3D Touch is Officially DEAD...
The Confirmed Reality: Apple Ditches 3D Touch for Haptic Touch on New iPhones
As we dive into the world of iOS 13 and beyond, it's become increasingly clear that Apple has made a significant change to their iPhone lineup. Gone is 3D touch, a feature that was once touted as a revolutionary innovation in mobile technology. In its place, haptic touch takes center stage. But what does this mean for users, particularly those who grew up with 3D touch on older devices?
The Transition from 3D Touch to Haptic Touch
So, how did we get here? Well, it's been confirmed that the new iPhones will not have pressure-sensitive screens, a feature that made 3D touch possible. Instead, Apple has opted for haptic touch, which relies on vibrations and other tactile feedback mechanisms to provide a similar user experience. While this may seem like a downgrade to some, haptic touch brings its own set of benefits and features that are sure to please.
The Reality of Using Haptic Touch
One of the most noticeable differences between 3D touch and haptic touch is the lack of pressure sensitivity. On older devices with 3D touch, users could press and hold on any icon or button to access additional functions or peek at more information. However, on newer iPhones, this functionality is limited to specific areas of the screen. For example, in third-party applications like Instagram, haptic touch allows users to press and hold on a user's name to peek at their profile. However, unlike 3D touch, there's no way to actually access that profile without having to physically go back to the app.
The Impact on Third-Party Apps
Another significant consequence of Apple's decision is its impact on third-party apps. Many popular apps, including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, have already implemented haptic touch functionality. However, these features are often limited to specific areas of the screen or require users to press and hold in certain patterns. This means that some apps may not be as functional or user-friendly as they were with 3D touch.
The Preference for 3D Touch
So, do you prefer 3D touch or haptic touch? While it's ultimately a personal preference, many users have expressed their disappointment at the loss of this feature. For those who grew up with 3D touch on older devices, it's hard to imagine life without it. The added functionality and convenience it provided made it an essential part of their daily iPhone experience.
The Direction Apple is Heading In
While some may lament the loss of 3D touch, others see haptic touch as a step forward in mobile technology. With improvements to come, it's likely that haptic touch will become even more intuitive and user-friendly over time. However, for now, it's clear that Apple has made a deliberate choice to prioritize this feature over its predecessor.
The Future of iPhones
So, what does the future hold for iPhone users? As we look ahead to newer models, it's likely that Apple will continue to refine haptic touch and incorporate new features and functionality. However, for now, the reality is that older devices like the iPhone SE will be the last bastions of 3D touch.
The Verdict
In conclusion, while 3D touch may be gone from the mainstream iPhone lineup, its legacy lives on in the form of haptic touch. While it's not quite the same as having a pressure-sensitive screen, haptic touch still has its advantages and benefits. As we move forward, it'll be interesting to see how Apple continues to evolve this feature and whether newer models will eventually make 3D touch a distant memory.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys my name's Brandon and I feel like we've had this conversation before but now it's official 3d touch is dead so let's rewind back to September 7th 2018 I made a video titled iPhone may lose this important feature in 2019 and the feature I was talking about in that video was 3d touch fast forward a few months later and we start to see more rumors of 3d touch not being included in the 2019 iPhones but most people still were not convinced but then things changed when we got the first beta of iOS 13 we started noticing a shift we noticed that older phones like the iPhone se here got the 3d touch functionality the 3d touch light capabilities that the iPhone 6s and newer were able to have beforehand and that feature of course is called haptic touch which did originally debut on the iPhone 10 our last year and if we take a look at the iPhone 10 all right here of course haptic touch is just the long pressed gesture that you can use to hold on to icons and menu items for additional functionality you get a little hectic feedback in a little click noise once the gesture is recognized just like you did with 3d touch the only difference of course is that you don't have to press harder on the screen to invoke the actions so anyways as we got further into the beta stages of iOS 13 things got even more concerning for 3d touch and we could start to see where Apple was headed so users with pressure-sensitive screens like me especially on my iPhone 8 plus my iPhone 6s my iPhone 10s Mac's we were all noticing that 3d touch just did not feel the same as it did in iOS 12 and any previous version it just felt like haptic touch even though we're using a device with a pressure-sensitive screen that's capable of utilizing 3d touch just wasn't using it it was just using haptic touch instead of 3d touch it's like Apple was just favoring it and not letting us use what we paid for and if we take my iPhone 10s max here which by the way is on iOS 13 and we go into our accessibility settings touch you can see 3d and haptic touch here that was not there before in iOS 12 it just said 3d touch because of course we were on a device that uses 3d touch but now it shows that it has 3d touch and haptic touch which means that it's going to alternate between the two throughout the OS which is very confusing so how do we know that 3d touch is going to be discontinued well because the brand new iPhone 11 pro and eleven