Vivo Nex Dual Display Edition hands-on - Two screens, three cameras

The Vivo Next Event: Unveiling the Vivo Neck Stool Display Edition

We just got back from the Vivo Next event held in Shanghai, China, and it was an exciting experience. The highlight of the event was the brand new phone that Vivo wanted to show off, called the Vivo Neck Stool Display Edition. As the name suggests, this phone features a primary display on the front of the device, accompanied by another display on the back of the phone. This secondary display is designed for various purposes, including taking photos and playing games.

The Vivo Neck Stool Display Edition builds upon the concept introduced with the original Vivo Next, which featured a small selfie camera that popped out of the top of the phone. However, this new design eliminates the need for a mechanical part, allowing users to simply use the screen on the back of the phone as a makeshift camera. This feature is not only convenient but also provides better image quality since users can turn the phone around to see themselves and take two selfies simultaneously.

The secondary display on the back of the phone has several other uses beyond taking photos. For instance, it can serve as a trigger for gaming, allowing users to tap on the display with their extra fingers to shoot or perform other actions in the game. This feature is particularly useful for first-person shooter games, where traditional controls may be less effective.

In addition to its innovative design, the Vivo Neck Stool Display Edition also boasts an improved fingerprint reader in the main display. While not a significant departure from the previous model's fingerprint reader, this update does offer some improvements over the earlier version.

One of the standout features of the Vivo Neck Stool Display Edition is its camera system. The phone is equipped with three cameras on the back, including a 12-megapixel main shooter, a 2-megapixel low-light camera, and a time-of-flight sensor. The latter is used to create depth maps for face unlocking purposes. This feature allows users to unlock their phone using the rear display, eliminating the need for the fingerprint reader in the main glass panel.

Another notable aspect of the Vivo Neck Stool Display Edition is its impressive 10GB of RAM. This makes it one of the first phones on the market to feature this amount of memory. Vivo claims that they are able to optimize their software to take better advantage of this additional RAM, resulting in faster app performance and reduced closure times.

The phone also comes equipped with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor as its predecessor, although it is now paired with a single storage variant: 128GB of internal storage without expandable storage options. The Vivo Neck Stool Display Edition will be priced at approximately $730 USD and will be available for pre-order starting immediately.

Finally, it's worth noting that the Vivo Neck Stool Display Edition will not be made available in Europe or the United States, although an official announcement regarding availability and pricing for these regions is expected to follow later. For now, fans of Vivo can stay tuned to our website and social media channels for updates on this exciting new device.
