Unboxing the Ugreen Type-C Multi-Port Adapter for MacBook and MacBook Pro
We are excited to unbox this Ugreen Type-C Multi-Port Adapter, which promises to bring a couple of legacy USB ports to your MacBook. As Jeff Benjamin from 9to5Mac, I'm here to take you through the unboxing process and put this adapter through its paces.
The adapter itself is quite slim and thin, measuring about 4 inches in length and weighing just a fraction of an ounce. It's designed to be compact enough to fit snugly into your backpack or purse, making it easy to carry around. The device has a USBC connector that connects to your MacBook, which is about 6 inches long.
One of the first things that caught my attention was the little gasket on the end of the adapter, which provides protection for your MacBook as you plug it in. It's a nice touch, and one that shows attention to detail from the manufacturer. The adapter also has a USB-C pass-through for charging, making it easy to charge your devices on the go.
Let's take a closer look at the two ports provided by this adapter. They're standard USB-A ports, which should be familiar to anyone who's used older MacBooks or laptops. These ports will allow you to connect legacy devices such as flash drives, cameras, and other peripherals to your MacBook.
The adapter also features an HDMI output, making it easy to connect a monitor or TV to your MacBook for presentations or video playback. I plugged in my mixer and 4K monitor via HDMI to test out the adapter's capabilities.
To put this adapter through its paces, we'll run a quick bench test to ensure that nothing fishy is happening with the USB 3.0 throughput. As you can see from the results, everything looks normal, which gives us confidence in the adapter's performance.
Next, we'll check out Switch Res X, which detects this display that I have hooked up via HDMI. We're looking for available resolutions and refresh rates to see how well the adapter handles 4K content.
Unfortunately, there is one major downside to this adapter: it only supports 30Hz for 4K content, meaning you won't be able to take full advantage of 60Hz or higher when connecting a 4K display. This limitation may be a deal-breaker for some users who require high refresh rates for their displays.
Despite this limitation, the Ugreen Type-C Multi-Port Adapter is available in three colors: Goat Space Grey, Silver, and Rose Gold, for $59.99. If you only need two USB ports and an HDMI output, this adapter might be worth considering.
