**Dreamcast Games: A Mixed Bag**
The author embarked on a journey to test various games on their Dreamcast console, which was overclocked to 1.4 GHz with a heat sink and fan to improve performance. The results were mixed, with some games running smoothly while others struggled with lag and glitching.
As the author entered a dojo in one of the games, they noted that the frame rate was "pretty low" and there was a lot of glitching going on. However, once they exited the dojo and found themselves outside, the game's performance improved slightly. The author then proceeded to play Virtual Tennis, which was surprisingly playable despite some minor issues with the graphics.
The author's experience with Virtual Tennis led them to try another arcade game, Max Serve, which was also enjoyable. However, when they switched to a different game called Face First, things took a turn for the worse. The author found themselves struggling to control their character and noted that the gameplay was "very similar" to other fighting games.
The author's next challenge was playing WWE Royal Rumble, which featured a large cast of characters from the WWF universe. Despite feeling uncertain about wrestling, the author enjoyed the game and quickly became attached to one of the characters - The Rock. They were impressed by the game's graphics and noted that the crowd reactions added to the overall experience.
As the match progressed, the author found themselves getting caught up in the excitement of the gameplay. However, when there were too many people on screen at once, the game struggled with lag and poor performance. The author decided to test the game without an overclock, but even then, it was clear that running games at lower resolutions would not provide significant improvements.
**Technical Details**
For those interested in testing their own Dreamcast consoles, the author notes that overheating can be a major issue. A heat sink and fan can make a big difference in performance, especially when overclocking the console to higher speeds. The author also suggests experimenting with different resolutions to find a sweet spot for gameplay.
**Conclusion**
The author's experience testing games on their Dreamcast console was varied and sometimes frustrating. However, by incorporating a heat sink and fan into their setup and overclocking their console, they were able to improve performance and enjoy some of the games. For those looking to test their own consoles or upgrade their setup, the author offers these tips and recommendations.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey what's going on guys ETA Prime back here again today I'm here with the Raspberry Pi 3 running retro pi 3.8.1 and I wanted to test some more Dreamcast games I had a few requests for a couple games and I'm going to go ahead and test them out so I am using a wireless bluetooth PS3 controller connected to the pi and we're going to start out here now I have tested a couple of these games just to see how they run and I had to in order for them to run at a respectable frame rate was to turn the resolution down so our video mode is set at 720 by 480 when this kicks on my game capture will be recording in 480 now this is really the only way to get these games to run at a respectable frame rate with that said we're going to go ahead and launch buggy heat all right let me try to get this game capture sound correct here now my main thing is with sound and the music from these games sometimes I get a copyright warning I'm going to see if I can turn the music down I've never played this game we're going to see how it performs on this we'll try her out Scarlet Moon Scarlet Moon USA three two one go so at this resolution you know we're playing I'm recording at 480 and it does not look bad on the television that I'm on I'm on a 40in Samsung 1080p HD TV and running at the 480 Mark you know the resolution is still low but this is the only way to get these games to run decently as of right now on the Raspberry Pi 3 hopefully with some more emulator development from the recast team we'll be able to get some good frame rates at a higher resolution soon if not we'll just have to wait till the Raspberry Pi 4 and we're all hoping that we get a upgraded CPU and GPU U combo now the one of the real reasons they kept pretty much the same CPU and GPU is compatibility everything usually most of the time everything that works on the pi 2 works on the pi 3 they both have the quad core uh CPU and the video core GPU so it's still has some lag but it is not bad for a Raspberry Pi emulator I've come to accept that for now the Raspberry Pi is not meant for in 64 or Dreamcast emulation it does all of the older systems perfectly fine so that was buggy heat I'm going to back out of this and we're going to try a few more games not too shabby next up fur fight now I tested this in a previous video but I'm going to go ahead and test it again and I do remember the menus in this game were very glitchy we'll try Bungalow so there's some graphical glitches already it's not loading some of the textures some of the textures are overlapping popping woo that's right I hate this the control scheme on this controller is crazy I remember this from this game help me help me help me so the frame rate is not bad but we are inside of a closed off area if we were out in the open with more render space we'd have to render farther then it would probably be pretty laggy um whoa yeah the frame rate oh is not great this is really making me dizzy actually got to go all the way back here get up this ladder jeez and the controls on this PS3 controller I'm using are horrible um that's just the way it was set up you know the Dreamcast I'm using the buttons to move my uh uh usually fire buttons so oh I cannot wow let's see let's go return to the hub and we'll try something else real quick I'll try a different character cuz I if I remember correctly we will start in a different spot yeah it doesn't like to display the cut scenes at all and we have just a black screen here so this game's going to be unplayable so start and select brought me back to the emulation station retr Pi menu