While delicately sliding this quickly back in, it's clear that the Ford GT is something special. This is just something you keep forever, a truly memorable and original vehicle that I've never seen before. Its completely unique design makes it stand out from anything else on the roads.

The Storyline and Heritage of the Ford GT

But what really sets the Ford GT apart is its storyline and heritage. Built as a 50-year tribute to the 1966 win at Le Mans, this car is a true marvel. The team took it back to Le Mans and won GTE Pro again in 2016 - I was there for that victory! Seeing the car unveiled in Detroit was also an incredible experience. To me, the Ford GT represents performance, passion, and a legacy of racing excellence.

As someone who's enjoyed their Focus RS for the past two years, I can appreciate the importance of performance. The Ford GT is no exception - it's a beast on the road. With its incredible design and engineering, it's clear that this car is something special. But I'm also aware of the price tag and the value of owning one of these limited-edition cars.

In the UK, the first round of allocations when they did the application process only gave out 17-19 cars to the market out of a total of 500. That's a tiny number - fewer than 4%! It's clear that the Ford GT is not just a common car, but a true rarity.

Now that I've finally decided to go ahead with my purchase, it's time to start thinking about the spec and design of my car. With my car arriving at the end of this year, I've started counting down the days until its arrival. The process of getting to my car is no easy one - it involves shipping it from Canada, importing it to the UK, and making sure it meets all the necessary regulations. But with only six months to go, I'm excited to finally see my dream car in person.

The Cost of Owning a Ford GT

Of course, owning a Ford GT isn't cheap. The base price is around $450,000 in the US, which converts to around £350,000 - but due to import duties and shipping costs, the final price comes out to be around £520,000. It's a steep price tag, but I'm willing to pay it for the chance to own one of these incredible cars.

