Experience: An In-Depth Review of the BMW i7

As I put the BMW i7 through its paces, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. The car's sleek design and luxurious interior had already caught my attention, but it was time to see how it handled on the road.

The exterior of the car was certainly stylish, with a rear profile that stood out from the rest. However, upon closer inspection, I found myself preferring the front of the car - it was simply more elegant in my opinion. The side profile, while sleek, lacked a certain je ne sais quoi that made me want to admire it more.

But it was the interior that truly stole the show. As soon as I sat down in one of the seats, I felt enveloped in a blanket of luxury. The material was so soft and comfortable, reminiscent of a plush leather sofa by the fireplace. And the options - oh, the options! $1,000 worth of kit and tech, but every penny of it justified, especially for those with children. Just imagine being able to indulge them with all that luxury on long journeys, watching as they're entertained and happy.

The technology in the car was truly impressive. The screen on the door was like a mini iPhone, allowing me to control everything from temperature to navigation with ease. It made me feel like I was driving my own personal vehicle, rather than being a passenger in someone else's car. And when it came time to get up front and drive, I was struck by how easy it was to maneuver.

Of course, there were also concerns about the i7's performance. With a battery of 120kWh, I didn't expect it to be as nimble or responsive as some of its competitors. But what I did experience was instant acceleration, making this car a real hoot to drive. And with the autonomy features that come as standard, even long journeys became a pleasure.

Now, I know some of you may be thinking about range and efficiency - how will this car hold up over time? Unfortunately, with my limited test drive, I couldn't provide much insight into those aspects just yet. But rest assured, I'll be putting the i7 through its paces for an extended period to get a better sense of how it performs in real-world conditions.

Instant Impressions

In my initial experience with the BMW i7, I was struck by its competence and luxury. It's clear that this car is designed to compete at the highest level in its class - after all, it's going up against some of the most iconic and luxurious cars on the road. But what really stood out to me was how well-balanced this car felt. The instant torque and responsiveness made it a joy to drive, but it also showed a surprising willingness to adapt to changing road conditions.

But let's not forget the i7's size and weight - 2.7 tons of vehicle, after all! It's a big car, and that should come as no surprise. But what really mattered was how well it handled those curves and twisties. The answer? Surprisingly well, if I do say so myself. There were moments when the i7 felt like it was hiding its weight, responding with ease to every input.

Of course, steering is always a concern in big cars - will they feel slow or cumbersome? Not here. The steering was smooth and connected, giving me just the right amount of feedback without feeling too firm or heavy. It's not Porsche-level, perhaps, but for a big saloon car, it was more than satisfactory.

A Final Word

For now, I'll leave you with some final impressions of the BMW i7. As I drove away from my test drive, I felt genuinely pleased and impressed by this car. The exterior design is bold, but not too out there - it's a look that should appeal to most on-road drivers. But it's what happens inside the cabin that truly makes this car special - soft, comfortable seats and a world of technology at your fingertips.

