The Jeep Wrangler: A Rebirth of Its Formula
As I sit inside the cockpit of the new Jeep Wrangler, it's hard to believe that this is a car that has been replaced by its own variant. The Wrangler has been in production for over 80 years, and it's considered a rebirth of its formula every time it gets a new model cycle. The basic design of the Wrangler has remained largely unchanged over the years, but Jeep doesn't like to mess around with the formula too much.
The exterior of the new Wrangler is subtly updated, with a more refined look that still retains its signature separate body and chassis. The body is now made from more minimum material, making it lighter than ever before. The Wrangler is available in various trim levels, including the two-door model that I'm sitting in, which is better suited for off-road adventures. The sports trim level adds a touch of sophistication to the classic design, while the Rubicon trim takes it to the next level with chunky BF Goodrich all-terrain tires.
One of the key features of the new Wrangler is its low ratio transfer case, which allows it to tackle even the toughest off-road terrain. The Rubicon trim also comes equipped with up-rated axles and automatic locking diffs, giving it an added layer of control and stability on the road. Jeep has taken the time to redesign the car carefully, taking into account the needs of its owners who use their Wranglers in extreme conditions.
The interior of the new Wrangler is a major improvement over its predecessor. The cabin is more refined, with a focus on comfort and convenience. I'm sitting in the Rubicon trim, which features a multicolored dial and an 8.5-inch touchscreen display that's connected to my smartphone via CarPlay and Android Auto. The interior is also more spacious than before, with plenty of room for passengers and cargo.
One of the standout features of the new Wrangler is its flexibility. The car is designed to be modifiable and customizable, with a full soft top and three-piece hardtop that can be easily swapped out. The doors are lighter than before, and the grab handle provides an added layer of convenience. Jeep has said that these cars spend about five minutes out of the showroom stock before being customized and modified by their owners.
The new Wrangler is a serious off-road piece of kit, capable of tackling terrain that would be impossible for most other cars. It's designed to be job one on doing a new Wrangler, with a focus on going further and being better than its predecessor. The car has been put through rigorous testing at the Moab Jeep festival, where it was put through its paces in some of the toughest conditions imaginable.
On-road, the new Wrangler is a different story. While it's capable of handling everyday driving with ease, it's not without its quirks. The steering can be a bit vague around straight ahead, and there's a lot of road noise and tire noise to contend with. However, once you get behind the wheel, you'll quickly realize that this is a car that's designed for fun and adventure.
The new Wrangler is an iconic car that has been in production for over 80 years. It's a true American classic, and one that has captured the hearts of millions of owners around the world. Jeep understands its icon, and knows exactly how to replace it with a car that's just as special. The new Wrangler is a testament to the brand's commitment to quality and performance, and a reminder that sometimes, less can be more.
Driving the Sahara on the road was meant to be a little bit more habitable but you're still looking at a car whose steering is a bit vague around straight ahead there's quite a lot of road noise there's quite a lot of Tyre noise if you're thinking about swapping out of a Volvo xc60 SUV and thinking you might find something similarly scandi cool and refined on-road look that's not what this car is about remember that remember the fact that it will climb up buddy soaks like that that you can barely walk up and you will have a car that you absolutely absolutely love there aren't that many cars around that you would say are truly iconic cars that have been in production in some yes but what Arthur said to your board some manufacturers know what to do with their icons some manufacturers aren't entirely sure how to replace them cheap understands the Wrangler it understands regular owners it knows exactly what it should do with it and what it should do is exactly what it has done with it this is a really cool car
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello you may remember about a year ago we didn't off-road mega tests surrounded the launch of the new Land Rover Discovery but we brought quite odd other off-roaders along too one of which was the then generation Jeep Wrangler now the Jeep Wrangler has been replaced by this new variant which I am sit in as we speak what's to know well quite a lot actually jeepers consider this the rebirth of its argument it gets a new model cycle once every ten years or so but what G doesn't like to do is mess around with the formula too much so I am sitting in a cockpit that feels quite GP there's more refinement which I'll come on to in a bit but the basics on the outside the design has been subtly updated and it still retains a separate body and chassis there's more other mininum in the body so the body is lighter you can get two-door or four-door this is a two-door because it's better off road you get it sports trimming and it's