"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey bro Natalia and today is book Mustaine so I'm going to be talking about my favorite new to me authors of 2018 so yesterday for book my stay 12 we talked about my favorite debut authors of 2018 so if you wanted to watch that video I will have it linked for you down below a bite today we're going to be talking about some authors that didn't debut in 2018 but rather they're really established authors I stuck to ones that had quite a few books I'll already and now I finally got to them this year also I wanted to give an honorable mention to Shannon Hale the author of the books of bayern series as well as his book of a thousand days which are the two books that I've read by her but she has a million books out and I just discovered her at the end of 2017 beginning of 2018 so I just wanted to mention her because now I love her so now getting into the actual list the first author I want to talk about is Alison we're an adult author who writes these Tudor Aran novels and I'm really interested in historical fiction particularly the Tudor era and around this time last year I was like obsessed with trying to find new ones and Alison Weir is one who came up a lot in my recommendations that I got so I checked her out and I have read a two of her novels now but the lady elizabeth is my absolute favorite that I've read I actually listened to the audiobook and it was a great audiobook and if you have any interest in Queen Elizabeth the first I recommend checking this out because I thought it was very interesting obviously it's a fictional ization but it still is really fascinating to see how her life was fictionalized and kind of the what-ifs that were explored so Alison Weir is definitely an author that I will be checking out more of in the future next is another adult author and that is Kristen Hanna the author of my absolute favorite book of this year the nightingale but she is also the author of many other books I haven't gotten the chance to get to any get but I do hopefully plan on getting to at least one of them in 2019 if you have a recommendation for which one I should check out definitely let me know down below because she has plenty of novels I don't even think they're all historical fiction but this one is definitely a historical fiction and it is set in a world war two in Paris and not necessarily Paris but France and it follows sisters and beautiful poignant story that like you need to read it is honestly so good next is Maria peso who is the author of never world wake but this is her first venture into y a however she has I know at least one book night film in the adult section and she writes mysteries and thrillers and this was a mystery slash thriller die involves this really interesting concept a really cool world that I don't really want to tell you too much about because I think this is a book that is best to just kind of go into and go with the flow of the story and I don't think you'll be disappointed because it was very fascinating I loved the world and I was intrigued by the entire thing so it was a super inventive idea and from what I've heard it seems like that's kind of her thing is coming up with out of the box kind of avant-garde ideas so this definitely lived up to that next is Lilly Anderson who I actually thought this was her debut novel but then I went on Goodreads and I found that she actually has quite a few novels and I've seen them before I just never put two and two together that she was the author of them but I read this one and it was tons of fun so I think I might check out more of her stuff if I'm just looking for something fun and quick and easy to read but this book is about a girl who gets involved in witchcraft and she ends up bringing one of her best friends back to life by also some other people back to life and it just it's a wild ride next is Robin Benway the author of far from the tree which actually almost made my list of top 10 books of the year but it didn't quite make it on there I was toying with the idea of doing top 15 but I decided not to and if it had been top 15 it definitely would have been on there but she I think only has two novels out right now I could be totally wrong but this book was the winner of the National Book Award last year and it is for good reason it is a beautiful story of family and it's about these siblings that have never met each other before until they go on a quest to try and find their mother and find out what happened to her because one is in foster care and has grown up in the foster care system their entire life well the other two do have families but all of them have different backgrounds that they have come from even though they are from the same mother so it's kind of like a nature versus nurture sort of situation because you see the differences in their personalities and the differences in their upbringing and how it affects each of them but they end up developing this blue full relationship and it's just an amazing story of siblings and family and how families can develop even later in life and I just thoroughly enjoyed this book and I don't remember what her other book is about but I might pick it up depending next is the traitors game by Jennifer a Nielsen this is once again a first venture into ia for this author but she wrote a lot of stuff in the middle grade section so I had seen her books around and then I saw that she was coming out with something in the why a section knows like I'll give it a go it seems intriguing the covers pretty so at the very least I'll have a pretty book and I actually did end up enjoying it a lot I thought it was a solid first venture into why a fantasy and it would definitely be a good bridge book if you're trying to get into why a fantasy from middle-grade because she does a really good job of creating this dynamic story but it's also not too complicated and as a really great world and characters it's not the most inventive fantasy I've ever read but I did really enjoy the characters and their stories so I find that middle grade is something I've been struggling with recently it's something I haven't been enjoying too too much but if I do feel like I'm in the mood for a middle grade fantasy then I might pick some of her stuff up next is Rachel cannon and Aguiar I think is the pronunciation for I forgot what the audiobook said but I read honor among thieves by this author - oh but they also have quite a few books just separately I know that for sure Rachel Kane has quite a few she has kind of like older style Yei books and by that I mean like vampires not that I'm dissing that or anything I'm just saying factually and and Aguiar I believe I've seen her stuff I just I don't remember what she's written before but it was really interesting to meet these two authors for the first time as a duo and I'm interested to see how it would feel about their solo stuff I don't know if either of them have written sci-fi before but this was a really interesting sci-fi story I love the idea of like the ships and how that ended up playing out so it does make me want to check out some of their other stuff next is Claire Legrand and I read fury born by her this year and a lot of people have thought that this is a debut novel but she actually has quite a few books she definitely has one in the why a section but then she has quite a few in the middle grade section as well so she's kind of an author all across the board and now she has two books that have come this year because there's also soccer girls which I haven't read yet but I do want to get to I'm just saving it for a run Halloween time because it fits that but this is an epic fantasy novel and it really is like an epic fantasy novel because it's across years and you follow these two different Queens and they're meeting even though they are in like two separate eras it's kind of how what they're doing affects each other and it was just fascinating a really well thought out and built and it definitely makes me excited to read sock Hill girls because I did really enjoy the author's writing and I am excited for the sequel for this as well next is Courtney summers the author of cedi which once again I feel like is a book that a lot of people think is a debut novel because it's really one of those things where it's the first book to really like blow up on bookish social media and all of that stuff so everyone has been talking about this book and it is for a good reason it's a really cool inventive story it's told in a completely different format which really intrigued me I love when things it's like warmin forms function I feel like is what I want to say it makes sense in my head but the point is this introduced me to a new author she has quite a few books out like one two three four five she has five books out so this is her sixth book and I know how she flew under the radar up until this point she's Canadian which is awesome so actually I don't know if she's Canadian it just says she lives and writes in Canada so I assume she's Canadian but I could be wrong but this was a great introduction to her nonetheless and finally we have Holly black who is the author of a lot of fairy stories she has her I forget what it's called by that series that's about fairies and like they're small books and I feel like I can picture the cover but I can no I think the title right now is it Thai and am I even saying not correctly it probably not but she also is the author of The Spiderwick Chronicles in the middle grade section so many of these authors are also middle great authors which is really funny but this was a fabulous first introduction to her and I'm using this as my first introduction even though I read the iron trial because this is my first solo introduction to her and it was a great way to start off because this was a really brutal fairy fantasy and it just made me want to read more of her fairy stuff because she obviously knows a lot about fairies so those are all the new to me authors of 2018 it was a really great year for discovering new authors I