Promax come with haptic touch and this was shown right here on the Apple website and of course this does mean that they do not have a pressure-sensitive screen and will never be able to utilize 3d touch and this also indicates that feature iPhones will also stick with haptic touch unless of course some new technology comes along but for now we unfortunately have to say goodbye to 3d touch and just accept that haptic touch is the replacement in the future and it sucks because 3d touch just felt more natural so I still have my iPhone 8 plus here on iOS 12 so I'm still able to use 3d touch and you can see just how fast the menu comes up and if we compare that to my iPhone 10s max here which also has a pressure-sensitive screen but it's on iOS 13 so it utilizes haptic touch / 3d touch let me show you how fast this is so you guys just saw that a little bit I'm gonna do it again you can see there that is 3d touch but haptic touch you can see is definitely slower you have to hold the icon a little bit longer and the menu just takes a little bit longer to pop up and it's pretty annoying when you've been used to using 3d touch for so long especially myself I always use these shortcuts on the homescreen so it's a noticeable difference when you go ahead and do that and you compare it to haptic touch we can also compare 3d touch and haptic touch when it comes to the keyboard and utilizing the trackpad feature so before with 3d touch on iOS 12 you were just able to press in hard on the keyboard and use the trackpad just like so but now with haptic touch in iOS 13 you have to press on the keyboard hold it for a little bit and then you're able to actually use the trackpad so you can see how much slower it is to actually just invoke the action than it was on 3d touch devices on iOS 12 and for devices that only have haptic touch and they don't have a pressure-sensitive screen like the iPhone 10 are here like the iPhone 11 and all the future iPhones are gonna have you're not actually able to press and hold on anywhere in the keyboard like you could with 3d touch you actually have to hold on the spacebar and then you're able to go throughout and use the keyboard as a trackpad which takes much longer to invoke and it's just not near as convenient as it was with 3d touch now also with haptic touch I'm not able to use live wallpapers so you can't see the moving wallpapers like can be tapped on this and press down you can see there you can move the wallpaper you can't do that on the iPhone 10 R or haptic touch devices now those of you with pressure-sensitive screens will still be able to use 3d touch in third-party applications and other areas like the keyboard but pretty much everywhere else throughout iOS 13 and beyond it's going to be all haptic touch now like I mentioned you can still use 3d touch in third-party applications for example I have Instagram here you can see I get pressure press just 3d press there on a user name and I could go in kind of peek and pop into the actual account but here on the iPhone 10 are and using haptic touch you can see I can press and hold but I can't peek and pop no matter how long I hold you can see there you can't pick and pop and go into the profile because you don't have 3d touch you have haptic touch and it's like that in multiple third-party application so hopefully those third-party apps never drop support for 3d touch in favor of haptic touch I wouldn't think that they would but you just never know and just so we're clear I do like haptic touch for what it is and just what it brings to the table the functionality the additional options and things like that but if I had to choose you know one I would definitely choose 3d touch over haptic touch I just wish the Apple gave us the option to just use one or the other on older devices you know I say older but I really mean the iPhone 10s max and older because from now on the iPhone 11 and possibly every iPhone into the future is not going to have 3d touch it's just going to utilize software and use haptic touch to just long press on icons to get that functionality now of course if you still have an iPhone se you are loving haptic touch you never you know got to realize how good 3d touch was but a haptic touch kind of brings that flavor to your iPhone it makes it feel like a whole new phone like a modern phone even though it's not so yeah I mean it's great for older devices like the iPhone se but the reality is most people don't have an iPhone se as their only phone anymore I mean especially after this year I can't imagine too many people are gonna have an iPhone se but yeah the whole reason I made this video is just to tell you guys that it is confirmed the new iPhones are not going to have pressure-sensitive screens they're not going to have 3d touch they are going to have haptic touch as we kind of guessed all the long even though we didn't want to admit it I didn't want to face the truth I didn't want to say goodbye to 3d touch but it's looking like that is the case for the foreseeable future and the other reason I made this video is to pass the question along to you guys do you prefer 3d touch or do you prefer haptic touch and also are you happy with the direction Apple is going in by using haptic touch / 3d touch I guess they either not enough people were using 3d touch or the technology to make the screen pressure-sensitive just cost too much which does suck if you were a fan of 3d touch but that's our new reality and we're gonna have to deal with it I'm sure haptic touch will improve over time as well it'll probably get better and I'll probably get faster so that is the bright side of it but 3d touch is definitely going to be missed so if you guys enjoyed this video I would appreciate it if you gave it a thumbs up also make sure you guys subscribe so you can see all my iPhone 11 coverage and other videos just like this so thanks you for watching guys and I'll see you soonwhat's up guys my name's Brandon and I feel like we've had this conversation before but now it's official 3d touch is dead so
