cars abilities. This is--- "D-List".- Integra Type R!Okay, let's just imaginefor a second, all right, let's do a little exercise, all right. It's 2003.You just got a big old bonus, you're like a stockmarket guy or something. And you got one of these bad boys. You flew to England, picked it up at the factory, took a ferry or something,I don't know how,but you're like "I'm gonnadrive it on the Ring."And then all of a suddenyou have to pull to the sideto let a Honda pass you.And not just any Honda.A Honda that's fiveyears old at this point. The Honda Integra type R has always beena race car made to be used on the street.I mean sure it didn't have abig fancy number on the sideor a bunch of sponsoredchips slapped all over, but what it did have was heartand sometimes that's all that counts.Ask me how I know.My heart almost stoppedworking and I almost died. This car has heart. It also had a very affordable price pointfor what it was when it came out. That might be surprisingbecause completely stocklow mileage type Rsare going for like $70,000 today. But when they came outthey were affordable, especially consideringhow capable they were.Featuring the legendary B18C5 motor, the Integra Type R laid the groundworkfor many of the cars that followed itand a lot of the carsthat are on this list.Whilst others on this listmight be faster, more powerful, have better handling, and moresophisticated engineering, none of them have the distinct honorof being my number one pick in"Need for Speed Underground".And with a Ring time of 8:43this hopped up littlecommuter car is fasterthan an Aston Martin DB7.- Renault Megane R26.R!If you're from America like where I amyou might not know anythingabout this funky little French car.Ooh, that's a funky little French car.Basically the Meganeis Renault's sensiblesingle family hatchback. The Megane RS is ahotter hatchier version. But the hottest, mosthatchiest Megane of them allis the RS R26.R.At least in 2009 it was. This petite French garcon, which roughly translatesinto petite French boy, sported an impressive runaround the Nurburgringclocking in at just undereight minutes 17 seconds. Now that's similar to a Porsche Cayman Sor a frickin' Honda NSX.Both those cars are midengine rear wheel drive,AKA supposedly the bestest handling setup. So I guess you can say thatthe Renault done pretty good, and it done pretty goodwith only 227 hrsprs. This of course was thanks in no small partto the R26.R's lightweight design. How lightweight?Well, you know how your carhas things like a radio or a back seator an airbag for your passenger?Well, Renault said"Screw that, we want to go fast."Get rid of all of thatstuff, we want to go fast.""Jusqu'ici tout va bien."I have that tattooed on my arm.Jusqu'ici tout va bien,it means so far so good. But who needs an airbag whenyou ain't got a passengerbecause you have a nearlyeight minute lap timeon the Nurnbergring to keep you safe.Re-next, please.Big, thanks to Off The Recordfor sponsoring this week's episode.I just bought that car from the animeand much like you guys,my plan is to be out allthis 4th of July weekendripping canyons and seeingwhat all 100 of these bluff horses can do.I'm worried about a lotof things with this car,and one of them is having too much funon the highest ticketedweekend of the year.I don't want a bunch of traffic ticketsjacking my insurance rates up.Well protect yourselfagainst any traffic ticketswith the help of off the record. They connect you with a local attorneywho fights traffic tickets on your behalf. They have a 97% success rateand even offer a money back guaranteeif they aren't able to keepyour ticket off your record.Go to offtherecord.com/donutor use the Off The Record appand use code "donut" to get 10% off.Support the companies that support Donutso we can keep making allthese videos for you guys.We really like making themand I hope you like watching them.I'm sorry I shaved my beard, gah!- Seat Leon Cupra.- Spanish car manufacturer Seat,I know it looks like "seat"but it's pronounced Seat. This is a seat. This is a Seat.So Seat has been pumpingout quality hatchbacksfrom their Leon linefor more than a decade, and the Leon Cupra just happenedto be the first hatchbackto dip below the eight minute markedging out some legitimatelylegendary fast carslike the Ruf Yellowbird. Now the Yellowbird was thefastest car in the worldfor seven years. And when I think of the Nurburgring,I think of the Yellowbird. So the fact that thisfront wheel drive baby caris faster than that caris very, very impressive. We're only three cars into this listand we're already faster than that car.I don't want to hear any more hatefor front wheel drive cars, they're cool.I've owned almost exclusivelyfront wheel drive cars.A two liter 276 hrspr engineand a limited slip differentialhelped the Cupra snatchthat hard-fought W.That and having touring cardriver Jordi Gene, Gene?