If you're considering taking an i7 for a spin, I'd say go for it. It may not be the cheapest option in its class, but trust me when I say that the experience is worth every penny. With its instant acceleration, autonomy features, and genuinely impressive ride quality, this car is one to beat - and one that'll make you smile long after the test drive is over.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enI didn't expect that I didn't expect that hey guys and welcome to petrop ped and welcome to the all electric BMW i7 an executive Saloon with over 500 horsepower looks that we could need to have a conversation about but onboard Tech that will simply blow your mind I think it's safe to say that in recent years BMW styling has become quite edgy and controversial especially with their all electric vehicles when the BMW ex launched there were just shouts from everybody about the styling but if you put the The Styling of that vehicle to one side which by the way it's grown on me and I don't mind so much it's an exceptional vehicle to drive they're absolutely brilliant and this i7 well this is the first time I've really spent any time with the i7 and and I'm not a massive fan of the front end styling it's not the grills I'm bored of people moaning about BMW grills anymore get over it they're like that I actually got used to them a couple of years ago and I don't mind them anymore for me the bit that challenges me about this car is the headlight configuration this kind of twin setup here I just I'm just not convinced by that top uh headlight there and I don't know it just spoils the front of the car for me but I am prepared to put that to one side because if this drives anything like thex I'm in for a good day now this is the all electric executive Saloon from BMW and I think this car is as much about a car for someone to be driven in as it is to drive now sadly I don't have a chauffeur with me today so I'm going to have to be doing all the driving myself but I have a feeling I'm going to be spending quite a lot of time in this review sat in the back seats of this car because it's got some amazing Tech in there it's a really very cool place now good news on The Styling front is around the back it's really lovely I just think it's a smart looking car from the back it does have an absolutely cavernous boot space it's huge and therefore really usable however let's talk some numbers shall we uh this is the 60 so the fast one the biggest powerful one 400 KW now in old money that's 536 horsepower that will get this car up the road it's got the X drive system so four-wheel drive not to 64.7 seconds and that's impressive because this car weighs ready for it 2.7 tons it's got just over a 100 KW hour battery pack it's a big old hos this but performance-wise very impressive range you should get just over 300 Mi of range apparently now sadly today I'm not going to be able to drive the car long enough to put that to the test but all of those numbers stack up because this being a kind of limousine Saloon executive car the use profile isn't going to be running to the shops and back it's going to be going to meetings running you to the airport dropping you off at special events you're going to need that kind of range but externally very nice I'll tell you a bit more about the spec once we jump inside let's have a look in the back seats because it's really cool really really cool I'm like a giddy kid there's just too much technology to play with oh yeah this is so nice now unfortunately the sun's quite strong today so apologies for that but let me try and explain just how lovely this rear cabin is I mean for me it's up there with the best rear cabins I've sat in and and that includes a Rolls-Royce Phantom by the way the seats super super comfortable but the really cool thing is on each door there's a little screen it looks a little bit like an iPhone you even swipe up to start it and you've got all of your your your controls here I've got individual climate controls I have my own climate control menu but I've also got a seating menu now I can I've got um full seat adjustment I've got massage seats I've got seat climate control but if I if I just start let me just move the seat look oh so imagine you got a really long journey I've got Joe driving me around and I can just lie back like this and just oh that's so nice this little pillow is lovely as well so first up loads of room loads of comfort then I'm on my journey I get a bit bored I know I'd like to watch TV so I don't have to get an iPad out or anything oh no not in this car so I go into my little menu and I go display fold down I've got shutters come up on all the windows a full widescreen TV comes down from the ceiling and now I can sit in here and watch the T box it's just Mega absolutely amazing it's just a like I said this is a vehicle to be driven in you'd be if you were driving it you'd be missing out on all this cool stuff in the back I can even lift this little slide there I've got my little USBC Port there um I've got my own phone controls on here I've got a wireless charge mat down there it's just absolutely lovely I've got full control control of all the blinds so if I want the blinds to come up or down I can I've got a full pan roof in this um I've got a pan roof closed so I can watch the TV but it's just it's just so nice so yeah maybe I'll just kind of chill in here and who needs to review cars anyway I could just sit here and just fall asleep it's been a long week so far anyway uh I've got work to be done so if I just hit display hit fold up so cool so cool it's so nice in here now interestingly you can't put the rear TV screen down when my seat's fully back as a passenger there's a button on the um roof