How to Link Ring Cameras to Automate Caséta Lights

Let's Go Ahead and Link a Ring Account

To get started with integrating our Lutron Caseta wireless lights with our Ring video doorbell, we need to link our Ring account. Here, we're going to authorize Lutron to access our Ring device and sign into our account. Now that we have signed in, we need to authorize so that Lutron can access the Ring cameras.

Selecting Authorization

So here we are, selecting authorization, which allows Lutron to access our Ring devices. We'll choose what happens when someone rings the doorbell or when motion is detected. Let's say when somebody rings the doorbell. Here we have a few options: one, we can only turn on at night; this option I'm going to select because during the day, I don't really want it to turn on and off. Next, we have the different devices we can choose to turn on when someone rings the doorbell. Let's go ahead and choose the entryway lights so that's right inside the door.

Saving Our Settings

Now we'll save our settings. Here we can see all the lights will return to their original level 15 minutes after being triggered. So once the doorbell presses, the lights going to turn on for 15 minutes and then turn off. And here whenever motion is detected, it's going to turn on the porch light and then turn off after 15 minutes.

Seeing Our Settings in Action

Whenever we want to adjust this integration between our Lutron devices and Ring video doorbell, we can select right there under settings. Now let's head outside and see how this works because I enabled night mode, I do need to wait till sunset until that turns on, and the mode will turn off after sunrise.

Testing Our Motion-Sensing Setup

So let's say you get home from work it's pretty late, and you forgot that you put your keys in your backpack so you need to look in your backpack to find them. The light automatically turns on; you can then find your keys and enter your home safely if motion sensing isn't working great. You do need to check the Ring app and your motion detection settings.

Testing Our Doorbell Setup

Now let's say a visitor comes over as they walk up to the door, the porch light automatically comes on when it detects that they are there. Then they press the doorbell, and the lights inside automatically turn on showing that somebody is home. This is also helpful if you're inside coming to the door; the lights already on, and you're not going to trip on any unsuspected toys.

Using Our Lutron Caseta Wireless Lights with Ring Video Doorbell

This integration is really cool. I loved how as soon as I walked up to the door it automatically turned on the light right here and then as soon as I pressed the doorbell it was so cool to see the lights come on inside. Maybe it takes a little bit longer to get to the door sometimes, but it's nice those lights have already come on indicating that you're home.

Conclusion

I think this integration is really cool. I loved how we can customize our settings to fit our needs and preferences. "WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enone of my favorite parts about having multiple smart home devices is how they can interact with each other through an automation so this is when you have one device over here something happens to it and it automatically triggers a device over here without you having to do anything and in today's video we're going to show you a brand new automation that you can do between lutron lights and ring video doorbell or ring cameras let's get started hey everybody welcome to tech with brett where i help tech work for you so in today's video i'm going to show you how you can automatically turn on your lutron lights if motion or even a button press is detected on your ring video doorbell or other ring cameras so first let's talk about the different devices that you would need so first you need some type of lutron smart bridge so here i have the caseta smart bridge that lutron sent out to me for this video or you could use a caseta pro bridge or if you have the ra2 select all of those different bridges will work with this automation next you need to have some lutron smart lights so here i have a dimmer switch and i have some other on and off light switch that are controlling my porch lights that we're going to use today and then next you do need to have a ring camera so here we have the ring video doorbell pro or you could use other rain cameras as well to do this so here you can see my ring doorbell is already set up and then over in the lutron app here i have some lights as well as my porch lights here now that we have all those devices set up and ready to go next we're going to head into the lutron app to be able to get this set up we're just going to head into the settings right here and we're going to select add device so we're going to scroll past all of these different devices we could add and then we're going to use works with ring so this will allow us to link a ring account to the lutron app so here it allows you to turn on exterior lights when motion is detected it also allows you to turn on interior lights when somebody rings the doorbell and then this is nice because it turns on the lights as you approach your house which is just really convenient so let's go ahead and link a ring account so here we're going to authorize lutron to access our ring device and sign into our account now that we have signed in we need to authorize so that lutron can access the ring cameras so here we're going to select authorize and now here it is showing our different ring devices so right here we have the ring video doorbell pro so we can tap right there and now we can choose what happens when we ring the doorbell or when motion is detected so let's say when somebody rings the doorbell so here we have a few options one we have to only turn on at night so i'm going to turn that on because during the day i don't really want it to turn on or off next we have the different devices we can choose to turn on when somebody rings the doorbell so let's go ahead and choose the entryway lights so that's right inside the door and select save now we have the option to choose when motion is detected so let's go ahead and select that and now we can choose what lights we want to turn on so let's go ahead and just choose the porch carriage here so if it detects motion it's automatically going to turn on those lights just like a motion sensor light which is kind of cool i don't need to add any other motion sensors or anything so let's select save and then at the top here it says all lights will return to their original level 15 minutes after being triggered so once the doorbell presses the lights going to turn on for 15 minutes and then turn off and then here whenever motion is detected it's going to turn on the porch light and then turn off after 15 minutes and it's going to turn on on full brightness and then going back you can see that under the front door we do have the doorbell press lights turning on and the motion activated lights as well and then heading back into the lutron app here on the settings you can see that it has the ring integration right there so if we ever want to adjust it we can just select right there and come back and change this so let's head outside and see how this works now because i enabled night mode i do need to wait till sunset until that turns on and the mode will turn off after sunrise so let's say you get home from work it's pretty late and you forgot that you put your keys in your backpack so you need to look in your backpack to find them the light automatically turns on you can then find your keys and enter your home safely if motion sensing isn't working great you do need to check the ring app and your motion detection settings now let's say a showing that somebody is home now this is also helpful if you are inside coming to the door the lights already on and you're not going to trip on any unsuspected toys oh cool somebody's home hey yeah i was wondering if you had any oreos for reals no i don't have any sorry man oh okay all right see you all right see you later and then 15 minutes later the lights returned to the state that they were in now i could have also set this up the other direction so as soon as motion is detected the inside lights turn on and then once the doorbell is pressed the porch light turns on so it really just depends on what you would want to have i kind of like having the porch automatically turn on with motion and this is helpful if during the middle of the night i don't have my lights on then they can automatically turn on but your situation may be different so it's really nice that you can choose exactly how this will work for you and so that is how you can use your lutron caseta wireless lights with the ring video doorbell i think this integration is really cool i loved how as soon as i walked up to the door it automatically turned on the light right here and then as soon as i pressed the doorbell it was so cool to see the lights come on inside maybe it takes a little bit longer to get to the door sometimes it's nice those lights have already come on indicating that you're home and it is really nice that you have the option to turn this on in the evening so that it's not running all day long if you don't want it to so if you have any further questions about this integration between