for an update well as you can tell i'm quite excited because something very special has arrived in the mail i have received my box from ford performance this contains the ordering kit for the ford gt kickstarts the road to the gt and in this video let's unbox it take a look through talk about some spec ideas i'd love to get your input as well and then i'll be able to let you know when my car is going to be due it's been a long process so far over two years since i applied for an allocation but the car is now not that far away so let's get this box opened up and have a look inside let's get started straight away getting this box opened up and believe me when i tell you it's like playing past the parcel even the cardboard box which is just a plain black box with ford performance on the front came inside an outer sleeve that was inside the packaging materials and then there's even more when you get inside it but let's open it up right now and take a little look in here you might have seen it before but i'm looking forward to running through the different spec options that are available inside this box yes another bag to go through first but in here is the carbon fiber 4gt design spec the ordering kit how awesome is this nobody else has done anything like this a completely unique thing it just makes you feel as a customer when you open this it's so special the satin carbon fiber it has a mechanical latch on the front just like the ford gt race car for the front bonnet or other clams on the car it says gt design spec at least this little gap here for the plaque that comes with your car to put your vin number matching the vin number on the passenger side of the dashboard of the car how cool is that so if we open this up which you do by pressing in and latching and opening it up literally like on a race car the end will slide off and i'm going to be very delicate and careful with all of this to reveal some of the inside you've got some of the interior trims that are available and as you slide it open the wheels the brakes and some of the paint frogs so we can go through all of these quickly and have a little look at the standard options that are available you can also go for the extended palette but this is of course the liquid blue the launch color of the car very traditional schmitt spec if i went with liquid blue i think it's a lovely lovely color it looked great when it was launched if we continue we've got liquid red this is a really deep pearlescent red metallic very very smart big fan of that one continuing beyond that we have the gray this is liquid grey so the liquid paints are all optional upgrade on top of the standard this is a nice safe color but i think for me it should be a little bit brighter than that perhaps the tri-coat yellow the triple layer yellow that's a traditional gt speck yellow especially with the black stripes looks incredible on the other side this top one's quite interesting this is the 67 heritage spec so i don't actually think it's available to me but we've seen that car at a couple of shows red with the white stripes as well as some other white accents around the car which is a really nice color combination but i think it might even be race red like the color on my soon to arrive focus rs red edition but that looks very very good too then we get to shadow black black not for me but this is a very deep deep black so i can imagine a lot of people would love that on the car after that we have frozen white the polar opposite so these ones by the way the black the white and also the ingot silver that we're going to get to next are the standard colours you can have so the white there and then the silver if we just pull this out now i'm going to pop the box down delicately for a second just so i don't end up damaging it but you see these stripes on the top so here you've got competition orange you've got lightning blue and you've got some of the other colors we've seen this one on here is called alloy white black silver etc and you can actually pop them off and move them from one mold to another to create your speck now this is where it gets really complicated because you can go extended palette for the paint if you don't want one of these eight or seven and you can also go extended palette for the stripes so you can spec this car literally however you want however your imagination can desire it which is going to make this a very difficult difficult choice now i'm a big fan i think to start us off of these three if this is working liquid red liquid blue and the yellow because they're all bright they're all gt colors so which of those three would you take and then it's a world of what struck this is really complicated so i get a phone call with somebody from ford's gt concierge team to run through these different options and talk about which it might be and what the extended options could be for example painting to match another company's color not quite like near to match or even to make my own color if i wish like i did say with the maclaren 675 lt the options are endless i'm completely bamboozled already i've spent another moment thinking about it liquid red or liquid blue if i don't go with the extended palette one of those let's see how we decide so to continue on in the box you have the wheels you have carbon fiber wheels or you have the normal five twin spokes and out of the wheels you can actually pop the caliper the brake disc off the back and see them with different color combinations so you've got the gloss carbon fiber wheel down at the bottom there it's not so easy to get out but you have the satin carbon fiber wheel and i've accidentally knocked the brake caliper off the back of it but this will show you what it's like literally you can mount the brake caliper back in which is quite this is like playing with a toy as a child but it's so like awesomely cool that you can actually do this he says as he knocks it off again right you stay in there i'm getting somewhere here slowly guys then you've got the normal ones which obviously are going to depend what the exterior of the car looks like which spec matches up so the wheels i think are a bit harder but they're also the easiest thing to change retrospectively then you've got all of the five interiors so i'll show you first this is the 67 heritage but that's not an option for my market so i unfortunately cannot have that then you've got the standard dark energy which is like a suede um with i think black satin black painted parts around the interior so that's i think quite safe that would work with any exterior no stress on that front you can then go for light speed so this would have the ip of the dashboard in a dark navy suede i don't know if you can just see this so that's like the car that i drove up in scotland when i did my first test drive in a gt and you also by the way get the trim parts in this color at the top so things like the x-brace on the back of the seats beneath the headrest above the backrest so that all matches up also you have re-entry which is white leather white leather is a bit hardcore unless you have an exterior that literally links to it so maybe if you had white stripes you could do white leather but i think without white stripes you'd be a bit over the top with that but that does have carbon fiber which is very nice and launch control similarly the orange would only work if you had maybe a competition orange stripe on a black car but again you get orange black leather and carbon fiber so tough dark entry sorry dark entry dark energy there is also a dark energy upgrade package where you get carbon fiber and some leather bits as well as the alcantara bits i think that's about 30 000 pounds almost though so that's quite a steep price tag to do that so i think dark energy has been quite popular and that might well be the one for me so that is quite a bit about this car but there is more to it as well so for the wheels you can opt to have titanium lug nuts which are a thousand pounds or so but slightly lighter um i think that's potentially a bit of a no-brainer painted to match the wheels you can get a titanium exhaust system which is made by akrapovic it costs 10 000 pounds or so but titanium sports exhaust who does not want that on their gt in addition to that though i think pretty much the only options are to have the six point harness anchors again about a thousand pounds or to paint your wheel color for one thousand seven hundred and fifty the carbon fiber wheels are a fifteen thousand pound option so not exactly the cheapest in the world i personally prefer i think the design of the normal wheels but the carbon wheels are exceedingly cool you can't actually swap because it changes the hub you have a different hub on the axle so you have to decide from you which you want to have i'm always terrified of the idea of damaging a carbon wheel they're made by carbon revolution let's see what happens in this space i'll make a decision at some point between those the paint colors so the standard couple of paints they're all free of course the liquid paints and the yellow are 5 000 pounds or so as an option you can go extended palette and then it could be anywhere 20 000 i think up to 60 000 depending what you choose the layers the pearlescent how deep it is how rich it is whether it fades or flips from one color to another stripes are about ten thousand because of the work that's needed to paint one layer on top of the other and make sure it lasts it has a lot of longevity if you do an extended palette stripe it's about fifteen thousand so if let's say i wanted liquid blue with my own color of stripe on the top that would be 5 000 plus 15 000 for the stripe 20 um 10 000 for the exhaust 15 for the wheels and you get i guess potentially 75 000 pounds of options on top of the car but you can spec it exactly how you want in the uk our base price for the ford gt to give it the exact amount is 519 995 pounds which means a spect car is somewhere just shy of 600k it's quite an expensive car and i think that's actually an interesting topic to move on to so i'm just going to pack all of this stuff back up for the moment and then we'll talk a little bit more about that okay while i delicately slide this quickly back in then we can latch it closed they're not exactly common things only a handful have been delivered so far so it's a very very special car it's the kind of car that you can go to i think perhaps a big supercar meet and it might be the only one there which even in a world where you have say 70 or 80 senators coming to the uk 17 think about that it's a tiny tiny number so i know that some of you will say it you will say that the ford gt has been around for a while now and it might not necessarily be the fastest thing on the market by the time it's delivered i'm expecting to get a lot of that in the comments but to me if you've seen one you'll know what i mean it is spectacular it is such a different beast to anything else and then you put it into the race mode it just drops to the floor raises back up the wing shoots
