How to Link Ring Cameras to Automate Caséta Lights

Let's Go Ahead and Link a Ring Account

To get started with integrating our Lutron Caseta wireless lights with our Ring video doorbell, we need to link our Ring account. Here, we're going to authorize Lutron to access our Ring device and sign into our account. Now that we have signed in, we need to authorize so that Lutron can access the Ring cameras.

Selecting Authorization

So here we are, selecting authorization, which allows Lutron to access our Ring devices. We'll choose what happens when someone rings the doorbell or when motion is detected. Let's say when somebody rings the doorbell. Here we have a few options: one, we can only turn on at night; this option I'm going to select because during the day, I don't really want it to turn on and off. Next, we have the different devices we can choose to turn on when someone rings the doorbell. Let's go ahead and choose the entryway lights so that's right inside the door.

Saving Our Settings

Now we'll save our settings. Here we can see all the lights will return to their original level 15 minutes after being triggered. So once the doorbell presses, the lights going to turn on for 15 minutes and then turn off. And here whenever motion is detected, it's going to turn on the porch light and then turn off after 15 minutes.

Seeing Our Settings in Action

Whenever we want to adjust this integration between our Lutron devices and Ring video doorbell, we can select right there under settings. Now let's head outside and see how this works because I enabled night mode, I do need to wait till sunset until that turns on, and the mode will turn off after sunrise.

Testing Our Motion-Sensing Setup

So let's say you get home from work it's pretty late, and you forgot that you put your keys in your backpack so you need to look in your backpack to find them. The light automatically turns on; you can then find your keys and enter your home safely if motion sensing isn't working great. You do need to check the Ring app and your motion detection settings.

Testing Our Doorbell Setup

Now let's say a visitor comes over as they walk up to the door, the porch light automatically comes on when it detects that they are there. Then they press the doorbell, and the lights inside automatically turn on showing that somebody is home. This is also helpful if you're inside coming to the door; the lights already on, and you're not going to trip on any unsuspected toys.

Using Our Lutron Caseta Wireless Lights with Ring Video Doorbell

This integration is really cool. I loved how as soon as I walked up to the door it automatically turned on the light right here and then as soon as I pressed the doorbell it was so cool to see the lights come on inside. Maybe it takes a little bit longer to get to the door sometimes, but it's nice those lights have already come on indicating that you're home.

Conclusion

I think this integration is really cool. I loved how we can customize our settings to fit our needs and preferences.