console here to do that from the driver's seat but first up you've got the ubiquitous curved BMW display which I really like and then the choice of materials in here it's very pre premium as you would imagine beautiful leather clad steering wheel you got this gloss wood finish here and on the rear of the seat I like that a lot now this kind of angular Crystal machine th that is not for me at all that is far far too bling for me I'm not a big fan of that and then things like the nice speaker grills on the Bowers and Wilkin stereo all in all beautiful beautiful cabin you've got a a little Crystal controller for the iDrive system I like that a lot let's talk spec because as you can well imagine these aren't cheap but then I never said they would be um so the full name for this car is a BMW g70 i7 X drive 60 M sport 7 Series it's nice and snappy that uh base price for one of these things uh is 117 12,000 of your British pounds that's a lot but this car car has nearly £4,000 worth of options on it woo so we have a look now no surprise really the main thing is what's happening in the back so the three big ticket items on the spec of this press car um first up that BMW theater screen that is £4,400 and the rear Comfort pack which is all the lovely seats with their ventilation multi-function all the blinds and the massage functions and everything that's just over five ,000 so all that rear seat luxury I was going on about that's 10 grand but I reckon that's 10 grand well spent cuz it's wicked and then the other thing this car's got more of an external Aesthetics thing it's got the M sport pro pack which is just shy of £3,000 2,890 quid M sport brakes with dark blue calipers sun protection glass this lovely leather steering wheel um the little spoiler on the back really nice so what that basically means um is the purchase price of this vehicle uh 132,00 but that's clearly a huge amount of money but compare that with a Rolls-Royce Phantom or a Rolls-Royce Wraith that's actually quite good money because this for me very very similar kind of car very similar kind of tech I know it's not got the badge of Rolls-Royce but actually I know quite a few people with lots of money who have people drive them around and they actually have a seven series rather than a Rolls-Royce because it just flies under the radar a little bit final thing before we go driving um I've just noticed that this car is on 99% of its battery and it has 278 M of indicated range now this is a press car which will have been driven within an inch of its life quite quite enthusiastically by journalists so I reckon that's probably you could go a little bit more than that if it had been driven normally it's quite warm at the moment still here in the UK so I think that 300 just over 300 mil range is is perfectly attainable but I want to see what this cars like to drive cuz I have a feeling it's going to be quite good okay I'm going to do something a bit different apart from driving from inside that building to here I haven't driven this car so let's do a kind of right from the beginning review straight up the uh that display that curve display is really very cool but I should have with a bit of luck a root set in Miss satav resume route guidance yeah that's the one uh route overview nice okay cool and then we've got a little controller there to put it into drive remember I've got right hand lock on so my expectations of this vehicle in the very short amount of time I'm going to get to drive it are I expect it to be very smooth I expect it to be very quiet but it's also a big vehicle this it's from a footprint size it it's big but also 2.7 tons on to Queen Gate Road now for a start the expected drive time is 1 minute she can she can turn off how do I turn her off root suggestions spoken instructions off there you go worst thing ever spoken instructions on satinav especially when you're a YouTuber okay so we're here very near farra airport in fact farra Airport's over there this is the Exhibition Center it's the second time I've been to a BMW Drive event here it's a brilliant venue for uh the logistics and fulfill filming it's not the best for driving just in terms of the roads around here I don't have a huge amount of time with this car and therefore the roads to get to nice roads is a bit tricky so what I want to try and do I just need to get scanned out there with me one second there we go sir perfect thank you damn that means he's got my name and address that means he won't be able to steal the car um so yeah so uh where am I going to go I'm turning ah left excellent so I've got the most amazing head-up display it's basically a head-up display version of the main map just there head-up displays however are incredibly difficult to show on camera CU cameras just generally don't pick them up so well so I've mentioned how much horsepower this car has got 53 30 odd horsepower but it's also got 745 Newton M that's this instant torque you get with any EV platform and I think to put that kind of brutal power and acceleration to the test I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do that today if I'm honest because I'm just not going to have the roads for it you've got this kind of electric noise to make me aware that it's an electric car but apart from that no other noise at all and actually I think that's a real challenge in this segment of car this executive Saloon segment is ride comfort and noise are two hugely hugely important things because when you take the engine away you take the kind of noise blanket away so anything else rattles squeaks road noise tire noise all come to the FL and you can hear them all and my instant opinion on this one is some nice cobbles kind of deals with those really nicely