a Hara trim which has got bit more refinement for the suburban user or you get it in the fall fat off Road Rubicon trim which is what we've done so the Rubicon brings with it chunky BF goodrich all-terrain tires this is a car that still retains a low ratio transfer case but low ratio is lower on the Rubicon and it gets up rated axles with automatic locking diffs which I have also got control of here and I can disconnect the anti-roll bars for full axle articulation the articulation in this is really impressive Jeep talks about going to east of Moab Jeep festival spent time the Jeep owners it it gets to know how they use their Wranglers so it redesigns them carefully when it comes to the job so the old car was really impressive like 42 degree approach angle at the front this one is now able to 44 degree approach angle at the front the rear departure angle is really good high 30s breakover angle is nearly 30 degrees it can wade 760 mil of water and the minimum ground clearances and 70 miles an hour laughs this is a serious off-road piece of kit that is job one on doing a new Wrangler it has to go further be better than the last one what Jeep would like to do this time around is add a little bit more refinement a little bit more on-road comfort and certainly a nicer interior so let's start with the interior first because that's where I am this Rubicon is pretty well SPECT actually there are two dials but there's also an our multicolored dial multicolor instrument between them and I got an eight and a half inch touchscreen I think base model gets seven each one paint a half inch touchscreen which has got the swipe and grab and all the sort of functions that you get on a smartphone it also may to your smartphone quite well as well so runs carplay and android which is terrific because they are usually better than a vehicle's own systems but this has got some quite cool off-road functions of its own so you can see what angles you're at what you were doing with dips what you're doing with steering so on and so forth this rango is a bit bigger than the previous one this is a two-door there is certainly more room in the back than there used to be but it's still quite a compact car in terms of its length four point three meters long makes it about the same length as a Ford Focus but it's relatively wide for our UK viewers it's about 1.9 meters now in the UK that is that makes it a reasonably big car on country roads if you're watching in the United States or elsewhere maybe that doesn't matter because he believes quite compact for us quite big for us terms of its height when you climb up into it it doesn't feel quite as high as climbing into a defender but I think that's actually the driving position rather than ground clearance transitions a bit more comfortable than the old defender a bit more car-like and steering wheel adjusts and all that sort of marque it does feel relatively karush in here but what this car is really about is functionality which is why I am talking to you while going places that no normal off-roader should really go just been running down there in hill descent control which I can change the speed it's gonna do them just by slipping up and down on the gear lever the steering is relatively slow at 3.7 turns lock to lock but the thing to remember is it's got very very tight turning circle of just sort of ten point four meters so actually a it's not as slow as you think it is be it's a really maneuverable car this is the kind of thing that matters to Jeep owners as I understand it they love the fact that this car will get places that it shouldn't normally go and also it's really flexible this is the full soft top is also a three-piece hardtop there's coming later is an electric soft top four bolts you can drop the windscreen down these doors are lighter than they were there's now grab handle here so once you've taken the stalks bolts out of the front you can take the doors off this car is so flexible so modifiable so modified as one of the guys from Jeep said let's face it these cars spend about five minutes out the showroom stock and then people just mess around with them play with them it is a toy for grown-ups it's a fun car for grown-ups and I really like that I really love it does that affect what it's like as a road car yes it does I've driven this one on the road where the tires hum like a military convoy going along but I'm also driven the Sahara on the road which is meant to be a little bit more habitable but you're still looking at a car whose steering is a bit vague around straight ahead there's quite a lot of road noise there's quite a lot of Tyre noise if you're thinking about swapping out of a Volvo xc60 SUV and thinking you might find something similarly scandi cool and refined on-road look that's not what this car is about remember that remember the fact that it will climb up buddy soaks like that that you can barely walk up and you will have a car that you absolutely absolutely love there aren't that many cars around that you would say are truly iconic cars that have been in production in some yes but what Arthur said to your board some manufacturers know what to do with their icons some manufacturers aren't entirely sure how to replace them cheap understands the Wrangler it understands regular owners it knows exactly what it should do with it and what it should do with it is exactly what it has done with it this is a really really cool cup you\n"
