The Experience of Driving a Multipla SV
As I sat down to drive the Multipla SV, I was immediately struck by its clever design. The car's unique layout, with its "middle" seating area, allowed for an ingenious solution to storage and access. As I reached forward to touch various features, I couldn't help but appreciate the attention to detail that had gone into creating this special edition vehicle.
One of the first things I noticed was the exhaust system, which produced a deep, rumbling sound that seemed almost supercar-like. The straight exhaust note was particularly impressive, and I found myself grinning from ear to ear as I realized just how much character this car possessed. As I settled into the seat, I also appreciated the abundance of glass and headroom – it's clear that the designers had put a strong emphasis on creating a comfortable and spacious driving environment.
But what really caught my attention was the SV model itself. This is a car that truly understands its family heritage, with clever design solutions that speak to its Italian roots. The double wishbone front suspension, for example, provides an uncanny level of directness – it's no wonder Porsche has since incorporated this technology into their own GT3 models.
As I began to warm up the engine, I was eager to put the Multipla SV through its paces. With 0-100 km/h in just 12.6 seconds, this is a car that promises plenty of excitement – and it certainly delivers. The acceleration is breathtakingly smooth, with none of the usual turbo lag or hesitation that's often associated with high-performance engines.
But what really sets the Multipla SV apart is its rear wing – a clever system that provides an impressive amount of downforce without sacrificing too much agility. As I pushed the car through the corners, I could feel the canards at the front working their magic, pushing me gently towards the apex and allowing me to carve up the road with ease.
Of course, one of the most striking features of this car is its limited slip differentials – a clever system that helps to stabilize the rear end and prevent wheelspin. It's a subtle but crucial element in unlocking the full potential of this engine, and I was amazed at how well it worked on track.
As we prepared for a top-speed run down the Autobahn, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and trepidation. What would this car deliver? The answer, of course, is simply stunning – 170 km/h may not be the most impressive top speed in its class, but there's something uniquely special about the way it feels to drive.
With its clever aerodynamics and powerful engine, the Multipla SV is a true masterclass in driving dynamics. Even when pushed hard, it remains remarkably composed and well-balanced – a testament to the ingenuity of its designers. As I pulled over at the end of our run, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to drive this incredible car.
A few final thoughts from my time with the Multipla SV: the shift light and sequencing system are truly clever solutions, allowing drivers to optimize their shifts without sacrificing too much comfort or convenience. And while it may not be the most dramatic or attention-grabbing design element, the Kevlar-reinforced center console is a beautifully understated touch that speaks to the car's commitment to practicality.
All in all, driving the Multipla SV was an unforgettable experience – one that left me in awe of this incredible Italian grand tourer. Whether you're a seasoned enthusiast or just starting out on your automotive journey, this car is sure to leave a lasting impression – and maybe even inspire you to explore the world of high-performance driving.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up ladies and gentlemen and welcome to this POV review by aotop now my name is Max and today we are crossing another one of the bucket list 2021 was a great year for our Channel because uh we've been able to do a couple of very cool things number one we drove a Porsche Carrera GT number two we bought our first Ferrari and now we are here in 2022 Crossing another one off The Bucket List we are driving a Fiat multipl and well it is one of the most legendary cars ever made it has made dozens if not hundreds of top 10 lists across the world for its remarkable design and well today I'm going to review it I'm going to show you around it we're going to show you a couple of very cool things but mainly because this is a super special version because back in the day Ferrari and Lamborghini were the bestest of friends and during the development of this Fiat multipla Fiat and Lamborghini worked together on this super secret project the engineers worked on this car at night no one was supposed to know that they were building this car and it is sort of a competitor to the Renault ESP plus F1 car you might remember that Renault SAS they put an F1 A Renault F1 engine in that car this was supposed to be like that but for the street for the road and well unfortunately development halted at some point and it wasn't taken into production probably because of the financial crisis in 2008 but man man man what a special car so we're going to talk a bit about the multipl in general and of course the family features the super smart things that they did to this car and of course we're going to focus on the sport and race stuff as well because this car was built by the department that ALS o built the Lamborghini gardo super Lera and the Aventador SV so this is the Lamborghini multipla SV super velocci now let's start with the basics okay uh as I said the car made a lot of top 10 lists for its appearance and that is of course because one it looks like a dolphin uh which is one of the most elegant beautiful and intelligent creatures on this planet so I definitely uh agree with that I think that is a fitting uh animal and then number two is the duck because you have the two eyes over here one two um and then you have the the beak right the mouth of the duck and again the duck is such a smart creature it can float on water so uh yeah again I completely agree with it especially because imagine if there you know climate change Fiat knew this back then climate change what water levels are rising right so in like a few years water is up to here okay imagine up to there like a meter guess which car still has lights above the water it's a multipl right it's crazy this car was so far ahead of its time now for this SV version uh they installed these canards on the front bumper to increase down force and stability at high speeds um it is a wide body car I can show you that especially in the rear as you can see this body is super wide the wheel is in there uh this is actually the multiply is actually on the Fiat Bravo platform it is also painted in the Oro Helios color which is a Lamborghini gold color very very cool Wheels we've got these magnesium wheels on this SV version very nice Wheels uh these are black as well and you can see that it is a super light paint you can still see the silver there uh that is to save weight big mirrors here and then of course the quintessential side profile of the multipla low doors High Windows a lot of head room for the passengers and even has these bump stops on the doors this plastic thing is made that if you open the door you can't hit hit another car or a wool with your paint so you protect the car with that so in the rear one of the things that Fiat wanted to do with this multi is build the ultimate family