just smoothly runs over those oh dear can you imagine just being sat in the back being wafted to some black tie event catching up on the latest Drive Talk podcast be amazing quick shout out personal shout out um I'm wearing my petrol ped off zip uh fleece today um it's Christmas time soon so if you have a significant other that would like one of these I'll put a link below they're available from Legacy Legends at a very reasonable price I've also got a range of t-shirts some mugs so some nice stocking fillers so head over to Legacy Legends if you want some petrol ped merch as a stocking filler idea for your significant other at Christmas time right and here we go just a bit of a oh oh yeah that's uh that'll do it every time so you drive around in a 30 and you're just mooching around and the car feels nice and gentle and doesn't feel like it wants to kill you or anything but once you get out onto National 60 and you depress the throttle in a vigorous manner it's uh it's quite spectacular should we do that again hold on a minute that's 60 the physics involved in getting 2.7 tons to change speed that quickly wowers now you're going to be turning right there no hopefully not good good this looks promising oh no you just didn't indicate don't worry mate there are indicators on that Audi you know you don't need to use them though Goodness Me I'll just guess which way they're going cuz they're not going to use their indicators S no I'm going to overtake them here you ready yeah this car's really good at overtaking really really good at overtaking that's a little bit more like it now once you're up to speed it's just so smooth the ride quality is exceptionally good but design brief wise that's got to be like I number two or three on the list right if you do an executive Saloon ride quality and ride Comfort has to be right up there along with performance because that performance is going to put a smile on anybody's face now then we've now got a little bit of corner just to feel you can feel the mass of the car but actually it deals to that corner pretty well do you know what it hides its weight really well through the twisties really really well and then when you get on a a bit of road where you can put some squirt on it it gets a wiggle on it certainly does but it's just the way it deals with the road surface and the smoothness of the ride is just brilliant steering I'm not expecting Porsche levels of steering it's a big car it's a big saloon car the steering's got a nice weight to it I'm not getting a massive amount of feel and it's it's it's relatively connected to the front end when you kind of do that the car as it changes Direction that's when the the sheer mass of the car takes over and it kind of dips down but I guess you you know there's only so much you can do to hide the weight of a car right well very brief test drive what are my thoughts of the BMW i7 external looks I way prefer the rear of the car to the front of the car um but if I just put that to one side side profile rear of the car is nice inside this car and let's face it you don't see the outside when you're sat in it this is so much of a car to be sat in and to to be in it wraps you in this blanket of luxury you know it's going to be as soon as you sit on these seats they're so soft I think sometimes modern sports seats in cars they can look great but they're quite hard and quite firm this is like some kind of lovely leather sofa that that you sit in in front of a log fireplace it's beautiful really really comfort and the ones in the back are as well and then you can adjust them and get just in that right position the level of Kit and technology in the back I know it's like £1,000 worth of options but I mean if you've got well if you got kids and you want to spoil them get all that in the back cuz it would make your life oh on a long journey I don't have kids but I can imagine having them going are we nearly there yet for like 4 hours is probably a real pain in the bum if you do that you just you'd never hear from them in fact you get to the destination and they wouldn't want to get out the car it's just fantastic but it's just such a there's so many nice little touches the little touch screen almost iPhone on the door to control all of your stuff it just makes it feel like it's your car you're not a passenger in somebody else's car and then then when you get up front to drive it's veryx like the the thing I loved about thex is it's got It's got a huge amount of performance but its ride quality and and its competence on the road belies its size and its weight and that's exactly what this i7 does now for sure if you on a haul 2.7 tons around at speed that range we talked about 300 miles I noticed that I'm now I've used I'm now 93% of baty and I'm only got 251 M of range left so you know you are going to decimate your efficiency if you drive this car like a hooligan but you just want to all the time because it's turn of pace is instant it's a real hoot to drive and I didn't expect that actually but I can imagine if you've got a long journey and you want to have a nice relaxing this has got all of the autonomous driving features that you would want to just get you in that lovely nice relaxed place when you get to the end of your journey because the journey itself has been a pleasure and I think that's what this car does really really well now I'm going to save other comments about it's you know how what it's like to live with or what that range is really like I can't comment on those today because I haven't driven the car for long enough but first up instant impressions are it's a very very competent car and in that luxury class the luxury EV I know I compared it to a phantom or a wraith I guess