I'm going to try Quake 3 and we keep getting thrown back to the menu the game will not start I tried several things there and I cannot get Quake 3 to start loads up to that first main menu and then just cuts back out we're gonna try shimu now this is gonna be a hardcore game to run on this but we're gonna give it a shot so here we are with shimu I don't I think that's how you pronounce it I don't know I did play this game back in the day when it was on Dreamcast and we did love it because of the graphics was just crazy now I've had a lot of trouble playing this game on several different systems lots of glitching black borders under the eyes and everything like that you can go even lower with the resolution my game capture will not capture anything under the 480p mark I'm all right but H my father yeah FOC on FOC on real son FOC on eyeballs are a little messed up there father stay back miror for the last time where is the mirror I've no intention of telling you father why now then no matter how often you ask I'll never tell no don't hand over the mirror or else your son wait the mirror it's it's buried under the cherry tree do you remember cha soon Ming to that's the name of the man you killed in Moon it can't be you get up I'll allow you to die like a warrior father b s we have it father forgive me for leaving you alone what what are you saying father your friends keep friends those you love close to you no father no a letter for haki sensei for for holy long cutscene Batman good gosh okay your son you should still be resting I'm fine really and you are you all right yes but I must keep busy otherwise I'll get depressed I understand but you needn't work too hard yes oh by the way so if you want to deal with the graphical glitching and stuff like that then you could definitely play this at the 480p Mark but I'll leave it on top of the shoe cabinet it's not really going to be worth it do you know why FK son is for caran I believe he's in the dojo really thanks and there we go head view no let's get out of here how do I get out of here I have not played this in Forever what I'm stuck again this whole place is a maze oo do I need to use the toilet nah okay so we're outside now and you can see the frame rate is pretty low a lot of glitching going on I'm sure it's going to slow down even more when you get into the city why did those men come after my father so yes it does play no it doesn't play too good time x watch I think I still got one somewhere so we'll back out of here and try Virtual Tennis never played this arcade singles I don't know nothing about tennis so this guy looks cool oh yeah to ser love 15 I don't know guys Max serve whoa I got it what dude I'm a tennis champion oh yeah okay so there's got to be something about this how can I yeah did I do did I score a goal I don't know old Andre over there so it runs very smooth other than the you know the graphics the paint on the ground and stuff like that it's actually very playable so you'll need to experiment with the resolutions and stuff like that if we up the resolution it will slow the game down but it might be playable at a higher frame at a higher resolution come on oh he got me how the hell does he have 30 points already I'm about to get this home run touchdown ho in one three-pointer 30 nice actually I got to say that I know a lot of people like this game I actually enjoy playing this face first into the ground so when we're here in game play joh to Sir Oh I thought that was me why I thought I was still on this side that'll take some getting used to okay I'm done with this we about to test some rasling WWF Royal Rumble baby okay so when I was young I went on like a month watching WWF and there was I want to say there was another one WWE WWF but there was a one 123 kid and The Undertaker and we'll try the Royal Rumble here I don't know much about wrestling but whoa The Rock I gotta be him okay let's see who they got and I'm probably going to end up with The Rock here I have no clue I heard of these the hearty boys okay Triple H I heard of him Stone Cold Heart of mankind cane I don't know but I got to be the rock look at that eyebrow ooh the crowd looks awesome what are you doing man my dog does that oh yeah Sumo body slam I don't know what do I got to do here can I kick I just want to jump kick this dude in the face I'm going to get up on the top rope am I able to do that oh yeah nutshot so these guys are just crazy running around in their underwear hugging on each other dude there's so many people on screen what's who am I I where am I oh thought I was the guy I'm punching now yeah put him in an arm breaker a salad wrench I'm about to Tombstone this mug oh so I guess yeah Royal Rumble everybody for themselves you done it's over oh I just stomped his nuggets what am I doing they just keep com they just keep coming I want to do a back flip off the ropes oh cool come on get up there come on I am the rock oh I don't know is that the same guy okay so if you can follow this it's kind of playable so it does work and I'm pretty much done playing this game if there's a match or a a mode with two people on screen it should run a lot better but we got 20 people on screen at one time and I can I still know what's going on and I can still fight a little bit laggy backing out okay so that was a bunch of games tested on the Dreamcast most of them do not run that well and I was going to tell you guys at the beginning of this video but I decided to wait I have my Pi 3 overclock to 1.4 GHz I have a heat sink and a fan on it so if you're thinking about running these without an overclock it's not going to do much better than this at all and if you're trying to overclock your pie get you a fan in a heat sink and try it out you can go a little lower with the resolution but it kind of defeats the purpose of playing the game they do look pretty horrible at a lower resolution but I wanted to test them out appreciate you guys watching if you have any requests any comments leave them down below or you can send me a private message by going to my channel page clicking about and send message and like always thanks for watching\n"
