Traveling is Just Part of the Job
As I sit here to record this video, I have to say that traveling has become an integral part of my life. This year, it's been my most travel-intensive one yet, with 14 trips already on the books and more to come. I'm not complaining; in fact, I find it exhilarating. There's something about being in new places, experiencing different cultures, and meeting new people that just makes me feel alive.
Of course, this means that some of my work gets delayed while I'm away. The artists series, for example, are still in the works. I like to release them as a series, so I wait until they're all finished before sharing them with you guys. And speaking of waiting, I have been getting some great packages from viewers lately. Let's take a look at what's inside.
First up, we have this mysterious postcard from someone who goes by the name of INTJ photo. The only clue is that it's postmarked from Denver, Colorado, and there's no indication of who this person might be. I love a good mystery, so I'm intrigued. And then there's another package with an unmarked postcard that seems to have traveled all the way from Switzerland. Who could have sent this? Lee Johnson from Switzerland wrote a brief message thanking me for my support and sharing his latest finished project, which features some stunning photography.
Next up is a compact portfolio from Brent Kulluk, who works at the Meadows Museum in Dallas. He's a fan of my work, and I'm thrilled to know that it resonates with him. The highlight of this package is an issue of his new photo project, "Dispatch Volumes," which features long-form photo essays on topics like Mexico. It's fascinating to see how he approaches these projects, and I love the way he writes about them.
Then there's a little note from Tom Barr, who lives in Scotland. This is where things get really cool – Tom has sent me some amazing postcards over the years, but we've never met in person. He's an artist, and his work is consistently outstanding. His latest project, "Latitude," explores the idea of abstraction and how it can be used to connect the viewer to a landscape in a way that transcends traditional photography. I'm super excited to learn more about this project.
As for me, I'll be packing up my bags soon and heading out to Florida for a Nikon trip with the new Z6 camera. This is going to be a fantastic opportunity to explore some amazing landscapes and share it all with you guys. I'll be sure to post updates along the way, so stay tuned.
Finally, let's take a look at what else has been sent in the mail. We have a book from Brent Kulluk again, which he says is a personal favorite of mine. And then there's this really cool sheep-shaped item that Tom Barr included with his package – apparently, this means that it's going to be an awesome project! I love a good surprise, and I'm excited to see what other surprises come my way.
That's all for now – I think I'll wrap up the mail section here before moving on to some other topics. But if you guys have any questions about the Z6 trip or anything else, leave them in the comments below. Until next time, stay creative and keep exploring!
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enyeah map in the Sun what is up guys so today I'm pretty excited because I have something cool to announce to you guys been waiting a while to do this I'm really stoked actually been up since 4 o'clock this morning cuz I've had a lot of things to work on doing surprisingly well let's head out so this is not actually from Home Depot it's from so last week I was in New York City and I did a video when I was at photo plus and I introduced you guys to my friend Jaron ladies and gentlemen the one and only Jaron Schneider none of you know who I am that's Jaron we got a little surprise we're working on we should announce it yet we should now we got to hype it it'll be good there's a project that was Jaron and we do have a cool project coming up and I'm really excited to finally tell you about this so we are starting a podcast about photography that you can listen to on Spotify and iTunes and all that groovy stuff you're gonna be a household name and this is actually an entirely new show and it's a little bit confusing because the videos I make for YouTube those have always come out on iTunes that you can download like a low-resolution versions of them for those of you who travel and communicate is a podcast that is a video podcast this is different this is going to be an hour-long audio podcast then we're gonna do once a week and we're going to discuss things about photography some of it may interweave with the show but I think it's gonna be a lot of fun Sharon's a great guy it's the new Z 6 24 to 70 f4 35-millimeter 1/8 50 millimeter 1/8 and an adapter and a card reader so here's the deal with the podcast it's been about 10 years since I've set one of these up and as I recall it takes a little while to get the feed registered into iTunes and now there's Spotify and other things too so I'll tell you what when that link is available I will put it in a comment and I'll pin it to the top so if you go down to the comments section and you see a pinned comment it'll have link if you don't see the pinned comment well it's not up yet so stay