♪ Jordi Gene is not my driver ♪This car was also thefastest front wheel drive carin the world at the timewith a top speed of 155 miles per hour.I think it's safe to say that this carhad other manufacturers onthe edge of their Seats.- RenaultMegane RS 275 Trophy-R!- Oh snap! Our boys at Renault are back at it again. In many ways, the Trophy-Ris sorta like "Rocky II".After being stripped of its title by Seat, picks itself up off the mat, wipes the blood from its mouth, dusts the dirt off of its buff shoulders, and then beats up Carl Weathers. But instead of Carl Weathers it's Seat. And instead of the blood from its mouth,it's the grass from the Nurburbring. There's a lot of grass there. They call it the Green Hell for a reason.Green Hell is a sick name. The Trophy-R came backnearly 230 pounds lighterwith increased power courtesyof a two liter turbo fourcylinder with 271 hrsprs. And like it's older brother the R26.R,it too forwent the crazy modern comforts.Although this model didinclude passenger airbags, because if you're cutting weightyou don't need to putyour friends in danger, you know what I mean?It absolutely destroyed the Seatposting a time of seven 7:54.4,besting the Leon Cupra by anice, tidy exactly four seconds. But the best and mosthilarious part about this caris the engine code.F-4-R-T.AKA (makes fart noises).- Honda Civic Type R!If there were an awardfor mixing affordabilitywith high performance, then the Honda civic would nodoubt take home that title. Now if there is an awardfor being the best sportschannel on YouTube,it would be sitting on my mantle, which it is becauseyou're watching the 2019Streamy award-winning YouTubechannel for sports somehow.- Donut Media.(cheering)- Oh (bleep)!- Whether it was watching"The Fast and Furious",playing "Need for Speed",or simply walking acrossyour high school parking lot, there was a time when you couldnot escape the Honda Civic. When you say tuner car, what do you think of?Honda Civic, nine out of 10 of youjust said a Honda Civic. This particular civic was thefirst turbocharged Type R.It did zero to 60 in 5.7 seconds. It had a top speed of 168 miles per hour.It had 306 hrsprs for Peter's sake. All of that came together topost a Ring time of 7:50.6.In a freaking Civic! This is what the Honda Civiclooked like in the 1970s.What happened? It's like the car version of Nolan.massive self improvement. This is Nolan in 2004, okay. This is Nolan today.- VolkswagenGolf GTI Clubsport S!- Speaking of cars that havebeen around since the 70sand are known for being generally slow, you might be surprised to see a VW Golf,my most favoritest is boy on this list. Now I talked about the widerange of engine optionsavailable in the Golf last weekin our episode about best first cars.If you haven't watched thatI'll put the link inthe description below. But the Golf GTI Clubsport Sis the cream of the crop, the Belle of the ball, the most vascular boy at the entire party.Like the Honda Civicthe Golf has also done alot for tuning culture, being another popular optionas an introductory tuner car.But in the year of 2016Volkswagen power slid onto the scene, and just like the bearswho found Goldie Locksnapping in their home,Volkswagen found everyonenapping in their home of Germanywhere the Nurburgring is.And let's just say theywanted their porridge back.VW made 400 of these limitedseries supped up golfsdubbed the Clubsport S.So how did this humble hatchmanaged to put down a timefaster than a lot ofFerraris and Porsches, also known as pee cars? For one it got an extra 45 hrsprsover the standard Clubsportalong with a bunch of electricaltweaks to the suspensionand stability control.Remember the Ring is a treacheroushell of twists and turnsso staying stable is pretty importantwhen you're trying toset killer lap times. But VW also took a pagefrom old man Renault's book, stripping out the back seatsand fitting the front with alightweight aluminum subframewhich cut weight and allowed it to top outat 165 miles per hour in a Golf. They decided to stick with the radioand air conditioning though, probably because Volkswagen realizedthat people like to bump tunes, okay. And people don't like to be hot and sweatyeven when they're shattering records. But I think the coolestthing about this caris that it honestlyjust looks like a regular Volkswagen Golf. It's not even like fully race car'd outwith crazy wings and aero and stuff. It's a Volkswagen. They're about subtlety,I'm talking OEM plus. That's a Golf.