I should probably be comparing it to a Rolls-Royce Spectre but sadly I haven't driven one of those yet anyway let me know what you think of the i7 put it in the comments below but if you enjoyed that please give me a thumbs up comments below are always welcome and if you haven't done so already please subscribe to peted for plenty more content to come and I'll see you on the next film guys you and the car feels nice and gentle and doesn't feel like it wants to kill you or anything but once you get out onto National 60 and you depress the throttle in a vigorous manner it's uh it's quite spectacular should we do that again hold on a minute that's 60 the physics involved in getting 2.7 tons to change speed that quickly wowers now you're going to be turning right there no hopefully not good good this looks promising oh no you just didn't indicate don't worry mate there are indicators on that Audi you know you don't need to use them though Goodness Me I'll just guess which way they're going cuz they're not going to use their indicators S no I'm going to overtake them here you ready yeah this car's really good at overtaking really really good at overtaking that's a little bit more like it now once you're up to speed it's just so smooth the ride quality is exceptionally good but design brief wise that's got to be like I number two or three on the list right if you do an executive Saloon ride quality and ride Comfort has to be right up there along with performance because that performance is going to put a smile on anybody's face now then we've now got a little bit of corner just to feel you can feel the mass of the car but actually it deals to that corner pretty well do you know what it hides its weight really well through the twisties really really well and then when you get on a a bit of road where you can put some squirt on it it gets a wiggle on it certainly does but it's just the way it deals with the road surface and the smoothness of the ride is just brilliant steering I'm not expecting Porsche levels of steering it's a big car it's a big saloon car the steering's got a nice weight to it I'm not getting a massive amount of feel and it's it's it's relatively connected to the front end when you kind of do that the car as it changes Direction that's when the the sheer mass of the car takes over and it kind of dips down but I guess you you know there's only so much you can do to hide the weight of a car right well very brief test drive what are my thoughts of the BMW i7 external looks I way prefer the rear of the car to the front of the car um but if I just put that to one side side profile rear of the car is nice inside this car and let's face it you don't see the outside when you're sat in it this is so much of a car to be sat in and to to be in it wraps you in this blanket of luxury you know it's going to be as soon as you sit on these seats they're so soft I think sometimes modern sports seats in cars they can look great but they're quite hard and quite firm this is like some kind of lovely leather sofa that that you sit in in front of a log fireplace it's beautiful really really comfort and the ones in the back are as well and then you can adjust them and get just in that right position the level of Kit and technology in the back I know it's like £1,000 worth of options but I mean if you've got well if you got kids and you want to spoil them get all that in the back cuz it would make your life oh on a long journey I don't have kids but I can imagine having them going are we nearly there yet for like 4 hours is probably a real pain in the bum if you do that you just you'd never hear from them in fact you get to the destination and they wouldn't want to get out the car it's just fantastic but it's just such a there's so many nice little touches the little touch screen almost iPhone on the door to control all of your stuff it just makes it feel like it's your car you're not a passenger in somebody else's car and then then when you get up front to drive it's veryx like the the thing I loved about thex is it's got It's got a huge amount of performance but its ride quality and and its competence on the road belies its size and its weight and that's exactly what this i7 does now for sure if you on a haul 2.7 tons around at speed that range we talked about 300 miles I noticed that I'm now I've used I'm now 93% of baty and I'm only got 251 M of range left so you know you are going to decimate your efficiency if you drive this car like a hooligan but you just want to all the time because it's turn of pace is instant it's a real hoot to drive and I didn't expect that actually but I can imagine if you've got a long journey and you want to have a nice relaxing this has got all of the autonomous driving features that you would want to just get you in that lovely nice relaxed place when you get to the end of your journey because the journey itself has been a pleasure and I think that's what this car does really really well now I'm going to save other comments about it's you know how what it's like to live with or what that range is really like I can't comment on those today because I haven't driven the car for long enough but first up instant impressions are it's a very very competent car and in that luxury class the luxury EV I know I compared it to a phantom or a wraith I guess I should probably be comparing it to a Rolls-Royce Spectre but sadly I haven't driven one of those yet anyway let me know what you think of the i7 put it in the comments below but if you enjoyed that please give me a thumbs up comments below are always welcome and if you haven't done so already please subscribe to peted for plenty more content to come and I'll see you on the next film guys you