tuned sorry about that it just takes time probably should have had all this squared away before I announced it but I'm really excited we recorded the first show this morning it's really good I can't wait for you guys to hear it so let's talk Nikon for just a second and why they sent over the c6 and a bunch of groovy lenses and stuff for me to check out well I'm going to be getting very comfortable with this camera over the coming weeks and I kind of have a trip planned next week that I will be joining them on so I'm super excited about that and I'm really excited about the z6 the z7 has been out for I guess a few weeks now and it is the high megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera this is the lower megapixel full-frame mirrorless this is a 24 megapixel 2 things in particular that I'm looking at on this camera are low-light performance and video capabilities because I think that is something that I expect to be pretty cool on here and unlike a higher megapixel camera those are things that improve when you're dealing with a little bit smaller resolution so I literally have just taken this out of the box and my first impressions are this camera is pretty gorgeous it's really comfortable it's a very solid feel I kind of like it so far I'm going to reserve any technical judgement until I've had a chance to actually use this and put it through some paces one thing that I'm a little bit frustrated about and this is kind of the curse of being able to check stuff out either early or those of you who have bought stuff close to a release date know what I'm talking about Lightroom capture one they won't read the RAW files and so you have to shoot raw and JPEG and save all your RAW files and then pull those in when the software has been updated to read those that's just kind of the way it works but other than that I really am super excited about the z6 so yes more traveling coming up this week this will be the 14th trip that I have been on this year which is probably the most travel intensive year I've ever had which is cool I'm not complaining some of that travel was for artists series and just give you guys a little bit of an update those are being worked on now I like to release those as a series so I wait until they are all finished and I know I recorded some of those several months ago but you're gonna have to be patient with me a little longer it will be before the end of the year I promise and since we're opening mail I want to open some viewer mail because I haven't done that in a long time it's starting to stack up again and there's some pretty cool stuff in here so let's get busy got some postcards here from the ever mysterious INTJ photo one day perhaps his identity will be revealed these are numbered I need to put him in order even more mysterious than INTJ photo is this individual these are postmarked from Denver Colorado who goes by GI thanks GI perhaps one day I will know who you are - another unmarked package here this is kind of cool the Swiss Alps 25:13 - 25 17 perhaps this is from the future this comes to us from focusing on the long-form photo essay this issue is my has my only work two essays made in Mexico but in the future I hope to include others who work in the same or similar format interestingly enough he also says I've really enjoyed the artist series that you have made pedro mayer is one of my favorites as is e2 vitae and having met Keith Carter several times I thought your portrayal of him was spot-on Brett thanks this is awesome and sounds like we got a lot of the same favorite influences and this is very cool I'll put a link down in the description just gotta say when you see this sheep this means two things one it means it's from my friend Tom bar and two it means it's going to be awesome alright I told you this would be cool so this is from my buddy Tom Barr who has sent stuff in before we have never actually met in person hopefully that'll change one day he lives in Scotland sent me a book a long time ago called Shetland owl and he sent me some other things and his work is consistently outstanding and he writes in here dear Ted I hope all is well with you in Fort Worth this project is entitled latitude it's an exploration of abstraction and how this might be used to connect the viewer to a landscape in a view non prospective centric kind of way could photography distill a sense of place into pure form this is really awesome Tom thank you for sharing if you guys haven't checked out Tom I'll link to him below I think he's got a website I'm sure it's on here somewhere or I'll find it yep he does he's really outstanding and thank you Tom for this book this is fabulous okay I am going to cut mailtime short a little bit right here I promise I will do a full dedicated episode when I get back I just realized it's like 5 o'clock I have not packed yet this is a this week as of tomorrow morning early I'm going to be heading out to Florida for this nikon trip for the z6 I'm super excited can't wait to share stuff with you if you got any questions on that leave them in the comments I'll see what I can get to I'm going to be shooting on that camera for a few days in the great state of Florida so I'm looking forward to that I'll see you guys in the next video