car so they wanted to build a small Nimble City car with room for a big family and that's also why it's so wide and it's all and it's only 4 M long so it's about the same length as a mini uh coper four-door but it has six seats and a decent boot as well uh which is super smart so the floor is completely flat you can move around the seats can move around as you can see they they are completely adjustable and then you can also remove them you can tilt them forward where's the thing there it is so you can tilt them forward and you have this this table here other seats have like this cup holder thing here um it is a super smart design and if you sit in here which you can easily do I am quite tall but still I fit in here uh the the roof is high the car is wide and it is full of super smart features that you know back in the day when this car came out 1998 I believe it was uh they were revolutionary really uh this car is the same size roughly as a Renault sique uh but you could still fit six people six adults with uh some luggage as well and a lot of features were copied by other car manufacturers as well now of course because this is the SV that means that we have a carbon fiber rear wing um which does mean that you don't have the option to open the boot anymore of course because the spoiler will hit this uh this is also carbon fiber of course uh but you don't need to open it the boot because it's a you know it's a track car basically so you're not going to use that quad exhaust as well sounds incredible this exhaust is made from inconel you might remember that the roof cars also had an exhaust from Inc canel which is super light uh it's even better than titanium basically so yeah and then uh nice bubble lights at the rear all right let's take a look at the engine there we go so we've got a 1.6 L petrol 4cylinder engine naturally aspirated and of course Lamborghinis are naturally aspirated v10s v12s 1.6s uh naturally aspirated pure bread power it sounds incredible it's got 103 horsepower in this car 103 uh it is mega mega uh 12 .6 or 12.9 seconds something like that to 100 so yeah you have to hold on when you try to ride this bull all right so let's take a look inside now before we go inside I just want to thank the owners at Dutch multipl on Instagram you can go follow them there follow their adventures with this car um I mean yeah it is a magnificent piece of engineering and yeah they are going to do some more cool stuff with this car as well all righty the interior we've got these doors as you can see with this handheld radio it looks like uh super smart very flat so they don't come into the car too much and then the center stack is very clever as well because you have this third seat of course in the middle uh the thing that the multipl is known for most as I said you can lower it and you have a cup holder here you could actually also from the factory get this with an 18 lit refrigerator that would sit in here but you cannot remove that anymore well I think that most I think actually that the front seats are they should be removable as well but not as easily as the rear ones um the center stack as I said is completely free here because you need your feet to go there if you sit in the middle so everything is up here here and up here now this is actually super smart because they centered everything here they could add some storage right there and right there down there as well so everything has been developed with the family in mind it even has a rolt here as you can see eyes mouth nose ears very cool all right now because this is the SV let me open the door as I said with that Inc canel exhaust it has a very very deep sound what now it even smells like a superar in here because you have that straight exhaust of course and well that engine is just rumbling away at the front of course because you have this seat right here the handbrake is on the left so we have to use that one over there and sitting in here it's very spacious lot of glass a lot of headro as well all right oh that sounds amazing all right so we're going to try and start slow because I have to get used to to this car as always with these more you know insane performance cars you have to get used to the way they feel so we've got double wishbones at the front that's why it feels so incredibly direct uh Porsche has that now on the GT3 as well for the first time but multipl SV had that back in the day I mean it was ahead of its time in so many ways okay as I said 12.6 seconds only uh from 0 to 100 so let's start the speedo Cam and we've got a dragy over here so let's see if we can get close to that oh a lot of wheel spin a lot of power being released on all all those four wheels of course oh here we go look at that Speedo that's incredible oh I'm not that was amazing 0 to 12 25.9 seconds oh my Lord holy moly here we go again through the quarters it just sticks to the road and of course we've got that wing on the rear for that extra down force and you can really feel those canards at the front they just push you towards the Apex as as long as you have some speed just like with a Formula 1 car you have to go fast to feel the down Force it's so incredible now as you might have noticed we don't have a ref counter and that's because this Center stack had to be as compact as possible you can see this is all made from Kevlar there was no space anymore so they started developing this led shift light sequencing light um you can see that over there this handle that used to be an LED shift light but before they could finish development of this car uh yeah it just didn't make it sounds like a Formula 1 car man oh on the edge of grip going through those corners but it's so easily manageable because you have those three limited slip differentials one at the front one at the rear and one in the center okay and then we are going to take it to the Alan for a top speed run wow what a day guys here we go on to the ultim Man full throttle oh wow oh that's one of those V12 fans I mean no one can keep up with those here we go fourth gear quick shift let's go and of course now that rear wing really starts working you can see that Martin has been pushed all the way back because of the acceleration wow here we go we're going to overtake the van even I really wasn't expecting that here we go fifth gear this is amazing I mean we never have this amount of space here as well this is so lucky top speed of the multipla is 170 km an hour now you would say that because this SV is so powerful uh the top speed would be higher but because of all the arrow uh actually this is the predecessor to that uh aerodynamic Lamborghini attiva system you you remember the allaha system this is actually the predecessor and it's so effective that it just limits the amount of downforce you uh the amount of top speed you can get but luckily if you move around really really quickly in the rear you can actually feel the car going quicker so 140 Full Throttle car is moving around a lot at this speed I mean we are in Uncharted Territory right now all right so let's take a couple of shifts down with this short shifter and do a nice little pull oh that sound holy moly what a car man it has been an honor to drive this car Dutch multiply guys thank you so much for taking it to us really enjoy driving this Beast of a car to you guys thanks for watching I hope you enjoyed it you get subscribed by clicking the big button in the middle you can also check out this video on the right or go check