- Honda Civic Type R.- Speaking of subtlety, this next car is about as subtleas a whole herd of frickin' beesstinging you in the gosh darn face.On a list chocked full of fast hatchbacks, there was simply no waythat only one Honda civicwas gonna make the cut.The upgrades to the 2017 Civic Type Rwere surprisingly small. The same two liter turbo charged four potfrom that last Civicreceived only a smallboost in overall horsepowerfrom 306 to 315.And yeah, sure, that's only a measly nine hrsprs.but nine hrsprs is allit took for the Type Rto knock off nearly seven secondsfrom the previous year's lap time.Seven seconds is almostlong enough to win a rodeo.I am a huge fan of thecurrent Civic Type Rand we talk about it quitea bit on this channel. It looks like a freaking video gameboth outside and inside. And I've driven a lot of cars, but the Civic Type R is easily up therewith the best cars I've ever driven.Again, guys, I want to remind you, this was the Honda Civic in the 1970s.- Lynk& Co 03 Cyan Concept!- Okay, so I know that I saidI'm only going to talk aboutproduction cars on this list. And I know this might bestretching the definitionof a production carbecause it is quiteliterally a concept car.But we found it whileresearching this episodeand it deserves an honorable mentionbecause of its insane lap time. And I couldn't pass up showing you guysthis weird new front wheel drive super carand what front wheel drivecars are capable of really. So for the sake of this listI'm going to call this thing number 1.5.Lynk & Co is a Chinese/Swedish car companyand this blue sedan simplycalled the 03 is their son.And the Cyan Concept didin no uncertain termsnot come to mess around. This weird concept holds the distinctionof having the fastest lap timefor a front wheel drive carat the Nurburgring,as well as being the firstChinese car to set a record. It's also the fastest street legalfour door around the Ring.It has a two liter fourcylinder engine that makes, are you...Sit down.592 horsepower.592 horsepower from a four cylinder motor. That's 296 hrspr per liter. That's 132 horsepower per cylinder. That's certified bonkers. It's also got a top speedof 192 miles per hour.In many ways the CyanConcept is a perfect exampleof how innovation has shatteredthe front wheel drives stigmaalong with some pretty hugerecords for good measure. But they only made one of themso it doesn't really count for this list.So what is the fastestfront wheel driveproduction car in the worldas of right now June 2020,when I am recording this episodeon a beautiful Sunday morningwith one of my best friends, Max?- Renault Megane Trophy R!- Wow, another Renault!Who could have possibly seen it coming?Oh my God!It's a Renault!Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Renault Megane RS Trophy Rmakes one final three-pete showingto snatch the lap recordfrom the Honda Civic. The thing that reallysets the Trophy R apartfrom the other Renaults on this listis that this model surprisinglyruns a smaller 1.8 literengine making 296 hrsprs, finally proving, thank you, that size, in fact, does not matter. It's about having a good (bleep). This bad boy features a mechanical LSDto help keep power while cornering. It also has a proprietaryall wheel steering system dubbed 4Control.This has led to the trophyare setting track recordsfor circuits all over the world, including Suzuka and Fuji.Do not be jealous, Nurburgring. You are still my number one circuit. The Trophy R provesthat you can be absolutelybat crap crazy fastin a front wheel drive caras long as you have $90,000 to spendon a supped up version of an economy car.I mentioned an episode of "Wheelhouse"hosted by my friend Nolanearlier in this episode. You should guys should check it out. It's all about engine placementand why companies put the enginein certain spots in a car. It's really good.Nolan's really great. If you're not already a fanI think you should be because I am.Hit that Subscribe
