Now, let's talk about something a little different. Today I want to show you how to take apart an aloe vera leaf. Aloe vera is a plant that has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties, and it's also edible. But have you ever wondered how to eat it? Well, today I'm going to show you one possible way to enjoy this amazing plant.
First, we need to wash the aloe vera leaf thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris. Then, we need to cut off the outer skin of the leaf and remove the latex inside. The latex is what's responsible for the plant's medicinal properties, but it can also be quite bitter. So, we're going to remove that latex by soaking the piece in cold water or allowing it to spill out naturally.
Once the latex has been removed, we're left with a clear gel that's full of nutrients and antioxidants. This is what we want to eat! We can simply squish the gel flat and enjoy it on its own, or we can mix it with other ingredients like yogurt or fruit for added flavor and nutrition. Today, I'm going to show you how to make an aloe vera parfait by layering the clear gel with yogurt, maple syrup, and fresh fruit.
To start, take a piece of aloe vera gel and wash your hands thoroughly. Now, let's cut off the outer skin of the leaf and remove the latex inside. You can do this by simply cutting along the edge of the leaf with a knife or butter knife, and then guiding the latex underneath the skin. Once you've removed the latex, you should be left with a clear gel that's full of nutrients.
Now, let's squish the gel flat to release its natural oils and flavorings. As we can see, the gel is quite slippery, so make sure to handle it carefully. And finally, let's wash our hands again to remove any lingering latex or dirt.
Now, are you ready to try some aloe vera? I'm going to take a piece of this beautiful gel and play with it on my tongue. Mmm... doesn't taste like much at all! It has a very succulent texture, slimy and juicy, and when you bite into it, it's got this nice, wet crunch.
But the best part is yet to come. I'm going to layer this clear gel with some plain yogurt, add a little bit of maple syrup for sweetness, and top it off with some fresh fruit. It's like a parfait in here! Take a spoon and dig in... Mmmhmm. The texture of the aloe vera is lovely, really like that kind of pungent flavor without being bitter. And of course, the yogurt and maple syrup add just the right amount of sweetness.

(chuckles)Amazing!It's kind of oniony and spicy.Wow.I would've never thought that,how it smelled like that.Wow!That's so interesting.So clear.Isn't that beautiful?It's like a window.(chill music)The latex or the aloin is also bitter.So to get rid of that bitterness,we will rinse it in water as well.That's uncanny.That's so cool.So I'm gonna cut thisinto manageable pieces like this.Look at that, so stinking cool.And now we're going to remove the spines.Whoa, look at that.See that gel?This latex, or the aloin is yellow.Isn't that gnarly?Okay.And now you can let this rest verticallylike this and allow the latex to spill outor I'm gonna place it in some cold waterand let it soak a bitto remove that latex.Isn't that gorgeous?Look at that.The piece of aloe soak and the waterkind of changes greenish yellow color.You just want the clear gel inside.So we're gonna remove that green.I've seen people dothis with either a knifeor just like a butter knife.It doesn't need to be sharp.And then just go underneaththe skin like that.Just guide underneath.Wow, look at that gel.Same thing here.I'm gonna squish it flat.Wow, look at that.It's absolutely clear.Now I'm gonna take thispiece of beautiful gel.Look at that clear gel.You can see my hand totally through it.Amazing, it's so slippery.Look at that.So cool.Now we're gonna wash thatto get rid of any of that bitterness.Here it is.Now, some people blendthis up and consume it.Other people save this in the refrigeratorand apply it to burns or totheir skin or to make masks.It's just so gooey.I've also heard this eaten inkind of like a parfait fashionlayered with all kindsof different fruits.In tribute to my days in Japan,I'm going to have this witha little bit of plain yogurt.Just a little bit and maple syrup.It's gonna be a little bit differentbut it's gonna be delicious.Okay.And then I'm going to play someof that aloe right on top.Beautiful.Beautiful crystal clearpiece of aloe by itself.Here we go.Itadakimasu.Mm.Doesn't taste like muchof anything at all.It's got a very succulenttexture, slimy and juicy.And when you bite into it,it's got this nice, like wet crunch.Like the texture.I do taste a little bit ofthat kind of pungent flavor.It's not bitter though.And I think it's because wegive it a thorough washingin the water, but yeah,not bad, very benign.Okay.Now let's try it with the yogurt.Here we go.Mhmm.It's not like the Morinagaone, but it's still quite nice.The texture of the aloe is lovely.I really like that succulent kind of juicyslimy quality to it.The yogurt of course is delicious.It's tangy, but we'vegot that maple syrup,not only for flavor thatgreat maple leaf flavor,but for sweetness.It's lovely.Mhmm.I like it.I have to say of the two, Iprefer it with the yogurt.I like the addition ofthat maple leaf flavor,along with the yogurt.By itself, it's very benign.It's not very intrusive.Has a very nice cooling quality to it,but there's not much flavor.It's all about the texture for me.And I think it worksreally well in the yogurt.Alrighty, my lovelies.That's how you takeapart an aloe vera leafand one possible way to eat it.Thanks so much for joining meand big thanks to Skillsharefor sponsoring this video.Be one of the first 1000 peopleto use my link down belowto receive 30% off anannual premium membership.Even if you've already havea free Skillshare membership,you can still take advantage of this offerto get a full year of unlimited learningand creative exploration.Thanks again for watching.I hope you enjoyed that one.I hope you learned something.Please share this video with your friends.Follow me on social media,check out my website and yeah,I shall see you in the next one.Toodaloo, take care.Bye!(orchestral music)(upbeat playful music)My hands smell like I juststuck them in someone's armpit!\n"
